Dell XPS 8700 Windows 10 questions with SD card reader

Hi, I bought a new Dell XPS 8700 three months ago.  It comes with Windows 8, even if I asked for preinstalled Win10.  The Win10 upgrade process was fairly straightforward.  However so far three times the SD card reader stopped working.  I fix it by reinstalling the drivers.  Its not working again and my USB stopped working also.  Is there a background process that interferes with USB / SD card drivers?  Anyone else noticed this behavior.

Rgds Frank

You can try this:

Go into Device Manager, and then double-click the entry for your SD card reader. Assuming that he has one, click on the power management tab, and uncheck the box 'allow the PC turns off... ». Now, do the same thing in Manager of devices for all your USB root hubs.

Then go to the options screen to win 10 powers, click on advanced settings and turn off hybrid sleep. Reboot and see if that helps.

  • Windows 8.1 does not appear in the store Windows Dell XPS 8700

My desktop computer Dell XPS 8700 arrived yesterday, but I can't upgrade Windows 8 to 8.1 of Windows. I went to several Microsoft Web sites where they say on a Windows update and I have to have before the upgrade is displayed in the Microsoft store. I checked I did all Windows updates available including
you need to upgrade to 8.1. I tried "wsreset.exe" running to clear the cache of Windows store. This is not a business system. It's a regular OEM Dell version of Windows 8 that came with the machine. No matter what I do the update does not appear in the Windows store. I thought maybe since I was using the same Microsoft account for my laptop I already upgraded 8 to 8.1 that maybe he thought I was already updated. So I created a new account of Microsoft, created a new user, delete the old user and tried to get the upgrade as a Microsoft account fresh and a user. Still no luck. I saw another person posting a message on a forum somewhere that had a similar problem on this exact model as the only answer that I was to go to the Microsoft page that tells you to do what I've done. Any suggestions or websites where I could crosspost this problem would be much appreciated.

I copied and pasted the steps below from another thread. The procedure worked for me both my 8700 s after that I had tried just about every other proposed solutions. I hope that the procedure will work for you too (assuming that you have not already tried).

    (1) uninstall KB2871389 and restart.

    (2) download the update of Microsoft KB2871389--> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40098

    (3) manually install the KB2871389 update and reboot.

    (4) you must now (I hope) see the 8.1 update in the Windows store.

  • Dell XPS 8700 - failure of the keyboard when the bios boot (but not when Windows is loaded)

My Dell XPS 8700 has 10 Windows and a Logitech Keyboard wireless, connected by USB. The keyboard works absolutely fine when Windows has loaded. I have the latest version of the bios, A11.

However, when the computer is turned on and starts the bios start, it displays 'Keyboard Failure' on the screen for about half a second. When I try to go into the bios setup by pressing "F2" at the counter (I keep typing "F2" from the moment when I press the power button on the computer), there is no answer. The "keyboard failure" and inability to enter the bios setup seems to happen if I do a cold immediately after a stop start, a cold start after the computer is turned off for an extended period or a reboot.

I tried to connect the wired keyboard original Dell one of the USB ports on the front of the unit (without disconnecting the wireless keyboard) with the same problem at the start of the bios.

I encountered this problem on versions of bios A11 both A03. I know that in the past, although I don't remember when - I was able to enter the bios setup by pressing "F2".

Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?

You can try and reset the CMOS. It will return your settings to factory settings, but not the version. Usually, this erases these problems because CMOS stores data editable such as your wireless keyboard settings. BIOS stores the information about the basic material that is unchangable as your keyboard usb, mouse and other essential equipment. If you notice, when you just plugin any keyboard and mouse, its recognized at startup. Your needs software to run wireless device and that is stored in the CMOS.

So once reset you the CMOS, you may need to then install the wireless software.

    Good luck.

  • Clarity on a Dell XPS 8700 with 2 TB SATA + Intel® SRT 32 GB SSD Cache harddrive

    Hello

I am buying a Dell XPS 8700 with a SATA hard drive with a 32 GB SSD cache. I want to know if the SSD is a separate physical disk SATA hard disk, it will be the M.SATA chip on the motherboard.

Please it is confirmed; I can by adding a larger 256 GB internal SSD, with the o/s re installed on the SSD with HDD as storage of 2 TB.

    Best regards & Thanks Sean

    Hi Sean,.

Yes, it's an mSATA SSD and scalable. You have the option to install the OS on a bigger mSATA SSD if you choose to do.

  • DELL XPS 8700 compatible with the monitor Samsung Syncmaster 2232 office

HI - can anyone confirm that the DELL XPS 8700 desktop computer is compatible with the monitor Samsung Syncmaster 2232.

Already, I have the monitor, but need a new processor unit.

    Thank you...

    Hi yydelilah,

The monitor has VGA and DVI ports.

By default, XPS 8700 comes with HDMI and display port.  If the system is configured with a discrete card, and this card has DVI/VGA port, you will be able to connect to this monitor.

  • Question microphone Dell XPS 8700

Hi, I had a problem identical to that described in this forum post:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3513/t/19613125

Where my microphone is always so calm and creates a very large amount of white noise or static on this specific computer (a dell XPS 8700), but works fine on all other computers. I have already tried to connect on the front and rear mic ports, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software, using different microphones, using a converter USB 3. 5 mm and adjusting the settings of microphones. It's all just too quiet and increasing the static gain becomes unbearably noisy.

So, I expect to have this problem resolved in the same way, in a sound card to try being sent because the built-in drivers simply do not work as they should. Although if there is another solution, I would be happy to hear it.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Dell XPS 8700 replace / add mSATA SSD

I have a new Dell xps 8700 and I put in an mSata 500 GB SSD, planned on getting 2 TB hard drive and simply run the pc of the ssd. My problem is the operating system. I have the recovery disk and the disk from Dell drivers. the pc came with Windows 8.1, I upgraded to 8.1 Pro with Media Player. I don't think that the Dell disk will do a clean install of OS 8.1, and I'm not sure to recover the operating system and disk set, since I upgraded to 8.1 PRO. I don't really have a problem with just the Windows 8.1, and then do the upgrade again. I think maybe even the simplest would be to try Windows 10 on it, I ran beta Windows on other computers. My Question is that I have upgraded to Windows Pro 8.1, I'll be able to get the full version if I try to recover / and with the correct product key. or do I use the recovery disk, and then try to make the OS drive / and collect the key?

If you create recovery discs using Dell software, it will install windows 8.1 as if you bought the computer fresh from the factory with all the software that Dell gave you etc.  You then upgrade to windows 8.1 pro via the same method as you have done before, however if they gave you a product key, you should be able to just pop that in and make the upgrade.  You could make an image of your HARD drive, then run everything on the SSD by cloning the drive for the SSD.

  • 3 installation of monitors on Dell XPS 8700

    Hello

I realize that he had already given a few questions and answers on this topic, but I'm still a little confused, because this kind of thing is not my strong point.  I would be very happy to help here.

I just got a new Dell XPS 8700 with a videocard of NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 745 4 GB DDR3.  I'm going to need to have a 3 monitor configuration in the near future and I was wondering the best way to make this work.  The video card has 1 VGA - HDMI, DVI-D-1 and 1.  Separated from the video card, there is an another HDMI and a Displayport.

I have not completely made my decision between 3-23 "or 2-23" with 1-27 "immediately.  (Will not be the fanciest monitors in the world). Exodus 3 - Dell S2340M or 2 of those and pick-up and Ultrasharp for fun.

I'm not a gamer.  I'm a trader.  I can't manage any lag when updating. I'm not too concerned about the image is as clear as possible.

Thank you much for the help.

You can use as well the equipped with an Intel HD4600 video card and a video card discreet if Intel Multi display is enabled in the Bios. With the Intel option enabled multi-display, HDMI on Board will be the primary display and ports on the discrete card screen will become secondary display. Read this article before you proceed.

  • Dell XPS 8700 - Recommended 500W PSU +? (for GTX 970)

Hi I have a dell xps 8700 currently equipped with a GTX 745, I want to upgrade to a GTX 970.

I know that this has been a big problem in the past, but I just want to check a few things: is - it works even in the first place? Replace the power supply and update the BIOS to a10? I'm hoping to get a definitive right or close enough answer to the question of whether it works or not, especially since he was a few months after the last major discussion forums.

And the main question, which is a recommended PSU is going well replace my current 460W one?

CORSAIR CS750M works in every Dell I have ever installed in it.

No power problem.  You may need to remove the optical drive so that you can get the old and the new, because it's a very tight fit.

Once in the optical drive can back up.

550W is too small.  Generic 550W power supply is ACE is NOT GOOD as the Dell 305 w PSU.

    The EPS12V 2.92 specification guarantees 170w combined on the 5V / 3.3V rails and 20W on the 5VSB and 45 amps on a single 12V rail.

Note on the label for the Dell they provide 20W on the 5VSB.

    That's why I recommend an EPS12v Corsair CS750M

You need a certified Power Supply EPS12V 2.92

Supply Dell 20-25W + 5VSB and most of the cheapo units have 10W or less.   Dell Supply guaranteed 130 to 180W on 3.3v / 5v rail and other are not.

Minimum recommended unit is CORSAIR CS750M.

  • HP Photosmart Premium C309g not install on Dell XPS 8700

It was to find work as a printer ethernet with my Dell Optiplex 790 on Windows 7 Pro, and Windows 8 Pro.

Have a new PC now... the Dell XPS 8700.

At first, I had problems adding network printers that I've never had before. Had to do with my installation of drivers GotomyPC and kernel, I suppose. Found a GP to disable doctor who was not allowing the kernel drivers must be loaded and sets.

Then I tried to install the printer C309g. The printer has detected and tried to install it and was stuck at 42% for about 1 to 2 hours. I restarted and then uninstalled... Uninstall becomes far and then stops now. Followed the instructions with my ESET security.

Then I tried again... it installed the driver but could not find the printer (which was the and connected)... tried to add a device a few times with no luck.

Uninstalled (abandoned again separated by the uninstall). Any suggestions on how I can get this printer working again?

    SOLVED

Don't know what thing took care of him, but I ran the HP uninstall for all-in-one and I uninstalled ESET and be on the safe side, even uninstalled gotomypc (which shouldn't matter). Then tried to install it again and it worked very well. I'm leaning towards a combination of ESET (Version 7) and the uninstall utility that probably did the trick. Since reinstalled ESET and gotomyPC and everything seems OK now. It can even help to unplug and plug in the printer (wall plug) since these printers sometimes have problems of power even when you have plugged into the wall outlet and the printer seems to be OK, but this isn't somehow.

I just purchased the Dell XPS 8700 (i7-4790) / 16 GB and the 27 '' Dell monitor S2715H.  The graphics card is Nvidia GeForce GTX 745.

The monitor turns on but that's it.  And I see that the PC power supply light is also on.  But there is no picture.

After spending several hours in my own train, then with Technical Support Dell on phone that says I need a VGA cable (tried).  But I STILL get the error after (in italics below).

  • Failures of start-up and recovery Dell XPS 8700

The system is 2 years old.  No recovery image was never created.

    Here are the original symptoms.

    1. cannot start Windows 8.1 on Dell XPS 8700.
    2 OS refresh fails.
    3. OS restore points fail.
    4. OS auto repair fails.
5 restart the failure of Options (Safe Mode, start Debug mode).
    6. command prompt fails (cannot find all administrator accounts).

    Done so far:

Created a bootable flash drive. After changing the BIOS setting to boot using the USB key, first of all, the PC started successfully. Then, I was able to access the command prompt and save the user data files.

Then, I went back into the BIOS and changed the boot order to the internal HARD drive. I rebooted and finally started a reset from the PC (factory restore). After the reset process has reached 4%, I got a reset failure message. A subsequent reboot then gave me an error message file BCD 0xc000000d "the BCD file is missing information". The next restart gave, I can best recall, 'no partition not found on the internal hard drives And I could see no longer the menu of UEFI, just the BIOS (A06) firmware. After change the order of boot and boot to the flash drive, I could see that a lot of files apparently had been marked for deletion on the C: drive as user profiles did not appear. At one point, the flash player had become the C: drive and HARD drive is X:. But which cleared up later. After getting the quick C: folder to the HARD drive, I published the following commands Bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot, Bootrec scanos Bootrec rebuildbcd Bootrec. After trying to start once more on the internal HARD disk, I had another variant of the BCD file error, 0xc00000098 "the BCD file contains no valid information for the operating system".

Any chance of recovery in this situation?  Otherwise, I guess we will have to get a replacement drive (that is, SSD) and a copy of Windows 10.   Thank you.

    Hi 2Tallinva,

Yes, that sounds like a hard disk failure. You can try this site to download a disc Windows 8.1. Of course, a free update to win 10 is better than paying for an OS you already entitled to.

  • Dell XPS 8700 how turn on?

I have a desktop computer tower Dell XPS-8700 newish PC. He died during the other days of power outage, and now I can't turn it back on. It doesn't seem to be any power button visible on the front of the unit. On the back, just below the power connector is a small push button. If I push the fans and things seem to start that going on, but as soon as I release the button it turns off again. How can I activate this PC?

I can't believe I have to ask this question after 30 years of use of PCs.
