Table of contents by making a 'book' (.indb)

Hi people,

I have a question about the table of contents when creating a 'book' (.indb).

Firstly a bit of background.

I have a bunch of documents 2-3 pages (approximately 100 documents) that I need to be able to organize themselves into a book easily with the file > new > book... option. It's super easy, except for one thing, I can't get the table of contents to accuse the other documents in the book. It is just blank. The table of contents are set up very well and works if I import the pages of a document in another voluminous document but it does not work in the method 'Book'. I need to have people non-designer with virtually no training that often. These people will have to reorganize modular short documents fairly regularly, so I hope to stick with the 'book' method instead of having people mess with pages (to reduce the risk of change the drawings).

Someone has a quick fix or know an existing tutorial? If this isn't the case, I would appreciate other assistance you can offer.

Thank you

Philippe

You checked the box (after displaying more Options) to include book Documents?

    I can get rid of them by special> Delete page. But I never had to do before the 2015 version. I tried with older files generated in frame 10. same thing. If someone has encountered this?

    Master Pages are part of each document.

    You can import master pages from another document (i.e. a ' model') in your current document using the file > import > Formats... option and select layout from the list (deselect all others).

    If you have changed the current TOC for the problem of the Page Master on the left, then simply save the file and use the Edit > update book option for that OCD regenerated by using the new page templates.

  • Table of contents chapter-level and book

    I have a book that is a reference book which becomes large enough, over 1 k pages. For clarity, I'll call you every file INDD support a 'chapter '. What I would like is to have a table of contents of the book-level which has just the chapter titles and their page indicated from the start numbers then each chapter table of contents chapter-level that goes into the details of the level of the page. Do all this from the outset makes for a massive TOC. I want my readers to be able to access a chapter and then discern the pages they need there.

    The table of contents to the book level is quite easy. It's the chapters that give me bad.

    The only way I was able to do this is to generate the detailed table of contents and then copy/paste the tips in each chapter. As you can imagine this is tedious and error-prone.

    Is it possible to have the table of contents chapter-level generated automatically, but limited only to pages in the current INDD file?

    My apologies if this was asked before. Have read many articles here, but have not found the answer, I am looking. Looking.

    InDesign CC 2015.2 on Win10.

    You can create a table of contents for each chapter. For example:

    • Opened Chapter 1
    • Add a new page 1 (or more if necessary.)
    • On the 1st page again, choose page layout > Table of contents
    • Add paragraph Styles
    • Uncheck include book Documents to only pick up the styles in this file

    Repeat for each chapter.

  • I'm looking to add a button to reset the table of contents (collapse of all books)

    We use IE 8 and HR 10

    I looked everywhere for existing javascript that would do this, but I'm not. Is this something that someone else has already done? I'm not a person of script.

    Thank you!

    Laura

    Well, see if it works.

    Rather than use the link option, click the option for JavaScript.

    Type the following code in the OnClick field:

    parent. Location ='http://www.desiredsite.com/News_Feed.htm'

    Dismiss all dialogs, regenerate and test.

  • RoboHelp 10 - is possible to change the icon of the TOC so that a 'book' in the table of contents. See the attached screen shot.

    In my current project for help, I have a set of topics that are specific to the use of our product in a country.  I want to change the table of contents of the specific book icon without changing all icons 'purple book '.

    Thank you.

    Hello

    Risk can be achieved, but if there is, it will have to be changed to code JavaScript and some "behind the scenes" files You would also be painted in the corner of having to do the same changes every time you generate the output.

    If anyone knows how to get there, it will be Willam. It will perhaps be pop and Advisor.

  • Problem with the table of contents pages and books

    I use 8 HR and generate Webhelp.

    I created a project and had to change a few pages of table of contents and create TOC books instead. I deleted the pages and added books, with the same name. HR, it looks fine, but when I generate the table of contents for the page instead of the book. I tried to clear my cache in Internet Explorer, and the deletion of the page again. Still no help. I rebooted and even rebooted and still have the same thing. Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

    Thank you.

    Indeed if a book has nothing in it, it will not appear in the table of contents. When you think about it, it is very logical. Why would you want a book to appear if nothing was inside?

  • Is it possible to customize the sensitive presentation - sequence of the table of contents, Index, tabs filter?

    Hello

    I use RoboHelp 2015 and reactive production layout, I need to rearrange these tabs. I want the tab of filtering of dynamic content to be displayed before the table of contents.

    Is it possible to re - sequence tab filters before tab table of contents by making some backend work in CSS or code?

    forum post.png

    Or the other way improved - if we select filters say - sales, then sales related subjects should be displayed (rather extended below - just like the expansion of text).

    Is it possible to customize the sensitive provision in this way?

    Thank you

    Christophe

    It is possible through the HTML code. In Notepad, open the file "Topic.slp". On line 35, you will see a list of links:

    You can cut and paste the link to get the correct order. The first tag appears on the left side. Please be sure to cut and paste the entire link ''.

  • Table of contents and PDF bookmarks

    InDesign CC October 2015

    Windows 8.1

    I have created a table of contents, all styles, it seems good. The next step is to have the bookmarks actually export to a PDF file.

    I chose the option "create PDF bookmarks"; all created bookmarks in the Bookmarks panel. Very well. However, when I create a PDF of the table of contents or the full book, no bookmarks appear.

    What Miss me?

    The part that I missed was that I unchecked the option 'hyperlink '. When the "Bookmarks" option is selected, "Hyperlinks" is also. I did not all hyperlinks in my book so I disabled it. Bad plan.

    After you have enabled the 'Bookmarks' and 'Links', selection of bookmark in the document PDF now brings me to the referenced page.

  • Table of contents do not synchronize

    I have a big file from WebHelp containing 775 topics inside. Most of them are descriptions of the fields. In the table of contents, I have a book called Fields - A to Z. When I click on one of the fields that begin with a letter in the alphabet (for example, M), the table of contents do not jump at this place. Instead, it jumps to the top of the book (in A). In my WebHelp settings for generating the file, I have configured to automatically synchronize the table of contents. I don't have this problem with my other (smaller) WebHelp files.

    Has anyone encountered this problem?

    Welcome to the forum.

    Yes this appears regularly, and I think he was asked last week. See extract of 49 on my site. There is a solution if your users are limited to IE, but it breaks using in Firefox!

    In addition, the only solution is less likely in a book.

    Not really the desired solution, but I fear it is like that.

    Who better to disable automatic synchronization.

  • Update table of contents of the book pane

    I have at least eight .indd documents in a book, six of them contain a table of individual contents.

    Do you know a script available that I can run that will automatically update all TOCs? I don't want to manually open all documents in the book and click on layout-> Update Table of contents?

    My thread in the forum of origin Indesign: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6629166#6629166

    The script below will take time, but it will fulfill your wish.

    myBookFile = File.openDialog("Choose the BOOK File", "INDB:*.indb", false);
    app.open(File(myBookFile.fullName.toString()));
    var myBook = app.activeBook;

    for(var n=0; n < myBook.bookContents.length; n++)
    {
        app.open(File(myBook.bookContents[n].fullName.toString()));
        for (var i = 0; i < app.activeDocument.allPageItems.length; i++)
        {
            var myPageItem = document.allPageItems[i];
            if(myPageItem.getElements()[0].constructor.name == "TextFrame")
            {
                myPageItem.select();
                try{
                    app.scriptMenuActions.itemByID(71442).invoke();
                }catch(e){}
            }
        }
        app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.YES);
    }
    app.activeBook.close(SaveOptions.YES);

  • How to create a Table of contents of a book as opposed to a single document?

    I'm working on a book with several chapters. Each chapter is a separate document joined as well as the rest of the book in InDesign. I have a table of contents in each document, and the hyperlink works very well when the document is exported to PDF. However, I was unable to create a single comprehensive contents table on the front of the book before Chapter 1. I tried everything I know how to create a table of contents for a single document, but that does not work for me with so many documents in the book. Is there something I missed? I'd appreciate any help in this regard.

    In the Options section of the Table of contents dialog box, there is a checkbox: Include book of Documents.

    What is checked, he must analyze each document in a book for styles to be used in the creation of the table of contents.

  • Buttons previous as well as the next topic would work in a complete table of contents or only in a book?

    Hi all

    I have a project of webhelp with several books and browse sequences.  The previous buttons as well as the following topic seem to operate with a single book.  Is that how it is supposed to work?  And if so, is there a way to make it work for OCD together through all the books?  With the help of HR 2011.

    Thanks for any help.

    Diane

    Hello

    What you have to do is to create a large single sequence that runs through all of the topics in the table of contents. Exactly how do you this depends on your version of RoboHelp. For example, if you use the version 10 and earlier versions, choose the auto create option and enter 0 for the number of levels.

    If it is version 11 or 2015 Release, there is an interesting option provided.

  • Question about subjects, books and tables of contents

    I have a question about the subjects, books and tocs. I have a project that someone else created, and my task is to create a new topic and add it to the table of contents. I created the topic, but when I generate CHM project it does not appear in the table of contents. I tried to update the table of contents. What I think (I guess) could be the problem, is the 'links to the topics', when I see the links to the topics in other areas (old) they seem to have a link to the main book, but the new one is not mine. Could you help me? Thank you!!!

    It seems that you have a manual table of contents page, rather than using the table of contents of CHM.

    The toc.htm topic that you see in your list of topics is probably where you will need to add your new topic.

    If the table of contents was already populated when you inherited the project, I suspect the previous author was using it just to keep track of the topics they had added manually to the topic toc.htm - added the CHM topic in summary you did mark the column of the table of contents in the list of topics like '' Yes. '' then add to the toc.htm manual is not. Hope that makes sense.

    P.S. Just guess that it is installing what I can see in the screenshot. It is quite unusual, so I hope I'm right.

  • I can't get the page numbers in my table of contents to update when I update the book.

    I use Framemaker 11 and I have two tables of contents in my book: one in English and French. Each table of contents to links to various documents in the same book. The reference page for each table of contents is defined and properly displays the positions 1 and 2, I said that it appears, but numbers not updated when the contents of my document files change to another page. I checked the settings of conditional text in my document files; they are correct. When I update the book, I choose to update the numbers, all the cross-references, all text inserts, OLE links, generate a Table of contents, lists, and indexes. What I am doing wrong? Thank you.

    If they are not knocked down, then they are certainly not generated files. See the example in the help of FM11: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FrameMaker/11.0/Using/images/bk_hier_books.png

    The 'K' is a TOC file that FM recognizes a generated file.

    Because you have created your table of the contents of the French with the help of another structure of the book, you could import reference this TOC file in another file of FM (for example to create an inset text) in the main book you want. However, you need to make updates in two steps. First update the French book to revise the table of contents. Then update the main book to get the rest of the correct pages (and given that the table of french contents are imported by reference, FM always uses the most recent version).

  • FXL ePub book file doesn't generate table of contents

    The navigation of the table of contents in the iBook reader lists all pages of the fixed Indesign layout, any Option Export eBook, I chose, with the exception of no 'none '.Screenshot 2014-10-30 20.21.23.png

    Hello

    You will need to define it in the source document style of the book. Also please see if your table of contents works in single document itself to check the table of contents style is correctly set.
