Don't boot from the CD or Image

I can't get the machine to boot from my 2003 Server CD or an Image of the same drive. He sees the drive CD and image, but when I start the VM, it won't start. It says "customer MAC address, GUID, DHCP... "It seems that its doing something for a few moments, then said:"no boot file name is received. Exit Intel PXE ROM operating system not found. »

I went into the BIOS and set to boot from CD first. I tried different settings by editing the CD material. IDE 0, SCSI, etc... If I hit F2, F8, F12 or something like that during the boot sequence, I do nothing.

Because VMWare sees my cd player and the image, im not sure where otherwise the problem may be?  No matter what changes I make in the BIOS or in CD drive Edition, the console is the same when it starts.  I get the same sequence and messages.

Here are my settings in CD player edit, and I have tried many combinations with no luck:

Accommodate the media, connect to power, access to the physical drive, D:, the reader directly, IDE0, 0 (1 DVD player) adapter

Thanks for any help!

What is your host operating system? Please check the logs from VMware for all relevant messages. Without doubt, you have tested the CD on another system? It doesn't start this host, if you are able to restart?

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

If nothing is done, then you can contact the manufacturer support for assistance on setting up the correct boot sequence and check.

    BIOS WARNING-

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 assessment (booting from the install image error)

    Hello

I have problems to install Windows 8 assessment. When you start the virtual machine I can't boot from the installation of Windows 8 image to start the installation process. I always get this error message:

    error.png

I use a picture of Windows 8 x 64 downloaded from here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx. The VMware Player version is 5.0.0 build-812388.

How can I solve this problem?

    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the community,

This error occurs because Windows 8 requires the 'Execute Disable Bit' is activated. For VMware Player pass this parameter in the BIOS of the virtual machine, it must be enabled in the BIOS of the physical system. Make sure that the feeding cycle you your system after you change this setting in the BIOS, a simple reboot might not be enough!

  • Trying to remove virus format hard drive - when booting from the Windows XP CD, don't teach me to press a button to proceed with the installation?

Trying to remove virus, need to format the hard drive to remove all programs to remove the virus.  I ran several security programs which has not found a virus.  Taken at Best Buy, they ran their programs, could not detect viruses, but said there are something certainly on my system.  System is pegged almost 100% all the time, so I can't really use the pc.

Reinstalling the operating system is usually not necessary to remove the malware, but if you're convinced that this is necessary (it is sometimes), this guide is a good:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

(this assumes that you have the appropriate Windows XP installation CD)

Of course, you will need to boot from the CD instead of the hard drive. This page explains that:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

You also need to install the hardware drivers. I hope that you have them on CD, too. If this is not the case, the web site of the manufacturer of PC should have them.

Since a clean install wipes EVERYTHING, you should have all your data copied beforehand.

  • Equium A100 - unable to boot from the bootable disc

    Equium A100-549

My son s partner has a 2 year old Toshiba which has become slow over time. I had done a backup of the system with office installed etc using Acronis. Anyway, decided to rid running Acronis and recorded image. The program runs normally, and he falls down to a denial of service as the ready to restore screen. It is then with the cursor flashing as usual and then it crashes, and doesn't allow you to access the image.

I am that it can be altered, so reinstalled Acronis. Make an Acronis boot disk to run the image, and he does not take into account the disk boots directly to the normal hard drive (IDE 0) still no joy. Then I tried the restore of laptops disc. In the BIOS, I said peripheral CD as everything first and also the restore disc says place in the drive and turn off.

While it starts up press F12, which brings a menu allowing you to boot from the CD drive. I did, but it doesn t appear to look at the CD and just load windows from the HARD drive. I removed the CD for system devices and rebooted. He found and added the new device to herself and asked to reset. Still no joy!

Scanned with Norton, but still not good. Norton removal. The result is the same. Able to read the CD and also write to it as well. Diagnosis Toshibas ran on the unit and everything seems ok with it.

Tried to make a bootable flash stick on floppy, but it is ignored, well specified the amorçage using other devices.
Basically, it seems that I can t get it to watch prior CD onto the HARD drive.

Flashing the BIOS would heal it? -Registry error causes this?

Y at - it everywhere where I can talk to someone from Toshiba about this?

Any info / help much appreciated

    Hello Nick

Put the delivered device DVD recovery DVD and turn on the laptop. Press the C button and keep it pressed for a few seconds. This will force the DVD player to read the DVD, and I hope that you will be able to use the DVD of recovery for the installation of the OS.

If possible, test it with some other bootable CD installations. Please post the results.

  • Portege R100 boots from the HARD drive - lack of operating system

    Hello

I have a Portege R100 which won't the HD boot, I get the message "missing operating system".
I don't have a compatible CD or floppy, I just about 1.8 inches for the hd, it works and I also have norton ghost 2003 is installed in another computer (a toshiba satellite A45).

I tried to recover the drive with the help of norton and the image of the Ghost in the recovery CD, but it keep asking for a password.

I would like to know if there is a way to use the restore with norton CD and usb driver and password screen (or where I can get the password?).

    Thank you!

    What password do you mean?

and what recovery CD do you use? The image on the Toshiba Recovery CD is locked and cannot be extracted.

It turns out that you cannot start or install the OS on the USB key!
You must boot from the CD/DVD compatible player that can be connected to the PC card slot.

  • NB510 - boot from the SD card?

    Hello

I have a question related to booting from SD cards.
As my NB510 has no optical device, I thought to use an SD with Linux on it to boot from.

The reason is that sometimes I need Linux and I don't wan to lose my Windows partition or another partition of my HDD with a 2nd OS.

My experience is that more than one OS at a disk always causes unnecessary trouble.
Unfortunately, it seems that the NB510 does not boot from the SD card.

I created it with the Toshiba SD Memory Format Utility and "UNetbootin" to create a card with the last OpenSUSE Linux.

When, in from the laptop and press F2 (or F12), all available drives be filed - but not my SD card (Yes, it was inserted). BIOS Insyde H2O also doesn't seem to provide the SD card as boot drive.

So is it possible to get my NB 510 booting from SD card?

    Greetings from the Germany

    Hello

Why you boot from the USB flash key t n?
As much as I know the NB510 support the start of disk HARD primary, Network (LAN), USB, USB HDD and USB WEIRD memory.

If booting from USB is certainly possible.

    > Thanks, but how do I boot from a cd rom usb drive? I don't have any usb floppy drive
You need to first boot the bootable disc using a bootable diskette floppy drive!
Then a driver would be loaded that allows you to boot from the CD/DVD drive

    Akuma explained already!

  • OS to boot from the external drive

So I searched high and low, and I don't know if the Toshiba Satillite are able to start an operating system on an external hard drive. I discovered that there are portable computers that can do but their BIOS must beable to do. If Toshiba laptops can do those who can?

    Hello

As far as I know it of not possible to boot from the external USB HDD.
I found several postings on similar themes and it seems that it is only possible to boot from the external USB FDD, HDD, ODD and LAN are sometimes also PCMCIA card.

I have a Satellite S5200-902 and it was really good to use for me actually... Once I received a system error message and might start Windows more. Anyway... I tried to reinstall the OS, but I can't boot from the recovery CD. The CD is ok because I tried it on my other computer. I press F12 for the boot menu option it shows these items as HARD - disk drive - CD drive.

I choose CD and nothing happens. He always tries to start from the HARD drive. I installed the Windows on the HD satellite on my other computer and it worked very well. He has installed the system but if I put the HD Toshiba Satellite does not start windows. It blocks the laptop.

BIOS version is 1.30 and I don't know how to install and update the bios 1.8 or something on it, because I don't know how to install it without windows. I now have no idea how to go ahead?

    Hello

It would be very interesting to know if you can boot from another CD, for example from the original CD of Microsoft.
It s interesting because I would like to know if the drive of the laptop accept another CD.
In my opinion, there is something wrong with the internal drive and so the laptop can not boot from the recovery CD.
