Defrag question

I have a calc making: FIX("Actual", "Final", &CurrProj, "Working", &CurrYr:&NextYr2) CLEARBLOCK EMPTY; ENDFIX my question is, if I play a "restructuring of the force" via MaxL at the end.  I still have to perform the above calc?  Would be the restructuring of the force to take care of the EMPTY blocks anyway?  OR I am misunderstanding and they are two different things. Thank you

I think you're right - the restructuring of the force on the order of appname.dbname will be remove and rearrange the blocks all empty.  Remove empty blocks in a calc script is not as complete of a restructuring of the force.

Just a note - you can (I think with 11.1.2.2 but maybe same 11.1.2.1) go with the parallel restructuring.  Oooh, fast.

Kind regards

    Hello

You cannot uninstall, and then reinstall the Vista defrag program.

It is part of the Vista operating system.

The Vista defrag works quietly in the background without intervention on your part.

It is not designed to use a lot of your computer's resources and to interfere in your daily work

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/942092

In Windows Vista, there are a lot of improvements in the defrag engine and handling of fragmentation. By default, Windows Vista uses Task Scheduler to automatically keep the defragmented hard drive. This Automatic defragmentation does not affect the performance of the Windows Vista operating system...

  • TDMS Defrag progress switch Question

Starting in 2015 from LabVIEW (I think), there is a bundled with LabVIEW example that shows how to defragment a PDM file and get the status of the defragmentation process.  This example uses two screws again, one to enable and disable the indicator telling the defragmentation to provide status and other VI to actually get the progress.

My current design is through an actor architecture where each test site will be a reentrant VI manages journaling of the criterion on this location.  And I wanted to get this actor of logging check to see if the file is fragmented and defragment it periodically.  I join defragment at the end of the trial.  I thought I had a this defragmentation progress would be a great feature, but with these two screws being undocumented, I don't know how they will work when there are parallel processes potentially also defrags on other files.

My question is in what regards progress switch turning off.  For progress should be submitted, you must turn on the switch, then you can read the current status and in the example, it shows the turning off of the switch.  But if I'm defragmentation with a progress bar in a parallel process, turn off the switch it disables all files and this isn't what I want.  What impact could I see so if I leave the switch of defragmentation on throughout the life of the application?  A small example of what I'm hearing is attached.  It generates two files, one who takes one longer defrag than the other, but they both start at the same time.  If I turn off the switch when the first stops, then progress will be not indicated for the second file.  I'm okay leaving activated forever?  Or do I need to track which files are to be defragmented and turn off the switch when they are all done?

Either way, the lack of documentation on these features exist in 2016.

As you have found that if you turn off the switch of progress, may not be all the defrags for different files. Leaving eanbled forever is good, but can do a little slower for the case of not having to view the progress of the defragmentation.

  • A few questions about the defrag and hard space as I get a notification saying my hard disk space became full of drive

I have problems with my hard drive. I got a notification saying that my hard disk space became full. So I cleaned a lot of programs and files of the irrational. I've freed almost half of it. Then I had another notification a few days later and realized that I had less than 1 GB of free space on my hard drive 600 g. I cleaned more and went to defragment my disk. It is set on a calendar, but I don't think that he has never been defragmented. He ran for about 2.5 days until the cord is unplugged and the battery is dead at 91% consolidated. Do I have to start again and wait again 2.5 days before I little hard drive space open? Or progress in the early days of 2.5 will remain défragmentée? In addition, defrag and do a disk cleanup will stop my hard drive to fill almost instantly after deleting and uninstalling programs? I'm running out of things to remove and I am a full-time student full and really need a computer in operation, please help!

Defragmentation is complete, will continue from the left point last time. Therefore, if you raise, he will continue that 91 percent (of course, it will start from 0%, but the scan will go up that 91% and continue with the rest of the space on the hard disk, that 91% of surface of the hard drive has been defragmented already).

Yes, you can delete all the files inside the Temp folder. TEMP folder is a temporary storage place used by some programs to temporarily store the files/folders. Some programs remove the files/folders after working, but some retain them, causing space problems.

You can use disk cleanup, on occasion, to delete unnecessary files from the hard drive.

  • Computer laptop 15-f162dx: Conversion of MBR & Defragging: strange question!

First of all, I'm great running old operating systems I bought 1 million old installation Windows CD off Amazon.com, lol. Today, my mission: install Windows 95. So, first of all, I had to install MS-DOS. But, I came across an error during my quest! I needed my hard drive MBR rather than GPT. After hours of research, I converted successfully GPT on the MBR. At the start, I had a boot error. About to insert the installation media, I tried "F9" and choose the portable hard drive, rather than boot manager. This worked, again, never I start time, I need to press F9 and select portable hard drive into my OS. I do not see an option in the BIOS to disable the UEFI boot and just boot the hard disk in the first place... can anyone help?

Second, it's probably the power of suggestion, I have seen on some sites that the computer may run more slowly, and it is, but just a little. I also know that the partitions are unallocated space * between * them. Defragmentation will arrange this... and it would be safe. On an old TOSHIBA, defragmentation ruined the drive, making it fail. Also, is it safe to delete the "system EFI Partiton? Thanks for the help!

Just a reminder, before posting! I'm not a baby and I know what I'm doing with computers, I didn't convert it just as an experiment. So, in conclusion, please don't answer "it is dangerous to edit partitions". I understand the risks, and if I have to reset my PC due to an error, I did several backups, so this isn't a problem. Honest answers please, once more, I don't know what I'm doing, I did this for years and I'm far from "noob" level!

    Thanks in advance!

Happy day of remembrance, American citizens

    -green0ovrs

    Hi @green0ovrs,

    Thank you for your response.

EFI partition is not to be confused with the recovery partition.  The tool HP EFI or is a diagnostic partition and does not Windows files contain.

HP EFI applications and provided pre-launch many pre-launch to the system BIOS functions residing in the flash ROM. These pre-launch of HP applications are placed on a specific partition of HP.

The recovery partition that has / have the HP Recovery Manager would have Windows and all HP software.

If when you reformatted the drive you don't erase or overwrite, then you would be able to do a cover for take it back as long as the plant.  If you did remove then would need a recovery kit to consider return to factory.

HP doesn't support multiple boot options, so I'm not able to advise on the order of the partitions or the way of the of for this.

    Hope that helps!

  • Satellite Pro A10 - question memory & overall sluggishness

Two questions really, even if they may be related.

    1. I have an A10 (XP / IT with a Celeron 2.2GHz processor & 256 MB installed RAM) that runs now very slowly - extremely laborious. Do all the usual things (defragmented, spyware scanning, virus scanned, registry cleaned with a utility, etc.). Is that need more RAM? Or is there another solution to try first and if additional would be a good idea...

    2. .. do I need to install matched pairs of modules SODIMM or can I take one of the 128 MB chips and put in a 512 MB, or just have a 512?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I don't know what makes your computer to run very slowly. If it is software related, my only other idea is to reinstall the whole system.

About RAM: Upgrade memory will definitely increase the speed of your machine, and I think that, as you have only 256 MB, it would be a good idea.
When upgrading you must use memory good type. I think you need PC2100 DDR - RAM. You can combine the modules you want up to a maximum of 1024 MB.

    Good bye

  • Defraging disk does not work

whenever I have try to defragment my laptop restarts, I don't need to defrag because my system is slow

    Hello

It is very interesting question, but in my view the correct answer to your question, you should look on the Microsoft page because it is a typical problem of operating system. If I found a few explanations, I'll let you know.

Please check if the laptop restarts always in the same position (22%). In this case, it is possible that a sector on the HARD disk may be damaged or corrupted.

  • How to do a defrag (I think that's what you call)?

How to do a defrag (I think that's what it's called)

    on an IMac computer

There usually no need to do a defrag, as long as you keep a decent amount of free space on the disk (the boot volume).  The system works defragmentation for smaller size in the background files and large files fragmented usually has no performance impact.  The most important is the free spacefragmentation; performance can suffer if any of your remaining free space is in small fragments scattered on your storage media.  This happens more severely if the amount of free space on your startup disk starts to become really low, and you continue to use your system in this way.

To do a defrag, you need a third-party utility such as Tech Tool Pro.  I don't know what version of the operating system of the Mac you're using. be sure to check the system requirements.  It's a very good idea to create a backup complete, like a clone bootable on an external drive, before using one of these utilities to Defrag.  If something happens, like a your Mac turns off my mistake during defragmentation, the disc may be damaged.  And you also need to be started from another disk to defragment your drive boot, so using the bootable backup to run defragmentation is a way.

It can be useful if you provided more information, such as your iMac model and the version of the OS.  And also WHY you ask this question.

  • questions about the new SSD T530 upgrade

I just bought a T530 that comes with a 500 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive. I bought a 256 GB Samsung SSD 830 and was trying to install this. The questions I have are:

    1. is it recommended I the SSD drive in the ultrabay housing and keep the HARD disk where it is? Or place the HARD drive in the ultrabay slot and have the SSD to the standard housing?

    2. is there a certain adapter that should be used on the installation of SSD or HARD drive in the ultrabay slot?

3 are there settings that need to be changed when using an SSD?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. no difference whatever he is, although if you count hotswap in an optical device, it would be easier to have your primary OS drive.

    2. any generic SATA-UltraBay adapter should work. Make sure you have the size and the generation correct however.

    3. There are a few adjustments on swap files, defragment, etc. You should be able to find this information on the internet.

  • I can not defrag.my PC, it is constantly in a X box [Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled

complete the question was in my title.thank you

When you try to defragment a volume and Disk Defragmenter reports:

Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (c :))
    Please run Chkdsk /f.

This means that the volume that you want to defragment was marked 'dirty' XP.  This is not necessarily all of the data has been lost on the volume, it simply means that XP thinks that the volume should be checked to find errors because of something that happened before.

You won't be able to defragment the volume until the dirty bit has been removed.

This does not mean that a disk check is scheduled to run, and you can't cancel what needs to happen in this case because this isn't the problem.

Also the dirty bit is not set on a volume, you can still run a disk defrag with a record of date of arrival in the meantime (try).

Entry of commands to reset or erase a disc awaiting verification or suggestions for changes to the registry to make changes is a waste of time - that is not the problem.

A volume can be marked as dirty, if the system underwent a power interruption (power failure, pulling plug, removing the battery, button / stop), abandoned restart or an abnormal termination.  One of these events?

When XP starts, it automatically checks the bit of impurity on each volume.  You can also tell XP to ignore the bit of impurity on any volume, but this probably isn't a good idea in case there is a real problem that needs to be fixed.  If you have a hard drive where the dirty bit will not disappear, you can tell XP not to check.

If the starting XP detects that the volume is dirty, it will be automatically run the check disk with error correction (chkdsk/r) and try to fix the problems detected.

If the chkdsk command succeeds, it clears the dirty bit, and then you can defragment the volume.

You can check the status of your bit of impurity from a command prompt window.

To do this, click Start, run and enter in the box:

    cmd

Click OK to open a command prompt window.

For example, to query the bit of impurity on drive C, type:

    fsutil dirty query C:

    The sample output:
    Volume c is dirty
    Volume C: is dirty

Is the volume of your sale or it is not dirty?

You cannot use fsutil or chkntfs from a command prompt to delete the bit of impurity on a volume.

The only thing that can clear the bit of impurity on a volume is chkdsk /r (or chkdsk/p).  You could tell XP not to check the bit of impurity on a volume where the dirty bit does not erase, but this probably isn't a good idea since there is some sort of problem on the volume.

You will be not also solve this problem by editing your registry database (pay attention technical support engineers and moderators of Forum)-is not the problem.

Once a volume is marked as dirty, the only way to clear the dirty bit is to run "chkdsk/r" or "chkdsk/p" when the volume is not in use.  The only way a volume can not be used while XP is just starting to load or from the XP Recovery Console.

If XP will not run chkdsk correctly when your system restarts or the dirty bit will not erase as it should, you need to look in the Event Viewer log chkdsk and see what is happening and fix it.

If XP will not always clear the dirty bit, you need to run chkdsk/r of the XP Recovery Console so you can look and see what works and run it again until it works.  If your hard drive fails, you may never be able to clear the dirty bit, in this case, you can also say XP never check the afflicted volume dirty bit (this will usually do the trick).

Saying XP not to check the bit of impurity on a volume would be risky behavior because there would always be some kind of problem with your hard drive.

"Whenever I have try to defrag my computer it stops at 3% with the message"suspended for cliché Volume "? tried Chkdsk but nothing... Help!

Shadow copy volume is a Service of XP that comes into play (maybe) when you use a backup and restore functionality - as the cripple, built in NTbackup in XP program.

Here's a good page WWW who you tell about it and watch your question (below):

    http://smallvoid.com/article/Winnt-services-VSS.html

A way to "fix" is to enter into Services and stop the VSS Service, run your defragmentation and then start the VSS Service again when defragmentation is finished.

    Here's how:

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    services.msc

Click OK to launch the Services Applet, find the Volume Shadow Copy Service, double click it and click the Stop button.

    Run your defragmentation.

Back in Services, and then restart the VSS Service by clicking the Start button.

It's too much work and the lazy cuss I am I prefer this:

If your VSS Service is set to automatic so it begins to start XP, stop and change the startup type to Manual , and then the Service will start when there need start and stop when it should stop when your backup program starts and stops.  As many Services of XP, there is no need for them to be marketing all the time and execution of all day with nothing to do.

If you do not use any kind of backup software that requires VSS, you can disable the Service
