How to restore deleted files from Windows Media Player

Hi, I decided to use Windows Media Player as a software for my Samsung s3 mp3 player.

He acknowledged the mp3 player, so I've seen a few pictures, the mp3 player has (thanks to Windows Media Player), but I accidentally deleted.

Now they are gone, and I can not find them...

How can we get them?

    Original title: deleting files problem

I deleted a large number of music of my WMP library & computer files, but they are still listed in WMP. I can't play any of them as they were deleted, and I get a message telling me so when I try! Why are they still displayed in the list and how do I get rid of them? I tried to restart, changing the target folder, etc., without change. I even tried to remove all of the library (but not the computer this time) and they do not always go!

    Hi Jamie,

Welcome to Microsoft Community where you can find all the answers related to Windows.

According to the description provided, looks like you are not able to completely remove the files in Windows Media Player.

I have a couple of steps that should help you to solve this problem.

You can try to clear the database of Windows Media Player and check if it clears the titles and generic icons.

To do this, follow these steps:

    Method 1:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. click on Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player in the start search box and enter.

    3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Method 2:

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. click on Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the start search box and enter.

3 select the folder Media Player, and then click delete on the file menu.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Hi zztopzztop,

Instead of a new user account, you can move the public folder of music, and from there the two accounts are accessible and played.

    Check out the link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/sharing-files-with-the-public-folder

If you want to continue copying, then you can copy if the default location for the new user account.

Sign in with the user account that you may have created. To ensure that this new user account has administrator privileges.

    a. open the Explorer, click on organize, and select folder and Search Options

    b. click the display and check the option Show hidden files and folders box and click OK to save the settings.

Now navigate to your C:\Users\(Old Username folder) and copy all the files and folders in the folder C:\Users\(Old Username) in the C:\Users\(New Username folder).

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Cannot delete file in windows Media Player

I can delete video files from Windows Media Player. I think that I deleted them before somehow but standard photos (balloon, balloons) always appear in video library for all deleted files and try right-click and delete is not remove them from the library. There is no error message when you try to remove them and when you try to play them you get Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. I don't want to play the file I want to just delete it.

You probably need to reset the library to get rid of the files in the library. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

    -Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is started , double-click the service, and then click stop .
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this folder, rename the folder Media Player as Old Media Player . If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt.

  • How to play .asx files in Windows Media Player

original title; Can I play a video file of .asx with WMP? or if not, how to play with this extension .asx files?

Can I play a video file of .asx with WMP? or if not, how to play with this extension .asx files?

When I try to play the file, WMP shows error then update says "video codec".

How then can I get this update for the video codec?

    Thank you, Michael Phelps 907

    Hi Mike,.

an .asx file is not a media file. It is a file that contains a pointer to a content online. So if you are unable to read a .asx file and are able to play other files using Windows Media Player so the best thing is to open the .asx, a Notepad file. When you open the .asx using Notepad, you will see a link that starts by http: and so on. Please copy this link and go to Windows Media Player. On the Windows Media Player window, press the Alt key on the keyboard and click file and Open url. Paste the link and check if Windows Media Player is able to open the link. If she opens the link this is a problem with the formatting of the .asx file and if it does not open the link then it is a problem with the server online of the .asx file. It could be that it is deleted from the server.

Hope this information helps. Keep us informed on the status of the issue.

  • I have a problem with adding and deleting files in Windows Media Player.

Media Player will not play the selected files but then goes on to play other files. When I delete the files from the media player and try re - add I get the message "the media player is installed incorrectly. Have tried to reinstall media player, but it always fails at the implementation stage. It seems that the link between the player and the music files has been corrupted. Further, I have not found another way to read these files! They are referred to as Windows media audio files. Is that mean that only Media Player can read? I have hundreds of music files. Any help please? I can't upgrade XP on this computer so intended to stick with it for another year or so.

  • Try to remove deleted files from the Media Player library

There are video files in my Windows Media Player library that I deleted, but items still appear in my video library.  When I right click on the file and choose 'Remove', nothing happens.  The video files were originally in the folder my music and I deleted them using the Explorer.  However, they still appear in the Media Player library (even if they are not functional - because I have deleted!).  I followed what Umesh suggested GregRN, but that doesn't seem to work for me.  How can I get rid of deleted files appear in the Media Player library?   I use a HP Pavilion dv4 using Windows 7 (64-bit).

  • Transfer a file from Windows Media Player library to iTunes library

I recently downloaded 5 songs mp3 that I paid for, expecting to go on my iTunes account after the opening of each of them. They went into the Windows Media Player on my computer instead. How can I get these on my account iTunes so I can sync it to my iPod? I don't see anything on the Windows Media Player or iTunes to share between them.

The following article will help to find the music on your computer.

Where are my iTunes files located?

    http://support.Apple.com/kb/HT1391

All you need to do is add the songs to your new iTunes library.

Adding music and other content on iTunes

    http://support.Apple.com/kb/HT1473

    1. Open iTunes
    2. On the file menu:
    3. Add the file to the library
    4. Add a folder to the library
    5. Find and select the file or folder you want to add

If iTunes is set to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library", iTunes copy all content is added to the library of iTunes for the iTunes Music folder. To set this parameter, or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in the iTunes preferences.

  • How to open .zip files in windows media player? I get the msg file type not supported. MP3 files are in the folder.

Hi I downloaded audio files that you want to create a playlist on windows media player to download to my mp3 player so I can be more mobile to study. When I tried to play on windows media player I get error msg-file type is not supported or the codec is not compatible with the player. They are .zip files. inside are the mp3 files that I need to listen to. can someone help me.

    Hello

You need to open ZIP files, which are compressed to make it smaller, then use the content
in the application appropriate - so if the audio or video content can use WMP.

Compress and uncompress files (zip files)
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/compress-and-uncompress-files-ZIP-files

Although Windows has integrated ZIP, you might be more comfortable using a program
with more features (and works with different types of compressed files).

    7ZIP - free
