Deletion of duplicates of digtal drive

Is it possible to delete duplicates of photos from a digtal drive without doing it one by one

Hello

What are these duplicate files, you are trying to delete?

And how these files accumulate on your hard drive?

You can try the steps mentioned below.

1. open search by pressing the logo Windows + F key.

2. in the find what box, type the name of the file that you suspect could be duplicated.

3. on the toolbar, click views, and then click details.

4 scroll down the list, looking for files with the file names and file extensions. When you find one or more of the files that match, compare their dates in the Date Modified column. If the dates are the same, the files are probably duplicates. You can open files and compare their contents to be sure.

5. click on the file you want to delete and press DELETE.

  • I can't delete a duplicate named folders created in error by Thunderbird while moving messages with drag and drop

I had created a folder with a long as name "Deborah Brown - HP laptop acting, very slow, etc." this file was created to contain messages that have been received in a top-level folder, and then moved to this to the appropriate ranking related emails many. I had done many times before without a problem. But this time, when I slipped and fell on a message in the folder a double was created, but accompanied by an annex of '2547417' at the end of the name. IIRC, the message was in the records at the time of the original and a copy. IIRC, I did not notice this at first and when I dragged/left down another message he created another folder in double, but this time with the suffix "211613d". At any given time more far in the process (I don't remember quite well how) both of these files got duplicated again but this time were with the same name with added suffixes as noted... something I wouldn't have imagined. Given that the messages I was moving were safely (?) stored in the original folder, I deleted the message content duplicated records duplicated without any problem and without any effect on the content of the original file.

Then I tried to delete the duplicate folders... not allowed. Then I noticed that if I tried to remove the second instance of each duplicate name, which was a success... at least as much as to move it to the trash. If I then returned and tried to delete the first instance it is, once again, not the law. I then tried to rename the files by adding a prefix a single character. Once more, if I worked on the second instance of the name I could rename it but would be foiled again if the first instance. Then, * I think * (extra large grains of salt here) is that I renamed the second instance and removed from the trash that I could then work on the others and rename and empty the trash.

But everything for nothing. If I closed Thunderbird and restarted the duplicate folder names reappearing. Then I tried the fix given for not being able to delete messages because of a corrupt trash folder. That did not help either. Even if I use a POP account and could remove the files from the two basket my account information, whenever I would restart Thunderbird trash will reappear by himself and the so-called deleted duplicate files right with her and in the hierarchy of their original folder.

I'm mystified and have given up trying to remove these things. Fortunately, the removal of messages from other folders and empty the trash of these messages seem to work normally. I have not yet tried to delete another folder and hesitate to do.

Thank you very much. Exactly, that solved the problem. There was almost no delay in starting. I'm still very curious as to how it happened, but it may never be known.

If your D: Bank the recovery Partition is set up by your computer manufacturer, you pretty much messed up royally.

Your recovery partition D is implemented by the manufacturer of your computer in the event of serious problems in your system.
You use it to restore your system.

You are NOT supposed to touch it... not for nothing is add or remove anything from him.

Call the manufacturer of your computer, ask to speak to a technicain. Tell the person what you did for the D drive.

    1. ask for a set of recovery DVD re - install Vista, if you do not have a game yourself.
    2. ask how to remove all elements that are NOT supposed to be there.
They created the recovery partition, they know how to take care of it.
Let them teach how you to.

It is not possible to have the files duplicate in a folder.

Perhaps mean you that you have duplicated files in * two * folders.

What can or should delete them depends entirely on what files
are and what they are in folders. If these are files of Windows, no doubt
No, but please be specific on the file names and folder.

  • How to delete the duplicate and photos using windows 7 x 64 bit?

I have a new computer using windows 7 x 64 bit. I noticed a lot of photos and files duplicate on my hard drive. It seems that any device that you plug into the computer it automatically records in the library under documents, music, pictures, etc... When configuring my e-mail or import/export does duplicate the same info, instead of ask or inform it is a duplicate. Help someone. I can't go directly to MS supports without going through many unnecessary changes. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT I CAN DO?

    Hello

If you look at the odds on these files, you can just about bet that they are safe to use.

    Glary Utility has 4 1/2

Need3Space - writing is here - 4 stars (not freeware)

  • Time Machine deleted messages on an external drive to the trash can on iMac are taking place on the hard drive?

I am struggling with a computer, try to empty the trash with 1million 300,000 Time machine backup files. It runs for two days now and won't install. At this rate, I'll need a week before my computer becomes viable. I don't feel able to go to the Terminal to do the trick. Also at this point, I'm afraid to stop the process again... Backups on an external drive of pigs 400 GB on my drive hard imac... I have so little room to work right now. I deleted some 200,000 files already yet the storage on my imac HD has not moved. The files in the Recycle Bin of the external drive really live on my hd now until they will be deleted if all goes well before Christmas?

I have a new computer to come next week so I'm wondering if I'll just reformat my entire hd in my imac to solve this problem... Any ideas?

You do all this in the Finder?

Time Machine has to delete the files from the user interface, normally "browsing Time Machine backup", navigate to the desired folder, and select the option "delete all backups of...» ». This is the approved way that should work.

If you are manually dragging the items in the trash of in a Time Machine backup, it can choke. Time Machine stores data with many levels of access control permissions & Finder seems to have difficulties to remove to empty the trash. In fact, I think that the TM drive has limits to prevent normal users to change data on this disk.

Personally, I think your safest option is to abandon the process, restart, erase and reformat the Time Machine drive. Who will lose all history backups but again in a clean condition seems to be better than trying to manually prune the Time Machine data. Time Machine removes old backups when it is full - so you shouldn't really need to intervene like this anyway.

Wait and see if anyone has a better idea.

P.S., each disk has its own "basket", so doing drag items should not fill your Mac startup disk. Maybe the operating system is out of memory, try to process all the files, exit other applications & see if that changes anything, you may have to wait just if you want to avoid to abandon the process.

  • With the help of successful library - Photos can delete originals on the hard drive?

I have "manually manage" my Apple photo library (that is, what some call the "referenced" option).

I created a smart photo album I want to permanently remove it from my Mac (out of focus, test shots, etc.). I'm curious to know if there is a way to use the Photo app to actually remove the vs photos through my individual files to perform this operation manually. This would be similar to iTunes when you remove the music, he asks if you want to delete the original files.

I figured out how "reveal in finder" - but that does not let me do a single image at a time. I would rather try to make it in bulk.

To be clear, I know how to remove pictures of pictures. I would go a little further and remove them from my Mac altogether.

If you use a library "referenced" then it is your responsibility to delete the source files / referenced from the drive hard when you delete them from the photo library.  I have not seen any solution mentioned in these forums on how to automatically delete the source files.  One of the several disadvantages to manage a library of reference.

If the extra work required to locate and delete the source files became too much, you can always consolidate library while it's now a "managed" and then deleting the library library will remove the files from the hard drive as well.

  • Question about deleting data from the HARD drive

    Hello

The C drive on my computer satellite phone is almost full, 1.21 Gb free of 55.7 and drive E has 10.9 GB 36 GB free. How can I solve this problem. I am not concerned by what is deleted. It can go if you have to.

Slowing down the laptop down to something serious.

    Any help would be great.

    Hello

It seems that drive E has little more free space
So, you can move some files like photos, movies, files pm3 or any that you have stored on the partition, the partition E.

You can also reduce the E partition and can add free space on the C partition.
To do this, you must use a 3rd party software
I recommend using a freeware tool called * Gparted.*

How to get it? Google is your friend ;)

  • If I downloaded photos on my iphone on my hard drive from the desktop computer, can I remove iphoto library without deleting them on the hard drive?

I received the message that my iphone storage is almost full.  It is mainly from photos and videos.  I deleted the videos and have uploaded my photos on my hard drive of computer desk top of the page (which is a Dell non Apple products).  Can I now enter into the iphoto library and delete photos without losing those I downloaded on my desktop computer.  If so, how do I?  Thank you D

iCloud is a synchronization system, not an external 'hard drive '. If you remove them on your device, they will remove icloud. To increase the available space, go settings/iCloud/Photos and select optimize iPhone/iPad storage. That will reduce the space required by 90% when it is fully effective.

  • Satellite L555 - 10M - deleted Partition D and HARD drive recovery

    Hi all

I deleted my D partition on my laptop also drive HARD recovery. Now my Question is how to retrieve an Image on this Partition? I have a recovery CD and I can start it but it s only a picture for Windows 7 32 bit.
If I boot from CD then a warning appears, who asked if I have already created an Image. If I click Next, then it will format my C Partition.

Can someone tell me how I can create a new Image without C format?

    Thank you very much

    Hi hardpoekel,

Why you deleted the D partition if you didn't create the Toshiba Recovery disk? Sorry, I put t understand.

I think the point is that drive recovery of what you have now only contains an image of Windows 7 32 bit. AFAIK on Satellite L555 - 10 M is Windows 7 64 bit preinstalled and create a recovery for this OS disc, to use the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. But now it of too late because you deleted the files on this disc.

I think that going back to Windows 7 64-bit, you can order a Toshiba Recovery disk:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

You can use the recovery disk from current 32 bit without any problems, but it will only restore 32-bit version instead 64-bit.
