    Hi Alexandre Reddy.

The files that were used in your previous version windows are stored in the theWindows.old folder. Remove the Windows.old folder will not cause any problem you have taken a backup of the previous files as well as all the important files.

  • Cannot delete the folder windows.old with explore or disk cleanup

    Hello

I'm trying to remove my windows.old folder in my system disk and I tried following http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-do-I-remove-the-Windows-old-folder but Disk Cleanup doesn't show "Previous Windows installations" as an option to remove.

Explorer doesn't let me delete the files either. It keeps prompting by saying that I must have administrative permissions, even if I am logged in as a user who is a member of the Admin group! I tried to take possession of the file with no luck either.

  • Can I format my C drive without deleting the folder "Windows"?

I tried to delete the files on my computer - sound which do not appear in "Programs and features", but I keep are denied access and everytime I have to go through the Security tab and change the permissions and sometimes THAT doesn't even help. I'm exhausted on space, and I'm also looking for a "clean start" If you catch my drift.

Could not delete everything on my C drive without deleting the Windows folder, including hidden user accounts and folders/directories?

    Hello

No, it is not possible to format your hard drive with a folder that is not included, a format is still a clean hard disk.

Also delete user hidden folders and more will make your corrupt Windows installation and it will no more work or it will be very unstable.

If you want to perform a clean boot, then the best idea is pure install Windows 7, you can do it from your Windows installation media and then formatting your hard drive, Windows will then reinstalled on it.

  • Deleting the folder Windows.old in Windows 7 to 8 afterupgrading

I've recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and then again to 8.1. A copy of my old windows has been kept on the C drive as old windows, then again in the form of old windows 001. When I tried to delete the first, I made a mistake and changed the permissions of the user: Pauls PC in the folder 'properties '. But then I made a mistake again when I got bored with waiting so that he finishes and you press "Cancel". Yet once, I stuffed up - when I was warned by the pop-up that I can cause some serious trouble if I do not change the permissions back immediately, I ignored it, and now I have 15 GB hard drive that I can't access. The other windows 001 old that I got rid of listening on online forums and creating an administrator account. Can you help me with advice, or I always this hard disk space?

The built-in system cleaning app allows to safely remove the files, rather than delete directly from the file Explorer.  Here's how:

    1. Press +R to display the run box, type cleanmgr and click OK
    2. Select all types of cleanups to perform, and then click OK to clean the drive.  If you care only cleaning of the update, go to step 4 instead.
    3. When you are finished, press on +R to display the run box, type cleanmgr and click OK once more.
    4. This time, choose "clean up system files" at the bottom of the box first and then recheck all types of cleaning.  He is one who will have the opportunity to "Cleaning Windows Update". The first pass (step 2 above) won't do.

  • Is it possible to recover files deleted from your Recycle Bin, after the failure of the computer after the backup hard drive contained in the folder windows.old, including system files?

Very well. My computer is messed up awhile back and my friend saved my whole hard drive, the files system and everything, then wiped and restored, then ALL put in a folder called "windows.old" that I can access my hard drive. So since he has saved the files system and everything, I'll be able to recover my old files I had deleted before it was erased, if (hopefully) they is not replaced? If so, what filepath can I go in?

    Hi thatonehxckid,

The content in the trash is not saved in the folder windows.old during a custom installation.

You can simply DELETE THE WINDOWS. O file if your computer is running norml:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933212
This will give you more space.

If your computer does not correctly him follow these steps:

The single was is to back up all you produce, programs, data, but does not back up the WINDOWS. O file. You can delete the folder before making the back-up. Back to the top of your files before you begin reinstalling Windows, even if you're reinstalling Windows on a hard disk partition. A clean installation replaces the current version of Windows and all personal files

On start-up MODE MINIMAL step #7 you want to make sure that DELETE you PARTITIONS
It will give you an option and a list for delete you old partitions

    Thank you

Old post I know but I had this problem on several of my removable HDs, and finally I managed to remove the 'System Volume Information' folder:

DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR C: DRIVE OR YOUR WINDOWS HARD DRIVE!

Right click on desktop, and then click [New-> shortcut]
    Write: cmd.exe

Click [next] and then click [finish]

Right click on cmd.exe icon, and then click 'run as administrator'
Now select the external hard drive (f: in my case)

    C:\>f:

Yes now the following (you can copy paste):
    F:\>attrib s h/s/d
    F:\>attrib - r/s/d
    F:\>Rd "System Volume Information" / s
Are System Volume Information, you sure (Y/N)? There

    And you're DONE ;-)

  • Uninstall Windows Live essentials 2011 manually (I have not deleted the folder so no wlarp.exe)

So, I was disappointed by the new version of Windows Live Messenger and I decided to uninstall Windows Live Essentials 2011, of course, be the fool that I am, I deleted the folder for it. Now it won't let me install the old versionor the new version, because he thinks that I have installed the new one. Now I know where the problem lies, there is supposedly a registry key or file (s) system in windows that the program is still installed, I was hoping to find out where these files / registry keys were, so I could remove them.

If I have windows 7 64 bit and I delete the folder program files (x 86) from my hard drive

    Two points:

    1. If you want to delete some installed programs, do not make
deletion of the folder they are in. That doesn't remove them only partially and
can cause problems. Remove programs by in control
    Configuration/program Panel and features.

    2. a drive of 74 GB is a tiny disk these days. There are a number of
things you can do to save space, but they are all basically
temporary and you will soon find yourself in the same situation.
The only real solution is to buy and install a larger capacity drive.
Fortunately, they are very cheap these days; You can buy a 500GB
    drive for about US $65.

Is there a way to access storage and deleting the folder from command line? I'll be very grateful to anyone who has a suggestion. I have Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE8, which are up to date.
