DiskGroup resize

Hi all

Is it possible to resize a diskgroup after that that he has been creates and configures a database?

for example, I have a DGDATA1 with 800 GB diskgroup. Is it possible to release 200GB of DGDATA1 and create a small another diskgroup DGDATA2 use of space 200 GB realeased?

Thank you

KZ

Hello

If you have multiple disks mounted in the diskgroup is easy. Let's say that you have 4 disks with 200 GB, so you can drop one of the drives out of the group. ASM will rebalance the data on the other 3 drives in the group, and then release the disc. The disk can be reused in a smaller diskgroup.

If the 800 GB are a single disk/LUN, you must add a new 600 GB drive to the Group asm and file already exists. ASM will pass the data from the old to the new drive during the operation. Skinning the large 800 GB drive into smaller fractions would be the next step before creating a new smaller group.

I understand what you say, I have created a disk of asm with 500 MB of size using asmtool, so I can't resize using asm instance.

    1. What is the use of asmtool-added option, we can add an existing using this command drive space?

This isn't for adding space, but it adds the label to the disk partition...
    asmtool - add \Device\Harddisk1\Partition1 ORCLDISKASM0
    >

2 can you please explain this more, * it could be increased if you already held 300 total asm 500 disk space *?

Think like OS, you have created a 10 GB partition for disk D:\ example. And now, you create files/folders with size of hugh (as some movies ;)) to drive D:\, so eventually your drive D:\ will fill. This is the case even with your asm disk, once you have used all your available space of the asm disk (that you created through asmtoll), you can not increase.
By asmtool - create D:\Asm_disks\disk3 500, you assign the total size to 300 from the asm disk. Just as you add 10 GB partition for OS...

You come to the backup from my point of view: it could be increased if you already worked 300 asm disk space total 500

I have created the disk with the following text:
    asmtool - create 500 D:\Asm_disks\disk3 > size is 500

    I create diskgroup with
SQL > create diskgroup DB 'D:\Asm_disks\disk3' size disc 300; > Here I wll use only max 300 size of 500 total. So once I get to the threshold of 300, I can increase the asm disk up to 500.
    As
SQL > alter diskgroup DB resizing disk "D:\Asm_disks\disk3' size 500; > Increasing up to 500

Default if the clause you SIZE omit while creating a diskgroup, asm then disc occupies all the available space of the device that you have created by asmtool

    >

    3. What is meant occupation here, not here where we can control the right of occupancy?

We can control as I explained.

  • ASM external redundancy and the number of disks

    Hello

We are about to install a solution RAC on IBM AIX 5.3 LPAR and VIO.
According to Oracle certification, we are forced to use DSO (11 g) for storage.
Because we have a huge SAN solution for all our systems, also the installation of the DSO will run on the SAN
The complete SAN is in a RAID5 or RAID10 configuration. This automatically means that we will use external redundancy
The database that will be placed on the system is currently around 50 GB in size.

Now that you guys and women think how to set start, if

    one)
We set up initially only 1 disc in the diskgroup to 60 GB for example,
ASM does support the ability to increase a logical disk, because we are currently used, using the VIO Server?
If it is not supported there so if the diskgroup needs to be extended, add another disk the same size, or we can add disks with smaller sizes

    (b)
We set up initially more discs of small size in the diskgroup, making a total of 60 GB
ASM will probably begin the distribution of the data on the three disks.
    Overhead that does?
That this has a negative impact, because the three logical drives are already in a striped solution (RAID10)?

(If the extension of the logical drive using the VIO in Setup a) only supported, automatically end up in b).
But I would like to know head/experiences and advice.

    Thanks in advance

You can increase the size of the logical unit number, which is a Member
ASM diskgroup, after that, to increase
the disk partition of this LUN to cover the new size of this LUN,
and the last step is to tell ASM this member disk has been resized
    "alter diskgroup resizing disk.

  • resize the disk/diskgroup LUN and asm

    Happy new year to all.

I have a little problem of resizing an ASM diskgroup and maybe someone here can help me.

I had a lun with size 50G and added on a disk called LUN1D1 asm.
Then I created a DISKGROUP called data1 Witch (external) contain some LUN1D1.
Data1 is then conducted asm volume. So I have a volume of asm with size 50G and I need 100 g.

Now, I have increased the size of the lun with 50 G (100G in total). I rescaned the LUN and os see the new size.

The problem is that I can't resize DISKGROUP data1 or disk LUN1D1.

  • Resize diskgroup member of smaller size

    Hi all!

I have a variable size of members diskgroup in my DATA diskgroup (I know it's a bad habit, but it could not be avoided).

One of these starts is 100% full and a rebalancing will not work because the space is exausted - even though I have 750 GB of free space on the other members of diskgroup in the diskgroup himself.

I moved all the diskgroup I can, but cannot move the remaining files (partitioned table with LOB that can not be moved due to a bug. The SHRINK SPACE command fails also due to compression on the LOB of the table and the compression may be withdrawn because of a bug. Nice, huh...)

I wonder if it is possible to RESIZE the Member 100% full diskgroup a smaller size, which requires a rebalancing on the available disks. Then once the resizing is finished, then resize the diskgroup Member, I shrunk only if she has free space and then do another re-balancing to distribute the data again.

If someone has never resized Member diskgroup below the size already allocated, and done a job without loss of data or cause problems.

Thanks in advance for any idea or help.

  • Resize the space Oracle ASM

    Hello

My use of oracle ASM database, I use the storage of DATA (data files and Archives...). my storage autour to be complete, so I want to add the new storage space (new hard disks).

So my question... on the side DBA is, something needs to be done? new hard drive then added to the disk group as fdisk? or the space will automatically be added to the total space?

My storage admin told me that it can re-size space on its side without doing anything on my side as a DBA, a problem this way? again is the same as for an old hard drive.

    Please advice,

    Kind regards
    Awad Awad

    There are two options.

    1. your store admin can expand a LUN, and then you can resize the ASM drive in the extra space.
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmdiskgrps.htm#sthref282

    2. your store admin can give you another logic unit number. When you add this logic unit number to a diskgroup, ASM will automatically use and therefore to increase the size of the diskgroup.

My preference is #2. It of less work and less risk.

  • DataFile resizing is not that simple. Is it?

Let me recap: in my 32 GB datafile that was almost complete once has only 56 MB of a data value now. But I can resize my file of data only up to 28 GB! It is a waste of space in our disk group. Is there a solution?

You can't free up space from a data file before the last object allocated in the file. So if you deleted the user whose objects Indians ate most all extensions allocated in the tablespace you need to do before you try to shring file is to move all remaining allocated objects for the data file. Alter table move and orders to alter index rebuild can be used for most tables/indexes to perform this task. For changing tables on which table move is not legal, i.e., tables with columns long or long raw, you can export, drop and import tables to reallocate them forward logic of the file.

  • The ASM diskgroup in exadata space question

    All,

I have an environment exadata 1 CCR node with 3 knots of strorage.

My RECO ASM diskgroup is constantly showing the problems of space... Always higher than 80%.

I just want to get a Board if I can remove mirroring and recover the space... Even though I know that the result of the deletion of the mirroring...

Can I reduce the diskgroup RECO and create an another diskgroup?

I want just a few ideas to do this without great risk involved...

You may want to consider these MOS notes for more information on resizing the griddisks:
Resize diskgroup without downtime to Exadata (Doc ID 1272569.1)
How to resize the disk drive/grid ASM in environment Exadata (Doc ID 1245494.1)

As others have mentioned, there is no way to change the level of redundancy in ASM, so you need to delete and re-create the diskgroup if you want to change to redundancy. We strongly discourage the use of EXTERNAL with Exadata redundancy.

  • partition boot camp disappeared after resizing Macintosh HD

    Hello

I have a macbook pro with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

I had a windows 8.1 installed on boot camp and ran out of space on windows, so I tried to extend the space by adding a new partition on mac and then merge on windows using the "minitool' but when I rebooted with now that the ALT key was not the boot camp partition...

I then started the mac and changed the boot disk in boot camp and restarted and it gave me a message "there is no disk bootable..." or something like that.

It's really important not to lose the windows and more important still do not have to format the new laptop please (because I had a similar problem before Re: Partitioning a Hard Drive Error on MacBook Pro)

I tried to check for similar discussions but seemed to I'll do it is harder to resolve because I do not understand most of what is said and was afraid to do worse.

    Hello MayMedhat,

I understand the partition Boot Camp have been adjusted and you are no longer able to access the windows on your MacBook Pro.  Because you cannot access side Windows of your Mac after setting, you must recreate your Boot Camp partition and reinstall Windows on your Mac.

Set up Windows on your Mac partition

Change the size of the partition

It is not possible to change the size of the partition after installing Windows, but you can delete the partition and create a new partition to the correct size. Do not try to resize your Windows partition or a third-party application.
