Deleting files is not releasing space

A few weeks ago I noticed that my Macbook pro (mid-2010) has been slow.  I took a quick glance to the disk utility and I saw that I had only 6 GB of free space!  Oops!  So, I backed up everything on my hard drive external and put to work.  I started going through my music (about 12 000 songs) and the removal of what I do really need or listen to and things that are doubled for some reason any.  I deleted about 2 000 so far.  I started to load my pictures on my photo site and then remove them immediately.  I deleted about 500.  I deleted about 5 000 unnecessary documents (teachers save everything!). I emptied all the caches.  And somehow, I have LESS space than when I started.   What should I do next?

Hate to ask what is obvious... you you empty the trash?

  • Deleting files to recover disk space?

    Greetings,

I'm trying to archive a large number of files on a CD in order to release an amount of disk space needed on my computer. I tried to put a .bat file to identify files and then edit it to copy to a CD and finally delete, but syntas does not reach me.

Coming from the old DOS times, I don't know how to handle path names super long windows. Attached, one of the lines in my .bat file, with a super long file name, not recognized, if I get an error. Can someone correct the syntax please or enlighten me? I kind of resist the manual approach based on Windows to delete files. Too many of them.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Deleted files do not appear in the Recycle Bin.

I checked the settings of recycling bin, and they are not the problem. In addition, there are 70 GB of free space on the hard disk.

If you have deleted files using SHIFT + DELETE then they bypass just trash, or when the size of the file that you delete is greater than the available space in the trash, then also the files are permanently deleted.

  • WMP library will not delete files, will not add files and in all songs albums are missing!

WMP library went crazy!  The song in my library are missing.  When I try to delete files from my library, it won't remove them and when I try to add new files to the library, it will not add them.  Help, please!

    Hi ljatos,

You can try this link to add folders to your library?
If you're still having problems, you can try to restore your windows media player.

    (1) Perform SFC first. Follow the link on how to make SFC (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833)

    (2) turn on / off Windows Media Player again.

    a. go to start and in the search type 'Turn Windows has or not'.

    b. click on the "Turn Windows features on or off".

    c. check the "media features.

    d. restart the computer.

You can also try restore (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/system-restore) your computer to the final point where windows media player worked.

Or you can use the previous versions of windows media player that comes from restore points or windows backup.

Or you can try to run 'Fixit '.

  • Deleting files is not free up space?

My problem is that I delete some files of a .sparseimage
and it did not appear that the memory is free, I have remove some movies because I didn't have a lot of memory. but to erase from my memory remains the same and empty the trash of course (of course with the open .sparseimage), repair the disk, restart the computer, all done and do not know how to solve this problem, I ask here because my hard drive is almost full and I really need this space, and now I have about 15 GB of files GHOST? , what happened to me before and I have no idea how to solve this

I do not use Time Machine or something like that...

sparseimages do not shrink on their own. You must do it manually, and it cannot be done in a "Terminal".

    1. eject the volume that represents your sparseimage

    2. open the Finder

    3. go to Applications-> utilities

    4. open Terminal

    5. at the command prompt, type

    hdiutil compact

Make sure you add a space after "compact". Return to Finder and drag-and - drop your sparseimage in the Terminal window. Press the ENTER key.

Wait for the command to the end, which could take some time depending on the size of your sparseimage.

    Hello

When Windows considers that a device is "Removable" there is no trash so
be sure that you really want to remove anything from those.

To see what readers will remove it from the trash - right click on the Recycle Bin on

  • deleted files are not going in the trash

When I delete a file, it is removed immediately after a warning message. Deleting the file just put it in the trash. I reinstalled the OS X El Capitan, but which is not fixed. I cannot find any setting that would cause this to happen. Any ideas?

    Hi Holly:

Try to open finder > finder Preferences > Advanced Tag and make sure "Show warning before emptying the trash" is checked.

    I also found this:

  • delete files does not

I tried to delete MS office documents. Whenever I have "delete" a file, it goes to the trash but also fooled himself. I now have up to 6 copies of the same document. How to stop this duplication?

You try to delete by dragging files to the Recycle Bin? If so, this problem occurs usually because the hand is not quite as stable as you would like. You move these files a little when you drag and creating additional copies.

First reduce the sensitivity of your mouse to the mouse applet in the control panel. Then change the way that you remove. Either select the files and then right click > delete or select files and use the file > delete. To select multiple contiguous files, highlight the first file in the series and then hold down the SHIFT key and select the last file in the series. All of your desired files will be highlighted. Then use the right-click or the procedure for removal to the file menu. To remove the non-contiguous files, hold down the CTRL key while you select.

  • Why has travel CS6 on the new disc not released space in the original location?

For a long time, I have reinstalled CS6 Design & Web Premium on my G drive, as I was running out of space on my disk C (SSD). Yesterday, I've upgraded to a new and much more big SSD as my system disk and decided to return CS6 on drive C. However, the results were not as I expected. Free space on my C drive has reduced to 3 GB, which seems plausible, but rather that it is accompanied by a similar increase of the free space on drive G, free space actually declined by 0.4 GB .

After checking the contents of the folders Program Files/Adobe and Program Files (x 64) /Adobe on both drives, it seems that Fireworks CS6 nor Flash CS6 has been moved during this installation, that still doesn't explain why the free space on my disk G decreased after reinstalling (despite running CCleaner and do a restart).

Anyone can shed some light on this problem?

Where it is relevant, I tried reinstalling using the copy of CS6 Design & Web Premium I downloaded originally from Adobe in 2012, which was perhaps not a good idea, since there are now a bunch of 1.7 GB of updates must be reinstalled.

    David

I uninstalled CS6 Fireworks and Flash CS6 drive G and them reinstalled on drive C. This time, it worked (Acrobat X Pro is also still on my G drive, but I have other issues that currently affect my ability to get him back on the C drive).

My first attempt to migrate CS6 disk C has been done by simply running the installer CS6 Design & Web Premium, i.e., I do not think that I first uninstalled the existing software. The installation program displays a clear indication that I installed on the C drive, which led me to believe that without prior uninstall was necessary, but I realize that I had missed see the popup messages saying "an earlier installation of this product were found. This product will be installed at its original location'.» It seems so my relocation a week ago (without a prior uninstall) moved to nothing!

It was before I realized that I had managed to pass all components of the CS6 on drive G a few years ago, but it seems now that if my memory was at fault and only Fireworks, Flash, and Acrobat have been moved to this disc.

  • How to exclude a page to report file drive "«not enough space"»

    Hello

I am very new to vCOPs and still learning, so be ;-)

On the alerts from my world page, I get a number of virtual machines that report "comments P:\ file system is saturated.  In this context, the P-drive are all disks that do not contain the pagefile and are usually almost full. Is it possible to exclude only P-readers but not the C, D, E-readers?

    Gabrié

I would say no: all detected partitions on VMware Tools will be mapped as an instance in the metric of "file system of comments. You can assign a different profile of on - or simply ignore the individual instances.

I think that you can simply ignore these (or better: remove them for a year). Over time, VCOPS will learn that these full P: disks are normal. In addition, depending on your environment, don't expect not that your volume of alert should be 0. My team only checks 'infra' critical alerts (host, cluster, vcenter), another team check things like disk space full or large amount of anomalies.

  • Deleted files show is not in the Recycle Bin

When I include a network folder in windows 7 or modify the 'Documents' target the destination to a network in XP folder... deleted files do not appear in the trash... This can be corrected?

Unfortunately, this is the way Windows has always worked and the behavior is not editable.

If you Google/Bing this problem, there are a few suggestions for workaround solutions that some people have used.

  • I get a message saying startup disk is almost full and to delete files. How can I go about it?

I have a macbook air and a message comes up saying that my boot drive is almost full and delete files to make more space. What files and where? Thank you.

Buy an external hard drive if you do not already have one and migrate personal files, things like documents, music, photos, videos, stuff like that.  Once they are on the external hard drive, delete them from your computer.  You would remove them the same way you would remove any other thing - click it, right-click, select "Move to trash."  Delete nothing however, until you have moved to an external drive.  If you don't save a copy somewhere, once you remove them, it's over and you can't get it back.

To understand what that other things that can be deleted are go up --> about this Mac--> storage.  This will tell you how many you have on your hard drive right now.  Post here a screenshot of it.

  • Sbmerge apply and deleted files

    Hello

It is rather a matter of curiosity, because I know that the fact is that if you merge changes from sandbox in which the files were deleted using ' Sbmerge apply ", deleted files are not deleted from the project. Is there a reason justifying the files marked as being deleted are kept in the project instead to identify and remove?

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards

    Felipe

There are two issues I see in the last to remove files and the application SBMerge.

I fixed one and this should be available in the next release, we will be fix soon.
