Disconnection of frequent host to vCenter

Hi all

I vSphere vCenter and add host (all with U1) (patched with ESXi400 - 200912001.zip cause cannot connect to the host to vCenter before apply this hotfix to the host) but host disconnect frequently. I mean, I connect to the host the vCenter and all goes well, after about 1 min, disconnection of the host and don't know why. If I connect with the vClient to the host, the vClient keep the connection with the host, so the problem is the host to vCenter. I have already increase the time-out without any change, of course, if the network is 1 g and the server do nothing... yet;).

I have not yet allowed, but still have many days of evaluating, vCenter on XP SP3 and the host is not a virtual machine.

No idea how can I solve this problem?

See you soon

  • 'Disconnect' a managed host to vCenter Server: practical application?

The vSphere client offers the possibility to "unplug" a managed host to vCenter Server (right-click > disconnect).

I was wondering in what situations it would be used/useful? He influence the virtual machines running on the host? Is "reconnect" everything just like linking to the departure to a new host?

    mudage

Here is what I use the button disconnect to:

I have an old vCenter 4 install with 10 ESXi 4.0 hosts, I now build a vCenter 5.5 system and need to migrate to this vCenter but I can't have all the time.

So, I hit the button disconnect and then add the ESXi 4.0 host in my new vCenter, then at my convenience I then host 4.0 on a host 5.5 vmotion.

I hope this makes sense to you.

  • Mobile 5.1 ESXi host in vCenter unpublished 6 - license?

    Hi all -

If I take an ESXi host 5.1, previously managed (under license) via a given vCenter (also v5.1) and its key in the inventory management, then I disconnect/remove this host from the vCenter 5.1 and connect it to a completely new vCenter, what happens to the host of license?

It disappear and become a 60-day eval, or his license key moves WITH the host in the new vCenter?  (The new vCenter in this scenario would have absolutely zero license keys from host ESXi that apply to guests of ESXi 5.1 existing installs below)

I was wondering what 'happens' in this scenario I have the document our so-called steps for migration.  Yes, I know that this could / should all be tested "in the lab" but don't get started me on that.  Thanks for any comments on what I can expect.

My best guess is that the host will LOSE its license now, it becomes a 'standalone' ESXi host when disconnected and removed from the old vCenter (via the "Delete" command).  I want to just make sure that it is also fully functional, if she has run VMs on it at the time or not (although Yes, I'll put it in maintenance mode before removing the old VirtualCenter and join a new).

And Yes, of course I have old games of the existing environment 5.1 ESXi license keys.  I'm just trying to set expectations as to what is happening in licenses-wise once I move the host from the old to the new vCenter.  I have all pretty well understood technical pieces, including AVS and DVS network considerations.  Thank you.

  • Unable to add previous hosts to vCenter device

Greetings.  We are migrating our guests to new hardware.  We had three hosts for running ESXi 5.5.0 - 1331820 with the vCenter device on one of them.  Everything worked well.  In the process of moving virtual machines around, vCenter device has been deleted (intentionally).  We recreated the device of the OVA 5.5.0.5201 vCenter and ran through the Installation Wizard as previously.

Now, when you add one of the existing hosts to vCenter, it finds the host and displays information.  When the user clicks on finish, it works quickly up to 80% and the host appears, and then disconnects.  The log shows: add host independent, added host, unable to connect host computer in the data center; connection error host, removed in the data center.

The error showing is: cannot communicate with the specified host (x.x.x.x). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Now the stupid thing is that we can not even add the host on which the vCenter unit is on.  In addition, all hosts and vCenter unit are on the same network of management.  There is no firewall doesn't block all ports.  I read through a lot of the display of the Knowledge Base, and most is in regards to incorrect IP addresses or ports blocked or similar.  I checked through everything and could not find anything wrong.

Last thing is that we amazed the ESXi host that had the vCenter device on it and re-installed 5.5.0 - 1623387 ESXi (version a little more recent than before) and reinstalled the that vCenter device exactly as before.  Now we can add that the host but still cannot add other hosts.  So it appears the issue is something with the hosts and not the device vCenter.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I run in to the same kind of problems with other factors.

FWIW, have you tried the following in this order? 1 stop the vpxa on host, 2 service. Stop the service vmware-vpxd on the vcenter server, 3. Start the vmware-vpxd on the vcenter server, 4 service. Start the serivce vpxa on the host. Then try to add.

  • Cannot add host to vCenter server as data store is shared with an existing host to vCenter

Recently, I removed a physical host to a virtual appliance of vCenter Server and am not able to add it to vCenter Server because I get an error message on the existing data store.  I run a simple server vCenter environment with two physical hosts and shared storage.  I've only been administering vCenter for a few months, so I'm relatively new on the technology and processes.  I searched the Internet for a few days now, but have not found documentation everyone has the same problem I have (which I find strange considering the simplicity my problem and configuration), so I tried to get help from the community of VMware.

I received an error message a day this vCenter Server cannot connect to either of the two hosts so I removed the host (rather than disconnect and plug as I should have done).  Now, I am not able to connect to the host to vCenter server because the shared storage data store comes into conflict with the same data store used by the host in vCenter Server.  I get the error message is ' "Datastore"datastore_name"is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (ds: / / / vmfs/volumes/UUID /), but is supported by different physical storage." "  I try to remove the host data store, but get the following error message: "resource" data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: UUID' is in use. ".  The error stack said: "'HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume' call failed for object 'storage system' on ESXi"IP address"."  Cannot unmount volume ' data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: 'UUID' because the file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation. "I tried to delete all virtual machines of the inventory, put the hosts in maintenance mode, restart physical hosts, but none of my troubleshooting contributes.

I don't know what steps to take to get this data store driving with the host so that I can add it in vCenter Server.  You can provide me with any help is appreciated.

Good thing you already moved the VMs on.  For what is 'disconnect', 'remove' or 'delete' might work anyway.  You should maybe put the host in maintenance mode or even reboot the host before you can remove data warehouses.  In an extreme case, I even had to remove the host and the hypervisor installed completely rebuild on the spot.  It is not that difficult or does not take long to reinstall, so be not afraid on this subject.  A clean reinstall could still save time compared to the deletion of data warehouses.

  • Migrate to ESXi 4.1 hosts to VCenter again

    Hey volks!

Today, I finished with the installation of a new server VCenter 5. There is another VCenter 4 Installation that actually manages our ESXi 4.1 hosts. Now I would like to move the hosts to VCenter 4.1 environment to the new (5) a.

Is there a way without having to move the hosts in Maintenance Mode?

What I read on the web - can I just uninstall the agent, but no guide step by step has been found and I would prevent mistakes when doing. Also, I think that this is not a good way to do it, or?

I'm sure someone did it in the past and can enlighten us on this.

    Thanks in advance,

    Matthias

NAAA it should be simple. Cluster resources can be a problem, but I don't see it as a big deal,

    1. Disconnect host VC4
    2. Remove the host of VC4
    3. Add a host to VC5
    4. and repeat step 1-3 for all remaining army.

vCenter and HA agent will be installed automatically when add you the host to the VC5

  • Is it possible to add the ESXi 4.1 host to vCenter 4.0

    Hello

When I try to add ESXi 4.1 hot to vCenter 4.0, after a few seconds, esxi 4.1 is disconnecting to form vCenter 4.0.

I have two blades, one blade server has ESXi 4.0 and another has ESXi 4.1. Can I manage the two hosts to vCenter 4.0.

Note: I can not upgrade my ESXi 4.0 to 4.1, I need to test my product on both versions.

    Thanks in advance.

You must have a vCenter license registered on your account in order to download it.

  • Disconnections and HA hosts

    Dear guys,

Due to some migration clusters I had remove hosts from clusters and join.

with HA in place before disconnecting, I got messages like: host attention, withdrawal could lead to the violation of costraints HA.

Then I disabled HA I'm sure that remove hosts, VCenter which would have seen as a failure of the hosts and HA could have been activated (switch off the virtual machines and raise them on another host).

Can you give some best practice in such a case one?

I had to also disconnect/reconnnect welcomes for the resettlement of the VPA officers and I had the same warnings.

    Thanks in advance.

    Daniele

HA will kick if the host cannot see the other guests of the HA cluster and fail to ping their address of isolation.   Usually the address of isolation is the entry door unless you specify something different.

I have a few clusters at two knots in some of my field, and I discovered the hard way, that the best thing to do is to disable HA before performing any maintenance operation.  In clusters, we have more than two nodes, I have no issues removing, restarting, or disconnect a single host in the cluster.

  • Cannot delete host to vCenter

    Hi all

I have a curious problem here, I am trying to remove a host to vCenter but get the following message: "the object has already been disposed or was not completely created."

I think there is a certain entity in the vCenter database table over? Anyone any ideas?

    Hi André,.

Thanks for the answer, it turns out that it was a problem with the obsolete entries in the adam database. 5.5 vCenter, had not consulted the web client in a while & only he saw there.

  • Unable to connect hosts to vCenter

    Hello

I see this problem is well known, but after trying everything I found here or on the different VMWare KBs (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1027672), you are my last hope !

When I try to add a host to vCenter (via vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client), I have the following error:

    • Cannot contact the specified host. The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond

    About versions of software:

    • ESXi 6.0
    • vCenter 5.5 (installed on a Windows Server 2008R2)
    • vSphere Client 5.5

    Here's what I CAN do.

    • The host can ping vCenter (both with IP and server name)
    • vCenter can ping on the host (with IP and server name)
    • DNS resolution works great
    • I can connect directly to the host with vSphere Client (and create a virtual machine, if I want to)
    • The host is not in "Lockdown" mode
    • The vCenter database is clean (MSQL Express, a small)
    • I tried to affect the timeout of negotiating SSL 12000ms, as it is mentioned in the KB, but the problem is still there
    • vpxa service is running on the host computer

If you have advice, information, even the smallest one, please share it!

Could this be a problem in version? A known issue with 6.0 ESXi and vCenter 5.5?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Yes, problem solved.

My mistake was that I just add the network configuration of the ESXi domain suffix, but I did not actually Add the ESXi host at the estate, with the permission of the administrator of the domain. (Now, it seems so obvious...)

So I had to plug directly into the host ESXi via Vsphere (in my case Windows), go to the configuration tab and add the host to the domain.

    After that, everything went well.

Thanks again Andrew for your help on this!

    Nice day

    Any help would be appreciated

Found the problem as vCenter 6.0 version I was running. I was running an older version of the VC and the current version of ESXi.
Downloaded the current version and reinstalled and all good.

  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.
