Design of a Table of contents

It is an area that I think needs to be expanded. I CS5.5 and there are very few options when you design a Table of contents. Oh, it looks like I want it, but I get so close. Here's what I'm looking for, and maybe you can help me find the right code.

Title__________________________________1-1

Next Title___1-2

Third Title___1-3

I have no - stand-alone documents (each, a "chapter" separate an entire document). What I've been able to accomplish so far, is that I have page numbers to line up on the right side, but I can not get this chapter '-1' or '-2' number or the line underscore that goes from the end of the title of the page to the page number. I saw notes like this in many documents, then it cannot be otherwise obscure that they would not add this option in this program. I must be missing something.

Thank you

Kyle

Lets start with the numbers. How th number of echapter he made on document pages? is this a section prefix is entered in the numbering & Section, dialog box or something else? A section in the page number prefix must find its place in the table of contents without doing anything special at all.

Now for the underline. Any character can be pointed out. Just select it and go to the Options to highlight and turn on. In this case what you're trying to do, is to apply this emphasis of all the tabs and there are actually two ways to do this automatically, but allows you to create a character style that is nothing more than turning on underscore and by assigning a weight, type of line and offset that require it. You can use a solid line, dash, dotted, etc to this custom underscore which means you can get virtually any look you want.

The first method is to simply apply the style of the tab in the dialog Table of contents - you have the opprotunity to apply a character style to what you have entered in the field "between entry and number" by choosing a style in the next field to the right (you must have list them additional options). However, this will push this underscore tight against the text on both ends, and I like a bit of respite, so I use the second method.

In my method you add space on each side of your tab (thin space, space sixth, your choice) in the field and do not apply a style it. Instead, create a paragraph style for the list (which you should do anyway), and then add a style nested like this: none up to 1 tab (or right hanging, if you used that) character, your new style of underlining through 1 character. This leaves the spaces on each side without underlining and list text and numbers. You can, of course, add another style of character at the end to change the numbers, too, if you wish, for example bold or italic. I use this method to make forms for printing with lines where people need to write something. The legs of setting allows you to adjust the length of the lines.

    Can anyone help please?

I have a problem with the creation of table of contents and change the order of the paragraph styles. For example, in the document, I have the title and the author defined as style. I want the author to come first, followed by the title with a page number in the table of contents. I get almost work, but page numbers are disabled.

    Thank you

In the table of contents, you have two options for the order, pages or alphabetical order. If you use the command page, ID goes to the things on the list in the order that he finds them on the page, and he starts the search in the upper left corner and works down before moving to the right.

You may be able to solve your problem ensuring that the name of the author is in a framework that extends to the left that part of the chapter title. A screenshot of the page in question would be a big help, with the contours of the block and the display invisible characters. Use the camera icon on the edit page of the Web site to integrate the image.

  • Table of contents by making a 'book' (.indb)

    Hi people,

I have a question about the table of contents when creating a 'book' (.indb).

    Firstly a bit of background.

I have a bunch of documents 2-3 pages (approximately 100 documents) that I need to be able to organize themselves into a book easily with the file > new > book... option. It's super easy, except for one thing, I can't get the table of contents to accuse the other documents in the book. It is just blank. The table of contents are set up very well and works if I import the pages of a document in another voluminous document but it does not work in the method 'Book'. I need to have people non-designer with virtually no training that often. These people will have to reorganize modular short documents fairly regularly, so I hope to stick with the 'book' method instead of having people mess with pages (to reduce the risk of change the drawings).

Someone has a quick fix or know an existing tutorial? If this isn't the case, I would appreciate other assistance you can offer.

    Thank you

  • Question of FrameMaker 10 Table of contents

I did the updates of my manual, saved the book and now my TOC displays as red text with lines of text (as the changes).  The table of contents has duplicated with this red/lines of text 8 times (now the 34P) and the bottom of the page shows the table of normal contents. I can't understand how to solve this problem. If anyone can help?

    Well, not knowing whether or not it is enabled by design, we'll play it safe that we test this;

    • Save and close all files in the book window
    • In the book window > view > track text edits > Final glimpse
    • The book was updated

If is enabled, we should be safe and assume it is activated on purpose, and you must review each chapter, accept or reject the changes. When assigning the Final Preview view, the changes are always followed, but they should is no longer showing.

I'm about to step in the class, and maybe someone else can pick up this thread. If the issue is not the track text changes, the next thing I would like to Explorer are conditional text settings.

  • Adobe Captivate 7 - How to create a custom without the function table of contents table of contents?

    Hello

I want to create a table of contents in my E-Learning-project because the automatically generated TOC of Adobe Captivate 7 includes all the features I need to check for example chapters which are the groups in the film strip.

I use master slides in my project.
The table of contents, I need must be designed and programmed as follows:

    1 intro / title slides

    9 chapters

The progress of the work - 3 status - all chapters should be moved by symbols in the table of contents

Symbol 1: chapter has not yet begun (just an empty box)

Side 2: chapter is work in progress (a square with a green triangle inside)
Side 3: chapter is finished that means that all of the slides in this chapter are read (the square is filled with a green square)

All the chapters and Points to the table of contents must be clickable (links) maybe with a mouse over effect (change in colour of mouse) and should start to the first slide of this chapter.

The chapter which is open must be written in bold with one blue color, others who are not open to be written in the normal font with a black color

I think it's a little complex, but solutionable.

I think I need to create three symbols of the buttons form, advanced actions that tend to fade and fade out named symbols.

Is there someone who can describe the process of creation? Where should I place all the functions, actions and so on? On the slide master?

    Thank you for the answers!

The only thing I can say about it is that I build it in Flash, so it could be dynamic and reusable.

If you take the time to build a PC inside it only works for one project. Certainly you would have a base to work from, but for a another edition project wouldn't be fun.

If you need HTML5, I think it would be much more difficult to build a dynamic table of contents.

  • Table of contents an angle

I recently had a style guide for the repro and the designer made the (typical) the framework of the summary tilted 10 degrees.

As a matter of course, I convert long documents to use paragraph and character styles and then re - generate the table of contents to make it clickable in the final PDF. On this document in particular and subsequently in the trials, he didn't like the frame of the table of contents is at 10 degrees. If I clicked to go to page 5, he would jump to page 6. So actually, I clicked on the number of page 5 (the frame is tilted is further to the right) go to page 5, but by clicking on the description of the content of the box on the left hand side would take me on page 6. So it's sort of treat lines as if they were straight.

It is certainly a bug. Others enjoy this please? I can't straighten the image because it is a guide of artistic style and was designed to look like a post-it note.

    Using InDesign CC 9.3

    Thanks much for any help.

I think that's not a bug. The problem is that the URL of a PDF file is not in a rectangle, polygon formed URLs are not possible. Turning OCD so will cause problems with the URL wrapper rectangles, because these cannot be turned as the text can. This is a limitation of the PDF standard, not a bug in InDesign.

  • How to insert the table of contents within a table

Using FrameMaker 12, I create a table of contents within a table. This means, 1st column contains the number of paragraphs, the 2nd column of the text of the paragraphs, the 3rd column the page numbers. Of course, each item must fill each cell of the table. I downloaded an example.

    TOC special format.jpg

Create a table of contents in normal conditions and use tabs as separators between the page number and section number, <$paratext>.

Then use convert FM to the usefulness of the table to convert the table of contents for a table using the table design appropriate to your catalog.

It's a manual, and you will have to redo this each time that you update the table, but it should only take a few clicks to do. Automate the steps with a script would make it less painful.

  • A vertical section only - DPS Table of contents?

I'm fairly certain that I'll answer my own question here, but here's my situation:

Customer wants to only a single article, which will be about 60 pages. They do not want users to have to right or left, which means that they want it is a long, vertical section.

Now, as I understand it, the table of contents is built on a base by article, which means that I have to add new items and users must drag right or left to scroll through each. If I add five items, it would add five items to the table of contents.

Anyway to add the table of contents (DPS user interface table of contents when you tap once to show) if I have just one long article.

I can build a Table of contents page and just do the buttons to view each section below and then add an overall table of the button content to the design of page to return to the table of contents above.

    Thoughts?

There is no way to add default TOC entries without having to real articles of the folio. If you have only one article, you'll have only a table of contents.

You could certainly make a page called TOC and then make the buttons to go up and down this page, but it's a really weird user experience

  • Why the names of my chapters are not displayed in the table of contents?

Hello. I use Indesign & DPS simple editing to make an application. In Indesign, I created several different documents that I used to make items that I put together in a Folio.  I saw it using the tool preview Adobe & on the iPad using Adobe Content Viewer. When I select the button table of contents I see thumbnail screenshots of the first page of each chapter, but no text chapter name.  For each of the documents that I used to make items that I named them after the chapter they represent, which is what I thought each chapter name defined.

The strange thing is that before I did a couple of test folios and they do not have the name of chapter text. So what can I do to display the chapter name in the table of contents?

Also, is there a way to change change the thumbnail used by the table of contents?

    Thank you

The answer to both questions is in the Article Properties dialog box. Select the item in the Folio Builder Panel and choose Properties from the context menu. Specify the name of the chapter of "Title" - which is probably empty now. (There is a difference between an article name and a title of the article. The name is used for internal purposes, such as the binding, and the title appears in the application).

At the bottom of this dialog box, you see a preview of the Table of contents. Click the folder icon and specify a PNG of 70 x 70 that you design.

  • Spacing of table of contents

Is there a way to adjust, to increase, the minimum spacing between a table of contents entry and its page number for paragraphs of the single line? I know that I can insert nonbreaking spaces in long paragraphs, but if a paragraph fits on one line, it does not help.

The screenshot below shows an entry on the first line which is too close to the page number. The second line is the way I want it to look, but I have to do a return forced to implement. Of couse, when I re - generate the table of contents the forced return disappears, so I hope that there is another technique.

If editing the frame.ini file would control the spacing, how woiuld that be implemented?

I swap this in the forum script in the case where there is a way to script it.

    Untitled-1.gif

If anyone can tell me if this is NOT possible, I understand that too (so that I don't know is not to keep trying to think of workarounds).

    Jay,

The method I use is not obvious but work because of how FrameMaker seems to work.

For EACH paragraph format used in your table of contents, those ending in KNOCK, open the paragraph Designer. One of the tabs (do not remember which) has a place to specify the spacing settings. There are three boxes: minimum, optimum, and maximum. The minimum is generally defined 75%, the optimum 100% and up to 125%. Add 100, or 200 or 300% for the minimum AND maximum, BUT NOT optimum, which is set at 100%. For example, the minimum would be 175%, the OPTIMA 100% and the maximum of 225 percent. Click Refresh all. I do this in the template file and then import the paragraph formats in all the files in your book. Then update the book.

I think FrameMaker tests to adjust the spacing using minimum and maximum, determines where the line break and then sets the optimum spacing of 100%. The result is a line break shortly before the end of the line. You can experiment. The more you add to minimum and maximum, more space between the line break and the end of the line.

  • Generate the table of contents with chapter markers?

It has been a while since I had to install and create a table of contents for a long document of single file, but I'm sure that I created TOCs in this way in the past. Then, why the text in the Section markers will appear in the table of contents? It is even possible to generate a table of contents that contains text of article marker?

I use InDesign CS5 in Windows. I have a file single document I'm trying to generate a table of contents for. I designed a 16-page manual in an inDesign file that includes a cover page, table of contents page and seven "chapters."

I created a separate section for each 'chapter' and used Chapter markers in the top of the page master for chapter names. It's something I did in the past of syntactically long documents containing several chapters.

I put the first page of each 'chapter' as a new Section on the Pages panel. In numbering and Section Options for each page, I checked the Section getting started, Automatic Page numbering, the Style of Page numbering: 1,2,3,4... and in Section marker: I put the name of 'chapter' in the text box.

    InDesign_Pages_NumberingSectionOptions.jpg

I've set up paragraph and character Styles and has used throughout my document. When I put in place the table of contents I created everything correctly, including a heading style that I used for all the sub lines in my file and my style of Section marker for chapter names.

    InDesign_TOC.jpg

When I insert the table of contents, generate headers sub with their page numbers, but the titles of the chapters which are chapter markers do not generate. Am I missing something or is it still possible to enter the text of chapter markers in a table of contents? I'm sure that he's worked in the past. Can anyone offer a solution for this?

    Thank you

    Kat

Looks like the markers section present only in the table of contents if they are on a document page. Try manually to the substitution of the frame.

  • FM10 cannot generate the table of contents with main points

    Hello world

I've read some useful discussions here on this issue but I still can not to be able to solve this problem of main points for my OCD.

I already assured that the reference for all my image in my book files have the same reference table of contents of the page entry page. When I generate my OCD the main points are missing!

I then, open the reference page for the TOC file and paste in the same entries of table of contents of my other image files and then update the book to regenerate the table of contents.

Also, this does not solve the problem.

Any help to fix this would be really appreciated!

Here are some screenshots of my reference page for my OCD (below). I have ensured that this section is present for all of the image files from my book too (in their sections of the reference page for the table of contents).

  • FM 10 Table of contents wraps ok except the page number.

FM 10 Table of contents wraps ok unless the text makes just the end of the page goes at the beginning of the next line page number. If the text is longer, the text fits very well and passes right justified page number as it should.  What Miss me?

    FM10TOCPM.png

    Glenn,

I have developed a fix for this. It has been published several times in this forum, the search engine does not work, so I can't. I'll try to repeat it as much as I can remember.

You need to redefine your TOC paragraph tags. In the paragraph Designer, select a tag table of contents. Select the Advanced tab. In the section on the wee, the Minimum value 275%, Maximum of 375% and Optimum 100%; CLEAR (uncheck) allow automatic tracking. Click Refresh all.

REPEAT the above for each TOC paragraph tag.

    Then update your address.

Normally, must be less than the Optimum, which should be less than Maximum. I have no idea what FrameMaker is no, but it seems trying to set between minimum and maximum word spacing; This allows to determine where the line breaks. Sets optimal spacing, which is 100%. The result is a line break characters to the left of the edge of the image. If the above settings do not enough give you pause, add 100% at a minimum and maximum, but NOT optimal; Optimum must always be 100%. If the break is too heavy, attempts to subtract 100% of the minimum and maximum.

By programming your tags to TOC paragraph with these changes, the line break is automatic.

    Hope this helps,

    Van

  • Problem with space in Table of contents

In my table of contents, one and only one of my page numers goes all the way to the right. I've attached a screen to show what I mean. The first number, the number "1" is stuck left a few points. When I hit space it jumps to the next line and I am not able to do all the way to the right as the other numbers. I checked the character and paragraph styles and can't find anything off the coast.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?toc.png

Like me this is the way the font is designed.  Can you put one end of one of the other lines and see if it looks the same?  If it isn't do an another screenshot with turned on hidden characters, you can go Type > show hidden characters or Alt + Ctrl + I.
