Disable hyphenation

Hello

I have a script that will turn off hyphenation in all Styles of paragraph in a document, but not all, of the text have paragraph styles attributed to them, so my script keeps miss them.

Is there a script that will transform the disconnection of all frames/paragraphs of text in a document?

Maybe find hyphenation = true, change hyphenation = false?

Any help at all on this one help me out no end.

See you soon,.

Littlemookie

In "properly formatted text" everything should have a paragraph style, but even if you change the style, it does not mean that changes to text as well - it might have been overridden. So, Yes, do a separate run to be sure.

Find & replace is extremely fast - but... it does not support changing hyphenation! A few options are available in scripts and not in the interface (hyphenateAcrossColumns, hyphenateLastWord), but it does not help.

Then, since you speak of 'in a whole document", we'll just iterate on all stories and those of most all paragraphs.

for (var i = app.activeDocument.stories.length - 1; i > = 0; i--)
{
for (var j = app.activeDocument.stories [i].paragraphs.length - 1; j > = 0; j-)
app.activeDocument.stories [i] .paragraphs [j] .hyphenation = false;
}

As usual, it is more prudent to loop back on the elements. I can't say with certainty, but change the hyphenation setting just may disrupt the natural controls are in.

  • Disable hyphenation on a per language basis, how? IDCS4

I wonder if anyone knows how to disable hyphenation on a per language basis. Let's say I have a book in English, with a few words of French and interspersed with phrases by page thoughout the English text. Is it possible to prevent the French hyphenation, while allowing for the English Hyphenation? To me it seems sensible to have break as a character option.

    Thank you

    Ariel

If you're not checking fate, [No. language] language setting instead of French aid - ID cannot cut the words without knowing their language.

Simple words I usually don't bother, except when they get a hyphen. For the longest sentences, I use a character style or simply apply the language manually. Why wouldn't you want to cut out the words in another language?

  • Disable hyphenation when importing Word files.

How do you keep InDesign hyphenation automatically a Microsoft Word document? I tried to turn he took styles-> paragraph-> Hyphenation Options of Style. I even tried turning it off by default in the model. But as soon as I put the Word file in this model, he ignores everything and all hyphenates. Is it possible to disable the automatic hyphenation by default permanently?

If you have configured your paragraph with "next style" styles choices that work, you can select blocks of text and right click on the name of the style that should be applied to the first paragraph in the block and replace select one of the options 'apply the style and the following', depending on whether you want to keep the bet in local form, or remove all.

But what Jongware and I were talking was a local override to remove hyphenation. Select all the text in the paragraph or control panel menu, select standard and clear the check box.

It seems so simple and yet I can't make it work.

I click in the paragraph, then within the parameters of paragraph I uncheck 'Break' and click 'apply '. But nothing happens, the text is always a hyphen. I also tried the re spelling feature - cut the entire document (no idea how this is called in the user interface (English) but that's not enough of either.

It is a command line and should be displayed without hyphenation. If I insert a forced break (shift + return) then it looks good, but can be copied from the PDF file in one piece because of the supply line.

By default, FrameMaker enables a linebreak, if a link is located at the end of a line. To avoid this problem, do one of the following:

    • Do not allow line breaks after a hyphen:

      1. Choose Format > Document > text Options
      2. Remove the hyphen to allow line breaks after
      3. Click apply

This applies to the entire document. You can make this setting for all the files in your book.

    • Replace the hyphen with a nonbreaking hyphen (hyphen: Esc).

Note that if your copy / paste code or command, it will not work properly.

  • Turn off hyphenation for some words

    Hello

I have a Spanish project in FrameMaker 10. Will not a single document, but more documents for a month or two. One of the major issue is the hyphenation. As directed by the client, I turn on hyphenation. However, the client also asked to look for certain words (i.e. vehículo) that SHOULD not be cut. So far all I can think about was looking for help to FIND the entire document for vehicle and then applying the command disable hyphenation for this word (Esc n). Each document has 170 + pages. It's a waste of time to do manually even using FIND option.

That is why is there a way to:

1 either using FIND/REPLACE to define all words in the document containing "culo" to not be a hyphen even with break IT?

2 or using the same (FIND) command to look for any 'culo' beginning of a line and automatically or manually, ESC Nadal apply?

VEHÍCULO is just an example because I'm sure that there are many other words in Spanish that contains 'culo '. So I have to make sure that none of these words are cut irregularly. I know what it means in Spanish, and I apologize if some people might find it offensive. It is not my idea to offend, but to find a solution to this problem. Normally, I think that FM, InDesign and any other text, editing software can have these things in their dictionary.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,

    Sebastian

    Hi Sebastian,.

You can create a personal, 'personal' dictionary that specifies the rules of hyphenation desird for these words. FM dictionary file is just a simple text file (you can use Notepad to create).

    1. the first line should be:

    2. after that, each word entry has placed hyphens where the Word will be out. If no dash should be used in the word, the hyphen should be the first entry on the line.

Note: each line must contain a hyphen somewhere or FM will crash!

    Example:

    workflow

    automatic backup

    FrameMaker-

    -vehículo

    ... etc.

    3. the order is not important.

    4. you can then import this file into your personal dictionary using the spell checker. Click the dictionaries button:

6 select the personal dictionary and then in the drop down menu on th right select "import dictionary...". »

  • Frame unwanted break and infinite white space

I have a 197 string I want to display in a single text box (and can not have spaces between them, because the cast, I intend to use ultimately has a character assigned to the space that I don't want to appear between the other characters). All the content has to adapt, but once it gets past a certain size (about 11pt), InDesign requires some sort of break, pushing 80 characters in text 'in excess'... which does not appear in a text box, that I put on, but rather still registers as "overweight," so it seems that InDesign creates an infinite white space.

I have played around with all the options to keep, I tried the hyphenation, I checked and unchecked 'unbreak,' I tried using GREP to find hidden hidden line/column/frame break - nothing.

Here the whole of the text, visible to 28pt string:

    Screen Shot 2015-03-26 at 8.15.34 PM.png

and then disappear to 29pt, although there is still room in the text box for the remaining characters:

    Screen Shot 2015-03-26 at 8.15.43 PM.png

Am I missing something? Or is it just not possible? Thank you!

You'll have to do some manual work:

    • First turn on hyphenation, so you can see all the InDesign hyphenation line breaks drops.
    • Then click with the type tool to point break (end of line), and then choose Type > insert break character > discretionary line break.
    • Once you have done so for all the line endings, you should be able to disable hyphenation without the text becomes overset.

  • Linefeed only on spaces

    Hello

I'm working on a long text file that was created in a custom (in DEVANAGARI) font that uses several special keys.  Now, InDesign makes line breaks in random locations around the words, characters mapped to the letters on the English keyboard.

For example, on my police combinaisondes EG9) = would be a Word, but InDesign my break line everywhere in this word because he recognizes as an English word.

Did someone knows a way to allow only on a space character line breaks?

    Thank you!

    Christopher

If disabling hyphenation and/or by applying correct language code and the police don't/does not work, you will need to apply without a break for what is between the blanks. You can use the GREP expression for it:

    Search: (?)<>

    Change of: leave it blank

and No Break setting in Panel Format change.

The first and the last word in a story is unclear, but the first Word won't need for the seamless. The last word in a story, you can capture with this expression:

    [^ \s]+\Z]

  • Help. Very stupid problem with the placement of word files.

As you can see I am a beginner total to Indesign. I don't know how but I can't place any text imported from Word into my project. Weird thing that if I create a new document it works. However, in this project I've done a lot of styles and other things so I don't want to start from scratch, so the question is:

Is there some option "I accidentally the entire project" and is anyway to fix it. [Or maybe export styles and master pages to another document?]

The problem with the placement of text word said that the text is too big (Red Cross).

    Ok.

There are a number of possibilities for what are the causes of the text immediately became excessive. Is usually only a problem with a youove of added restrictions that makes a too wide to fit in the frame line (but it can also occur if you have a set of "keep the option" which requires the text to stay together and there is inusfficient space to hold all the lines, or requiring that the text starts on an odd page / hand and the one you have is wrong).

The most common cause is probably the wrong application of the No. Break attribute. New users sometimes confuse this to how to disable hyphenation, but in fact it prevents any text to which it is applied to break even between words. Next most common, I think, is a long text string with nonbreaking spaces between the words (I see a lot of this in Word documents), and not allowing not standard, yet once, there are no place to get out.

I've also seen cases where the format for the text calls for a font size of very large size, which makes it impossible to fit the text, or when the dashes from left or right, in the paragraph style, override local formatting or text block options, are too large to allow the text to fit.

The best way to find out, in my opinion, is to choose the frame then go to Edition > edit in story editor, you can see and select the text and check these things.

  • Error spacing

    Hello

I'm having a problem when you try to insert a space, when you write some text.

When I hit space, the text disappears, as if an enourmes space was inserted, only the text is found, no matter how I develop the text block.

Any body know how to fix this problem? Maybe a setting somewhere?

    Any help is appreciated!

If this happens in new documents, it is almost certain that No Break was created with nothing open and it is now the default. A mistake of users application No Break to disable hyphenation and this is the result.

There are two places where you can go to to solve this problem. First close all files, if you set the global default value.  From the character Panel or control panel with the text tool is active, open the flyout panel menu and find No Break (bottom of the list in the character, four Abu Panel downwards in the control panel) and make sure it is NOT checked. Also, go to the [standard paragraph] style and modify it. Character formats base make sure the Break box is NOT checked.

Who will set the new documents, but will not help what it is existing. Yo I have to fix them one by one. First thing is to open the doc, then the steps above with no recurrence selected text. Check any other definition of style of sparagraph, too. You may also have No Break applied as part of a character style, and that style could be selected by default, so with any selected text and no active cursor, open the character Style Panel and make sure [none] is highlighted. Who will set the new text you add, but the existing text will still have to No Break applied if she was not there as part of a paragraph style. To correct this, you need to select text and delete the No Break (or change the style of character, if it has been incorrectly applied).

For a lot of text, the fastest way to do that is probably to find/replace. I would like to use GREP and the search string should be. + (who told simply to find any character or characters, then it will look at everything in the document), but a search of plain text for the end credits of "any character" ^? will work as well I think. Assuming that No Break was not applied as part of a style, open the formatting to find in the Find/Replace dialog box options and go to the basic character Formats section, then make sure the box Break has a black, not grey, check if you find the text to which it is applied. Let the change for the empty field and open the Edit formatting Options dialog box. Back to the basic character formatting, and clear the box Break. At this point, you could do a whole change, but if I thought that there are places that it should really be applied I would probably scroll through using Find, then replace/find or find next to ignore instances where it belongs. This is where using GREP has one big advantage: it will find whole paragraphs at a time while the text character by character. Given that the text is overset, you need write the editor mode to see what is highlighted.

If it was applied by the character style, and by applying style was a mistake, you can make the same change to find, but instead seek without pause in the formatting of characters, look for the character under Options of Style style in the find formatting and change the style of character to any formatting of the change.

If you need me to clarify (that's a lot to digest) let me know.

  • CS3: need script to replace spaces with underscores in the paragraph and character style names

Help! I am very new to scripting.

I managed to find and tweak existing javascripts to search through all my paragraph styles to disable hyphenation and off balance the jagged lines, but I need help with this one.

I work on Mac OS 10.4.11 using Indesign CS3.

I need a script that will search all my paragraph and character styles in my open Active document and replace spaces by underscores.

Can someone help me with this? It would be greatly appreciated!

    1. I don't know, but I think you can use all the regular GREP inside this function codes. Do not use the quotation marks around of the expression, use slashes! (Why? Just a curiosity of Javascript... maybe a hack that goes back to the gray mist of JS development...)

This work should - but rather the code above, this is not tested:

    .. Replace (/ [-\ / ()-. _] + / g. '_');

The GOLD group inbetween the brackets contain all the characters you want to replace with an underscore: the hyphen (this has to be the first character in the group, else it will be interpreted as a range of characters from each side!), space, slash (this one is 'special' inside the function replace JavaScript, so I think he needs to escape with a backslash)! in parentheses, a period (not sure if it should escape - into ordinary GREP, it's the wildcard character for any character, but maybe he loses his magic within a group of GOLD) and finally... the underscore character. Why?

Well, this replacement string comes with a free bonus. Note the sign after the installment of GOLD +. This means that a whole sequence of these characters is replaced by a simple underscore: "it's / a - / test" will become "This_is_a_test". Adding the underscore line itself to the string of research means that it will also find the whole chain 'space space (stroke underscore)' in 'This style (_)' and, oh magic!, replace it immediately with a single underscore.

Just FYI, the tiny "g" after the closing slash is abbreviation of 'global', i.e. at the global level, replacing in this string. replace the default values for a replacement only (why? see above...), and adding the 'g' ensures he keeps replacing until it is not find matches more.

    2 see point 1.

    3. uh, yes it's true, but you will need to check very carefully if nothing inside one of these basic models is substituted. You can apply a base style and add substitutions to make look like a subtitle, but that isn't making it a. And to the next paragraph, you can apply a base style and add substitutions to make it look like a paragraph of plain text (etc.). It's a signature of witness to bad formatting...

You may have installed one or more variants of the malware "VSearch' ad-injection. Please back up all data, and then take the steps below to disable it.

Do not use any type of product, "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" on a Mac. It is never necessary for her, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attacks, not less.

Malware is constantly evolving to work around defenses against it. This procedure works now, I know. It will not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a couple of days or more after it was published should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.

    Step 1

VSearch malware tries to hide by varying names of the files it installs. It regenerates itself also if you try to remove it when it is run. To remove it, you must first start in safe mode temporarily disable the malware.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for other instructions.

    Step 2

When running in safe mode, load the web page and then triple - click on the line below to select. Copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

    In the Finder, select

Go ▹ go to the folder...

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + V. You won't see what you pasted a newline being included. Press return.

A folder named "LaunchDaemons" can open. If this is the case, press the combination of keys command-2 to select the display of the list, if it is not already selected.

There should be a column in the update Finder window. Click this title two times to sort the content by date with the most recent at the top. Please don't skip this step. Files that belong to an instance of VSearch will have the same date of change for a few minutes, then they will be grouped together when you sort the folder this way, which makes them easy to identify.

    Step 3

In the LaunchDaemons folder, there may be one or more files with the name of this form:

    com Apple.something.plist

When something is a random string, without the letters, different in each case.

Note that the name consists of four words separated by dots. Typical examples are:

    com Apple.builins.plist

    com Apple.cereng.plist

    com Apple.nysgar.plist

There may be one or more items with a name of the form:

    com.something.plist

Yet once something is a random string, without meaning - not necessarily the same as that which appears in one of the other file names.

These names consist of three words separated by dots. Typical examples are:

    com.semifasciaUpd.plist

    com.ubuiling.plist

Sometimes there are items (usually not more than one) with the name of this form:

    com.something .net - preferences.plist

This name consists of four words (the third hyphen) separated by periods. Typical example:

    com.jangly .net - preferences.plist

Drag all items in the basket. You may be prompted for administrator login password.

Restart the computer and empty the trash.

Examples of legitimate files located in the same folder:

    com.apple.FinalCutServer.fcsvr_ldsd.plist

    com Apple.Installer.osmessagetracing.plist

    com Apple.Qmaster.qmasterd.plist

    com Apple.aelwriter.plist

    com Apple.SERVERD.plist

    com Tether.plist

The first three are clearly not VSearch files because the names do not match the above models. The last three are not easy to distinguish by the name alone, but the modification date will be earlier than the date at which VSearch has been installed, perhaps several years. None of these files will be present in most installations of Mac OS X.

Do not delete the folder 'LaunchDaemons' or anything else inside, unless you know you have another type of unwanted software and more VSearch. The file is a normal part of Mac OS X. The "demon" refers to a program that starts automatically. This is not inherently bad, but the mechanism is sometimes exploited by hackers for malicious software.

If you are not sure whether a file is part of the malware, order the contents of the folder by date modified I wrote in step 2, no name. Malicious files will be grouped together. There could be more than one such group, if you attacked more than once. A file dated far in the past is not part of the malware. A folder in date dated Middle an obviously malicious cluster is almost certainly too malicious.

If the files come back after you remove the, they are replaced by others with similar names, then either you didn't start in safe mode or you do not have all the. Return to step 1 and try again.

    Step 4

Reset the home page in each of your browsers, if it has been modified. In Safari, first load the desired home page, then select

    ▹ Safari preferences... ▹ General

    and click on

    Set on the current Page

If you use Firefox or Chrome web browser, remove the extensions or add-ons that you don't know that you need. When in doubt, remove all of them.

The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you reinstall it never. A few small files will be left behind, but they have no effect, and trying to find all them is more trouble that it's worth.

    Step 5

The malware lets the web proxy discovery in the network settings. If you know that the setting was already enabled for a reason, skip this step. Otherwise, you should undo the change.

Open the network pane in system preferences. If there is a padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window, click it and authenticate to unlock the settings. Click the Advanced button, and then select Proxies in the sheet that drops down. Uncheck that Auto Discovery Proxy if it is checked. Click OK, and then apply.

    Step 6

This step is optional. Open the users and groups in the system preferences and click on the lock icon to unlock the settings. In the list of users, there may be some with random names that have been added by the malware. You can remove these users. If you are not sure whether a user is legitimate, do not delete it.

  • Is it possible to remove hyphens at the end of a line separating the parts of a Word? Thank you

    Hello

I was wondering, Indesign automatically add hyphens at the end of a line to reach a part of the word with the next part (on the next line). Is it possible to get rid of it in my entire document so that indesign automatically updates the word on the next line instead of separating them by a dash? I was passing by it manually and fix but it takes many hours.

Let me know if it is not clear what I'm saying

    Thank you very much

Ouch!  What you need to do is turn "caesura".  Select all of your text and drag it in the control panel command like this:

You can also disable it before starting in the paragraph Panel, or turning it took off without documentation open to default.

  • How to stop the words being hyphen-established within the text box?

    Hello

Problems with words being split and hyphenated with a text box, regardless of the justification, it disables?

    Thank you very much.

You can turn off hyphenation in the paragraph styles or bar when you are in text tools in edit mode.
