  • Windows 7 sticks on disk cleanup Temp files

I try to manually delete the temporary files as one of the previous posts proposed there are thousands. I go to it with %Temp%. However, many of them tell me that they are in use or should not be deleted. I recently started to use this computer and already deleted several viruses. Should I delete these independently even when they say that. There are also folders showing nothing in them under folder who say they are required by Windows when I delete them manually. Should I just delete the files and not all folders in there? Also if I want to delete them all, it is there a way to select the entire document at once instead of just now r pressed while clicking on each of them?

    Thank you, Charles

However, many of them tell me that they are in use or should not be deleted.

-> He actually says "cannot delete", "are in use" or "access denied." It is perfectly safe to delete anything in the temp folder (if you can), except when installing some software.

  • Disk Cleanup stalling on temporary files for more than 3 hours and eat memory!

So, whenever I checked my C drive I get different numbers on how much space is left. I deleted 45 GB (sent to remove trash and Perm.) data I didn't need and I always as much as before, if not less. I then tried to run the disk cleanup for that drive and it keeps blocking on "files temporary scanning", which since more than 3 h and no other programs other than windows base and Trend Micro are running and system keeps using more memory. CPU usage has been the use of 80-90% during this period

This all started a few days after a windows update.

It is using 25% CPU usage... as to what it is I don't have any idea. I've used it before and it scanned in less than 45 min.

  • Have I done something catastrophic after deleting permanently files using disk cleanup in Windows 8?

    * Original title: disk cleanup, Windows 8

With "Disk Cleanup" on my old XP you first identified what was not necessary, then clicked on OK and then click YES if you want to "perform these actions."

We recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.

Disk Cleanup is anything but after 'OK', you will be asked if you want to "permanently delete these files. Without thinking, it's that I did.

Now I'm in a panic. I remember only one of these files... ». Windows Defender' but there is others.   I did something catastrophic?

    I'm 77. It's my wife's PC. I will reach 80?

    Hello

Please do not panic. There are slight changes in Windows 8 compared to Windows XP.

Disk Cleanup to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your drives, which can help your PC run faster. It can remove temporary files and system files, empty the trash and remove a variety of other items that you might need is no longer.

The icon for the disk cleanup can normally select "Run as Administrator" (see attached # 1 screen capture).

Several weeks a go something changed and I have a different icon on the user accounts only (screenshot # 2). This icon has no "Run as Administrator".

    Questions: 1) what happened?

    (2) how back to the original icon, with its choice of how to perform the cleanup?

The original icon is still available on the Office of the Admin account.

You are welcome.  I discovered what was the second icon.  This is a link to the section of the control panel "Performance Information and Tools" and more specifically in the link for disk cleanup in this section of the control panel.  Shortcuts to control panel are not quite the same shortcuts to 'normal' executable files, which is probably why there was no option "Run as administrator".

It is a partial screen shot of the results to type 'clean' in the start > Search box (I have no idea why the first 6 items under 'Control Panel' were found by a search for 'clean'):

    And it's control panel, section-->

I tried to run the cleaning disc for hours now, but it does not work.

I tried to launch it from the search for "Disk Cleanup" and cmd in file Explorer, but none of them work.
When I click on it if it goes to the popup with different readers after I click OK nothing happens.  It does not show compress older files or anything like that.
Any help is very appreciated, I am really pulling my hair out because I need to remove a windows.old file because my SSD becomes full.

    Hello

Please answer a few questions to refine the question.

    1. have you already try to launch the program from "Administrative Tools" in the control panel?

    2. you have any third party such as registry cleaning software, CCleaner etc. ?

    3. have you recently upgraded to Windows 8?

I suggest you to start cleaning disc by right-clicking and selecting 'Run as administrator' to see if it helps.

If the problem persists, you can start the computer in safe mode and check if it works or not.

  • Boxes which must be checked on with Windows Vista disk cleanup?

I can't find anywhere if there is a default value for the disk cleanup in Windows Vista. I have these two, I've never seen before and I don't know if I should check them or not. They are by the Windows error reporting archived user and system archived Windows Error reporting. These are files used for error reporting and solution checking.  I CHECK THESE FOR MORE DISK SPACE?

Yes. Look in Control Panel select Problem Reports and Solutions (type
problem in the START search box), technologically, that's what you remove.

  • Disk Cleanup is not showing me the ability to clean the system error memory dump files

Hello. When I run the disk cleanup utility in Vista, it does not show the option of cleaning the system error memory dump files. It is a very serious problem. I had to delete files that I really wanted to keep, because I thought they were taking too much space. He did not make a particle of difference. I have only two GB on my C drive now. How to fix this problem?

    Kim

You must use the scroll bar on the right disk cleanup in the window that appears after checking for space to scroll to check the boxes before these items.

Deleting the less important system restore points allows you to earn useful free disk space.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner also comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.
