Deletion of the snapshot

Dear team,

Before you install the standard edition of SQL 2012 on a virtual machine, I got instant.

After installation I m get number of question, that's why I decided to go back to the snapshot, post back with success VM works very well. I still this snapshot then how to safely remove this snapshot of the VM without losing the current state.

concerning

Mr. VMware

As already mentioned use "Delete" or "Delete All" to get rid of a snapshot files only or all.

Once you create a snapshot, a new delta snapshot file is created and all other changes are stored in this file. Go back to the snapshot, only discards all changes in this delta file, but does not remove the disc, which is why you still need to 'Remove' the snapshot after returning.

  • I - delta.vmdk files, non - .vmsn files. It is safe to delete all the snapshots in snapshot Manager?

    Hello

Our VM froze because our ESXi data store is full. I deleted - .vmsn for the 1st file snapshot via CLI (using the "rm" command).

VM is on thick disk and have 2 snapshots. so I still - flat.vmdk, - delta.vmdk. (for the two snapshots) and - .vmsn (only for the 2nd snapshot).

wouldn't be all right if I delete all the snapshots in snapshot Manager? ATM, we don't have that 8 GB on the data store, and snapshot size is approximately 67GB

    Thank you

    Dan

The lack of . VMSN file shouldn't cause problems because it is necessary in case you want to or need to go back to a snapshot. In all cases, with only 8 GB of free space on the disk, you can consider deleting the snapshot with the virtual machine being turned off. This avoids the need for disk space temporary additional database snapshots while / delta are merged into the base/flat disc.

  • Delete all the snapshots State hooked up to 95%

Any ideas why my task to delete all the snapshots status is attached to 95%?  It has been like that for a few hours.  I had 7 sequential shots that I need to remove to create space on my data store.  My data store's display file snapshot of 28,04 KB.  I need to make a new snapshot of my server, but do not know if it is safe to proceed since my first task to delete all snapshots do not show a State of complete.  Any ideas or help someone?

This is normal, especially if you have a lot of drive to commit.  Once completed, you should be ok.

  • On the deletion of the snapshot

    Hello

I have a guest host ESXi 4.1 with a BONE (Cesto). The total space of the VMFS(data store) score is 550 GB. Out of 550 only 25 GB is now available. There are 4 snapshot of this OS (the last is 250 and the first 45 GB) Guest. I want to remove the snapshot 1.

    1. which is the best way to remove this snapshot?

    2. If I want to delete the snapshot using vSphere Client, what are the effects of negetive.

The client is a server hosting with 200 clients, so I can't bare the downtime. Please give me a better way to do it. If possible, please provide the links to complete these steps.

    Thanks in advance.

Basically, I agree with continuum and cloning would be the safest way to do this clean up. However if I understand the situation, you should be able to delete the snapshots with the virtual machine without interruption of service. What I realized, this is:

    • you run ESXi 4.1
    • data store size Go 550, 25 GB free
    • all snapshots appear in the Snapshot Manager
    • the virtual machine is the only VM on this data store
    • VM has a thick drive put in service (adding the size of the files, this should be the case)

    can you confirm this?

In this case, you can remove the first snapshot (the one closest to the basic disk) without needing additional disk space, with the exception of the changes that go to the most recent snapshot. With 25 GB of free disk space, that should be ok! After the first snapshot was merged on the basic disk, you should have 80 additional GB of free disk space (according to timestamps, 000002.vmdk snapshot file is the oldest snapshot, the file names are not necessarily in ascending order), in which case you can now decide to continue to clean up snapshots by one or by using 'Delete All' to get rid of all snapshots.

  • vCenter esx 5.5 - consolidate the snapshot fails with an error occurred by consolidating the discs: msg.snapshot.error - NOTFOUND?

I don't know why is this error?

I got an error that the virtual disk space was low tool and my vm has been automatically turned off.  I scoured the data store and I saw old clichés that were very important which could be removed.

I went into the Snapshot Manager and has tried deleting them and started getting the error msg.snapshot.error - NOTFOUND.

The clichés that I deleted since the Snapshot Manager always appear when I browse the data store, but are locked.

I really need to be able to consolidate these pictures in the parent company.  100 GB free on the store of data right now.

If I try to take a new snapshot it fails and says: an error has occurred when taking a snapshot: msg.disklib.OPENPARENT.

I also noticed after the fact that my hard drive is pointing to the most recent snapshot rather than to the parent.

I think if I edit the .vmx file and change it so that it points to the parent would be the load, but then I will not lose the clichés?

I like to keep at least the most recent roll in parent company snapshot.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello!

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, a part of the problem is that the data store was running out of space.  If I didn't have space or time to try a clone.

I did a reboot and after that has been able to update the CID to get the right string after I changed the hard drive to point to the base file, power, created a snapshot, turned off and pointed to the hard drive in the last snapshot.

But there was a corrupt, one in the list since my VM corrupted after all the snapshots consolidated (+ 6 hours later).

I didn't have a lot of time to continue to troubleshoot or try a clone on another virtual server, we have little space so I started from scratch.

Fortunately, I discovered that my backups of the data have been very well, I so reinstalled Windows and started from scratch.

    Thanks for the suggestion though!

Hope this helps someone else because I just watched as he went to work, and I don't know if a clone would have gotten it going or not.

  • Merger of the snapshot disks failed

I tried to delete all the snapshots with the corresponding key of vSphere Client. But in the end, my data store was full. Some view-popup and check if there is enough free space would be great for the future.

The disk is named as dish (vSphere Client and the file is called disk - flat hard). But the 12G drive is only about 2G of fat. I think that this problem was which extends the size of the disk (previously was a thin disk, it was named after its expansion in thickness). Someone of you did this, also?

When a correctly created flat disc, is always possible merging without needing extra space?

The virtual machine still works, so I think that there is no loss of data (only some data is written twice-> in a single vmdk file and a parent). I have a space to another data store. I think that there are vmkfstools on the console hidden ESXi (or SSH). I can use them to create a vmdk file (descriptor of + - flat.vmdk file) to the another data store. Is this possible with the different delta-snapshot files or will it cause problems? Can I then use the unix mv command to move the data store original (after I deleted the old files) or what I need to change the descriptor file, or something similar?

    Thanks for your help!

    Reason: snapshots for vmkfstools

To resolve the situation, I recommend that you create a clone of the disc on the other data store, test it and if it works, you can remove the old disk and copy/move the clone in the original folder.

-Create a new folder on the second data store (for example ' clone')

    -stop the virtual machine

    -vmkfstools-i /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/YourVM/YourVM-00000x.vmdk d /vmfs/volumes/datastore2/clone/YourVM.vmdk thick

-create a backup of the current vmx file

-Open "Edit Settngs" and point the virtual disk on the cloned disk

    -test your virtual machine

-If everything is ok you can delete files vmdk in the original folder, copy the vmdk cloned in this folder and change the settings of the virtual machine

In the command "vmkfstools" you must specify the current instant vmdk file as the source. You will find the name of the snapshot in VM settings or in the vmx file.

  • Help! Remove the snapshot

    Hello

It is an Exchange virtual server. Someone on my team tried to take a snapshot, while it is online, and it has not been successful. It was to ask him something like do not include "memory of the Virtual Machine. He did and the snapshot was created. Now, when I look at the files on the storage directory, I'm confused. I do not understand why the vmsn file is so small and why there are three vmdk files (I have only two hard drives on this machine).

This machine has two readers. A single system (drive C) and data (drive E). C is a virtual disk, while E is a Raw mapped LUNS ("Compatibility Mode: / persistent virtual /Independent"). It's time to remove the snapshot, but I'm not confident enough on that. Please see the picture I have attached. I need someone to clarify what these files and suggest a safe way to remove the snapshot. I can't afford much time for this critical server.

    Much appreciated,

    Eagleh

    Hello

The suggested method for sure is to delete all the snapshots of the graphical user interface, as it has already been answered. The files that you see are the following:

Exchange.VMDK - 1 volume logic, there is actually a hidden or both files which does not appear in the data store Navigator. Its called something like Exchange - flat hard

2nd Exchange_1.VMDK logical volume. In this case, a pointer to a RDM and a hidden file which is the delta of the snapshot (Redo Log). This only works if the RDM is in compatibility from snapshot mode.

Exchange - 000001.vmdk 1 logical volume delta file.

images of memory *. VMSN VM in this case, it is small because the 1try failed, and the second was set to ignore the capture of memory.

    Hope that helps.

    Kind regards

    Mike

  • ESXi 3.5: Delete all current snapshots for a week now

    Hello world

last week, I decided to remove a specific snapshot of some virtual devices and received an error message indicating the snapshot cannot be deleted.

Next thing I tried was ' delete all the snapshot. It seemed to work at first, but now - a week later - VMware Infrastructure Client still shows 'ongoing'.

    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance!

Check that your snapshhot Manager would be a way.  In addition, you can browse the data store, you should only see VMname.vmdk, or by cheque in the CLI

.. .but restart management agents will not affect anything.  If this has been ongoing for a week, I think it's just a thing of vCenter.

Alternatively, you can restart your vCenter Server Service.

  • Delete the snapshot files

I have a Windows 7 VM running on an Intel Mac computer. The size of the VM folder is about 280 GB. A large part of this weight belongs to the snapshot files. I copied the Windows 7 VM on a real Windows 7 machine and its opening perfectly using the VM player and everything works fine.

All I want to do is the snapshot of the files detected, because it takes a lot of space on my disk. I can do by the player, or what I need to do this on the Mac where it all started?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Chaz

After going through the Menus you see snapshot commands?, no!

While you can run a Virtual Machine that has Snapshots in VMware Player you can only manipulate them with Instances of the ACE.

    Otherwise, some options are...

Add a second virtual hard drive and clone the existing to the new and then swap the VHD on.

Use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone and create a new Virtual Machine from the existing.

Install VMware Workstation and use it to delete snapshots.

Install the SDK for the VMware virtual disk and vmware-vdiskmanager allows to create a new hard to replace existing ones.

Back to VMware Fusion and delete snapshots.

Firstly it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway...  Always back up all of the Virtual Machine with the Virtual Machine within the OS, not suspended, and Fusion to stop closed before trying to make repairs on a virtual hard disk.

This may not work if it's the basic disk that needs to be repaired and the Virtual Machine has snapshots, but I go through it.  You can try to use "/ Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vmware-vdiskmanager ' with the '-r' option.  Note: If the basic disk do not while snapshots are at stake, because it will cause more problems so my suggestion is first try to create a new basic without snapshots disk using the information below (see another option).

Also one of the reasons to delete a snapshot may fail if there is no adequate free disk space for the operation ends so make sure you have a lot of free disk space.

Another option would be to create a new basic disk, and then use dd by using an Image of CD/DVD/ISO Linux Live in the image of the old drive so written delta in snapshots to a new basic disk.

I like to use the ISO Image of KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD - 2007-01-04 - IN .iso to start the Virtual Machine and use dd to leave because it works well with VMware SCSI virtual hard disks.

Also in Fusion 2.x, configuration the target Virtual Machine's .vmx file must be changed manually to have the present following parameters when using Knoppix.

    usb:0.deviceType = "mouse"
    usb:0.present = "FALSE"
    mouse.vusb.enable = "FALSE"

Note: The first two parameters may already exist but if the other exists and is set to true, then set it to FALSE and the third are probably already so just add it.

  • Snapshot Manager was unable to remove the snapshot but deleted the reference to it. Now what?

I was working with my VMware Workstation, when I was running from not enough space on my host machine.

I decided to go to my virtual machine and delete all unused snapshots to recover disk space.

When I tried to do it, using the Snapshot Manager, I learned that it was not enough disk space to complete the operation, but references to the snapshot files have been deleted, which means I can try more to remove the old clichés.

How can I recover diskspace wasted, now that the snapshots are no longer visible in the list of snapshots?

I scoured my error log and came across this error message, so who can provide any useful information:
