Disk D: partition

The partition of my D: drive has only 2 GB of free space (12 GB total).  How clean this up?  The partition of my drive C: has 268 free GB of GB 454.  My machine is a HP Pavilion KZ755AA-ABU s3552.uk with a basic core of 4.0.

harveyliz wrote: I just need to know if I will run out of space in the D: partition.  Would it not 80% full?  Can I clean it?

Hello harveyliz, the D: partition should be left alone and not using it to store all data on it or use it for all backups.

As I mentioned earlier, this partition D: should only be used as the HP Recovery partition restore, and if you add data, restore HP Recovery may not work if you ever needed to restore your system to factory State.

The 80% used capacity would be a normal use of this partition. Because there should be no other data added to this partition, you should not see the ability to shrink.

    Hello

The HARD disk is partitioned and contains two partitions. The C partition is the system partition that contains the Windows operating system. The second D partition contains data drive HARD recovery.
HARD drive recovery allows you to establish the notebook back to factory settings without the recovery disk usage.

But it s is strongly recommended to create the recovery disk! The user manual provides the info on that in case something goes wrong with the HARD drive, the recovery disk allows you to recover the laptop.

Of course, you can delete the D partition if you want to, but before doing so, you must create the recovery disk.

However, my HARD drive contains 3 partitions. I created an extra. In my case, the C partition contains only system and the unique software. My files private like Mp3, movies, etc. are placed on the D second partition).
The third partition (E) contains a folder with games.

  • Cannot install Windows on disk 0 partition 1

Hi, I replaced my hard drive on my laptop, the new hard drive is empty and I want to install windows 7 on it, but I get the error windows cannot install on disk 0 partition 1, I can't format, install windows on it or anything.

If the two different versions of window will not complete a format, your hard drive is "defective".

    You should check that:

    (1) the hard drive can be used for a Windows startup disk.  Generally hard less than 2 TB can be used properly.

    (2) find the hard drive diagnostic tests, the hard training web site of the manufacturer and follow the signs to test your hard drive.

    3) search your computer / web site of the manufacturer of the motherboard for a BIOS update.  There could be a 'solution' that could fix your current problem.

You can buy a new drive hard so as to "bypass" the 'steps' to solve the problems of hard drive.

  • Is it necessary to have Disk 0 Partition 1 system reserved?

    Hi all

Is it necessary to have Disk 0 Partition 1 system reserved?

I'm not bothered all the 100 MB you need - there is nothing to me. But it removes a single partition, leaving me to settle for only 3 more to leave. I have a plan to install another OS in my system with Windows 7, it really frustrates my plan.

In fact, I want 2 partitions for Windows and for Linux 2. But Windows consumes 3 partitions (including for reserved system), leaving me finally with 1 single partition for Linux.

There are also a few ways mentioned elsewhere how to get rid of this partition 1 by extending it to a primary partition, but then there is no mention if that would be detrimental to my computer or at least start.

    To answer these questions...

No you can remove it if necessary

First step 1, there is no way to simply delete this partition of 100MB in Windows 7; Simply reformat. So the first step is to back up your data and start the Windows 7 installation CD. (To boot from a CD, restart your computer, and normally it will be DEL, F12 or ESC key to select the CD-ROM drive and starts to him)
Step 2 once you're up to the screen of Windows 7, you need to select the option "repair your computer".
Step 3 next, you will need to select "Command Prompt".
Step 4 in command prompt we will reformat your hard drive in a certain way so the 2nd partition is not automatically created when you install Windows 7. Here are the commands:

    DiskPart
List Disk (you may have more than one hard drive)
Select disk 0 (by default your boot drive primary disk 0 will be, check it out)
    Clean
    Create Primary Partition
    Select Partition 1
    Assets
    Format FS = NTFS quick
    Output
Step 5, then simply cross install Windows 7 as you normally would. This time, the installation program does not create the 100 MB hidden partition reserved.

  • Satellite L850 - how to replace a HARD disk recovery partition?

    Hello.

Toshiba laptop Satellite L850. PSKDGA-02Y012. The original HARD drive has failed in his colleagues even mobile, so we replaced the two HARD drive after you have created a recovery USB. When used to restore the operating system to original status of OOB.
That has worked and portable runs much, but now I want to BACK the recovery partition (now only on the USB I think) for the new HARD drive.

Simple to shrink the disk HARD C: (partition 2) on the HARD disk, but then how to transfer twhats on the USB (USB recovery stick) back on the HARD drive?

    Thanks for any help.

    Karim...

    Hello karim

When you buy the notebook you will get it with preinstalled operating system (recovery image). Original recovery image is saved on the HARD disk on the recovery partition.
Each owner of the laptop has option to make the backup recovery image and create recovery media. It could be the DVD or USB support. You can do this by using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool.
This tool will create bootable recovery media that can be used for the installation of original image recovery if there is problem with the installation of image disk HARD recovery or when the drive is defective and must be replaced.

Where the HARD drive is faulty and should be replaced or the owner of the laptop to upgrade HARD drive, you can install original image created using recovery recovery media (USB). After installing recovery image, you will have the same situation as for the first boot after the purchase of the laptop. With other words notebook will have factory settings again.

In this case original recovery image is already copied onto the new HARD drive and you will also be able to start the installation of HARD drive recovery. There is therefore no reason to copy a recovery on HARD drive media.
Please note: installation of HARD drive recovery works with the factory only settings.

If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

    Good luck.

  • Re: Is it possible to use the 2nd disk recovery partition?

    Hi all

My question is as the title suggests. Basically, I am planning to install an SSD as drive and use my Player Toshiba of origin as in WEIRD secondary car with an adapter. My concern is will I be able to use the recovery of the second drive partition and if I ever need to return to the State of out-of-box will it format and install everything on my SSD or the original HARD drive?

BTW, my laptop is L755-1 DR.

    Thank you
    DJ_TLG

I can't say for sure but I'm 99.9999% sure that this will not work. When you change the hardware platform (SSD and HDD) HARD disk recovery Wizard will not be able to find the image of recovery due to lack of specific markers.

Create the restore DVD disc and the problem is solved. Of course do this with original laptop hardware configuration and factory settings.

  • Recovery disk restore partitions as factory settings?

My laptop is about 2 to 3 years of age and has 3 partitions, C, D and E as factory put in place.
I found that the system (C) partition is now almost full and cannot be extended because the D drive is in the way to rehabilitate the part of drive E.

Does anyone know if the hot spare will restore the partitions in the form of factory settings or y at - it an option to change the score put in place during installation?

    Hey Buddy

Yes. As far as I know the Toshiba Recovery disk format the whole HARD drive and retrieves the laptop back to factory settings.
This means that the whole HARD disk would have first formatted and all partitions would be deleted. Then the recovery disk creates the partitions again and installs the operating system and other things like tools and drivers.

    See you soon

How can I solve the problem? Urgent, I'm wanting to create a picture of the system of fees before I use more my M7.

    Hello

I had a similar problem, create a second partition with partition magic.
After a long time of investigation, I found the right solution
The magic of the scores could not create the second partition because the files on the HARD disk are not defragmented.

First I ran chckdsk and after restarting again, I defragmented the HARD drive.
    It's a key!

  • Satellite L500 - hard disk drive partitioning

    Hi all (first posting times)

I came across a little curiosity. Bought new laptop everything installed, then loaded into all the previous laptop backup files, brilliant all work...
But then noticed was running out of space on the hard disk (drive C)?

Why? It is a 500 GB hard drive. So I checked. Its actually a HDD 500 gig, divided into two, also. OK, understand that, first partition is C: for all files of system etc, there is d: recovery of files (using about 8 gig) then nothing else... what a mess.

So the question, can I do the largest C: drive by reducing the D: partition? If NOT, it would make more sense then just make another partition E: for example?

Oooh and I will make the recovery of files from damage by doing this.

All your advice much appreciated kind.

If it is not broken... your cheek is not hard enough *.

Why are you doing this so complicated? HARD drive has two partitions, and you can use all that space. Toshiba has saved the recovery image of HARD drive on the second partition, but this does not mean that you are not allowed to save your data there. You can do but just don't touch or change folder HDDRecovery. Just leave it there, or make it invisible.

This file can be used later for the installation of HARD disk image - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
    Imagine the following situation:
You save all your stuff on the C partition and one day for some reason you cannot boot OS and it is completely unusable. What you can do? Maybe install OS again. OK good idea, but you will lose all your important data.

In order to better is to save all the stuff on the D partition, and if something goes wrong, you can install OS using HARD drive recovery facility. This means that C partition will be formatted and clean the OS installed on it by using the image of the D partition. The point is that any data saved to the D partition will be there and you won't lose anything.

If you want to install the OS via recovery DVD (hopefully you have created the) the whole HARD drive will be formatted and you will lose all saved data.
I hope you understand now how it works then think of all the important data and save it as with certain external devices too.

  • Drag and drop on the same disk, same partition hours. Why and how to fix it?

    Hello

My computer crashed and I put the files saved on the disk. Slide it / move files adobe is 500 GB and taken a few hours to complete. Drag and Drop that into a subfolder in this directory, the system tells me that it will take even more time to copy. Why? What it means.

Two things you need to know:

    (1) the system hangs usually about all six months requiring a clean install.

    (2) this time I portioned disk, put the operating system on the partition of 500 GB and put the data files on the other half of the partition to see what happens the next time it crashes - and it will eventually crash. (I want to know if everything is damaged remains on the side with the operating system or if it affects the entire drive.)

All other files seem to drag / move very well, it is precisely those specific files of photographs. Any suggestions? This allusion to a problem not diagnosed with the disc? Is it because I partitioned the HD?

  • Disk GUID partition? and the new disk utility

The new disk utility Version 15.0 delivered with El Capitan, differs from earlier versions of disk utility.

Most will have noticed the absence of the utility to fix permissions.

However, check the type of disc format is a little more difficult and well.

The player must be selected, and then the information button must be selected.

Then, you must look at the "File System" line to see whether or not it is OS X Extended.

Then you look at the line "Logged" to see if it is 'yes' or a 'no '.

How do we know if it's a GUID partition or a utility with the new APM partition?

Sorry to contradict you, but general information about the disks are always where they used to be

  • UNABLE to get the drive letter of the disk 0 Partition 1

    Hello world.

Well, yesterday I tried to install Ubuntu netbook edition 10.10. Well, in the middle of something was wrong and it corrupted the Windows partition. Linux is installed, but Windows is damaged.
I'm on a Gateway laptop, and I have a recovery disk. The thing is when I try to boot from the disc, it says Windows is loading files... and then it opens with an error message saying fail to get the drive letter of the Partition 1 of disk 0. When I turn on the computer, I present a selection of software Ubuntu and Windows Vista loader option. If I choose that, it would open a window of system repair and th other options. I passed by them and tried to recover my pc from the recovery disc. However, none of them worked. I chose the option to Scan drive for errors, and you are prompted to restart my pc. I did, but now, if I select the Windows Vista loader it comes with a long error message.
In the Linux file browser, C:\ is now called PQSERVICE, but he's not normal Windows OS files.
The thing I would ask is; How I completely erase my hard drive, reset the partitions and reinstall windows from my recovery disc? I have no special programs or documents that I need to backup, I all recorded them on a portable hard drive. Also, I can reinstall Linux (rightly) with no dramas.
PS. I have a drive to upgrade Vista to Windows 7. I have not yet tried, but if I inserted that and tried to boot my computer from that, would that work?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello

    1. can you give us the long error message?

The recovery disc can be used to restore the computer to factory settings and I suggest you best computer manufacturer contact to get help for the same.

Also, we cannot use a Windows 7 upgrade disk to perform a clean installation.
