Display Tecra S1 problems

Hi guys and girls.

Looking for assistance or technical advice regarding Tecra S1 my nephew who had a problem of unusual screen for a few weeks.

The laptop was working fine until about 6 weeks ago, when all of a sudden, the screen could not operate on initialize toward the top. The exact symptoms are the following:

1 screen comes with black (power off of the State) to a dark gray on startup reported no beeps at startup. Indicating that light was operational?

2. external monitor has been attached and portable started with photo as usual. However, the photo could not be changed between laptop and external monitor via "Fn" + "F5" key and laptop screen just went to dull grey screen as mentioned previously.

3 battery has been taken out and replaced after awhile. Power Pack was plugged into the laptop. Still no splash screen.

The laptop was then left for a few weeks and I started to study further today. On booting, I found that the battery was dead, then insert the power supply charger to find... the laptop booted up on the first screen!

This could be purely a matter of Ribbon display? I am aware that the ribbons in most laptops can be affected due to running through them the hinge connecting the main body and showcase.

Thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

It could just be a bad connection tight behind the screen, reseating the cable can be operated again.

If not, it may be a hardware problem as a faulty LCD or motherboard. A Toshiba repair center can give you a quote for repair.

My Tecra M2 will be commissioned, but the battery is still dead, if I remove the battery and just use the power cord that the machine starts up nice work as it should then just cut, after five minutes.

Also, it starts with the battery and the power cord but after five minutes, as before but flashes then dies.
If I let the machine closed to recharge it charges for five minutes before the power supply green led turns off with the amber battery light. Then the power cord light flashes in orange.
I have to unplug it and remove the battery to make it back to the State of charging.

The machine was working fine before and runs on xp pro.

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what is the problem, but after reading your ad, I think that your Tecra has problem with electronic control gear.
To be honest I don t think you can do something about it.

Of course, it can be checked by the service of Toshiba, but I think it's too expensive for this old piece of hardware.
In my opinion you should backup all your data and sell it on ebay. Someone can buy it to use different hardware components. I think it's time for the new laptop computer.

  • Tecra A11 - problems of the more recent/video BIOS

    Hi all

I just got a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there is a problem where the photo was displayed at 1024 x 768 and biased (in BIOS). Image 1-2cm off the screen to the left, with over the space of 5-6 cm black to the right of the picture, the low 2-3 cm of the image were also the bottom of the screen.

I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a wide screen resolution. I didn't have a chance, I also installed Win7, but still with the latest drivers, I had no chance.

It was strange because the BIOS was displayed in the same way, so, naturally, I decided to upgrade to the latest version of the BIOS. The BIOS of the laptop is quite old (end of 2009).
I downloaded the update to the BIOS of Toshiba web site and ran the update.

The new BIOS has been installed and rebooted the machine.
However there was no image displayed on the LCD screen, windows startup has done successfully, if I connect to an external monitor to the laptop I brush. When starting the laptop backlight LCD lights.

My question is: what can I do to fix this? Is a tool of recovery or down to BIOS available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?

    Thank you.

    > The new BIOS has been installed and rebooted the machine.
    > However there was no image displayed on the LCD screen, windows startup has done successfully, if I connect to an external monitor to the laptop I brush. When starting the laptop backlight LCD lights.

This means that everything is ok with the external monitor?
You can access the BIOS by pressing F2 and you can set it to the default settings?

Usually, you can switch between the external and internal view using the FN + F5 key combination. It work?

  • Toshiba Tecra A3 - problem with Port Replikator III

    Hello

I have a problem with a Toshiba Tecra A3 combined with a Port Replikator III. Both work very well together until you disconnect the laptop computer. After you start the Toshiba Tecra A3 without the Docking Station, everything is always ok. But when I anchor again and start it, Win XP is not able to display the logon session on the external monitor screen. All configurations, I did (for example only display on external monitor) with the mobile extension module are only available after login. But when I don't see the logon screen, I can't do that; (o). so, does anyone have a solution how can I use the external screen after the boot (without using the FN + F5) key.

    any help is much appreciated
    Thank you
    Mario

    Hello

As far as I know logon window can be displayed on the primary monitor only. Computers laptop LCD is set to a primary, and it cannot be changed. As you can see this option is grayed out in display properties.

  • TECRA M1 problems

    Hi all

I use a two years Tecra M1, PM 1.6, 512MBRAM, WinXP SP2. It seems to me that my laptop have problems.

    1. He starts and stops very slowly. Need more than 15 minutes to start.

2 HDD was noisy with ek ek ekk .even if I haven't run any software application.

    3. it runs very slow even with very simple software application such as Microsoft office. It take a lot of time to read and save a file. Similarly, I have to wait for about 30 seconds - 1 minute for the computer to answer a few buttons; for example, start Control Panel - System Configuration.

    4. If I opened several application programs and I have activate a program using ALT + TAB, the image of the program be activated appear to be blurry and take a few minutes to display clearly.

I reinstalled the operating system by using Recovery CD and installed only a few popular applications such as Microsoft Office, EndNote, and Norton Antivirus software.
    but he couldn't help.

I tested the performance of s to laptop using PassMark Performance Test Version 5.0. The result showed that CPU and memory seemed to be OK but the performance of the hard drive was not good (in my view).

    -Sequential read: 2.3 MB/second
    -Sequential write: 1.1 MB/second
-Random Seek + read & write: 0.69 MB per second

Do you think that there are some problems with my laptop HARD drive?

Last year, I also found the disk HARD was noisy (I used other laptops Toshiba "lower quality", but I never heard this unpleasant noise). I brought my laptop to a service point and a technician said that the HARD drive is OK.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

It certainly shouldn't take 15 minutes to load your system and with 512 MB of Ram you may be faced with the page or Exchange files problems.

You should be able to hear a very slight noise of rattling your drive hard when it is used, but I would not describe this as being noisy.

You could try to defragment your hard drive to see if it improves your response time, but I think you may well look a new hard drive in the near future.

My Tecra has developed a problem where a column of pixels seem to shimmer. Pressing the bevel directly under the affected screen area solves the problem but temporarily. Looks like something is loose - but what?

    Some things I noticed/tried:

-Occurs in different operating systems and even on the splash screen
N ' appear on the external monitor
    -Is not associated with heat
-Is happening in different parts of the screen (even if a section is particularly prone to it)
-Usually affects a section of the screen abot 3-4cm wide and goes from the bottom to the top of the screen

    Any ideas/thoughts?

    Thank you...

    Hello

Depending on your diagnosis, it looks like a display problem.
It of not a problem of graphics card because the external monitor seems to be OK.

I don t think that something might be loose (cables, inverter fl, etc.)
I think that his display, but of course, it's my personal opinion

Perhaps a technician should take a look at this screen.

  • New resolution to display Tecra S2-257

    Hello

I just install WXP (the original CD recover because I wanted to do more then 1 partition) on my new TS2-257. The default resolution is 1400 x 1050. At this level, everything is ok.
I want to implement the 1024 x 768 screen resolution and all become unclear. Not to big but enough to make me unhappy.
How to correct this problem, do you have any ideas?
    Thank you and best regards.

    Hello

I guess that your device has a display of type LCD TFT SXGA + (anti-Glare, normal brightness) and this display's default resolution is 1400 x 1050. If you set the resolution to lower the level of the resolution will be blurred. The same thing happen on my Tecra. Your device has a high-resolution screen and it is not a kind of quite normal problem if you use this type of poster with low resolution level.

Just FYI: I found an info that some Tecra S2 models have LCD XGA TFT with a resolution of 1024 x 768.

  • Tecra M9 - problem of extension Nvidia dual screen Mobile

At work, we use M9 laptops with Nvidia graphics card.

We have these laptops moored on a Mobile extension material

I set the laptop to display to two external monitors that works well, until we want to disconnect the laptop for when the laptop at home.

When they turn on the laptop, it will appear as the second screen and will not be usable.

I was wondering if there are any settings that I can change to make him show the two external monitors when it is docked and display just the screen of the laptop when not anchored.

I am aware that the utility of the device display, but this change does not offer two external monitor only offers internal and external.

    We are running Windows XP.

    Thanks in advance.

You have the latest version of the BIOS installed?
Have you installed the latest version of the display driver, common and Modules Extension Mobile software? (download them from the Web from Toshiba site)

Have you tested with a new installation of XP from Toshiba (by running the recovery plant)?
Maybe that's a problem of driver/software if you have a generic installation of XP is installed.

  • CD/DVD Tecra A2 problem

Was a problem with my carpet * a reader of DVD-RAM UJ 820 S on the Toshiba Tecra A2.

Was working fine until I tried to copy songs from a CD on the computer, on which he could not complete the operation and seemed at hand making a sort of buzz.

I cancelled the process and released the CD but although CD I put it it doesn't recognize it and if I go to D: / (CD player) he says the disc has 0 bytes used space and free space of 0 bytes.

Windows offers everything goes well and I tried to play with the drivers, but of course, as I have the actual driver on a Toshiba CD I can't do anything with that!

Kudos to anyone who can give me advice,

    Hello
seems to be that your DVD-Ram has a malfunction.

Just to ybout sure, try to start from a CD or DVD in Dos Mode. If this also fails, contact a Toshiba Service Center for control of your laptop.

Have you checked if a firmware update is available and necessary?

  • Tecra S1 problems after SP2 installation

I have a problem when I use SP2 on my Tecra S1. After you install SP2, my pc crashes when I use the function 'stand by' or 'Hibernate '. It comes with a conflict of interrupt on irq 11 and begins to restart again. Whenever the pc starts again, the blue screen appears with the problem to irq 11 and the program that does, it apears at the bottom of the blue screen, should be "gv3.sys. I did al updates on ' information to update the driver for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 - v1.1.pdf ", but without success. The pdf file say I need to update the driver power saver to version 1.00.34M version, but I can't find it on the site. I use the Dutch version of WXP and the only driver I can find on the Web site is the 1.00.32M version and the English version is the 1.00.34M, so maybe that's the problem. I tried with a clean version directly from the restore CD but I came up with the same results.

Who can help me to fix this, or point me in the right direction.

    Hello
you are absolutely right! The 1.00.32M version is the most recent for your machine (for the Netherlands).

Do not irritate cause there is a version higher than for other countries. The functions are equal.

Try again with this version and keep us updated, please!

  • Satellite U400-157 - update of display graphics card problem

    Hi forum,

I update my Toshiba (u400-157 model: psu44e) from vista to win7, the problem occurred when I tried to update my graphics display driver because it has been deleted when I did the upgrade.

Then when I went to the toshiba support website I downloaded many drivers and it works fine but when I tried to download entry error message display driver graphic after having extracted the files and said (can't find script engine "VBScript" script "C:\Users\... etc".)

Please help me solve this problem.
I tried to update the driver through device win7 Manager and it works fine but when I used a cable hdmi to the TV, the sound did not work so I had to uninstall the new version and the system to reinstall the old and works perfectly.

    Hello

I have the same model of laptop, and to be honest, I didn't install the display driver because Win 7 install automatically the display driver and was able to get the latest update.
So in my case, the installation of the new driver was not necessary.

But have you tried the latest driver from Intel page?
    Try this!

  • Audio driver on Tecra A8 problems

We have a set of about 20 of Tecra A8 in our society. All of our updates are controlled by a local windows update server and all the new windows updates are approved by week. Some of the A8, after an unknown update had any audio just stop them working.

We have tried to reinstall the Realtek drives, but nothing has changed. But when we use a utility that extracts a functional A8 readers and install it on the faulty A8 audio suddenly starts working again.

Any ideas how we can solve the problem without having to use a 3rd party tool? Update of readers? Windows update specific we would have maybe on an A8?

Could you please tell me if the SP3 for XP (I guess only you´re with XP on your machines) was already installed?

First I would recommend you to check if the KB888111 is installed. Microsoft has already published one, but previous versions has not worked properly and now they come out a modified version of the KB888111 so he should fix the problems with your sounddrivers and internal sound architecture in windows.

Otherwise I suggest a single machine and let windows performs a full update. After the windows update, check that the sound works and reinstall the KB888111. If this brings no solution, then remove step by step just recently installed windows updates and check if the sound works.

It s delicate because the drivers/windows it s related question, but I suppose it must have something to do with the UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) of Windows XP...

  • TECRA M1 problem - external monitor ressolution

I have Toshiba tecra m1 laptop and I plugged in the vga cable external monitor LG W2252TE. The ressolution fixed by the graphics card on the external monitor's maximum: 1280 X 1024, I wanto ressolution on 1680 x 1050 pourdefinir, because it is an optimal ressolutin through my monitor. My vga display the 4:3 format, but my monior is 16:9. How I can change this ressolution, it is possible to rewrite the friv graphics card and ressolutin added?, my graphics card: Trident XP4m32

    Hello

First of all, you must check if the graphics card chip allows and support your favorite external resolution.
According to the information in the user manual (which can be downloaded from the Toshiba page) this resolution are supported by a graphics chip:

    640 x 480
    800 x 600
    1024 x 768
    1280 x 1024
    1600 x 1200
    1920 x 1440
    2048 x 1534

Unfortunately 1680 x 1050 is not mentioned and I doubt you had the choice.
Also very important is the graphics card driver. If the driver doesn't include such a resolution then it will appear in the graphics card settings and you might not choose it.
