Dimension design best practices

Hello

I'm about to start a new project!

Do you have ideas on best practices to define dimensions? A presentation or conference will help.

I ask this question because it's kind of a mix between an art and a science.

And the current metadata provided seems to have redundancy on their GL segments.

I don't want to go and map each segment in each dimension, I think it would be counterproductive.

Thank you for your comments

Concerning

You may be able to get some advice from the technical point of view by searching online or via the database administrator's guide.

If you want to get this from the functional point of view, you will need professional help. The design will depend entirely on what are the needs of your business.

Only thing I can say is ESSBASE and planning analytical solutions type applications so we shouldn't try to bring in great detail it is there is transactional system.

Kind regards

  • Best practices in the design entity dimension

    Dear Experts,

What are the best practices in design of dimension entity?

I still create a hierarchy with all members of the application base in order to increase the speed of consolidation for other hierarchies. Is this correct?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Benoit

    Hi Benoit,.

There is no best practice since each client has different requirements.

However, creating a flat hierarchy with all entities of base is usual because one) you increase the spread of the calculation of the results of the Group (less features) and b) are you sure that you see the correct contribution of each base Group entity. But there are still other similar approaches which are usually will be adapted to the requirements of the customer.

  • Best practices for adding form fillable form designer EULA & forcing acceptance by the user

What are created the best practices for adding a license agreement end user to a form with LiveCycle Designer. and to force the user to signify the acceptance of the EULA before access inside the form?

Time, I have the kludged with a series of four message boxes (which is necessary because my LICENSE agreement, like most) is too long to fit in a single messageBox).  3 first message boxes have OK/Cancel buttons.  If the user clicks OK, she gets the following message EULA box; If she clicks cancel the form closes.  The last post (fourth) area a Yes/No buttons with the corresponding behavior.  It seems that the work (I think?), but it's ugly.  Is there an "easy way" to do it with a single drop-down dialog box "I agree" and "I refuse" custom buttons?

I've seen references to Tools like this but they are marked as obsolete or abandoned due to security or other unspecified concerns.

    Best, Blake

Another way might be, keep the form pages hidden at the beginning and only display a single page that has text box that contains the EULA with accept and refuse to scroll buttons. IF someone refuses, you can keep the rest of the hidden form or display message boxes to force acceptance of the EULA.

If anyone agrees, you can simply hide the EULA page, and display form pages.

I hope that used here too scripting required to reach it either.

  • Key design or best practices for beginners?

I'm a noob to NoSQL and just started playing with Oracle NoSQL.  Is there a guide or best practices around the design of the keys (values dynamic vs static in the major/minor) or how nested keys, or whether it is preferable to individual properties of key by an entire object by key (such as a Document DB) stored?

For example, a database that contains basic user information and the products they own.  Is a unique id for the user (such as a user name), sometimes it could be there IP, as the keys and the other information about the values.

    Hi Jay,.

Have you looked at in Chapter 3 of the GSG yet?

    Chapter 3. Record design considerations

As a general rule, the major key is used for the hash of a shard and the minor tone is used to search for records within the brightness. You want to keep your size as small as possible key.

There is also, sizing and planning included in the distribution that you might want to take a look at spreadsheets.

  • Question/design architecture with best practices?

    Question/design architecture with best practices?

Should I have separate Web server, weblogic application and IAM?
If yes that how this time will communicate, for example can I webgate on the server that will communicate to each other?
Any reference to decide how to design and if I have weblogic separate one for enforcement and one for IAM that how session management will take place etc.

How is general design happens IAM project?

    Help appreciated.
I have a business web application deployed on weblogic1 and OHS1

deploy webtier on this OHS1 to protect the resources on OHS1. webtier will be recorded at OAM (where will be able to communicate with OAM)

    I also IAM deployed on weblogic2 & OHS2

IAM components have weblogic. then ok. But you don't need to ohs2 here, unless your application itself requires OHS for hosting. But here, you mention that it is fair to IAM - so no need to OSH here. IAM installing requires weblogic.

wanted to know where should I create provider (weblogic1 or weblogic2), and install webgate (OHS1 or OHS2 or both)?

I hope it is clear now. If this isn't the case, query post for what is not clear.

  • best practices or framework for the design of OSB(11g) process

    Hi all

We worked in oracle 10g, now in the new project we will use Soa suite 11 g. For 10g, we have designed our services very similar to the framework of AIA. But since the introduction of OSB 11 g we are not able to exactly fit the frame of the here AIA because the BSO has a different structure of the BSE.

Can anyone suggest some design framework for the design of processes in OSB or 11g SOA Suite or best practices?

  • Best practices for the design of a printing environment?

    Greetings,

If there is a better place for this, please let me know.

    Objective:

Redesign and redeploy my printing environment with best practices in mind.

Overview: VMWare environment running 2008 R2, with about 200 printers. I have a majority of printers HP ranging from 10 years old again. LaserJet MFP, OfficeJets, etc... etc... In addition to the copiers Konica, Xerox and Savin. Many of our models of printer are not taken in charge in 2008, and still less x 64.

Our future goals include services eprint, as well as the desire to manage the print quality, and levels of consumition by something like Web Jetadmin.

Currently we have a 2003 Server x 86 server running our printers very old and 6 months ago the rest on a single x 64 server 2008r2. We ended up not giving it the attention to detail, it is necessary and pilots have become very congested, this led to a PCL6 only, UPD update that ended up corrupting several drivers through the UPD PCL 5 and 6 of the spectrum. At this time, we brought a second server 2008r2 and began to emigrate to those affected. In some cases, we were forced to remove manually the drivers off the customer system32-> coil-> driver and reinstall.

I've not had much luck finding good best practice information and thought I'd ask. Some documents I came across suggested that I should isolate a universal driver to a single server, such as 3 servers for PCL5, PCL6, and Psalm then, there is the need to deal with my various copiers.

I appreciate your advice, thank you!

  • Best practices for designing a view in PlayBook

    Hello world

I'm new to BlackBerry PlayBook development and I would like to know how to make a user interface appropriate for playbook, what would be the best practice to do and it will be helpful to me if someone can post sample code here

    Thanks in advance

    A few tips:

    * Views extend Sprite

    * Views should be resizable, IE have a setSize() method

    * views should 'PIN' children at some edges of the screen, from when they are resized it runs correctly.

    * a parent class must listen to the scene for Event.RESIZE and call of resizing on the view.

    * Use the component of QNX, set if possible

    * Implement native controls, like sliding down to the options

  • Design by using NetApp's best practices

I am preparing for my VCP5 and I read the new book by Scott Lowe. the book describes how the traffic should be isolated. your vMotion, vmkernal, etc., but in many organizations, I see the NetApp with some of data warehouses and a few LUNS to CIFS share LUNS. I guess you can have your vmMotion on a VLAN separated, but would not safer just configure a windows VM file server to host your files? In freenas and openfiler forums, they stress is not to run their software in virtual machines in a production environment.   Physical separation would be better then just a VLAN? I was inking and correct me if I'm wrong. I think the CIFS shares in a virtual hosting machine would SAN, vMotion, vmkernal, most reliable if you have redundant switches on both sides VMware hosts. So if your kernel switches drop your vmware environment will not drop.

    > traffic must be isolated.

Yes, the network traffic must be split on networks separated for various reasons, including performance and safety.

    > NetApps with MON a few for data warehouses and a few LUNS to CIFS share.

Yes, if you have a NetApp file server you can block-level storage server as FCP or iSCSI, CIFS or NFS file-level storage.

    > I guess you can have your vmMotion on a VLAN separated, but would not safer just configure a windows VM file server to host your files?

OK, you lost me.  Yes, you must separate the vMotion traffic to enhance the performance and because the vMotion traffic is not encrypted.

I don't see where you're going for vMotion to a Windows file server?

However, if you are referring to, why don't you your NetApp instead of Windows CIFS Server:

You don't need to patch and reboot the NetApp at least once a month.

    Performance is better

You don't need to buy a Windows license and then maintain Windows

Snapshots.  NetApp has the best shots in the business.  When your Windows I/O high, or just typing box because it of Tuesday and removes all of your VSS snapshots you really wish you had a NetApp.

    > In the forums of freenas and openfiler, they stress is not to run their software in virtual machines in a production environment.

Note that there are a ton of storage there equipment running as VMs and server NFS for shared storage, including left and they have been stable for years.

    > Physical separation would be better then just a VLAN?

Yes, if you have the infrastructure.  When it comes to the first time I've seen reference you VLAN?  Are you talking about now the NetApp as the series 2020 with two network cards where you need to carry all traffic (managent, CIFS and iSCSI) through them via VLAN?

    Like this: http://sostechblog.com/2012/01/08/netapp-fas2xxx-fas3xxx-2-nic-ethernet-scheme/

    > I was inking and correct me if I'm wrong. I think the CIFS shares in a virtual hosting machine would SAN, vMotion, vmkernal, most reliable

CIFS is nothting to do with SAN, vMotion or VMkernel.  CIFS (SMB) is the protocol used mainly by Windows file sharing

    > If you have redundant switches on both sides of the VMware hosts. So if your kernel switches drop your vmware environment will not drop.

You always want to redundant switches.  No single point of failure is the best practice.

  • design of BPM best practices

    Hello dear Co designers :)

What would be the best practice for desiging the following text:

1 - the user can select the form of distination bifurcation process a drop-down list [departments list | http://forums.oracle.com/forums/] in the form (i.e. routing based on a decision form the form data)

2 - user can add up to 4 departments as an entry which process instance should be routed to.

in other words, I have this delima

3 can I have route the instance for the same role, but with the departments deferential?

for example, I want to only users with role A but under organization unit B in order to see the instance in their Inbox, but users with the role A under other org units do not see?

    is this possible?

You can use parametric roles to achieve this.
You declare an instance variable called department and a parametric role where the parameter is the Department. Participants will be assigned to the role with the specific parameter and the instance variable must be assigned to a service, in this case automatically instances will be routed by Department.

  • AWM - cubes: best practices

    All,

I'm working on a development of the cube AWM and need help with some best practices on the design of these cubes.

    Thank you

40 dimensions sounds too. Not that it can be treated by OLAP.

Often the two things times are mistaken as a dimension:
    (1) an attribute from a dimension
    (2) a hierarchy to a dimension

Make sure that you understand when to add an attribute to a dimension AND when to add a hierarchy to a dimension, instead of doing these two things as separate dimensions.
A dimension can have several attributes and hierarchies.

Start with your reporting requirements and then to determine how stored and hierarchies of attributes, dimensions, cubes, measures are needed to support these reports. Do NOT ENTREPOSEZ to what you can calculate, using calculated measures. All OLAP engines are very efficient calculation engine.

Another point to keep in mind. You can (and should) create several cubes stored with less dimensionality to each of them. Then, you can create a cube of reports that is dimensioned by all dimensions and 'join' all data cubes stored in that cube of reports using calculated measures. So in the reporting cube you NOT all stored measures, ONLY calculated measures.

Partition your cubes stored in the time dimension. Start a MONTH level partitioning. You can always change it later. NOTE that this has nothing to do with the Option of partitioning of relational database. Partitioning of OLAP cube takes a logical cube and creates several cubes "behind the scenes" (you will not see in AWM gui) as well as several CPUS can be used to load the data of the cube at the same time.

Initially create all your stored cubes as compressed cubes and the value of all dimensions as "Sparse".

While OLAP and OBIEE can manage Parent-child hierarchies, I found that OBIEE works well with the level. So, if there is any parent-child hierarchies, then convert those to 'Ragged-based on the level' (NOT balanced with level). Avoid non-hierarchical hierarchies, as OBIEE generates too much (backstage) when requests further you on the SKIP level hierarchies.

There is not a general guide outside the configuration guide of product on the support page.

Partners have access to a guide designed for deployments of the value which is fairly comprehensive, but that is not published publicly.

There are some useful tips on recent presentations from Cisco Live in this area, but they are more PowerPoint as the deployment guide.
