Disadvantages of Windows 7

Windows 7: "how I hate you, I count the ways." I have worked with and adapted to all MS from DOS systems, jumping from Vista, but Windows 7 is causing deep pain. Without going into all the trouble, let me mention a couple:

Libraries: Ouch. Looks like you work with folders. N ° can be very confusing if you're used to the "old" windows Explorer, where you HAVE decided where the files. I hack the registry to disable libraries and give up the convenience of Assembly of the files of a similar type located on different drives. A personal choice, of course, but I feel an irritation that MS does not give me the choice without a complex registry hack.

Permissions: I'm the only user, probably the administrator, without administrator password. But I'm still stuck to simple file management tasks. How can I work around this? Any links would be appreciated. I tried to change the permissions under "Properties/Security", but I can do for the directory c:\users\username? For the whole c:\ drive? Do I have to create an administrator account separate, another that I started with?

Sorry for ventilation. I would appreciate any advice. I thought I was pretty BONE and smart file management, but Windows 7 ultimate brought me to my knees.

"If I wanted a MAC, I would have bought a MAC.

Thank you very much.

Jack

1 open Windows Explorer on the folder you want, get in the folder desired and then right click, select create a shortcut.  Then do drag the shortcut to the desktop & rename it if you wish.  You can leave it on the desktop or add it to the start menu, all programs of the files where you want [hover over all programs entry then right click, open to see files then down through any folder you want to add it to].

2 you cannot Pin this shortcut to the start menu or task bar directly.  To do this, it is a bit more complicated.  Go to the start menu, all programs, accessories and right click on the link to the Windows Explorer, then select copy.  Paste this link on the desktop then right click & Select Properties.  In the target field, add a space at the end of the existing entry and then put in the path to your user folder and put in quotes if there are spaces in the path.  You'll end up with this in the target field

%windir%\explorer.exe "C:\Users\YourUserName\My documents".

or

%windir%\explorer.exe "C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents."

[these two do exactly the same thing]

Then you rename the shortcut to something specific if you don't get mixed up with normal Windows Explorer shortcut and then right-click on the shortcut and select PIN to start menu or PIN to the taskbar.  You can then delete the shortcut [or store somewhere far] PIN operation will have created a copy of it in the appropriate settings.

  • need of five advantages and disadvantages of the windows 2000 operating system

I'm looking for five the advantages and disadvantages of windows 2000 for my children ok operating system

I can't get to five of each, but...

Windows 2000 has been designed more as an OS company than a House, so should be the characteristics that probably would not need a home user. Plus it's really, REALLY old that dare go, and there is no support for it (end of July 2010). There is not much more for new audio and video devices driver support. It is not really designed for the game, if that's what they have to.

You do not mention their age and what level of expertise they have. Don't forget that with EOS, there is no update security more released for it.

  • PS or Illustrator to create a composite picture?

I am trying to build a composite image (a human figure), using elements cut, resized, rotated and pasted from photos.  It will be then abandoned in my own background illustrated on the fly.  The final product will be printed/published.  I use a MS Surface Pro 2 - Windows 8 - which has a small screen (and probably a few disadvantages of Windows-based), but a useful pen.  Would you recommend me using PS or Illustrator (or something else)?

It can be done in Photoshop, but the more convenient environment for this sort of thing is actually about InDesign. That's where I'd do it.

Preparation of the photos must be made in Photoshop first, of course (and vector illustrations in Illustrator). But then all items are placed in the identity document, and cropping, resizing, rotation, displacement, overlay and so on is a child to identity card game - which is his main set of tools.

  • Windows on Mac - clean install disadvantages and benefits vs Bootcamp?

    Hi people,

I recently got my first Mac - one Macbook 2016. I tried on El Capitan, and I still much prefer Windows, I'm looking to install on Mac.

I've read through bootcamp for double installation, but largely, I would prefer to perform a new installation on Windows (I have a copy of Windows 8.1 Pro with a license key). I can't determine whether or not it is recommended and I would appreciate it if someone could clarify it for me.

    My understanding is that: -.

    (1) it is possible to completely remove OSX and have a clean install of Windows.

    (2) OSX (in my case, El Capitan) can be reinstalled at a later date without extra cost (i.e. free) using the OSX installer.

    (3) install or remove Windows OSX will not affect my warranty the warranty is of Apple hardware.

One of the main concerns seems to be none using Bootcamp means pilots Apple for Windows will not automatically available. I heard some mention that these drivers may actually now be downloaded separately on the Apple site and installed directly on the machine once Windows is in place. Can someone confirm this please?

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope can get definitive information and I can move on Windows soon.

    Welcome to Apple Support communities

You are right. You can remove OS X and only keep the windows, but it has some disadvantages, to know before doing this. Apart from this, Internet recovery will let you install OS X at any time even if you have deleted the recovery partition, and you will not have to pay for OS x: OS X is free and is already registered for your Apple ID.

Drivers, Boot Camp Assistant (an application, you can find in/Applications/Utilities) leads you through the first steps before you install Windows on your Mac, and one of them is to download the drivers for your Mac requires and put them in a USB key. However, you may need to OS X to get latest driver versions.

Instead of completely removing the OS X, I suggest to allocate more space to Windows, but keep OS X in a small partition. By doing this, you will always be able to update the drivers (where you need OS X to do) and you will have fewer problems getting OS X in the future if you want to delete Windows.

Finally, don't forget to make a backup of your files before you install Windows on your Mac. You may need it in case something goes wrong with the Windows installation.

  • Advantages and disadvantages of adding programs and the operating system windows to mac?

For a long time Windows user., new Mac user. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the addition of the windows operating system and programs for the MacBook Pro? I use word and excel regularly, but not yet sure I want or should add capacity to my new Mac.

If you need Windows programs that don't have any equivalent of Mac, there is nothing wrong with it.  I have not because I didn't need Windows programs.

    But...

If you do, you must decide if you need full-system-resources (Bootcamp, boot sector corrupted system, OSX will sleep while Windows is running) or just one-environment virtual (VM, share system resources, runs as a 'guest' to OSX at the same time as OSX).  Bootcamp will have part of your partitioned drive so make sure you have spare disk space.

And if you go Bootcamp, position and spend time in the Bootcamp Boot Camp forum where lonely T is an expert who can guide you.

  • Advantages and disadvantages of the move to 64-bit (part of the migration of Windows 7)

Windows 7 offers the first decent opportunity for many people to move from 32 to 64-bit.  Why would we want to do this?

What are the main benefits of the 64-bit to 32-bit?  The disadvantages?
How much faster (what) is 64 bit to 32 bit?
How do you know that all your hardware is compatible with 64 bit?
What is the processing power weaker, you have to correctly run Windows 7 64 bit?  32 bit?
How much RAM if you properly run Windows 7 64 bit?  32 bit?
What is the best way to find or fix compatibility issues software (64/32)?
What are the most common upgrade problems wait?
Where are the best places to find solutions?
-Answers to all these questions would be useful for me and probably many others.  I know that Microsoft may have already reported their views on most of them, but I'm looking for a more objective point of view.  Thank you.--

    1. a 64 bit OS allows you to use more than 4 GB of RAM. If you have programs that like a lot of RAM (Photoshop, video editing, CAD), it's a good thing. Some video games also take advantage of 64-bit computing.

    2. a 64-bit operating system run 32-bit programs. If there is a 64-bit version of a program is the program mftr. Search on the program mftrs different.' Web sites.

    3. you know that your hardware is compatible with 64 - bit on hardware mftrs.' Web sites and doing research. If you have an OEM computer (Dell, HP, etc.) you are linger everything first. You should always check for devices such as printers, etc. You must have 64-bit for all your hardware drivers.

    4. the amount of RAM you want depends on what you do on your computer. Nobody can answer you. If you surf and email, and play casual games, 2 GB is fine. If you play the video of high-intensity games, you'll want to 3-4GB and a great video card. If you do CAD, you may want 4-6 GB. Do your search according to your computing needs.

    5. for software compatibility, you will have to deal individually with each program. The logical starting point is with the technical support of the program.

    6. you cannot upgrade a 32 bit OS to a 64-bit OS. You must do a clean install.

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/Win7.html#System_Requirements

Only, I would buy an operating system to 64-bit right now is 32-bit will be eliminated. Of course, you must have the material to support!

  • What is disadvantages of creating partition after installing windows Xp or windows 7 or Windows 8?

What is disadvantages of creating partition after installing windows Xp or windows 7 or Windows 8?

None in general, you can assign optical readers or card readers a different drive letter for drive letters may be consecutive.

Specifically, if you're talking about reducing the existing operating system partition it is pretty reliable but could save all important files 1.

The choice to create more partitions during setup of the system instead of when Windows is online I would choose the first when possible.

  • What are the disadvantages to download Windows 7 Home Premium from the U.S. instead of the United Kingdom?

    Activation

My PC vendor failed to provide me with a product code, so I can't activate Windows. This forum told me I have to buy another copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The cost of the software during the purchase of the United States is much less expensive than when purchased in the United Kingdom. Is there any disadvantage when downloading the product of the United States?

It will work very well in the United Kingdom, there are no geographical restrictions on activation outside the United States.

  • Advantages, disadvantages of the use of 3rd party firewall vs WIndows firewall?

At the suggestion of PA Bear, I open this thread to learn about firewalls.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro SP3. I use ZoneAlarms free firewall. It seems however, ZA conflicted with my WiFi USB NetGear adapter and threw me the network after about an hour (in one place, totally crashing the machine to a blue screen). At the suggestion of the PA Pooh, I unloaded ZA and activated Windows Firewall - no more conflict.

But I'm missing a couple of other functions, I had with ZA: - visual indication on the taskbar of traffic flow - permit/deny internet access to specific programs - completely locking all internet activity

So is a decent firewall program that offers good firewall protection AND these conflicts of WITHOUT Extras?

    Or:

Why should I stay with Windows Firewall and not look elsewhere for additional features?

    Ed

Hey, Joel. Thanks for the reply.

I liked the alerts because there seems to be a lot of things happening in the background that I had never heard. I enjoyed being able to see what was going on and kill him. "what do you say every time I open a file that you want to connect to the internet?"

The other part is that I use my laptop and more in environments where I don't have an internet connection I do in coffee shops where I have WiFi. I didn't want the constant slowdown of who-knows-what-and-how-many programs to make repeated calls for a connection.

Router? Everything I do is turn on my computer and plug my USB adapter and connect. (There's a guy at Starbucks, almost every day that comes out of three laptops and one buncha other things - it's his corner office!) I don't know what I'd do with a router - it's just me and my laptop and Starbucks (or elsewhere).

    Hi Ed:

If you use your laptop frequently on the public networks, a third-party firewall is maybe a good option. I detect not just since your original post. You should look at the link below for a list of the popular options. Comodo, however, would be my choice if I had to use a.

  • My question is, windows 7 will be tailor-made for the big players like me. What are the advantages and disadvantages to the extent of the game going? I would verymuch like to know all the back and to not until I upgrade to Windows 7. Thank you verymu

As a major player, I am very concerned by the idea of upgrading to windows7. I really need to know if it's worth the expense because I have the older multiplayer games that I still love to play on XP dating all the way back to the year 2002.

Win7 can be a nice game platform.  Before begin you, check to see if your favorite games is compatible.  Some games, especially the very old, have difficulties.  Check out this thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7programs/thread/3c1d9def-5320-41e2-9990-85fb525f373d
