DEOs change to the political necessity of round robin to restart the ESX Server

Hi friends,

When set politics multi-path set to Round robin, is it necessary to restart the ESX Server?

Thank you.

No.... You should see that paths become active after you change the setting.

    Hello friends,

I have a small queries if you change the root on Esx server password there will be an impact on virtual infrastructure if it so please explain what effect might be on OS comments and please let me know how to change the password if it is not an impact. the Esx version is 3.5...

    Thank you

Unless you use any application that connects to the host by using the credentials of the root, there should be no problem with changing the root password. Virtual Center uses its own (vpxuser) user to access the host.

  • displacement of the configurations of lab manager between the ESX server host computers / data warehouses

    Hello

Is it possible to move configurations of lab manager between the ESX server host computers / data warehouses? I don't see an option in the library & gt; Clone library. Thank you!

  • VMDK file unreadable after migration of VM & update of the ESX Server

Last night we have updated the ESX servers here and in the migration process machines from one node to the other (by placing a single node of the cluster in maintenance mode). During this migration, the VMs one has stopped running. When we finished the migration and had updated the ESX Server, we brought the system to the top and tried to start this virtual machine.

First, we looked in the directory of the virtual machine and saw that the VMDK file has a different name, with - dish at the end (before hard). We have renamed the file, removing the - flat extension, and this is where we saw these messages. ESX Server always gbehaved as if the file did not exist or was unreadable. • How to locate the fiber channel SAN disks on the ESX Server

    Hi all

    Please help on this

How to find and configure the fiber channel SAN disks on the ESX Server

    Concerning

    Vijay

Assuming that you have configured LUNS on your storage space itself you will need to ensure that the ID in the world of fiber HBA on the host ESX (you can see them registered against fiber HBA under storage adapters, WWID) are configured on the switch of fiber access (read and write).

In the VI Client connected to your ESX host, select the storage adapters tab and highlight the Fibre HBA. Right-click and select Rescan. If you have correctly configured the SAN and the Fibre switch, then the LUNS now appear under the fiber HBA. Go to storage and select Add storage. Follow the wizard through to add LUNS and VMFS format. Do this for each ESX host that you want to see the LUNS.

  • Adding a new NETWORK adapter to the ESX Server

I have an ESX 3.5 server that has two NIC onboard.  I decided that I will join the ESX Server to the SAN, so I need these two NICS for iSCSI.  I'm going to install a NETWORK card in the PCI - X slot.  Unfortunately, without GUI, I'm confused as to how it will work.  Can someone give me some advice on how to add a new NETWORK card?  I checked esxcfg and I don't know if that's what I'm trying to use.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

In the VI client, you should be able to go on the tab network management under configuration see the NIC it to add them to the correct vSwitch.

  • PowerCLI, Multipathing change: fixed RDM and VMFS of Round Robin

With the new improvements in vSphere native mulit pathing (NMP) in 5.1, I tried to change my LUN to use repetition alternated according to EMC with my flare VNX practices code.

However, I also have MSCS clusters that don't support a fixed mode according to the http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1037959.

Later, I want to get all my VMFS volumes and set them to Round Robin and let all of my RDMs set to fixed.

I'm hoping to dynamically so that I can leave it with the admin here to run whenever he wants, but I'm fighting to achieve.

    What I've tried so far.

I can get all my LUNS with these commands.

    $esxcli= Get-EsxCli

    $Allmyluns = Get - esxcli.storage.nmp.device.list () | Where {$_ .device - like 'naa.*'}

I can get all my RDM with this command

    $RDMS = get - vm | Get-hard drive | where {$_.} SCSIcanonicalname - like 'naa.* ' | Select SCSIcanonicalname

I can put the method once I have the storage in this way

    $esxcli= Get-EsxCli

    Foreach ($lun in $allmyluns({

    $esxcli.nmp.device.setpolicy($null, $_.Name,"VMW_PSP_RR")

    }

I have also thought about writing a csv or text file with the first command and trying to remove the entries with the second command but that is a bit past me, and I may be trying to over-complicate things unnecessarily.

But what I can’t do is work out how to get a list whenever I want that has all the VMFS LUNS but not any of the RDM LUNS. So I can dynamically feed this into a script which updates VMFS pathing to Round Robin.

Any help, input or ideas would be greatly appreciated

This should help you all VMFS LUNS.

  • Specification of disk for the ESX Server

I set up a new ESX Server.  Internal drives will be used for ESX - no data warehouses.  Complete 7.2 K rpm SATA drives (RAID-1), or is there an advantage to walk up to the 15 K RPM SAS drives?

ESXi does not fast disks (or any disk at all). You can even install ESXi on a USB stick or SD card. Once loaded, ESXi running in memory and only to rewrite the disk configuration changes.

  • License available when one of the ESX Server is in maintenance mode

The available license count changes if ESX Server is added in maintenance mode? I think that the answer is Yes, but I want to be sure of it. Unfortunately I can't test this in my environment.

I have ESX 3.5 update 5 and VC upadate 6

    Thank you

I just tested it, and the number of licenses available for my 3.5 servers has not changed after that one has been placed in maintenance mode.  I wouldn't really expect him if she is always powered, but unfortunately I can't supply a stop for the moment.

  • How to control vmotion license to the ESX Server

I have 5 servers ESX 3.5 U3 in my vCenter.  Two are using host license and three are in a cluster and using the server license assigned by my license server, that runs on vCenter.  However, my ESX servers two stand alone using the host license receive a license of vmotion by my license server and my ESX servers in my cluster but cannot get a license of vmotion because their attributed to the wrong ESX Server.

How can I get the vmotion license released by the ESX servers who don't need and make it available on my ESX Server who need?  My three ESX servers in cluster shared storage for vmotion and don't have my two stand alone ESX servers.

I tried simple things, like the disconnection of servers and ESX servers in reconnection vCenter, re-reading of license files, restart the license server, etc..  license and vCenter server is 2.5 U4.

    Thanks in advance.  Jim

go to the configuration tab and click Networking, you have a Port VMkernel configuration?  If so, edit click the vSwitch properties, change your VMkernel port settings and uncheck the box that says VMotion: enabled.

  • Copy the VM on the ESX server @ remote site

Need a virtual machine to copy to an ESX Server at a remote site. The remote site is on a WAN to 12 MB link.

What would be the best way to get a copy of the virtual machine on the remote site?

The virtual machine on the remote site is using local storage in its VMFS data store.

    Would this work.

    Orginal VM clone

    Unregister the Clone

Copy all the files of the virtual machine to USB using FastSCP

Download files of the virtual machine to the local VMFS data store

Right-click VMX and click on add to the inventory

    Am I missing measures?

If bandwidth is a problem, and your VMDK is thick provisioning, you can use vmware converter to convert format of vmware workstation in the USB, Converter it will be thin. and then reupload again via the converter when you're there. It could save you a few upload and download times.

  • Problem connecting to the ESX Server in the Windows domain controller workstation

    Nice day

I'm trying to set up a lab for the test server ESX 4 on VMware Workstation 7.1.1 running in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

    Basic configuration is such;

Windows 2008 R2 AD domain controller

    IP: 192.168.9.103

    SM: 255.255.255.0

    DG: 192.168.9.1

    ESX1 host

    IP: 192.168.9.109

    SM: 255.255.255.0

    DG: 192.168.9.1

Both are configured with Bridged networking in my computer. I can ping the system Windows 2008 in my Ubuntu system, but cannot ping the ESX 4 server.  I can ping the DG of the Windows 2008 system, but cannot ping the DG of ESX4 system. I ping the ESX4 server by IP address and name for itself. I added a DNS entry in Windows 2008 for the server, ESX4. I can't ping the Windows Server 2008 of ESX4 host.

There is an entry in/etc/hosts on the ESX host to IP address and the name of the ESX host. If I look at/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-vwif0 I see doing a show at the 192.168.9.255, IPADDR 192.168.9.109 in sysconfig there is an entry for the ESX host name thats right, pointing to the front door of 192.168.9.1 using GATEWAYDEV = vswif0, n - route shows 192.168.9.1 as the UG.

All tests seem to indicate a problem with the default gateway that is used to communicate between these 2 VM.

If someone could please provide suggestions as to where I could look, I would appreciate it.

    Kind regards

    powderskier

AFAIK, you must enable Supreme mode for the virtual ESX using Linux as a host.

  • Copy VM on the esx server.

    Hi all

I just did a virtualized copy of a server I am running and it saved on my local computer. Is it possible using vSphere to copy the virtual machine from my local computer to the ESXi Server? Or what I need to do through other means?

    Hello

You can use VMware Converter to import you VM on the local disk or even convert and import into your physical server directly VMware vSphere.

It depends on what you did and what you are currently using.

If you have a single server of VMware ESXi and one or several VM to a local disk, you can use VMware Converter.

I myself prefer to use vCenter Converter (built-in) or VMware Converter to import my physical server in my virtual space.

If you can get more information, maybe I or anyone else can help you more.

  • Copy Virtual Machine on the ESX Server windows file server (files)

I made a copy of a computer virtual with Vmware converter and it is sitting on the windows file server, is there a way to copy the files to the server, ESX4?  Something like a copy and paste?

    Thanks in advance!

Simply right click on the data store you want to place the files on (Summary tab when selecting one of the hosts connected to this data store), select "Browse the data store" and then use the button "transfer files to this data store. You can use it to download a folder or file from a target, that you access from your system. It might make things easier if you create a folder in the store of data first, and then download the files one at a time. Make sure that the virtual machine is turned off when you do.

Another option might be to vMotion/migrate it from current storage to a data store in the ESX environment. I did not the same type of migration before, it will or will not be, works correctly. I moved files VM from a source, see my workstation, up to a data store that the ESXi host has a connection to before without problem (with the virtual machine powered off course).
