can 2nd hand hard drive, I put vista on it?

Hi all

First is the hard drive (Vista) on my wifes laptop packed in so I managed to find a 2nd disc from the hand of the same type that had vista on it too, but it has been cleaned. I have the recovery for the old disk cd hard and im wondering can I put vista on the laptop with the 2nd disc of hand and work there cause it have the product key for this. Make sence?

You can replace the hard drive of the computer and reinstall Vista. You can't have an install licensed so if the old hard drive still works, you need to remove Vista from it (if the old drive is broken it's OK).

Insert the recovery disk, and then restart the computer and boot from the drive to start the installation process. If the computer does not start from the disc:

BIOS - how to enter the BIOS and change Boot Order To Boot from CD/DVD

The computer might need to be set to boot from the DVD drive.

Each computer is different, when you turn on the computer, it should tell you what button to push to get into the BIOS. It is usually one of the following options and you have to push it in the first 5 seconds:

F1 F2 F10 F12 ESC LED

Once in the BIOS find the menu with the boot sequence and change it if it starts from the CD/DVD drive first. Each computer is a little different for this process as well, so I can't give exact directions.

If your BIOS settings are correct and if you have a DVD player, when the computer restarts if there is a message "press any key to boot from the disk", you press a key on the keyboard to boot from the DVD.

my laptop is dying, I can move my hard drive to another computer and still use vista coa?

    Hello

It depends on the type of license you have, as to whether you can transfer it or not.

Pre-installed Licenses OEM (HP, Acer, etc.) and the Microsoft System Builder OEM licenses are tied to the first machine that they are installed on and channels of license when this machine dies.

    OEM licenses are not transferable.

If you have purchased your own license for sale retail of Windows and installed yourself, yes you can transfer it to another computer.

    Retail licenses are transferable.

Just be sure that you have only installed on one machine at a time.

A single license means one Installation.

And if it is retail and transfer you, in all likelihood will have to reinstall the operating system, as this disc hard the 'old' aura card mother drivers installed, which will cause starting problems.

  • FAT32 formatting for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista

How to format FAT32 file system for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista?

    Hi MVRMVR,

Windows will work generally only format a drive in FAT 32 if it has a capacity of 32GB, no more. To format in FAT32, Yes, would need to create multiple partitions. This, of course, you don't want to do.

I have not tried to format a large drive in FAT 32 but I guess that any third-party partitioning software (Acronis, Paragon etc.) would be able to do it without any problem. Alternatively you can do it from the Windows command prompt. For more details, see the link below:

  • I have no media, but I have a product key for Windows Vista. Where can I get another drive in Windows Vista without having to pay for it?

    Mssing Vista

I bought a pc where it allows to be on Vista, the licens sticker is still on the pc, but I don't have a dvd, is anyway I can get Vista on back the pc without having to buy a new license?

    Hello

You don't need a new license.

Here are a few ways to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you never received a recovery disk when you bought / got your computer it should / can be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?  I have already reinstalled Windows 7 from the CD, but that has not solved my problems.  When I put the factory CD in my CD player, it won't always boot from the CD.  When I put my Windows 7 Ultimate CD in the CD drive, it doesn't always start from the CD.         I realize that the reformatting is not always necessary, but I caught a few viruses (despite anti-virus running) and I need to start with a clean hard drive.

You must go into the BIOS and change the boot on CD order
    first push.

How to get into your BIOS? It is not dependent on Windows, but on what he
motherboard/BIOS card that you have. In fact, you need access to the
BIOS before Windows begins to start. A common method is to press
the key delete when you turn on first, but this is not necessarily true
    for your computer. Watch the display carefully when you start first;
There is often a message here to tell you what to do. If this is not the case, check
your system documentation or check with your provider.

  • can I use the same product key once I formatted my hard drive using a vista upgrade disc?

can I reuse the same product code already used on one computer on another that I put that hard drive and is no longer using vista on this computer, but want to update another?

If your computer is pre-installed with Vista, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a license of Vista at retail, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.

  • HP 6280 t desktop computer. Can I install a 2nd IDE hard drive?

I have a desktop HP p 6280t.  I have some old hard drives PC alternative before... all of these disks are IDE.  The current hard drive in my 6280 is a SATA.  The HP motherboard belongs 492774 001.

I don't see how I can connect the IDE hard disk... Help, please.  Be descriptive in your explanation.

    EJD60, welcome to the forum.

There is a SATA controller on the motherboard.  Whether you are able to install an IDE hard drive, you must install a PCI Express x 1 card IDE controller card.

  • I'm running Vista Basic with 368 GB free space I want to know if I can partition my hard drive, allocating 200 Gb. to run my computer & HOW?

I have 1 GB of RAM, my friend broke his computer (or someone had to do it) which gives half of his memory of his PC.

How & I can do the same thing with 368 GB in my memory, that is to say:-using 200 GB @ least?

    Hello

narrowing of your hard drive is not more RAM, which is the memory of primany

you are confused as to what the memory is

disk space used to be called secondary memory

but this secondary memory storage only; not used to improve performance issues

    If you just want to have 2 scores on your hard disk, which does not improve performance read this;

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you

    Paul

    Hello Paul

Well, are not good news but it shouldn't be a problem to solve this problem.

You can go into advanced with F8 boot menu? If Yes, select Repair my computer and follow the instructions on the screen. All that s. So, you can use HARD drive recovery.

If you can t go into the advanced boot menu you should use the Toshiba recovery disc. You burn it? You need to start only with her and Windows will be reinstalled.
If you don t have the recovery disc, you can order one at Toshiba directly:

    Welcome them
