Deleting files is not free up space?

My problem is that I delete some files of a .sparseimage
and it did not appear that the memory is free, I have remove some movies because I didn't have a lot of memory. but to erase from my memory remains the same and empty the trash of course (of course with the open .sparseimage), repair the disk, restart the computer, all done and do not know how to solve this problem, I ask here because my hard drive is almost full and I really need this space, and now I have about 15 GB of files GHOST? , what happened to me before and I have no idea how to solve this

I do not use Time Machine or something like that...

sparseimages do not shrink on their own. You must do it manually, and it cannot be done in a "Terminal".

1. eject the volume that represents your sparseimage

2. open the Finder

3. go to Applications-> utilities

4. open Terminal

5. at the command prompt, type

hdiutil compact

Make sure you add a space after "compact". Return to Finder and drag-and - drop your sparseimage in the Terminal window. Press the ENTER key.

Wait for the command to the end, which could take some time depending on the size of your sparseimage.

  • Mobile library did not free disk space

I got my Macbook GB 512 Pro flew a few weeks back and I bought a MacMini I have another laptop.

The MacMini is only a 250G SSD and its already full.

I have storage iCloud but everything still seems to want to live on my SSD.

I moved the photo library (30G) of the SSD to a USB attached (formatted OSX extended) and naively expected to free up space when I deleted the original PL and emptied the Recycle Bin after you did.

Unfortunately there were no releasing 30 g at all and I still have the same problem.

My SSD Mac was / is also showing 20G of movies, all deleted or left the trashed SSD (and empty) - all this without release all space.

I am unable to save or update my iPad Pro due to lack of space (about 10 G of free disk SSD) - The MacMini tells me that there is not enough space on the SSD drive.

I is turned off and turned back on iCloud Photos and fact will restart but not luck. All my photos are safe in iCloud, so I don't really know what I have to do to free up space.

Someone at - it ideas or experience similar issues?

For the other category in the display of information storage, see this support article. If the display appears to be inaccurate, try to rebuild the Spotlight index of the boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name.)

Empty the trash if you don't have it already done. If you use iPhoto, emptying his trash internal everything first:

    ▹ iPhoto empty the trash

    In pictures:

▹ Show of the recently deleted ▹ file delete all

Do the same thing in other applications like Aperture, with an internal feature of the trash. Then, restart the computer. Temporarily, which will free up space.

According to the documentation from Apple, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the boot volume (as shown in the Infolog) for normal operation, not the mythical 10%, 15% or any percentage. You also need enough space to allow the growth of the data over. There is little or no advantage in terms of performance to get more free space than the minimum Apple recommends. Storage space you'll never use is wasted space.

See this support article for some easy ways to free up storage space. A common waste of space is old backups iTunes to mobile devices. As shown in this support article, select the devices tab in the iTunes preferences window, select the backup that you want to remove and click on delete the backups. Keep at least a backup of each device you use yet.

You can, if you wish, use a tool such OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and discover what is take up space. You can also delete files with it, but not unless you don't know you know what you remove and that all data is stored safely. This means that you have several backups, not one. Note that the ODS only works with OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") and later versions.

IMPORTANT: This comment is neither a recommendation nor an endorsement of any third party software. You should always do your own research to determine if the unknown software is safe and useful. Don't take the word of anyone, including mine.

Deletion of files inside a photo library or iTunes will damage the library. Such a library should be changed within the application that created it. It is the same for e-mail files.

Go further than if the problem is not resolved by the steps above.

ODS cannot see the whole file system when you run simply by double-clicking; He sees only the files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you must run it as root.

Back up all the data now.

Install the application in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it runs.

Triple-click any where in the text line below on this page to select, then copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing command + V. You will be asked for your login password.

The application window opens behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will finally show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.

I do not recommend that you make a habit of doing. Do not delete anything as root. If something should be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then remove by safer alternatives. If in doubt, leave it alone or ask for advice.

When you are finished with the app, he quit and also to leave Terminal.

  • Deleted files do not appear in the Recycle Bin.

I checked the settings of recycling bin, and they are not the problem. In addition, there are 70 GB of free space on the hard disk.

If you have deleted files using SHIFT + DELETE then they bypass just trash, or when the size of the file that you delete is greater than the available space in the trash, then also the files are permanently deleted.

  • Deleted files are still too much space on my hard drive, how to make their deleted permanently?

I deleted a large file containing about 60 gigs of my hard drive by sending to the trash and empty the collector, because the car was full.  All files were gone, my computer does not recognize free space and won't let me not defragment the hard drive or save any new data on the hard drive, saying that he is too full.  What should I do?

Either you have an application that saves you from yourself (Norton used to have what we call the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" which has given a second chance to restore files) or if you have something else take place.

Did you restart after having emptied the Recycle Bin?

Have you run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK)

Assuming that the answers to the two questions above is Yes and you are still weak on the disk, download and run JDiskReport, space that will graphically show you what files are taking up space on your hard drive.  For more advice, post back with the identification of the culprits.

If you do not have enough space to install JDiskReport (about 2 MB), here are some ways to save space:

    • Turn off System Restore (right-click on desktop > properties > system restore > check the 'Disable the the system restore on all drives' > OK)
    • Disable Hibernation (Control Panel > Power Options > Hibernate > uncheck > OK)
    • Disable the Indexing Service (instructions here)

When you turn the system restore, make sure that only your system (usually C:\) partition is monitored and then click the settings button in the System Restore tab and adjust the amount of space used by restoring the system to 1 GB.

  • Deleting files is not releasing space

A few weeks ago I noticed that my Macbook pro (mid-2010) has been slow.  I took a quick glance to the disk utility and I saw that I had only 6 GB of free space!  Oops!  So, I backed up everything on my hard drive external and put to work.  I started going through my music (about 12 000 songs) and the removal of what I do really need or listen to and things that are doubled for some reason any.  I deleted about 2 000 so far.  I started to load my pictures on my photo site and then remove them immediately.  I deleted about 500.  I deleted about 5 000 unnecessary documents (teachers save everything!). I emptied all the caches.  And somehow, I have LESS space than when I started.   What should I do next?

Hate to ask what is obvious... you you empty the trash?

    Hello

When Windows considers that a device is "Removable" there is no trash so
be sure that you really want to remove anything from those.

To see what readers will remove it from the trash - right click on the Recycle Bin on

  • deleted files are not going in the trash

When I delete a file, it is removed immediately after a warning message. Deleting the file just put it in the trash. I reinstalled the OS X El Capitan, but which is not fixed. I cannot find any setting that would cause this to happen. Any ideas?

    Hi Holly:

Try to open finder > finder Preferences > Advanced Tag and make sure "Show warning before emptying the trash" is checked.

  • delete files does not

I tried to delete MS office documents. Whenever I have "delete" a file, it goes to the trash but also fooled himself. I now have up to 6 copies of the same document. How to stop this duplication?

You try to delete by dragging files to the Recycle Bin? If so, this problem occurs usually because the hand is not quite as stable as you would like. You move these files a little when you drag and creating additional copies.

First reduce the sensitivity of your mouse to the mouse applet in the control panel. Then change the way that you remove. Either select the files and then right click > delete or select files and use the file > delete. To select multiple contiguous files, highlight the first file in the series and then hold down the SHIFT key and select the last file in the series. All of your desired files will be highlighted. Then use the right-click or the procedure for removal to the file menu. To remove the non-contiguous files, hold down the CTRL key while you select.

  • Do not free up space PS4000 Volume?

Hi all, a couple of questions.  You wonder why I see available numbers space very different in the EQL web gui vs vsphere client?  In the EQL GUI I shows 330 GB of free, but I show in vsphere client, 674 GB free.  Which seems to occur, is when I use a space on my volume EQL and then later release this space, it does not appear that EQL publishes the space.  for example, I svmotion a vm large volume 1 and Dell GUI brings additional space used.  I then move the same volume 2 system, but Dell's GUI displays always the same space used on volume 1?

Yes, it's exactly what it means, but that's fine.  The table does not indicate the OS, that it is "full".  The operating system will re-use blocks as needed.  It's the OS that knows what the blocks are available. She did this through his allocation table.  The table is only responds to requests from the server.   SCSI when writing you usually see the SCSI "WRITE10" command  Who has the number of block to save him and to put data.  The table has everything just as it says.   He doesn't care that it's already been written about.

With the new SCSI UNMAP command, the OS can now pass this info along to the storage device.

It basically says UNMAP/FREE block X
