  When I try to add ESXi 4.1 hot to vCenter 4.0, after a few seconds, esxi 4.1 is disconnecting to form vCenter 4.0.

  I have two blades, one blade server has ESXi 4.0 and another has ESXi 4.1. Can I manage the two hosts to vCenter 4.0.

  Note: I can not upgrade my ESXi 4.0 to 4.1, I need to test my product on both versions.

  You have to run for about 1 or 2 months before all the esx hosts can go to v5.

  Guests 4.x will continue to use the vSphere licenses 4. vCenter will require you a new license key for itself when you upgrade to 5, and ESXi hosts, you are upgrading will require licenses on vSphere 5.

  Found the problem as vCenter 6.0 version I was running. I was running an older version of the VC and the current version of ESXi.
  Downloaded the current version and reinstalled and all good.

  I'm trying to migrate my two 5.1 ESXi (port management and virtual machine) for distributed virtual switch but one of them host the vCenter 5.1. I import one successfully, but the one with the vcenter may not be imported. Is there a quick way to do without re install the vCenter?

  If the vCenter is on a storage shared between two hosts of ESXi. Stop the VM vCenter. Once turned off.

  Connect to the two hosts individually using vSphere client by using the credentials of the root.

  Remove the vCenter VM inventory and re-register to the host using dvswitch.

  On the VM vCenter back and migrate the other host to dvswitch now.

• ESXi/ESX host disconnects vcenter Server 60 seconds after the connection

  Hello guys,.

  I recently made some changes to my VMware Lab.

  I'm under vCenter 5.1 with several hosts of ESXi 5.1.  My vCenter ran on one server ESXi 5.1 until I recently migrated there in a window of Windows 8 running VMware Workstation 9.   The vCenter is running normally and I am able to add hosts in stock, but they disconnect after approximately 60 to 90 seconds.  I believe that this issue is that the heart beats that are sent by the host do not reach the vCenter (port 902), I think that it is similar to the issue discussed in the following KB:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1029919

  Here are my questions:

  1. the article describes download wireshark and run scripts.  Is there an easier away from do?  I'm literally just checking this single port of the ESXi host, there is no equivalent for telnet from an ESXi host?

  2 VMware Workstation 9 block ports or run its own firewall any?  Since this vCenter worked perfectly when running on the host ESXi 5.1 we know this isn't a firewall on the virtual computer problem, I have also checked the Windows 8 machine running VMware workstation and have verified that the windows firewall is disabled.  Windows firewall is not the issue.

  Yes, it's a way to do this.

  Unfortunately, the ESXi 4.1 installation wipe the disk to complete installation (or logical volume) as you have experienced. Assuming that "logical partitions VMFS" you mentioned are logical volumes actually created in the RAID configuration (presented as individual of the operating system disks), you can migrate the virtual machine that is currently stored on data store of the installation disk to a data store on one of the other logical disks and then install ESXi.

  Hi all, as a subject, really. I have been troubleshooting a problem where, when adding a remote host to vCenter, who host their product to unplug a few seconds.

  At first I thought it was my firewall rules, but I've sorted which and I don't no ACL denies more on them.

  I can connect to the host very well using the vSphere Windows-based client, so I do not understand it.

  Should what kind of information I add to this post to help the guy to help me?

  Thanks for the advice... He led me to the correction, which was that VMware KB: NAT between the vCenter Server system and ESXi/ESX host using

  My vCenter was behind a NAT firewall that was causing the problem.

  Usually this error appears when the ESXi host, you're trying to add has a newer version than vCenter.  Depending on your case, both have same version. In fact, it should work fine without any problem.

  Can you please confirm the ESXi and vCenter versions? Also can you please post numbers comes together?

  I created a home set up a VMware datacenter for study purposes. I currently have 2 virtual machines: an ESXi host with vCenter Server Appliance deployed on this subject.

  I configured the server vCenter through web interface device and I have connected using vSphere Client.

  I created a data center, but when I try to add a host, I get "ERROR: the request exceeded."
  Connection with vSphere client directly to the ESXi host works.

  I can connect using SSH to the ESXi host.

  I have disabled the firewall on the ESXi host.

  I have read many articles on the kbase but nothing helped me to solve this problem.

  You have any ideas?

  I finally got to understand.

  It seems like my vmware workstation is not connected to the esxi as a physical host in my local network host, and so I was able to ping it unit of vCenter Server (but it worked the other way around, and that's why I thought it was ok).

  After the connection to the physical LAN of VMware workstation settings, everything worked fine.

  Hi people, forgive me if this isn't in the right place. Finally move the update and patches of my three hosts ESXi 5.0 with Update Manager. I was quite easily able to update two of my guests with managers to upgrade to a more recent version, however puzzled on what to do with the host that hosts my vCenter on that server? We have VMware essentials if we do not have to use Vmotion. Is there an easy way to update this host without vCenter cloning and move to another host to update?   I guess your vCenter is on the shared storage - connect to the host of your power VM vCenter down the VM and remove from the inventory of the hosts - go to one of the hosts that has been already updated and add the virtual machine to inventory and run it - and now, you're ready to use the Update Manager to update host rest.

  We have 2 VMware environment in the work.

  A production environment which consists of four hosts ESXi 4.1 managed by vCenter 4.1 with Enterprise license.

  We have a host of ESXi 4.1 stand alone with the standard free license.

  I have a Windows XP VM on the test area.  I need to make a model of the virtual machine, and then to deploy a few new VM from him.  Now, this is where the problem.  I want to do all this but having the VM running on the test area.  Of course these features are not included in the free ESXi license.

  However, I think that I could download the VMDK files in the test area, import them into vCenter and then make a model in there.  I could deploy VM from the model power vCenter them down, download VMDK files and then download on the test area.

  I'm pretty sure it's possible, but I want to just make sure.

  It should work. Assuming that the free host doesn't have its VM on shared storage that is also accessible on the production cluster, you can export the virtual machine to the FVO and import it in vCenter.

  I am trying to add a new host to vCenter. The host is running ESXi 4.1. Whenever I try to add this new host, I get the error "cannot install the agent vCetner service. Cannot download agent. "the host then appear in the Datacenter as disconnected. If I right click on it and then try to reconnect it I get the error "Cannot complete the connection due to an incorrect user name or password." I've attached a screenshot of the error I get, I tried unsuccessfully several different things without success. I added other hosts no problem, but for some reason it is not working. Maybe I'm just on something simple. Let me know and thanks in advanced!

  That's all. vCenter Server Essentials 4 is also limited to 3 guests.
