Directory/folder operations - transfer of files based on a list

Hi all!

I have a dilemma: I have a folder of files, there are about 1000 .pdf files in the folder. I need to transfer those who are related to me in a different folder (about 250 of them) and I don't have a list of the files that I need. But it's a tedious process if I did it manually.

What would be the best way to manage it?

Thanking you in advance.

Hmmmm...   Always something...    This is because the "copy" command copies only the files, not folders.

The best way to handle this at this point is to put all of the directories that you want to copy to a separate 'list' of the file directory... call it "listD.txt".  You can then enter the following command to copy the directory/files:

for /f "delims =" %i in (listD.txt) robocopy /e "%i", "C:\path1\endpath\%i".

Yet another approach that would not create another 'list directory' must go back and to 'change' instead of the 'copy' in an empty directory.  A "move" operation will move directories and files.  After the move, you can open the destination directory, select all (Ctrl-A) and hold down the 'CTRL' key while you drag it to the original source directory.  This copierait them all back to the source, leaving you a new directory with a copy of what you wanted.

The program seems to be installed, but some of them are not listed in the Start Menu. None of them appear in the Uninstall list of programs. Also, some programs such as MS Office launch when I try to open the exe file in the installation directory. Other programs like winzip have been installed again when I opened the program executable in the installation directory, while others like firefox opens as if nothing was (with my already open tabs).

    This uniformity?
What should I do if I want to use, lets say that MS Office now? Are the installed files in program files, but I can't open the executable files.
    Thank you very much

I'm sorry, but you have been deceived, Windows Easy Transfer does not Support Program Files, you need to reinstall those of their original installation discs.

    Can I transfer programs?

No. Windows Easy Transfer only transfers program settings, not the programs themselves. To use the programs from your old computer, install them on your new computer, and then transfer the files and the settings for these programs. It is possible that certain types of programs, such as security and antivirus programs, may not work with this version of Windows.

  • "cannot complete the operation because the file or folder already exists.

    Hi all

Just spent in ghettovcbg2 and I must say it is indeed very nice.

    Just a small question though.

It's not like it is possible to do multiple backups per day?

I get the error "cannot complete the operation because the file or folder already exists.

    (1) is it only possible to make 1 backup per VM a day?

    (2) can I save to NFS I don't store files in the ESX Server data store?

It should work automatically, this is more than a warning. You should be able to run more than one backup per day? If that is not the case, please read the FAQ here - http://communities.vmware.com/groups/ghettovcbg2 and then to provide me with the details requested.

  • How can I transfer a file from the operating system to a backup of the production running VM virtual machine?

Problem:  After I do a backup one using ghettoVCB on a local VMFS volume, I have a virtual machine that I can start something happened to that running.  However, sometimes I just need a file from the OS level, which means that I would need to start to get them, but then I have an IP address conflict.  I can't imagine a way to have the NICs turned off and still be able to move the file.  If I change the IP addresses, the software that I need to create the file that I need to transfer no longer works because, although there no need of constant connectivity to the seller, it is locked to the public IP address.http://communities.vmware.com/images/emoticons/sad.gif

Material:  I have two 4 ESXi hosts to work, each with local VMFS volumes.  They share a private vlan common and a vlan common public.  They each ssh, ftp, wput, wget, and rsync available.  I have a Windows 2003 Server VM which also hosts a NFS and the VI client and other VMWare tools.  It also has private and public interfaces as do virtual machines that would be to make and receive the OS files.

Question:  How can I transfer a file from the operating system to a backup of the production running VM virtual machine?

    Thank you!

Yes Mr President, make sure you set the network on this virtual machine to be connected to the 'Internal' vswitch, you set up before turning the power on to the virtual machine.

  • Transfer of files from one folder to another

    Hi all
I have a problem regarding the transfer of files please help. My problem is there is two files a SHIPMENT and another is the Inbox in a m/c. I want to move/transfer of files from the Inbox Outbox using codes/PL/SQL procedure. Is this possible?
If possible please tell me how?

    Thanks in advance

    Concerning
    Sanjit Manon

There is no syntax to move several files at once. You move each file individually and have a loop that goes through the files that you want to move.

If you do not know the contents of the source directory, which complicates life. The package UTL_FILE does not tell you which files exist in a directory. I prefer a Java stored procedure to list the contents of a directory-Tom has a [example of Java stored procedure | http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0:P11_QUESTION_ID:439619916584]. You can also call a DBMS_SCHEDULER shell script to get a list of directories.

I'd be a little curious as to why you use PL/SQL to move files from a directory on a database server to another directory on the same server where you also don't know the names of the files that you are moving. This seems like something a little strange to PL/SQL.

  • Organize the former file based photo albums

I want to use pictures for its operation.  The problem is that, over the years of using iPhoto, and before that we have our big mac, we had albums based on records.  It's the style of back in the day.  So, this is the crux of the problem.  Yes, photos were not settled as of the events in the oldest in iPhoto.  I want to take the old 'albums' folder, turn them into what that photo considers that a form of organization.

These image files were probably not related "tags" or "Key words".  When you look at the older JPEG files, the metadata date taken is simply not there, and the date of creation was when we copied the PC to Mac.  So without record details, we would lose the dates.

I'm willing and able to start from scratch, based on a list of folders that contain images with missing 'date', but a clear folder with a date name and then import them into Photos.  If I did, they all end up as 2012 when we moved from windows to Mac photos.  Very bad.

Is there a good way to tackle this, even if we buy software to help?

Thank you very much for your help.

I understand the Photos method.  I want to just have successfully imported and do not lose their association with an album.

To do what you want, you must use this Applescript on Photos for Mac user tips for import folders of files image in Photos and albums: files import Image in the library in Albums

A compiled version of the script can be downloaded in the form of application from this tutorial page: P01 - Applescripts to user tips compiled as Photos Applications.

  • Can I transfer my file to outlook express on the desktop?

I currently have outlook express on my laptop.  I recently purchased a top of desktop with Windows 7.  Can I transfer my file to outlook express on the desktop?

Windows Live Mail is the replacement of the so-called for Outlook Express and Windows Mail for Vista. Personally, I can't stand it and use Thunderbird, but it's my preference, and who knows, you might like WLMail.

Support for Windows Live Mail can be found here.

Others include, Pegasus, Eudora, Opera and much more.

If you go with WLMail, here are the instructions. More detailed information is available in the forum WLMail.

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For Messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

    For the account settings:

In OE: Tools | Accounts, select the account and export it to the desktop. This will be an .iaf file. Copy it to the new computer and WLMail desktop: tools | Accounts and import the settings from the location you saved the.

  • I am trying to copy a file to another folder, I have the file open, how do the other folder along the side so I can drag and drop

I have a file on a cd - rw that I try to copy to a different folder, I open the file, but how can I get the new folder the long side so I can drag and drop

    Hi tommckeith,

    ·         What version of the operating system is installed on the computer?

    ·         You try to move the file on the CD to the computer or inside the CD?

If you want to move the file on the CD for computer, follow the steps in the article.

Move and copy files using drag and drop

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/move-and-copy-files-using-drag-and-drop

    Copy and paste a file

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/copy-and-paste-a-file

If you try to move the file to the CD, then it is not possible to make changes on the data stored in the CD. You must copy the data to the computer, and then make the necessary changes. You can also make the changes before saving the data to a CD.

  • Search for files based on the flow

Hi, I would like to be able to search for specific files mp3 and m4a files based on their bitrate, IE search for files with a bitrate to 128KBit.

I don't know, but is it possible under Windows Vista, or do I need another tool to do?

    Thank you

    Hello trotskyicepick,

Windows Search does not include a searchable property for the bitrate, but Windows Explorer can indicate the rate on view Mp3 files.  For example, you can sort and filter the search results by bit rate and group your files in this way.

For example, if the files in question are in your folder of music and its subfolders, click music in the left pane of Windows Explorer.  Now paste this query into the search engine:

    ext:MP3

Now, right-click on a column heading in the right pane and add the property of spleen in the view. Click the bitrate column header to sort the display rate.  Now click the drop down menu on the same header and choose "near CD quality' in the list.  This filter the search results so that only files recorded to 128 or more appear.

Unfortunately, the Vista does not support the M4a format, so speeds of transmission of these files are not visible in Windows Explorer.

  • Transfer of files between drives: data loss or corruption?

    1. Is there data loss or corruption during the transfer of files between disks in Windows 7?
    2. What about very large files, gigabytes in size?
    3. Is it possible to check if there is data loss or corruption?

Creation and verification of a checksum is a file operation.  It doesn't matter where the files are stored.

It doesn't matter if the source is a CD, a USB flash drive or a hard drive.  As much as the destination is concerned, if you write a large file on a CD, the possibility of error is greater if copy to a USB flash drive or an external hard drive.  Which is why you often see tips to burn at the slowest speed available when writing large critical files as an ISO installation file.

The only difference between 'copy' and 'move' is this movement copies the file and automatically deletes the original.

You want to make sure that the file copied correctly before the original has disappeared.  The way to ensure that is to perform a copy operation, check the integrity of the copied file and delete the original.

  • Is it possible to synchronize the copied file in the local folder with the original file in the network?

    Hello

I copied a file from the shared network folder and it is really important document, so I need to use this file as a file off the local drive connection and backup as well just in case where the cause accidental, but I don't want to save it each time and don't want to use the original file in the network.

Is it possible to automatically synchronize the copied file in the local folder with the original file in the network?

    Thank you

Absolutely without interruption would require a program to write that monitors files on the file locks and triggers a sync as soon as he sees a change.  So, since we cannot just write a program, the best thing is either:

    (1) an icon on your desktop that you can click each time you want to synchronize "synchronize my files now.

    or

    (2) plan the "my sync files' to run automatically every x minutes.  It could be a batch script that checks to see if the file is more recent and copies only files that have changed.  Although perhaps a little aggressive, you could plan this thing check-and-copy-a batch file - again to run every 60 seconds.

Batch files allow you to control the operations very directly, but Microsoft has also made a (not supported) tool called SyncToy who does all the same things, but has a graphical interface to select your options. It can be programmed to run automatically on a schedule.
