  • Windows 7 cannot see my external hard drive, even if I don't use it on this computer!

I have 2 external hard drives, both worked well on Windows 7. Now, on the same computer, no change, they stopped from within the computer. Drivers fine and visible in the devices. all ideas

    Hello Gus,

Windows 7, having trouble finding external drives is not uncommon. I use Aomei Partition Wizard to get Windows to recognize the drive; Download here: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 .

Once installed simply click on the external drive, and then select Properties. Who should get the drive recognized by Windows. See if that solves the problem for you.

    Kind regards

  • I just had a new hard drive installed (with XP), and no matter where I set the resolution, everything seems to be stretched horizontally

I just had a new hard drive installed with XP, and no matter what I set the resolution to, everything now looks stretched horizontally.  I don't have this problem with the old hard drive containing XP

If you did a clean installation of XP, then you must install the hardware drivers for your components. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your PC, then download and install the latest Windows XP drivers for your model.

  • I can't find my external hard drive under 'Computer' but it appears in "Devices and printers" How can I access files on my external hard drive?

I can't find my external hard drive in "computer".

I just bougth a new HP computer running Windows 7.  I just copied a bunch of movie files, music and photo of my old Mac (OSX Leopard) on a Western Digital external hard drive.

I plugged the external drive in my HP via USB 2.0 on the front of the computer.  Windows recognizes the drive.  She appears in the Panel of external control/hardware and Sound/devices and printers as "HARD disk".

It does not appear in 'Computer' under 'devices with removable storage ".

I just want to get to my files so I can copy them to my new computer.  How to access my files on the external hard drive?  Why isn't he appear in 'computer '?

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.
    See you soon

  • External hard drive is recognized but cannot see the content

My external hard drive PX1393E - 2 32 is identified as removable media, if I connect it with my laptop. But there is no possibility of access. Size is shown as '0' and you can't see the content.

I work with Windows Vista Home Premium SP 1. I tried to use the hard drive with a second computer (also Vista): same problem. If I connect the hard drive with a laptop that works with XP, I can see and use all my data.

Drivers and the operating system are the last level.

    Does anyone know a solution?

(I ask forgiveness because of my bad English.)

    Hello

You can see the size of the HARD disk in disk management?

Normally the external HARD drive should also work on Vista if it works properly on your XP computer.
You use different cables? Maybe you should try other on Vista laptop.

In addition, I would recommend formatting the HARD drive again. It's maybe something s wrong with the structure of the partition.

  • Iomega external hard drive is attached but not found by printers & peripherals

I had an external hard drive Iomega two years and removed to add a printer.  When I reinstalled it the light is on, but it is not displayed during the backup or the devices of & printers.  I uninstalled and reinstalled but can not use it.

    Hello

Please contact the Microsoft Community Forums.

It looks like Iomega drive external is not detected in Windows 7. We will analyze and identify the cause of the problem.

Please answer a few questions to refine the question.

    1. what happens when you try to plug in the device?

    2. are you able to connect other USB devices to the computer?

    3. do you receive any error messages?

    4. What is the status of the device in disk management?

This may be caused by the following:

    • Your player does not have a drive letter assigned in disk management
    • The player can be disabled or offline
    • Your USB driver is maybe corrupted
    • Damaged registry keys may be the cause of problems with connection of a CD player or DVD toyour

I suggest you perform the steps described in the article and check out them.

  • external hard drive contains files, but the folder in lightroom is empty

I have all my photos on an external hard drive. Years 2006-2015 are only on the external hard drive, they are all organized by month and they all appear in the lightroom Library 5 very well.  2016 is on the internal hard drive of my mac (fine organized and functioning properly) and I also backed it up on the external hard drive. If I go to the finder, I see the 2016 files are on my external hard drive, but 2016 in the lightroom hard disk library is empty. I can't import on the external drive again because when I do that all the files are gray because they are already there on. Any ideas on how to get the files appear in the library?

If you follow the instructions of dj_paige, Lightroom will then see the photos on the EHD, but will no longer see the pictures on the internal drive.  -What are you trying to do?  I got the impression you want Lightroom to see pictures in both IHD and DHM.

  • CR.2 files from external hard drive won't open.  Said «you are not allowed to open the doc...» "But I can open the .psd of the same post HD files.

I connected an external hard drive that I used with my iMac in my new Macbook Pro.  Many of these images cr.2 will be not open.  I see the icon rather than the tile.  The message that appears indicates «you are not allowed to open the document...» CR2. "All of my .psd seem to be visible.  What should I do?  Thank you.

It seems that there is a problem with the files on the external hard drive, even the mac os is not able to copy the files from the external hard drive.

  • Cannot access an external hard drive lost, encrypted BitLocker recovery key and do not know where to enter the password to unlock it.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-Bit on a Sony Vaio. Worked great, seems awsome and rolls GOOS GOOS, for a new operating system. I decided to use the BitLocker feature that I wanted to use from Vista Ultimate, which was incredibly dificult unlike BitLocker in Windows 7, which is extremely simple to use. So simple in fact, I encrypted my external hard drive Verbatim 160 Gig where the original BACKUP files are with ALL my original documents, settings and files of the company are located. I haven't used a USB key, or don't have I recorded the RecoveryKey, I printed and completely loses it, I remember perfectly well the password I used. Problem is I have NOW, I can't ACCESS MY HARD DRIVE! When I try to access the hard drive it asked me not the password recovery key. Please help me, im in deep poopie. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

Hey thanks for the reply Kev, but I must say that I did and didn't. The new Windows 7 operating system has this feature built-in and it is much easier to use. So yes I did it, but I made using windows 7 have where, instead of download all the files, I just insert the original DVD of WIndows 7, I restart my PC and follow the instructions of recovery of BitLocker recovery key, and voila. The problem is that I've NEVER stored on this particular external hard drive recovery key. BTW: I tried to follow the steps mentioned by Mr. Vijay but inconsistent tool with my operating system (Windows 7 64-Bit) it only works with Vista (not 150 percent certain but close). Please correct me if Im wrong. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

  • Is it possible to work on projects iMovie on external hard drives in order to save disk space on my macbook (the internal hard drive has little space)?

    Hello!

I have a problem working with iMovie on my MacBook Air... Drive HARD internal of the MacBook is unfortunately to small for the biggest projects iMovie... Is there a way to work on external hard drives or perhaps TimeCapsule?

Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, put your iMovie library/ies on a fast (7200 RPM) external hard drive to the Apple format is a good way of working.  Details of the setting up of libraries are covered in the help files to:

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/Mac/10.1/#/mov3fa25bae7

Note that you may need to consolidate the media in an existing library before you travel to avoid breaking links to media located in the libraries from other Apple applications.  See:

    http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/Mac/10.1/#/mov882dee351

I would not recommend using Time Capsule - you would need a separate partition above the used by time machine, and you could put some data on the same drive as backup.  Connection speed can also be a problem.

  • How can I copy all the 18 000 pictures on my imac to an external hard drive to give to my daughter and also keep on the imac

How can I copy all the 18 000 pictures on my imac to an external hard drive to give to my daughter and keep them all on my imac

Your daughter have a Mac and use Photos? If so just copy your library of Photos to SMT, it must be formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with the defined property is ignored. Then she can use the SMT library or copy it on his Mac.

If she doesn't have a Mac do the following:

1 - Create a new folder on the external drive.

2 - Select all photos in the library (in the window of Photos).

    3. Select the file ➙ ➙ export export Original unmodified for XXXXX items menu option.

    4. in the format of subfolder select Export window = name of the time

    5. in the next window, select the folder that you created on the external drive as the destination of export and export all your photos to this. Photos at every moment in your photo library will be put in a folder with the date of that moment and this issue will be put on the EHD in the folder that you created.
