Display problem Satellite P20 S203

my black screen blue and it flashes. There is a flashing yellow light in the white pages. Update nvidia does, but nothing has changed. Does anyone know what should I do?

Hello

you update your Satellite P20 S203 with a Toshiba homepage https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com nvidia driver or did you download the driver directly from nvidia?

And which version of the driver is installed (can be seen in the details of the Control Panel - System - Manager of advice - Grafikcard - driver)?

    Hello

In the last month my Satellite P20 S203 does so well, and unfortunately it seems that the problem is a hardware one (but I'm not sure, and that's why I'm writing here)

The computer just stops suddenly (it happened 2 or 3 times in the last 30 days); every time it happened I was on the web on Firefox, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it, and I'm also 99% sure that this is not a virus, malware or something like that, cause I formatted there are 3 months and nothing else behave in a strange way, the computer is slow or something like that.

The last two options are that the question can be of a physical nature, or a software (as a conflict between the operating system and installed programs); I'm more to the first, but I do not know and I need assistance to find out... What should I do?

In addition, when it stops suddenly, it won't turn with the first try.
He needs like 10 or 20 times to open like an old car that won't start; the first, say, 5 times I try to turn it on, it appears only the toshiba logo.
It then passes through a screen, I can not read because it goes too fast.

Then a black screen, then it turns off again.
With the next try that it goes a bit further, as it displays the windows logo, but as this image is fading, it stops halfway through the fading process, resulting in a darker windows logo, as it is too difficult for her to load the OS!

But then it turns off again!

Then after a few other attempts it finally loads windows.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

    Hello

Maybe the laptop stops due to a higher internal temperature.
High temperature leads to an overheating of the questions and the laptop would be stops down automatically to prevent the equipment from damage.
The other point is that the high temperature may affect the RAM modules.
In this case the laptop computer may freeze or you will receive a Blue Screen Of Death.

I had a similar problem in the past. About 6 years ago my first oldie started to overheat.
I cleaned the cooling modules, but the questions again.
Finally, I contacted the laptop technician in downtown, and he said that the thermal grease that is placed between the cooling module and the CPU must be renewed.

    He did, and it helped!

  • Satellite P20 S203: update BIOS after version 1.70

Hello! I have a Satellite P20 - S203 BIOS is Ver1.70, published on 20/11/2003. I think there pretty outdated now, but there has been no new versions for years and I think that this great computer, despite the old, should be more supported. What I don't understand is why they made an exit for the PSP23E and not for the PSP20E, that make the differences that they should deserve to be updated bios different?

Does anyone of you know about BIOS versions after 1.70 which allow the laptop to boot from SD cards or removable media? And that the problems of the management of multiple USB devices?
    Thank you

    Hello

I use P20 over two years, without any update of the BIOS. If your device works well I recommend you to leave. Boot from the SD card is not possible and update the BIOS will not allow this.

What problem do you have with the USB devices?

  • Satellite P20 S203 does not recognize my additional 1 GB memory

    Hi all

My computer (Satellite P20 S203) does not recognize my second Bank of memory (1 GB). I have two banks of memory of 1 GB installed. BIOS reports only 1 GB, Windows reports that 1 GB and my Linux so he says only 1 GB of memory. I removed each Bank of memory and restarted the computer successfully in each of the two slots, No Problem, but when the two banks of memory are inserted, it always uses only 1 GB. My BIOS is on version 2.10:

BIOS is the PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0

I know it's an old computer (about 10 years), but what could cause such a problem?

Thanks a lot for any advice or suggestions!

    Kind regards

    Hi fuegi_1,

    The upgrade modules, bought exactly?

To me it sounds like that it s a compatibility problem or your computer laptop doesn't support 2 GB.

If you use two memory modules, you must only use two modules of the same production.

  • Satellite P20 S203 - where can I get the cover external big screen?

    Hi all

Anyone know where to find an outer cover of the big screen Satellite P20 S203?

I broke it because I disassembled all the pc some time ago, and as I can see now that I took out the black cover around the screen. I forgot to screw the 2 screws on the hinges that make it able to open and close. It is only broken on one of the screens, hinges, so the pc is still usable, with appropriate caution, I can still open and close, but sooner or later, I think that the other will be too broke, opening and closing of the screen all the time, so I have to replace it
    .
    Hope someone can help me.
    Good bye

    Hello

I'm not sure what cover you mean exactly, but you can get all the spare parts to an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba page, you can find a list of them.

You must only contact them by phone, for example. Explain the situation and maybe they can send you a new cover.

    Welcome them

    Hello

You need to buy a compatible player!
Not all slim drives are compatible due to different master slave / parameters c - salt!

Generally, your user manual must contain a list of compatible drives.
If you have no user manual to use this device, then you can download it here:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/-> support downloads & -> Toshiba operating manual

Here, you have to choose Archive as first option!

On the other hand, you could get in touch with a local ASP from Toshiba.
Guys might provide a good information on the supported disc!

My laptop has 32 MB graphics card I was wondering how I would improve my Vram to 64. What I do how would be, where would it be and what I have to install?

    Thank you

To my knowledge, the Satellite P20 S203 was delivered with a nVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 32 MB of video ram. But this isn't a shared memory graphics card!
In this case, you cannot change the settings of video ram.

In addition he s is not possible to upgrade or replace the graphics card. Unfortunately, there is nothing to see ;(

    Hello Martin

On this forum I found some interesting topics on ODD on Satellite P20 replacement. It seems that the drive TEAC DV-W22E is perfect for replacing ODD. It is STRANGE DVD - RAM and you will have a DVD burner with function of RAM.

Google around a bit and find info on prices.

  • Satellite P20 S203 internal bluetooth

    Hello

I just checked under the modem Board in my P20 S203 and it is necessary to install an internal bluetooth card. It needs to connect to the motherboard via a ribbon cable as the module bluetooth for the M200 series. However, I can't find the exact reference for my computer anywhere...

In addition, there are some P20 computers that already come with internal bluetooth installed. Reference that applies to my computer? I already have a bluetooth SD card 2 and I'm always afraid that I break or lose...

    Kind regards
    Fernando Birra

    Hello

I do not understand why you do not use your SD Bluetooth card. If you have problems with the small parts buy the cotyledon. :)

Bluetooth PC Card (TDK) seems to be appropriate for your laptop. The information you will find under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Products > Options & Accessories > Communications. Part number is PX1086E-1PCC.

In the games like Doom3, I see only a chequer (Exchequer) with black, the blind, the tasks of rectangle. I tried to update the graphics driver, but the results were the same. Also, I noticed the same thing happens when I'm trying to change something in the BIOS. Maby some of you have had a problem like this, please help.

    Hello

Believe me on this path is not easy to say what may be the problem. The explanation of your problem is good, but it will be interesting to see what you mean exactly.

One of my friends has M60 and I didn't see any display problem on his unit. If the unit is installed with recovery media that produced with other applications, watch DVDs or simply with 3D CAD program?

It will also be interesting to know what you exactly changed in the BIOS.

  • Satellite P20 - S203: want to replace defective keyboard

    Hi all
Happy new year to all. I need to replace my keyboard because of lost keys. Anyone know where I can get a manual that shows how to do this? Congratulations in advance.

    Concerning
    Dave

    Hello

Well, I don t found any documents concerning the keyboard replacement procedure.
But as far as I know to remove the keyboard, you must first remove the battery. You need to remove a strip that is placed at the top of the keyboard.
You will find 2 screws which fix the keyboard. Remove the screws, then lift the keyboard and unplug the cable.

Please note: If you open Notepad (keyboard) you will lose the warranty! In this case, you must contact the ASP. Be careful.

  • Some suggestions for a hardware upgrade on P20 S203

Hi, I upgraded my satellite P20 S203 because I now have a untimely budget of 500 euros.
I would just have a few suggestions.
First of all: it's crazy to think about changing the motherboard? And if it seems not too crazy, one of which (obviously to toshiba, because it must harmonize perfectly with all of the equipment, or if you know another name that would go well in the laptop...).
Second, a REAL soundcard with line of external references in & out (yes I play guitar... :-))), any suggestion is welcome, even if I already have a few names in my mind.
Thirdly, a wireless card, this model had a place dedicated... my thought woul be obviously for a toshiba, you think? I should any problem if I chose the 100 Mbit/s, one?
Oh, I hope you will help me decide... any personal experience on the upgrade of this model is really welcome.
    Thank you
    See you soon

    Hello Nerd,

You can only change a few things on a laptop, such as the memory or HARD drive. A laptop is not a desktop computer. Most of the components are designed for a single model and they do not fit in any other model.

So, I am sorry to say that you can't improve your mother and sound card.

But you can put a wireless card in your laptop.
    Standard WiFi 802. 11 b
The best way is to buy from a Toshiba service partner. Here you get the right card.

    Hope this has been helpful.

    Good bye

I would get an internal wifi card for P20 - 203 my father - I read here: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=61202 - the slot takes a mini PCI - does that mean this Yellowtail should work or do we need the "Toshiba" one?

    Hello

Satellite P20 S203 is certainly Wi - Fi level and according to the specification of Toshiba (at this time), you can use two compatible WIFI adapters:
    Wireless LAN card PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802. 11b) and PA3273U-2MPC (Atheros 802.11ab).

The card you want to use is new product, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. Just try everything and if there is a problem of compatibility you can return.
