Dirty Shutdown (impure) of Host - Op system problems

I have the free Esxi running here in my lab at home. It supports 3 op systems: XP Pro, Windows Server 2008, and Small Business Server 2008.

The other night, I had a power failure and the computer stopped without op systems shut down properly. When I brought the computer backup I met problems with all systems 3 op.

XP - complained not enough RAM - solved by changing the settings of the virtual XP and add more RAM to the video

Server 2008 - the "lost" VMWare Tools - even though they came under "Add/Remove Programs", had to uninstall and reinstall the VMWare tools

SBS 2008 - had to manually restart a service on this issue.

Has anyone else had an output of the host machine down unexpectedly and then conclude that the op systems are funky or have "uninstalled" apps etc etc?

VMWare is not automatically recover the old clichés or do something that takes the installation of back in time, he doesn't? He 'felt' like I went back in time, kinda sorta.

I would appreciate any ideas on that.

Thank you.

Instead of a single operating system reading and writing on the disc, you have 3. It is very easy to have problems after a sudden power off. Operating systems use their own write cache internal to delay writing to disk. Who will be lost and can probably cause file corruption. If you have a RAID controller that the cache entry, but doesn't have a battery module supported that data will be lost. If you want to protect you get a UPS and virtual machines shut down on a power failure.

If you configure your discs in kiosk mode (nonpersistant independent) 'go back' would be the only way as ESXi.

    People,

Hello. I use VM Player 3. The OS is Windows 7. Guset OS is Windows Server 2003.

Because the host OS Windows 7 C drive is nearly full, I need disk cleanup for drive space in Guset OS Windows Server 2003.

Guest OS Windows Server 2003 VM hard drive parameters:

    Size current 92.5 GB,

    Maximum size of 150 GB.

I use Disk Cleanup tool to clean C:\Document and Settings\Temp\ and temporary Internet Files\ administrator to get 32 GB of disk space. Now my computer in Windows Server 2003:

    Used space: 59.2 GB

    86.2 GB of free space

    145GB total space

But when I check again Windows Server 2003 VM hard drive settings, its current size is 92.5 GB and is not afraid to 59.2 GB after cleaning. Host operating system Windows 7 disc does not come more disk space after cleaning.

My Player VM VM-> settings is not a function of "Shrink" and the program does not "vmware - vdiskmanager.exe" file to run the function of 'shrink '.

    My question is:

How to get the approximately 32 GB (92, 5-59, 2 GB) of disk space happen on Windows Server 2003 VM settings and drive hard host operating system Windows 7?

    Thank you.

    People,

Hello. VMware Tools has tab Shrink to reduce the virtual disk. But the free disk space hard host should be larger that the size of the virtual disk you are reduced to shrink.

The problem is solved by myself. Thank you.

    People,

Hello. I use 3 Player VM and Guest OS Windows Server 2003. The host OS is Windows 7. I need to increase the size of the VM disk, so who can install several systems in the guest OS. First of all, if something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications do not work. Can I just delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system?

Secondly, the problem of the first question does not affect files in the physical hard disk to host operating system?

That's right, as long as you have not added and other virtual disks of different folders on the host of the virtual machine, you can probably did not.

After developing the size of the virtual disk, you must also change the size of the partition in the guest operating system.

  • VMware Workstation is unable to open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum file size supported by the host file system.

I'm transitioning from Windows XP (64-bit) on a new computer with Windows 7 installed.  I undertook to VMWare Workstation 6 7.0.1 in the process.  The problem is with a very large RAID 5 volume on the new system.  It's a score of 5.45 TB (TPG and NTFS).

When I try to start a virtual machine on this volume, I get the message "VMware Workstation cannot open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum size of the files supported by the host file system.".  This is obviously not true.  If I copy the virtual machine to another drive on the system, it starts without a problem.

Anyone have any ideas on how to work around this problem?

try to add this line in the vmx file:

    diskLib.sparseMaxFileSizeCheck = "false".

    Maybe it helps.

    VMDK-type do you use?

monolithicSparse? -C' is the only part type more?

  • Is it possible I can get the virtual computer connectivity after restart to connect to the local network in the host operating system?

    Hi all

For some reason, I have to disable and then enable the LAN connection in the host operating system. If some virtual machines are running during this time, connectivity all VMs for out-of-world are lost, they cannot connect to the host even more (by running the ping command). I tried a few methods to retrieve the connectivity, but all have failed, for example,

    1. reboot the virtual computer

    2. restart VMware Workstation

    3. restart the corresponding system services in the host operating system

The only way I can retrieve all is to restart the host operating system itself.

Yes, is there short any path, I can retrieve the connectivity of these virtual machines?

    Thanks in advance.

Try installing a newer driver.  According to the site, you should be able to find a driver dated 2008 or 2007 (depending on which exact model of NetLink card you have):

Sometimes out of some firewall programs is not enough (they keep still themselves installed in the network of the host stack, even if they are 'closed').  You may need to uninstall to make sure that it is not interfere.  (Search the forums for support for your firewall software see if anyone else is having problems with vmware and 360 safe guard).

Path SUSE, I'll be hozed and won't be able to do! I already have two 2003 servers hosting the VMserver.

Is Microsoft 2003 server 64-bit the best choice for my host operating system

    Hello

If you go from material identical to the identical material then SuSE won't work. And if it is not the same as there is also a good chance that it will work as long as the SCSI/RAID device is the same. Or if start you the rescue disk device and recreate the initrd image. In general, I've never had issues moving from Linux to a host to another. I had problems worst move disks from host to host Windows. HAL/repair fixes have been painful at least.

Use of ESXi could mitigate this problem entirely.

I'm currently located in a place where the WiFi you buy will only link with one device and the IP and MAC addresses to confirm the device before you connect to the internet. I am to avoid paying for both (laptop and smartphone) devices through a wireless network but my laptop using Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. However, when I start the hosted network, either through the "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" command in the command prompt or via the software free virtual router Manager, my computer freezes completely and does not respond to anything except a hard stop. When I started this, everything worked well and I could use the network hosted without any problems, but in the last few weeks, I had to shut my computer down several times a day because of this problem. Can someone help me understand why my computer keeps freezing? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • 10 comments VM Windows will need to be recreated when moving to El Capitan Yosemite in the host operating system?

I have 8 Fusion installed on Yosemite. I have a guest VM Windows 10 and works well. When I install El Capitan, do I have to recreate the Windows 10 VM guest or it should run with El Capitan as the host operating system? Thank you!

    Hello

Upgrade to El Capitan shouldn't matter to your guest operating system, it must continue to operate as is.

However, DO NOT wipe your drive on the update as then it might erase your VM.

So best thing - as always - is to make a backup of your VM - with the virtual machine closed down and merge not running - before the upgrade to El Capitan.

  • Unable to connect to the MKS: the certificate of the remote host has these problems:

    Hello

We have a host of ESXi 4 cluster running any vSphere 4.1.  Recently, I started to upgrade to update 2 and all the additional fixes.  After the upgrade of the vCentre server to the latest version (or maybe before I can't noticed) an of are hosts began to show the following error whenever I tried to connect to the console of any guest on this host.

Unable to connect to the MKS: the certificate of the remote host has these problems:

It lists any problems at all and no error display in the event log that it simply does not work.  I had a prod around the internet and found nothing.  I then rebuilt the host to exclude and the problem remains.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

If you can connect to the Console remotely using VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client connected directly to the host, take a look at vmware KB to connect to a remote virtual machine fails with the error: the certificate of the remote host has these problems

but more generally - remove host to vCenter inventory and then add the host to the back, take a look at opening in the console of the virtual machine after a new installation of ESXi or ESX fails with the error: the host certificate chain is not complete and could not connect to the MKS: the certificate of the remote host has these problems

According to best practices, how he the host operating system should be used. Applications must be installed on the HOS or it must be installed in HOS and GOS be left to access the application in the virtual machine.

Keep all the stuff on the guest has some advantages

-You can run it anywhere where you have a VMWare host. This gives you great flexibility.

-You can create easy backups, no need to set up the entire operating system again and again and install all applications again and again.

-You can easily freeze the State of operational guest before making any changes (see before).
