Disk Cleanup cleans too much

After using the disk cleanup and/or delete cookies, click on 'my documents' sometimes gives me the message in a security alert box that says: "your current security settings do not allow this action".  It is related to the deletion of the temporary files and cookies.  I used regularly cleaning disc for years and never had this problem. I can reboot, which solves the problem, and sometimes clicking on Explorer windows me provides access. Called engineer and he is clueless.

User ID for different sites used to stay if I cleaned my computer, but not now.  In the last two weeks or more, all settings, even those where I clicked "keep me signed in", have disappeared. I complete the info, but if I use drive clean once again, they will.  Another new problem is that cookies are now a few numbers and letters, so I can't identify the ones I know are related to passwords and I have to keep.  I didn't click anything to encrypt or hide. I'm too old to remember their so much used to manually remove the unwatedn everyone. Windows allows me to remember, but this box is gone for a while. Came back via AutoComplete, forms and passwords.

To security settings preventing me from accessing my documents, "I tried to share the folder, separate, simple release file sharing, but trying to clean temporary files causes havoc without worrying." Looking for viruses and malware still ok.  Clean reinstall last year and he had a WORD six months ago. I use ie8 with XP. I am the only user and the administrator only.

You started by saying that you have your problem "after using disk cleanup and/or delete cookies.  As a doctor, you should be familiar with the old joke:

Patient: Doc, does it hurt when I do this.
Doctor: Do not do this.

When you run Disk Cleanup, do not check the box to clean 'Temporary Internet Files '.

I don't use Internet Explorer much, but my suspicion is more related to your use of IE 8 than any change in disk cleanup.  If you wish to continue using IE 8 (rather than, for example, Firefox) and you want to continue your practice periodically remove all temporary Internet files and browser cookies, then I suggest that you re - post your question in the Forum of IE8, where someone who knows of IE8 can be able to provide substantive advice more.

It (probably) won't be the problem alert security, but instead rely on your browser (whatever you choose to use) to store usernames and passwords, you can use a "password manager".   I don't am not sure that I'd recover completely "Top ten customers", but it gives you an idea of what is out there.  You can the rated and other research applications (or ask in the forum, IE).

You must use the scroll bar on the right disk cleanup in the window that appears after checking for space to scroll to check the boxes before these items.

Deleting the less important system restore points allows you to earn useful free disk space.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner also comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

    Method 1:

If you want to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and then go ahead and delete it, it would help your computer run faster.

Disk Cleanup removes temporary files, empty the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

  • Is there a way to check if my disk cleanup is working properly?

When I do a disk cleanup, it tells me something about sending errors to Microsoft? one old man was cleaning my drive... it works correctly or?

It could be useful that you have provided the error... but if all that says is that disk cleanup have closed and an error report is sent, it's too cryptic to be of no use.

You have passed the phase of ' disk cleanup is calculating how much space you will be able to release... '. "and see the list of items to remove?

If not, it can be set to the "scanning: compress old files.» It is fairly common, but it does not usually produce in an error report unless you get impatient and try to get out.  Many people simply disables the checking of files that can be compressed.  If you want to do this, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812248

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

opening firefox, I received a popup saying I was running more disk space and click on the ball to fix. I had cleaning disc, but after a few minutes, he said he was unable to download and to make sure no other copy of firefox was running and restart firefox.

I tried it and no luck

    Help, please

I'm not running XP at the moment, but I & others I know have sometimes leave much fuller than the recommended hard drives.

I think that probably 20 to 25 percent of space would be recommended and defragmentation IIRC is impossible, in about 15% of free space.

Not sure I remember the updates warn guests to download for downloads and you may need to be wary of this incase you download malicious software.

This isn't really a specific problem of Firefox.

    • Can unload you all of the large files and folders at least temporarily somewhere else maybe for CD, Flash drives

I hope that's not too much, but I appreciate your comments.

    Thank you

    2. I also get the message that I ran out of memory for the application.

Maybe it's the origin of many of your problems.

    There could be 2 causes.

    (1) your startup disk is out of space, and OS X can create is more / var/vm/swapfile (s)

    (2) the collection of processes that are running on your system has requested more virtual memory that OS X is ready to handle.  This happens usually when there is a leak of memory in a program.

You should start with Applications-> Utilities-> Activity Monitor and watch your memory usage.  I hope over time, you will notice that one of the applications consume much more memory than anything else.

When your system is starting to exhibit slow performance, but it is still able to do something, run EtreCheck and then after the release in response to this forum.  It is important that you expect from your system approaches of the State where it is either going to give the out of memory performance or the application only allows you to run anything.  If you post the production of EtreCheck of a freshly booted system, it will be not as useful as the system in trouble.

    https://discussions.Apple.com/docs/doc-6174>

You can conduct an experiment by starting in safe mode

    http://support.Apple.com/kb/ht1564>

Safe mode does not load 3 additions of party, so if they are the problem, you will not see the same performance issues.  HOWEVER, safe mode loads some much more conservative drivers, and the Mac cannot perform fast and have a few flickering screen.  But if you can live with that period of time where a system booted normally would start to misbehave, safe mode could give you an indication that it is 3rd party additions.

In addition, EtreCheck will show 3rd party additions, including any residual Norton Utilities that hang around.

The forum long term contributors is discouraged unnecessary utilities unnecessary anti-virus Mac apps cleaner and useless apps expanding.  It has been our experience that all contribute to the performance of OS X problems and in some cases of the core OS X gets crazy.

Another thing you can do is watch the Applications-> Utilities-> Console app for frequent of the journal entries, as a process that starts, dies, starts, dies, starts, dies, wash, rinse, repeat.  A dying like that process can consume a lot of resources, but do not appear in the activity monitor, neither an EtreCheck report.
