Do I have to join a homegroup?

We have three computers running Windows 7. All three use the same printer (network). I have disabled Documents, photos, music and videos on the page in shared libraries in homegroup. If I uncheck as printer, I lose the possibility to print from any computer? (All records show share with - person.)

On both computers, the properties / security documents, photos, etc. including Homegroup and comments page.

On the newer computer, it lists only SYSTEM, Jim and administrators. Apparently because I did not "have any shared libraries."

I think that all three are so limited. Could accomplish this by "leaving" the homegroup?

The desktop pc also includes a mysterious "Account unknown" writing, I wonder if I could just select and click on delete?

You don't have to use the homegroup to share a printer, it makes it just easier by applying all the parameters of the print share automatically instead of manually add a network printer on each computer separately (which may vary but generally involves knowing the IP address of the printer or something, but it can also generally scan and found even that).

On behalf of strangers, it is hard to say exactly. Your own desires may vary from mine, but my practice is to let the 'administrators' access as a fail-safe. This way even if I myself accidentally lock, an admin can still reach the files.

  • Unable to join the homegroup on new Inspiron 15 5559

I had a residential group put in place for a good while on 3 computers desktop and an old Tower, but my new laptop Dell Inspiron 15 5559 with 10 Windows fails to reach.  I get to the point of putting in the right password and clicking NEXT, then the bar keeps of moving from left to right for several minutes, then stops without any messages and not to join.

Here are the details.  Computer of One Office (a Dell Inspiron 630 with Windows 7 Pro), a former HP with Windows Pro 10 office, an old house built office with Windows 10 Pro (64-bit), and an old Toshiba laptop with 64 bit Windows 7 Home.  All these joined the homegroup very well.  In addition to the homegroup, I have the file & printer sharing power with 4 of them.  On the Dell desktop computer, I have 9 folders and two shared printers.  The new laptop Dell can access shared folders, it is just unable to join the homegroup.  I created the homegroup because I had problems to access 2 shared printers (a Canon IP1600 inkjet and laser Samsung ML-2525) with 10 windows, in case you're wondering why I'm not just with the file & printer sharing instead of homegroup.

In any case the key is that everything on this new Dell laptop works fine except that I can not join the homegroup, and I'm very curious as to why not.  I did full virus scans with Defender and Norton 360 and have done two scans with MalwareBytes, but no malware has been found.  I also ran "SFC/scannow" and it found no problem either.  I checked to make sure that I put in the security key for the homegroup, and at this point, I am triple ideas.  It please does not restore to the factory settings, because I had this problem since the first day that I got this laptop out of the box before I did any customization. FWIW, I'm no novice in computer science.

    What suggest you?  TIA

Yesterday I posted a note that I would have found and solved the problem.  I don't know what happened to this post.  The problem was that there was a popup that was actually a pop-under hidden behind a number of open windows.  He said that there was an invalid password.  Of course the note that I had used to set up 4 PCs had a "n" where there is now a "m".  I would like to say that this has changed from n to m somehow otherwise I don't know how I was able to put in place the other 4 PCs.  Anyhoo, the problem is now resolved.

  • Two computers (Win7), a homegroup. Why second computer cannot join the homegroup?

I have two new laptops, in the two running Win7.  Computer laptop 1 runs 64 bit.  Laptop 2 runs 32 bit.  CradlePoint router used to set up a network home.  Both computers show as being on the host of the CTR network.

Set up a homegroup on 1 laptop.
Laptop computer 2 "joined".  Laptop 2 could see and read the files from the laptop 1.  Computer laptop 1 could NOT see cell phone 2.

Restart both computers.  Same problem (portable 2 is invisible for 1 laptop, if 1 cell is visible for laptop 2).

Computer laptop 1 has left the homegroup, intending to join in an attempt to solve the problem.  Now, when 1 laptop computer attempts to join the network, the message is: "There are currently no homegroup on the network", with the offer of "create a homegroup."

Laptop 2 shows that there is clearly a homegroup, and he joined.

What should I do to join the existing laptop 1 to the homegroup?
This could possibly be linked to the 64 bit OS?  Can't imagine it would, but I'm at a complete loss here!

  • Cannot join the homegroup

I have two computers windows 7. One is a desktop computer and one is a laptop. I have a printer connected to my desktop computer. I'm trying to implement a homegroup on my desktop, so I can print from the files from my laptop and my desktop on my laptop access.

    I use AT & T as ISP and received a 2WIRE router/gateway to AT & T (Uverse).

I access Internet through a wired connection from my desktop to the router/gateway and I have access to the Internet via a wireless connection from my laptop to the router/gateway.

I have the driver for my printer on both computers.

I created a homegroup on my desktop computer. I have received and printed the password of the residential group created on the desktop.

When I on my laptop, I don't get the screen asking to join the home group. The screen I received looks like the screen that allows me to create a home on my lap top group.

I want the House Group to set up on my office and share with my laptop.

I spent reviewing the documents on the Internet to diagnose the problem without success.

I don't think that my lap top using the correct network to find the homegroup (just a guess). I need to be able to connect but computers to the Internet without degradation of the service.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problems to join the homegroup.

Hello, I installed windows 7 Professional on 2 PCs at my home. I need to work with the networking of the homegroup. I tried to create the network in both computers, but the other do not recognize when I try to join the homegroup. I tried solving the problems in both computers, but nothing happens. I changed the name of the Working Group, but the problem is still there. I tried everything I had read in the forums, but nothing happens. I would be happy if you could help me.

PS: Sorry if my English is not the best

    Hi Dmpalma.

This is a doc that might help you: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Why-can-t-I-join-a-homegroup

    Other things to try:

    1. ensure that your computers have different computer names.
    2. try to leave the homegroup on both computers, restart both computers, and then start again (create the homegroup on one computer, and then join him another computer)

  • Cannot join the homegroup to the second computer in the network.

I've recently updated my desktop pc and laptop with windows 7.  The office is a s 530 Dell Inspiron and the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15.  The Office has managed to create a homegroup in windows 7, but I can't get the laptop to join.  I ran the wizard of troubleshooting many times without success.  Sharing files between computers is available, I can't just join the homegroup.  I have read several forums about ipv6, and although it shows that IPv6 is enabled, the status shows no network access.  I tried to leave the homegroup, stop and begin another without success as well.  Router is a Belkin N1 Vision 802.11n.  I can follow directions very well, but I'm not a genius with this stuff.  If there is something that I should be more specific, please let me know.  I'm going crazy here.

OK, that was my answer.  I have connected the laptop in the server and was immediately allowed to join the homegroup.  Once the initial installation has been made, I can now access homegroup wireless on the network without any problems.  I don't know why I had to connect using ethernet to set up.  New bug in the OS, I guess.  Thanks for the help.

  • "To join a homegroup, network location of your computer must be on private."

I try to have the Surface to join my home group who has Windows 7 machines so that it can share a printer.

However, I got the following error message in the control panel-> network and Internet-> homegroup
"To join a homegroup, network location of your computer must be on private."
    Parameter that is?
The troubleshooting tool helps not at all.

    Hello

Thanks for posting the question. I've surely you will help find a solution on the issue of the homegroup.
What is the antivirus installed on the computer program? (Windows 7 and Windows 8?)
    Method 1:
Temporarily turn off the firewall and antivirus and check with the question. Even in Windows 7 computer turn off which hosts Homegroup.
    Caution:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
Method 2: Run the troubleshooter described in the article:
    Method 3

  • Can't join a homegroup error "Windows can't detect a homegroup on this network."

Original title: Cannot join a homegroup

I have 4 PCs in my Home Network, called "IqbalHome". Two of them are desktop computers (both are a Dell Optiplex 760 with Windows 8 Enterprise) and two of them are laptops (Dell N4050 with Windows 8 Enterprise and HP Pavilion with Windows 8 Enterprise g4). All windows are updated and activated.
Now, my Homegoup is running on Dell N4050 with Windows 8 enterprise and other computers have joined it with success, but when I try to join my new G4 HP Pavilion, it takes 4-5 minutes in the treatment and then says that "Windows can't detect a homegroup on this network. To create a new Homegroup click OK and open homegroup in Control Panel. ', and I can't even open its resources from the 'network' in my computer.
I checked the 'advanced settings sharing' of 'Network and sharing Center' in the control panel and both have the same settings and connected to the network as a private network wireless. I tried all solutions here are http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/homegroup-problems-in-windows, but could not get this to work.
These are the network settings for computers:
    (1) connected to the Tenda W150D WiFi and ADSL modem
    (2) HP Pavilion has "192.168.0.4" IP and Dell N4050 "192.168.0.50' with the same mask subnet, gateway and DNS.
    (3) advanced sharing settings are the same.
    (4) network discovery is running and all the services are great too.
    (5) HP with 192.168.0.4 can get ping 192.168.0.50 in 2-3 ms, but when I try to go through the network, it is said, 'Path network not found' and when I diagnose the problem, he said, "the remote device or resource accepts the connection".
The confusing thing is that I can still access the Dell N4050 on other computers and use its shared resources, but the problem is only with HP Pavilion. I really don't like Windows to do this and I'm planning to switch to Linux as Windows is not a developer friendly environment, there are a lot of annoying things in it.
Any kind of help will be really appreciated.

    Hello

Did you make any changes before the show?

    Method 1:

Temporarily disable the software antivirus (and any other security software) and the firewall on the computer as a test and check if this solves the problem follow the link below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

If disabling the antivirus software solves the problem, you may need to configure the settings of the antivirus as a result program.

Note: make sure that you enable the antivirus software, other security and firewall programs.

Warning: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    original title: incorrect Homegroup password

So, my cousins both got two netbooks for Christmas so I took it upon myself to put in place. However, I seem to have problems with getting Homegroup to work.

    All computers:
    Have enabled IPv6
Use Microsoft Security Essentials with the last update
Are connected to the same router (Linksys WRT54GX2)
Have no other third-party firewalls or AV installed and have been neatly eliminated via their respective tools when they had their
Can be seen in the network and can access any other files via 'network '.
Have the correct date and time and are all in sync with time.nist.gov.
Have the same network sharing settings (network discovery on, files and printers sharing folders public, sharing, streaming, wide, 128-bit encryption, sharing password protected, to allow windows to manage the homegroup connections)
Network is set at home, not in public

The computer that has implemented the homegroup is connected via ethernet to the router while other computers use to access the router 802.11 g I tried to delete and redo the residential group as well.

Despite all this, it is said that the homegroup password is incorrect for both netbooks (where it says it has encountered an error). I realize that it is case sensitive and I entered the password correctly. I also ran the resolution of the problems of the homegroup on all 3 machines and still no luck. I also tried to change the password and restarting of machines.

Any suggestions? I was _really_ hoping it will work right out of the box. Maybe it's something with the router? I don't really know. Any help is appreciated. Merry Christmas! : D
