XPS 8700 - Windows 8 w / Intel Smart Response Technology re - install

Hello community,

My hard drive in my XPS 8700 failed recently. I got a replacement and have installed the new drive in the chassis. It's the only drive (2 TB), but I also (30 GB) SSDS for Intel Smart Response Technology.

I have a problem with the OS / Intel Smart Response technology Setup. I'm trying to (re) install Windows 8 of the disc. When I run the installation of the OS, just after choosing language preferences a screen will appear indicating that a media driver is missing.
"Load driver".
A media computer driver needs is missing. It could be a driver DVD, USB or HDD. If you have a CD, DVD or a USB flash drive with the driver on this subject, please insert it now.
Note: If the installation media for Windows is in the DVD or on a USB drive, you can remove it safely for this step. »
I guess it's regarding the pilot of SORTS. I tried to put the pilot SORTS on a USB but it is not detected when browsing.
"Load driver".
No pilot of the plane have been found. Make sure that the installation media contains drivers and then click OK. »
I need help ensuring the RAID and BIOS are correct before installing Windows 8 with TRIE. Currently, neither the SSD or HARD disk created a RAID Volume (note No changes have been made in the BIOS, but the existing RAID configuration has been removed from the SSD).
Emergency assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In collaboration with a Dell technician by CAT, we have identified the problem with the driver files SORTED on the USB. I tried to download from the driver and Utilities disc that came with the computer, however the correct files are not extracted from the USB.

The tech located the driver appropriate and after extract the USB driver has been detected.

  • Problem starting Windows 8 (associated with quick start + Intel Smart Response Technology SSD cache)

    Hello
I have a problem with the fast start-up of Windows 8. When I shut down my PC everything works fine, but when I turn on the PC, Windows will load until a certain point and then suddenly start screen appears again. The second departure is always successful.

I discovered, when I turn off the Quick start, the computer starts without error on the first attempt. It goes the same for when I disable Intel Smart Response Technology (SSD cache). There are no problems when I use Hibernate mode.

Recently I did a BIOS update, so I don't know if there is a setting in the BIOS that is may cause this error?

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • How do I configure Intel Smart Response on my hybrid drive

I have a laptop HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO. I have a 1 TB HDD with a SSD of 32 GB used for caching and acceleration using Intel Smart Response Technology and Rapid Storage Technology console. I had to send in my computer for warranty service which included the replacement of the hard disk. I figure that the SSD is not configured.  Below I have screenshots of the screen that displays now after the POST (which did not appear until I sent it to the service) and the console Intel RST.

Just trying to get back to its original settings, where it uses Intel Smart Response Technology to improve performance.  How can I configure the SSD account given what shows in the screenshots below?

(You may have to right-click on the image and open it in a new tab to see it enlarged.)

Since she came back, I get the following after the POST screen.  I am limited to the 3 options (reset on a drive non-RAID) and 6 (output):

Technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology console:

It's corrected now. To fix it, I did a complete backup of my files and settings, and then, in the window of the acceleration, I clicked on separate. I've also given to SSD available. After restarting a couple of times, everything seems normal.

  • Y510p and Smart Response Technology - cannot be enabled

Yesterday, I received my new Y510p from NewEgg. It includes a 1 TB HDD and an SSD of 24 GB. It comes with Windows 8, I don't want to use. Therefore, I decided to clean the system completely and install Windows 7.

I have overshadowed the two disks after the firmware in legacy mode, changed the "OS" setting by default optimized to "Other OS" and performed a clean installation of Windows 7. Drivers Intel Smart Response show no indication that the acceleration is possible. I then remembered that the controller must set to RAID for this feature to work. However, the firmware doesn't have this option: the only choices are AHCI and "Compatible" (for IDE mode).

How can I get RAID to appear here, so that I can properly configure SRT? Or y at - it another way to get this working?

The Y510p don't use SRT Intel. It uses Expresscache for SSD caching. To see if expresscache is working properly, follow the link below:

  • Dell XPS 8700 Windows 10 questions with SD card reader

Hi, I bought a new Dell XPS 8700 three months ago.  It comes with Windows 8, even if I asked for preinstalled Win10.  The Win10 upgrade process was fairly straightforward.  However so far three times the SD card reader stopped working.  I fix it by reinstalling the drivers.  Its not working again and my USB stopped working also.  Is there a background process that interferes with USB / SD card drivers?  Anyone else noticed this behavior.

    Rgds Frank

    You can try this:

Go into Device Manager, and then double-click the entry for your SD card reader. Assuming that he has one, click on the power management tab, and uncheck the box 'allow the PC turns off... ». Now, do the same thing in Manager of devices for all your USB root hubs.

Then go to the options screen to win 10 powers, click on advanced settings and turn off hybrid sleep. Reboot and see if that helps.

  • XPS 8700 Windows 7 64 card reader disappears!

Often ill put a SD or CF card into the internal card reader and it disappears from my computer and Device Manager.  No just went wrong! The only way to recover is system sleep and power cord to "unplug". Works for 2 or 3 times and the same thing happens. Dell tried a few software and settings of bugs but that did not work. Then the sent me a new media card reader but same thing happens. Now, they want to replace motherboard and power supply, but I doubt that a is too. Any help or ideas would be great.

Yes, a very common problem with my XPS 8700. Has been through a lot of readers of cards, motherboards, etc.

    (1) make sure you eject the card reader in the computer drives; the old 'My Computer'. Yes, of course, it's elementary, but several times I just grabbed the first card reader. It applies to remove it from your camera. Don't forget that the camera is turned off before removing.

    2) the "fix"

It can be irritating, but it you have to remove the side panel and pull the wire connecting the card reader to the motherboard to the wide where it attaches to the motherboard. Then just reconnect and the card reader drives will reappear.

Technically you should do with the machine power off and unplugged power cord, but I use one of these long slender beak pliers to reach in and get a firm grip on the connector. Just a quick pull and a quick replacement. I would look at the readers to return what they have always done for me. I don't know if it is successful with the machine off. You must be very spastic to not be able to disconnect and reconnect the small connector without touching anything else. A light is useful depending on the ambient light.

Personally, my CPU is just off the right side of my office, so I always leave the left in Panel enough air flow, but it is certainly easy enough to remove.

It is difficult to say how long it will last. Finally, it will fail again may 20 all-purpose or more, but I keep the needle forceps nearby. A 2 minute job.

    Good luck!

  • XPS 8300 & Windows 10 - NIC & Intel RST problems

A day I watching a notification in the taskbar bar saying my I found was on my way to a free update of Windows 10 in Win 7.  Later, I came to realize that Windows was making changes under the hood.

Change of .NET Framework has erupted following Microsoft Expression Web and Capture One Pro. After the upgrade they automagically work once again. Stop this process needed to back up the PC and antics with windows update in order to block the update which starts the upgrade to Win10.

I do not any notice, pushed me into running on this PC, Dell services, but anyway I'm here because I left the proceeding upgrade.

Uh oh. Problems. Crashing LAN (WAN is fine) and Intel RST service does not, but IAstorDataSvc consumes 15% cpu. I went to Dell and they recommend does not update this machine.

I tried to roll back the driver for the CARD without success and I ordered a card adapter to fit. I tried to launch the Intel chipset update utility, but he could not find the compatible devices.

My more immediate concern is this PC is running RAID 0 and Intel RST service does not work properly. My understanding is that there is no cancellation of the RAID 0 unless you are ready to reinstall the operating system.

What are my options? Can I disable the startup of Intel services associated with this process? Is there another way to update the RST services that work with my XPS8300? Another option, I don't think?

    TIA,

    RandyN

  • Smart response caching: HARD + SSD on Inspiron 15R drive SE, mSATA value SRT, still no button "Accelerate."

    Hello

This is probably a common problem that has been explained earlier, but I cannot find an answer here-I found describing almost the same question, but still not the same as the son.

So I have a cool Inspiron 15R SE with pre-installed Windows 8, 1 to HDD and SSD 32 GB on mSATA included for caching purposes. The problem is that, as far as I can see, without acceleration/cache that really happens with my SSD as just another drive.

In the BIOS my mSATA operation is set to 'Intel Smart Response technology' which seems to be a good option for caching. Looks like on this screenshot I took from another thread, the yellow highlighted option is selected in my system:

But when I boot in Windows 8 and run the Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology, I don't see "Accélération" button / tab - as if my drive is not eligible or is in the wrong mode. This is the screenshot of my Intel utility for you to see there is no option to activate the cache:

If it's relevant, my SSD drive appears in my disk management console and is also available as a regular drive in Explorer and other files with a drive letter assigned managers (guess which indicates the acceleration is not in use).

There is also a Hibernate (8 GB) on this disk partition, but there is still enough for caching (mandatory min 16 GB, 20 GB left) free space. Should I try to disable hibernation? My hiberfil.sys file is on the HARD drive so that probably won't help. Here is a screenshot of another utility pre-installed from Intel, Intel Quick Start Technology Manager, if this might be relevant:

Any ideas are much appreciated, I've been strongly trying this additional disc and it was actually the main reason for me to choose this particular laptop model. It's a shame, I can't use it for some reason any.

    Thank you very much!

I found the answer. To activate the acceleration must be no. PARTITIONS on the SSD drive even if it is still not enough allocated space.

If the partition of QuickStart technology, with that my laptop came prevented Rapid Storage to accelerate.

After I deleted all partitions on the disk, it worked.

If you still need the partition of quick start or for other purposes, you can specify less space for acceleration during the installation and create your partition later.

  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology made disappear from HARD drive

Recently my laptop stopped windows startup. When I turned it on, Intel Rapid Storage Technology 12.7.0.1936 technology window appeared and said that one of my SSD volume is off and asked me to press CTRL + I to access the Configuration utility. When I pressed on that, I could only select Reset Disks to Non-RAID option. So I chose, but windows still didn't start with a Operation System not found message.

So I changed the following settings in the BIOS:

    • SATA Operation: AHCI (instead of Intel Smart Response Technology)
    • Technology Intel Quick Start: People with mobility reduced (and not active)
    • List start option: Legacy (instead of UEFI)

Then I was able to start windows setup from usb. Windows repair did not help, I had The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again. message. So I just temporary installed windows on a SSD (during the installation of my disc drive 500 GB HARD is not visible).

I even booted ubuntu live USB, and it didn't detect my HARD disk drive.

My HARD drive is not visible in the BIOS. It shows Fixed HDD: None .

    Plug my laptop:

    • Dell Inspiron 14 7000 series 7437
    • Intel Core i5-4210U CPU @ 1.7 GHz
    • mSata device LITEONIT LMS-32L6M m-(S1) 32GB
    • Windows 8.1

Someone know any tool or approach how to unlock my RST HARD drive and make it visible again?

The drive does not have (the first symptoms you describe were your imminent disk failure warning) and must be replaced.

  • Dell XPS 8700 - How to install Windows XP on it

    Hello

I have read on this forum that it was possible to install Win XP on XPS 8500 and wanted Trailblazers thanks!

I was wondering if someone has even tried to install XP on the 8700?

I should receive my XPS 8700 with Win 7 Premium on this topic next week?

I then unplug the original HD and try to install XP on one of my free SATA 3 SSD.

Also, very probably I will change the video card for another model with a compatible driver that I used for a few years in another i7 PC (I have a spare card).

The early problem would be drivers, in particular drivers Ethernet/LAN

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Please note that I prefer (in spite of having a legal copy for Win 7 and Win 8 Pro lying around) Win XP for my typical usage.* *.

    Thank you

    I got the PC.

Step 1: Unit under test and recovery CD made.

Step 2: BIOS Mode changed SATA AHCI RAID Mode changed.

Step 3: Air conditioner stops. HARD drive disconnected original. SSD connected instead.

Step 4: Windows XP is installed from the CDROM. PC works fine, super fast.

Step 5: Realtek Ethernet controller installed (see the link above, thanks again Sandeep! :-).) Surf the Internet, it is now possible and, therefore, all the rest. The most important step accomplished :-).

Step 6: Install my own ATI video card and drivers Realtek Audio & HDMI. Playing music and video on an HDTV in Mode Extended accomplished!

I got 5 points at issue in Device Manager after installing Win XP.

3 of them have been solved by various software to Intel.

2 of those remaining are related to Wireless & Bluetooth.

This is the best I could do at the moment... :-)
