Disk Cleanup tool does not not on Windows 7

* The original title: Disk Cleanup tool hung

I am trying to run the disk on a Windows 7 system cleanup tool and it takes forever!  It seems to be to calculate the amount of space will be freed up. I had read somewhere that long time may be due to the compression of the files before calculating the free space. If this is the case, how can I disable file compression in this tool?

Found that if you let this race long enough, it will end.

How to compress old files? When I run Disk Cleanup, the compress old files is checked, but the cleaning does not remove the 13, 464KO here. How can I get rid of this?

    Hello

    http://www.ehow.com/facts_6010913_can-old-files-disk-cleanup_.html

    Compress old files

    • This option, which is the only option that does not remove the files, compresses the files on the operating system that have not been consulted after a certain period of time. The files are not deleted, but simply compressed into a smaller size since they are not used and are accessible by the operating system if they are needed once more.

  • When running Disk Cleanup, it does not remove anything to "Compress Old Files'.

When I run my disk cleanup, it does not remove anything to "Compress Old Files' during cleaning.» Why not? I also need more disk space to defragment and I deleted all the programs that I don't use, but is not yet give me enough disk space.

Compress old files not removes all files, compress files that are rarely or seldom used.

If you get the low disk space, less than 15-20% free space, then you need to collect as much space as possible. However, the amount you get will not be a solution, only a temporary fix - it that.

To add or remove programs and Windows components in Control Panel, you can uninstall programs as your plue no use - if you have. Not to be far uninstalling programs, you do not recognize, many elements are required for other programs work properly.

You can also check to see how much space is reserved for the restoration of the system; by default, many GBs are usually reserved. Also disable hibernation as the file created can be 2-3 GB, sometimes even more.

You must also consider moving your files and folders on a removable media, such as DVDs or an external hard drive. Still a great flash drive with 4 + GB of space can help, and their prices are reasonable these days.

In addition to Disk Cleaner, you can consider running CCleaner. This is a free program that will remove the unnecessary and temporary files temporary Internet files of the most popular and many browsers other caches that can be cleaned safely.

Since you are using Windows XP, there is a setting in CCleaner to remove the uninstallers of patches; These are the Windows Update files you've downloaded and installed over time and are there if you ever want to uninstall the update. But you can save these CD/DVD and then remove them safely from your system to recover the space. If you have ever removed one of these, you may be able to get beyond 1 GB of space.

If you decide to try it, by default, that almost everything in Windows Applications and is verified to be cleaned. You must first review the lists (they are compiled by what you have installed) and check/uncheck accordingly.

Then click on analyze to see what will be removed (nothing is deleted when you click Analyze); When the scan is finished you can double-click on (or right click and select view detailed results) of the entries in the list to get more information.

According to the detailed results, you can right click for options such as adding to the list of exclusions if you want the deleted item.

Once that you are completely comfortable with your selections, you can click the run Cleaner button and then OK to put warn before vacuuming will run.

CCleaner is also a registry cleaner that I don't recommend that you use - even if you have successfully run a registry cleaner in the past, it is quite possible that the next time will bring serious problems; they are not worth the risk...

I know that this was not the miracle that you can have hoped, but personally recommended solution is a new, larger hard drive. In the case of desktop computers, an additional hard disk is useful for your personal files, especially for music, movies, photos and more.

  • Disk Cleanup file does not remove...

When running Disk Cleanup (Vista 32 bit) it the next file is shown in "Downloaded program files".

It presents in the form of bytes 'Zéro' and has status 'damaged' against it. Cleaning never take it off.
If I found the file in C:\Windows\Downloaded program files, the only action available is 'properties' that appears under the "dependency" three files that depend on the above, two are "C:\Program files\... damaged, and one that says"Windows system 32\ATL. " "DLL."

He has no problems with the PC... only that file which is displayed.

Google throws up a lot of hits too, that's the problem here,
     http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic277940.html

I wonder if it's just a thing of Windows and is not really a problem at all.

Last update on this... My intuition seems correct. This issue seems to occur when you install Adobe Reader 9 and remove the 108 MB folder that he left behind him on the desk. I proved it by using a disk image (Acronis) of Vista fully updated, but no drive on your computer. Install Reader 9 and all is OK... remove this folder and the problem appears.
I studied this "folder" in time and the general opinion (even on the Adobe site) was just to delete. And that causes this problem of damaged file.

A new feature has been added to cleaning disc in October 2013, which is not available in cCleaner. You must change the existing settings to take advantage of the new feature. Type Disk Cleanup in the search above the Start button box and press ENTER. Click OK and after the calculation of space, you will see a window with a list of files to delete. Use the right-hand scroll bar to see the entries hidden further down the list. Check the boxes in front of the backup of the Service Pack files and cleaning of Windows Update and click OK you will see savings every time after Windows has been updated, but they are not as important when it is run after the first time. You must restart the computer to complete the process.

  • Windows7-USB-DVD-tool does not have a Microsoft Windows XP/SP3 ISO

I am trying to create a bootable USB key to reinstall Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on my laptop Dell Latitude D820 that seems to have a CD player fault. I used a Microsoft technet subscription to download the ISO of Windows XP with SP3. I downloaded and installed Windows XP with SP3 Windows7-USB-DVD-tool but when I select the ISO file, Windows7-USB-DVD-tool tells me that this is not a valid ISO file. I'm guessing that Windows7-USB-DVD-tool is designed to install only the ISO files that have been purchased via the Microsoft Store, which is the case, I downloaded Windows7-USB-DVD-tool of.

I've tried other tools and programs to create a bootable USB key with the ISO image, but the USB resulting either don't start completely or the tool used a format boot of Linux which does not the Windows Installer to run.

    Hello

The tool seems to work only with some ISOs, so I suggest you try to download a Windows ISO from one different location other than TechNet.

    Hope this information helps.

  • The cutting tool does not work after windows updates.

I read answers to similar questions about the failure of the cutting tool.  I use the tool cutting regularly and I think it's a fantastic tool in Windows. I have Vista Ultimate and all my windows updates have managed: none were not installed correctly, and I did not install new programs or hardware.  It seems that Microsoft knows the snipping tool does not - why can't they simply provide an update patch to correct the problem, rather than make us do all the work.  I don't have to go through hoops of restorations etc to get something it seems work was broken by updates.  I'm about to go to a Mac.

It worked for me! Thank you!

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

    -

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

    -

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and make it regular periodic updates.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
