DFS on the Windows 7 link icon

Hello

When I open a DFS root from a Win7 desktop, I see all of the DFS targets with standard folder icon more layering of 'link' (i.e. the blue arrow on the bottom left). On the Windows XP DFS targets in the form of a standard folder icon.

Is it possible to have Win7 view DFS targets using normal folder icon? I know that it is formally correct display the link, but some users are confused by these graphs.

Thanks in advance

  • Remove the Windows 7 Desktop icon shadows

How can I remove the shades of the Windows 7 Desktop icon? Whenever I place the cursor on one of the icons that square shadow appears behind her.

I tried just abut everything to stop these shadows to appear.

    Thank you

The solution to remove the shadows of the desktop icon is to show the performance Options screen and remove the control of the last listed issue "use Visual styles on windows and buttons" then click on apply and then OK. This will change the global settings for Custom.

However, there are some side effects of the use of this option that removes the shadows of the icon on the desktop. It changes your taskbar to style XP Taskbar and change also a custom icon, menus, and other advanced to default appearance settings. All the settings you have previously changed must be reaccomplished.

When you open Internet Explorer, it looks great in color etc that he did with XP which is now easier to read that Win 7, I feel. Each person will have to just play with the advanced appearance settings and select the ones they like best.

So far, I'm very happy with the settings I have now and also do not have the shadow of the icon on the desktop.

  • Query of the Windows security shield icon...

Hi my name is Michelle Maria... windows security shield icon should be at the bottom right of the screen even when everything is turned on? for example: firewall, automatic updates and protection against viruses... Thank you very much... Michelle Maria x

    Hi Michelle,

Windows Security Center can help enhance your computer's security by checking the status of several security essentials on your computer, including firewall settings, Windows automatic updating, anti-malware, Internet security software settings and user account control settings. If Windows detects a problem with any of these security essentials (for example, if your antivirus program has expired), Center security displays a notification and places a Security Center icon in the notification area. Click the notification or double-click the Security Center icon to open the Security Center and get information on how to solve the problem.

    Activate the Security Center

Let's get this out of the way first. To disable the Security Center Windows XP open Services:

    a. press the Windows + R key in the window that appears, type services.msc

    (b) in the window that appears, scroll down to Security Center and double-click it.

    (c) in the use of box 'Startup type' the arrow of scroll down to choose 'Activate' click apply and restart, or, click apply and click on the button that says Stop.

To open the Security Center open Control Panel:

    a. press the Windows + R key in the window that appears, type control.exe

    (b) in the window that appears, double-click the Security Center icon.

Hope this information is useful. If you need further assistance, please answer and we will be happy to help you.

  • The text on the Windows Paint program icon does not work

I use Vista and do not know if this is the reason why the text icon does not work. All other icons work. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Hi bipsvic,

Since when are you facing this problem?
    If it works well before?

I suggest that you want to run the file system (CFS) Checker scan that might help you to solve the issue.
To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
    2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
    3. at the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
     sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved. If the problem you are experiencing is not resolved, use the procedure that is described in the section "the System Restore tool.

Follow the instructions in the link below for more information on scan SFC.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/

Check whether the problem is resolved.

  • To create submenus in the Windows 7 taskbar icons

    Hello

I am interested to ask if anyone knows how to create submenus of the taskbar icons. If I right click my taskbar icon drop-down list (or should I say a drop of water to the top of list) is displayed. The list is the elements of most recently used folders or files. So lets say if I wanted to pin some items and then have the option to make the submenus for the various subjects of these same items added, is it possible to achieve this? I noticed now the list overides the oldest recent items, problems get solved if I pin the Favorites. It takes leaving less room for new items in the space bar.

If a submenu may be open to the right of each open menu drop down separate categories that would be great. Can it be done? If this is not possible I suggest to bulid in Windows 8. I see something similar is done in IE9 using the Favorites tab to manage subfolders for the links.

Try * 3 has some good stuff here.

  • question about the inability to meet the Windows Mail links

I use Windows Vista, Microsoft 7.  A year ago I moved to a new location and subscribed to a new ISP.  I'm not changing my email provider preferred to Windows Live Hotmail and kept the same e-mail address.  However, I was never able to answer e-mail links, I get through links web page by e-mail, or in a specific instance of frustrating, their responses to a Yahoo Group that I belong to.  The e-mail program that opens isn't just Windows Mail, Hotmail.  When I click on the link provided I always get a message similar to the following: "task: send msg POP3 Local Area Network Failed." Details: Secure (SSL): no, Socket Error number 11001 error 0x800cc0D the host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please check that you have entered the server name correctly. Topic: test new downloaded OpenOffice org doc. POP3 ACCT: Server SMTP Protocol SMTP Port 25 ".  This has something to do with the fact that last February my hard drive has been damaged and I lost and do not re-install the Microsoft 2007 family and Student Edition and use Open Office.Org rather to my documents?  Is there a solution?

    Thank you.

is there a solution to my original problem?

It's hard to say. It depends on if this part of your description of symptoms is bad or just does not work properly:

The e-mail program that opens isn't just Windows Mail, Hotmail.

There is no support for what you do with a Hotmail account (unless just using Windows Live Hotmail as a mail client), so if you went on the forum WLSC that you have been referred to them could help you find a workaround.

    I don't know if WinMail still supports a connection to Hotmail very well. To do this, she will have to support the newer DeltaSync protoocol not the old WebDAV protocol. Outlook or WLMail would have better choices as default email for this client. Otherwise, you will need WinMail to connect to Hotmail as a POP3 account, and almost certainly not be able to do it using host names that you have tried. Yet once, find you better information and support for this on the WLSC. ; }

Otherwise you can always check for addressability and connectivity using this SMTP host name and port number. It's unusual, but not necessarily incorrect according to the DNS of your ISP. You can use telnet in a cmd window to perform such a check:

    Telnet smtp 25

and see if you get a prompt to enter a SMTP request. If you don't enter QUIT

  • Get the Windows 10 - Bootcamp icon

    2012 Mac Book Air running

    Windows 7 Professional operating systems

    Everything is up-to-date.

I have the icon get Windows 10 and I can start it and it says: "update now".

If I select upgrade and it simply closes the box and that's all.

Apart from wonder why its not to proceed with the installation, im still uncertain if bootcamp is really favourable.

Try to update by using the. ISO file:

How to install and activate Windows 10 using your Windows 7 or Windows 8 product key

    also check

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times and try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Do a clean boot, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both and try the installation again.
    • If you update via Windows Update, when download reaches 100%, disconnect the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, and proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).
  • The Windows 8 desktop icons disappeared

just bought a new computer.  Yesterday, the Office had icons above and I was able to access the programs through the icons on the desktop.  Today, the icons have disappeared, and I am not able to access the programs, even through the start menu.  Where have they gone?  And how to find them?

    First, right-click and click view,

    Finally, click Show Desktop icons.

    OK, hope this helps!
