Director of the laboratory, adding new network interface

Hello. I have a certain virtual machines in a workspace of LM and I would like to add another network interface. I have undeplyed the machine and it gives me the ability to add a new interface, however the interface I just added does not appear. How can I add this interface to a virtual machine that has already been added to a workspace?

Looks like what you're trying to do is simply add a NETWORK adapter to a virtual computer in a configuration. It is fairly common and is detailed beginning on page 49 here http://www.vmware.com/pdf/lm30_users_guide.pdf. Let me know if it helps.

  • Director of the laboratory - cannot export to ESXi host (SMBMount unsupported)

    Hi all

I had this problem since the liberation.  This is my environment:

Director of the laboratory of 4.0.1

    vCenter 4.0 Update 1

    ESXi (3 guests) 4.0 Update 1

Shared storage: EMC SAN with NAS volume on gigabit ethernet.

I opted to use on ESX ESXi VMWare's future, as far as development.

My problem is this: when I click to export a configuration of Lab Manager, it fails with "Error in export."  The details of the message are:

    * Error export the Configuration.

vCenter Lab Manager cannot find that any suitable host connected to the "NFS Datastore" data store for this operation.

Host 'ESXi1' is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.*

I installed ESXi being under the impression he was supposed to have all the same functionality as ESX.  Now, I have myself screwed... my users will sometimes have to export configurations to test booting the VMS of USB dongles (as there is no USB transfer directly to a virtual computer that it's time to start).  If at least 3 times a week I have to export virtual machines, one by one, to a network share, which is quite tedious and quite annoying.

Is on the timeline of development?  I noticed that the 4.0.2 has been released, but by its requirements (http://www.vmware.com/support/labmanager40/doc/releasenotes_labmanager402.html#newfeatures) it does not support ESXi 4.x, which is strange because the requirements for Lab Manager 4.0.1 (http://www.vmware.com/support/labmanager40/doc/releasenotes_labmanager40.html) list ESXi 4.0 as a host in charge.

Can someone please shed some light on this issue and maybe get it on the development plan for the next version of Lab Manager?

    Thank you!

    -Jesse Reinhart

    stemplar,

We don't do generally no update notes version after a product has been released.

In addition, it is not specific to Lab Manager, ESXi does not support required... orders so Lab Manager is just stating the restriction of resource pools provided.  As far as I remember, ESXi did not support smbmount (or mount-t smbfs) since its inception.

  • VLAN again added, problems detected on guests during the detection of new network configuration

    Hi all

I started facing a strange problem trying to use a new VLAN configured in my vCenter environment...

Basically, my system 'fight' to identify the new network label (VLAN) configured, leaving systems disconnected from the local network.

This condition disappears only when I change the VM touched, assign a label of different network (VLAN), apply the changes and restart the process by configuring the new VLAN return.

We will use an example to explain better:

    • I have a named Windows Server/Workstation VM: VM1
    • I have 2 VLANS configured in vCenter: VLAN50 and VLAN70

VM1 is sitting on the VLAN50 and has the static IP address configured.

I start the migration of the machine to a VLAN different, by editing the network settings of the operating system (IP, MASK, GW, DNS entries...) and replace the label of VM1 VLAN70 network.

At this point, the machine NIC shows as if it could not connect to what in the network, although it is configured accordingly in order to communicate in the new subnet.

I have change the VM again and change the label of a network VLAN different from VLAN70, click OK. Immediately, I change VM settings to assign in return the VLAN70.

After that, the operating system recognizes the network successfully and starts working as expected...

All of my virtual machines use VMXNET3 adapter and my version of vCenter is v5.5 build #2646482

    No idea what might happen?

    Concerning

    We found the problem...

It was not associated with VMware, but a network configuration problem: (ESXi connected to two switches, one of them with the VLAN configured correctly and the other does not...).

    Thanks for the help

  • Director of the laboratory - routing and VLAN

    Hey,.

So we are currently setting up Lab Manager in our environment, the environment in which we are setting up is a replica of our production environment. In the LABORATORY, we use 13 VIRTUAL networks.

I use Vyatta to route between the VLANS right now, but we are running into a problem now, 13 VLAN... 3 more that it has configurable s NIC on a virtual machine.

Aside from trying to convince everyone that we don't need of 13 VIRTUAL networks in a lab environment, are there other possible solutions or have you guys seen or been around something like this configuration before?

(I've been throwing around the idea of setting up two VM running Vyatta and creation of a separate network who share the two interfaces on one VLAN from the 14th and then distribute the network load between two virtual machines but it's even more work that manually configure an instance of Vyatta in LM whenever someone wants a new workspace to test.)

    What do you think guys?

I would say that you need to trim more work for yourself in the long term.   If you want a "real" picture of your lab and prod, you can see either plan b of your presentation above and buy physical passes capable of vlan trunking. Not much, we can hope for until Vmware gets beyond the limit of 10 - nic that seems more promising with all support for 10gbe cards now.  Some department stores I've seen can pull off a true mirror of their production environment as they can in their laboratory.  With virtualization, it makes it much easier to achieve.  I hope one day, we can be their one day ;-).

    See you soon,.

  • Adding a network interface in the console service to access a different subnet

Currently, I have an esx4.1 with a service console host.

It is connected to a 172.20.32 subnet on its virtual switch.

I have another virtual switch that is not on the supreme court that pertains to a subnet that is dedicated for backups and inter-server communications.  We call this the "back-end network.  It is on the 172.19.8 subnet.

Our backup software requres that the supreme court have access to the backup target that is on the network "Backend".  I need to implement the supreme court so that he can see this goal and be able to carry traffic through the 172.19.8 subnet.

Is this possible, and how would I do?

The easiest way would be to add a second Service Console to the virtual switch on the 172.19.8 subnet

  • Director of the laboratory of vCould Migration

Finally, we started with a proof of concept in lieu of LM vCD. Still everyone has a few best lessons learned? Networking seems to goo, but has yet to be understood. Plugin remote desktop feels worse.

-What is the best to do with workspaces?

-What is a mapping of good organization? For example, for access to the network resources?

-Is anyone has seen yet, how make an export full of all virtual machines in a paralytic (for example as a backup?)

Stop the VAPP stops it.  By default it just turns off the virtual machine.  You can change it to a soft stop via the good operating system in the properties of vApp.

Hot cloning can be done via the user interface, but can be done through the API.  It's the same for the extension of disk space.

  • For the installation of new network configuration

I have a few new pieces of equipment to start of my virtual machine configuration. However, I'm not entirely sure of what would be the most effective way to implement the side network and side EQL, then I would like some feed back.

    The kit:

    • 1 x Cisco 2960 24 port (management / VMotion)

    • 2 x Power Connect 5424 24 port (net SAN)

    • 1 x EQ6000xv 300 GB * 16 discs for 4.8 TB Raw (SAN with 4 ports/controller)

    • 1 x R610 (broadcom 4) (vCenter server)

    • 2 x R710 (broadcom 4 Nic TOE + port 1000PT Intel 2 additional on each server for natachasery/Server 6 total) (ESX / I have knots)

    Network:

Currently I have a certain VLAN ongoing enforcement, and because of some complications, looks like I won't get a subnet that is dedicated to the SAN (still pending).

Virtual machines will never access 5VLANs (including the Management VLAN I have a virtualized network monitoring app too).

I saw a white paper about it there but I can't find it now.

    SAN:

Regarding the EQL, I think of the following:

    1. 1RAID 0 (I know it's plenty of space to go, but it would be better? Dell saw recommend 50)

    2. 1 flight approximately 500 GB to store all the OS vmdk (a number will be unique discs because they do not really data and many have less than 1 GB)

    3. 1 flight, size 1 TB for mapping directly to a VM file server using the MS iSCSI initiators

    4. For the rest, I could leave it as what and the provision necessary.

    5. I also intend to provision thin all the VMDK and also the volume so

What needs to be run once to the top:

    • Two announcements (Win2K3), which will also be the file server.

    • 3 guests in low use of WinXP

    • 2 WinXP with DBs (each running on offices of single disk with P4 CPU of 2 G)

    • 1 WinXP host already on a DL380G3 with ESXi... this one is probably of the same caliber as the previous ones

    What is to come:

    • Installing SharePoint Services possible (more than 2 Win 2K 3 or guests with a SQL running Win2k8)

    • ISA Server

I would greatly appreciate any comments.

    You are welcome.

  • Director of the laboratory on ESXi

    Hi all

I working on my Masters trying to facilitate virtual laboratories. I configured from now an esxi 4.0 to run host machines and am able to connect to computers. I read on a post that esxi is not supported in vmlabmanger. However, the user's guide says that it could be used as a host.

Now, I wonder if I can go ahead and use labmanager for the deployment of the laboratories.

Could you please guide me with the installation requirements and procedure for vmlabmanager running on windows server 2003 and connect to ESXi host

    Thank you

I know that the new Lab Manager 4 supports (i) ESX 3.5 and 4.0, as noted in the release notes: http://www.vmware.com/support/labmanager40/doc/releasenotes_labmanager40.html ... I don't know about older versions

Y at - it no limitation as the amount of the virtual machine, we can create, or the amount of the host, we can use with Lab Manager?

    Thanks in advance.

For the portion of the price, the best if you call the seller serve you on VMware (partner or VMware).

1 Lab Manager license can only be used in 1 (physical CPU, not the carrots) take of the ESX host. So, if your ESX 4 CPU (say 4 CPUS, total 16 cores), need you 4 license of LM.

The license does not limit the number of VM.

  • Director of the laboratory by using too many IPs

Our lab environment manager has a pool of 200 IP to the choice.  We never have more than 100 machines deployed at once, but I continue to turn IP addresses before we brand reatch the 100.  I know that LM uses 1 internal address and an external but where the rest of the IPs go?  Is it possible to empty?

The internal IP address is reserved permanently or not this VM is powered.  Clones of a VM just overload this assignment of the intellectual property, so that the internal IP address is actually reserved as long as there is a virtual machine or clones of this virtual machine.

  • Director of the laboratory 4.0.2

Does anyone know when Lab Manager 4.0.2 is available?

    Right now actually... http://www.VMware.com/support/labmanager40/doc/releasenotes_labmanager402.html

  • Hosts are not displayed in the laboratory Manager

I have an instance of Lab Manager 4.02. It works fine, until recently, I had to remove hosts from the instance of LM. While everything was closed, and the hosts were removed carefully, I added the new guests, ensuring you configs were identical, networks etc. Same version and everything. The virtual Center took the boxes, and they work fine.

Lab Manager will, however, not seen. I confirmed repeatedly that none of my services fail, and no newspaper display errors. But the hosts under laboratory Manager section is empty.

I checked with wireshark, and I get connectivity, as well as the responses of the Director of the lab - virtual Center.

I brought the former hosts, with the same effect. I did then the labmanager to other VC instance he had never been associated, and he wouldn't see hosts there either.

What would cause this? Someone at - he already experienced this? I have data in real-time in the current Lab Director, if I prefer not to rebuild.

    Thank you

    Besides that Graham mentioned,.

    > I brought the former hosts, with the same effect. I did then the labmanager to other VC instance he had never been associated, and he wouldn't see hosts there either.

The Director of the laboratory cannot be associated with a single vCenter "Data center" object.  He memorizes the Objid of Datacenter and never delete it.  LM 4 should be able to work around this problem, or we can do something to erase the value manually.  But it would be better to try to verify the other steps first has affirmed here.

    > Then under management > resources section, click Resource Pools tab and select the "attach Resource Pool.

    > Select the resouce pool/ESX host you want on the shortcut menu.

When you perform these steps, take a screenshot (in case it does not work).  I would like to see what objects have the Lab Manager icon already associated with them.

  • VPN Cisco ASA 5540 L2L - one-way traffic only for the pair to a network

    Hello

I'm a little confused as to which is the problem. This is the premise for the problem I have face.

One of our big clients has a Cisco ASA5540 (8.2 (2)) failover (active / standby). Early last year, we have configured a VPN from Lan to Lan to a 3rd party site (a device of control point on their end). He worked until early this week when suddenly the connection problems.

Only 1 of the 3 networks the / guests can access a remote network on the other side. 2 others have suddenly stopped working. We do not know of any change on our side and the remote end also insists that their end configurations are correct (and what information they sent me it seems to be correct)

So essentially the encryption field is configured as follows:

    access-list line 1 permit extended ip 10.238.57.21 host 10.82.0.202 (hitcnt = 2)
    access-list line 2 extended permit ip 10.207.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.82.0.200 255.255.255.252 (hitcnt = 198)
    access-list line 3 extended permit ip 10.231.191.0 255.255.255.0 10.82.0.200 255.255.255.252 (hitcnt = 173)

Free NAT has been configured as follows (names modified interfaces):

NAT (interface1) 0-list of access to the INTERIOR-VPN-SHEEP

    the INTERIOR-VPN-SHEEP line 1 permit access list extended ip 10.231.191.0 255.255.255.0 10.82.0.200 255.255.255.252
    permit for Access-list SHEEP-VPN-INSIDE line lengthened 2 ip host 10.238.57.21 10.82.0.202

    NAT (interface2) 0-list of access VPN-SHEEP

    VPN-SHEEP line 1 permit access list extended ip 10.207.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.82.0.200 255.255.255.252

After the problem started only 10.207.0.0/16 network connections worked for the site remote 10.82.0.200/30. All other connections do not work.

There has been no change made on our side and on the side remote also insists there has been no change. I also checked how long the ASAs have been upward and how long the same device has been active in the failover. Both have been at the same time (about a year)

The main problem is that users of the 10.231.191.0/24 cant access remote network network. However, the remote user can initiate and implement the VPN on their side but usually get any return traffic. Ive also checked that the routes are configured correctly in the routers in core for the return of their connections traffic should go back to the firewall.

Also used of "packet - trace" event raising the VPN tunnel (even if it passes the phases VPN). For my understanding "packet - trace" alone with the IP source and destination addresses must activate the VPN connection (even if it generates no traffic to the current tunnel).

This is printing to the following command: "packet - trace entry interface1 tcp 10.231.191.100 1025 10.82.0.203 80.

So, basically, the connection should properly go to connect VPN L2L but yet is not. I tried to generate customer traffic of base (with the source IP address of the client network and I see the connection on the firewall, but yet there is absolutely no encapsulated packets when I check "crypto ipsec to show his" regarding this connection VPN L2L.) Its almost as if the firewall only transfers the packets on the external interface instead of encapsulating for VPN?

And as I said, at the same time the remote end can activate the connection between these 2 networks very well, but just won't get any traffic back to their echo ICMP messages.

If it was just a routing problem it would be a simple thing to fix, but it is not because I can see the connection I have to confirm it by the router base on the firewall, but they don't just get passed on to the VPN connection.

Could this happen due to a bug in the Software ASA? Would this be something with Checkpoint VPN device? (I have absolutely no experience with devices of control point)

If there is any essential information that I can give, please ask.

  • How many switches must be configured and min no network interface cards?

    Hello

    We will implement the ESXi5.0.

We would like to know if we use different ports for network management and vMotion groups?  It seems that two of them use the same (different from ESX 4) IP address.

In addition, my supervisor would like to know what is the minimum number of network interface cards to use (because the server has no slot PCIe)?

    Your opinion is requested.

Since we implement VLANS on our site and based on the documentation, ESXi 5 gets only 1 battery IP, wonder what is the best way to cope.

It is true that ESXi has that one battery IP, which is very good compared to the other two in ESX (Linux in the Service Console and the Vmkernel). However, we have only an IP stack means that it is the same driver tcp/ip, but does not mean that we cannot have multiple IP addresses.

For example, you can create a Vmkernel how many interfaces you want and assign different IP addresses, which could be on the same network or on different.

Even if you don't have a VLAN in your environment I would still recommend using another IP network for vMotion for your management. This will make the two a little more 'best practice', easier to different and you would be good too preperred if you implement VLANs in the future.
