• Cannot delete files windows Messaging.

  I have a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. In the program files (x 86) files and the file of the folder for windows mail program. It seems that these records are just a waste of hard drive space after searching the net, Windows mail is not supposed to be bundled with windows 7. Windows mail is not in the start menu. It is not in the menu programs and features so I can't uninstall it. I can't launch the programs manually because they have an extension .mui on the edge of the name of the file, so it's a total waste of hard drive space. Problem is that I can't do anything with the files.   For anyone still interested to remove these files, there are several steps missing.

  On my installation, I need both to take ownership and change permissions for each file and folder before I could remove them.

  1. in Windows Explorer, select Tools-> Folder Options-> view tab-> uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)".
  2. right click on each file or folder and select Properties-> Security tab
  3. click on advanced-> owner tab
  4. click on edit-> UAC prompt approval
  5. Select your user profile and click OK to take ownership
  6. This will return you to the Security tab-> select Edit to modify permissions
  7. Select your user name and fill in the box to allow full control
  8 OK-> OK

  Now that you have taken possession and you have full control, you will be allowed to delete files.

  I'm surprised that it take so much effort to give me permission to delete a single record, but at least it would be embarrassing for a hacker, too.

• VM not releasing a space between Windows 7 deleted files (windows.old)

  I have an upgrade to windows 7, I bought, and I also have the disk installation, but windows 7 makes me upgrading to vista 64-bit.  I basically install vista 64-bit and in the end upward with a 8 GB or VM.  Then I do the upgrade to windows 7 and my windows.old folder, I'm about 20 GB.  I need to get this to 10 GB or less.  I can delete the folder windows.old together with or without using the recycle bin feature.  I may stop or suspend several times.  Windows 7 sees that he has a 40 GB partition and uses about 10 GB of it.  The problem is that my virtual machine is always 20 GB on my mac.  No matter what I seem to do, I can't delete those data.  I'd like to just cleanly install windows 7 but it wont let me since I was an upgrade, it makes me actually upgraded to vista.  He can not update me for XP or even use this installer since XP is 32-bit.  I don't have all the data on the virtual computer, I want to just end up with a cost of windows 7 64 - bit VM without data on it, but that takes only 8-10 GB on the mac (or less).

  I also tried cleaning the virtual machine and it helps not at all. VMware fusion 3.0 does not get the memo from windows, these files have been deleted actually.  Does anyone else have this problem?

  I'm under VMWare fusion 3.0.0 (204229) under Mac OS X 10.6.2 on a Macbook pro system, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB Solid State HD.

  I tried to delete these files many times by reinstalling windows from scratch, then I started the backup of the VM and try to delete the files using various methods (with trash, not trash, etc.) and I'm never able to get VMware to clean virtual machine.

  All you have to do is just create a virtual machine in Windows 7 and you walk through the Wizard New VM just to leave the empty Windows product key on the Easy Install sheet and keep moving forward.

  Then once you have installed VMware Tools just follow the steps in Clean install Windows 7 with upgrade media to activate Windows.

  I'm running Labview 2011 and have an application that has been developed to run on Windows XP. The part of the application deletes a file from the System32 folder, and then replaces it with another version of the same file (based on a specific condition). It worked perfectly on Windows XP. Now that I've migrated to Windows 7, I changed the path to access the SysWOW64 folder, where now stands the same file. Now when I run the program, during the phase of elimination, I get the following error:

  Possible reasons:

  LabVIEW: File permission error. You do not have the correct permissions for the file.

  When I try to manually delete the file in the SysWOW64 folder, I get a popup to confirm the progress of the removal. The file is then deleted.

  Is there anyway that I can get permission to delete the file is automatically? I also tried to use the "Set permission" VI with the permission set to 511 (octal 777) but that VI also threw up the same file permission error.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Try to run your application with the option "Run As Administrator".  Windows 7 is very restrictive on who can do what.  It's generally a bad idea that requires deleting file to a system folder.  I think you should consider using a temporary directory to avoid this problem.

  It's basically my question above.  I saw exe virus, just sitting on this issue for years.   Maybe there should be a limit on how long a file can live in this folder. Microsoft should set policy or give the user the opportunity to choose this time.  What is an example

  You can remove them without making the overall Windows operatin, the question is why do you want to do this?

  I can only guess one of two things...

  (1) you're obsessed with cleaning the Windows folder (and all the others.)  A compulsion.

  (2) you are trying to free up as much space as possible for some reason any.

I have no way to use a cd drive or a USB on the laptop. Do I have to redo a file 'repair\system' from scratch, or is it on the hard drive in another directory? I read each article of Microsoft on the corrupted file / lack of issue, but there is no explanation for the repair file to miss.

  Again miss me the real "system" file in the directory "c:\windows\repair".

  I would write my own file system for this last reference if I do another repair of system like this, it would save a lot of my time.

  In any case, type the following lines of information in the order for Recovery Console screen and press (Enter) after each line:

  3 - copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

  It seems slow.  If you are used to use disks formatted FAT32, the stronger NTFS takes significantly longer because it does synchronously things that FAT32 things are started and left under the assumption that they will still complete successfully; and unfortunately that can sometimes cause problems.

  In addition to the suggestion of Ken Blake to find malware, I suggest that you check the installed utilities.  If you have one installed real-time backup programs, some of them can do a real job on the performance.  Try to start safe mode and try some of your slow deletions or copies.  Concerning copies, your antivirus program may cause a big performance hit because they verify each file as it is copied.  Temporarily disable your antivirus can greatly improve speed in many cases.  One thing you might want to try is DEFRAG if you haven't done so recently.  Modern versions of Windows generally do this automatically, but sometimes doing a DEFRAG manual can help.
