Downconverting HDV 1080i DV

I just searched the Forum (he must have been covered many times before) but can't find what I'm looking for.  I just started to learn AE so apologies in advance...

I work with HDV 10801 footage in Premiere Pro and have been informed that EI will make a much better downconversion for DV.

Could someone tell me please in the right direction for the appropriate workflow?

Thank you very much

Julian

Julian: There was a small piece of information in my head that I wanted to share everything with you, but I had to check if it was OK (the worst possible crime is to reveal features that do not exist!)

So, as much as I like to think that AE is the universal remedy for every problem (!) image processing, I wanted you to know that, beginning with the 4.01 update and before, Premiere Pro CS4 has a new option settings of sequence called "Maximum rendering quality. This means "scaling quality. If you use this version of Premiere Pro, you should get very good quality downscaling (at a cost at the time of rendering, but you've imagined, haven't you?)

  • Cannot capture HDV 1080i in CS3 or CS4

I just shot a minute of video in HDV 1080i with my new SONY HVR - Z5U camcorder format. I have connected a cable IEEE of the camera on my new computer. Premiere Pro is set to HDV, 1080i formats. In shooting mode, I can control the camcorder but nothing appears on the computer screen and nothing is captured. This worked in DV mode with the recorded DV video, but not to the HDV format. How can I record HDV video in my computer?

  • Why I can't load mp4 file of type HDV 1080i to an EX1?

If I take a HDV format file (shot on a Sony EX1 to 25 Mbps - HDV 1440 x 1080i) and import it into PE8 'demo' it shows up as a red box.  This file has modiying somehow until I can use it?  Thanks if you can help.  David.

I would like to look at PrPro, as it can handle the EX1 files easily. There are several wires EX1 on the CS4 and CS5 for one, and they could be useful.

    Good luck

    Hunt

[Edit] IIRC, the EX1 offers input Audio 4 channels of XLR connections. PrPro will extract only channels 1 & 2, and there are several threads on obtaining channels 3 & 4.

I have a Sony HDV 1081 recorder camera that used tapes. I want to transfer the images to a cassette in the camera to my computer. I have Windows 7. Is there available simple instructions I can follow and do I have to have an i.Link cable if yes, does mean that I have an i.Link Connector or port? on my computer. • Best workflow (PAL) to convert interlaced to progressive DV HDV?

Question - what is the best workflow (PAL) to convert interlaced to progressive DV HDV?

Software: Pr, en and Ae - CS4 all.

My camera: (Sony Z1) shoots HDV 1080i.

When capture and editing, I keep all the HDV and intertwined.

    Premiere Pro:

    1. Capture HDV - mpeg 1440 x 1080 (1.3333)
    2. Sequence - HD 1440 x 1080 (1.3333) anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Upper Field First - (HDV Preset 1080i25)

Once editing is complete, I have dynamically link sequences in Encore.

Question - I dynamically link to yet or export the sequence of Pro?

If you're not a fan of dynamically link sequences and think export Premiere Pro sequences is the way forward, please advise best export settings.  I guess that in the export (from Pr) is to convert from interlaced to progressive HDV DV takes place?

At the present time, I dynamically link sequences in Encore.  This means handles even the gradual conversion of DV.

Question - what are the best settings for transcoding (yet) to transcode HDV 1080i25 to DV widescreen progressive?

I tried for many workflows, but for now, I was not 100% satisfied with any of them.

I find this a challenge to take HDV 1080i and produce a beautiful DVD IE minimum artifacts and interlace jitter.

I used to downconvert to DV in camera during the capture process, but I find that I get much better results by editing in HDV and downconverting during post.  That's what my post is really all about finding the best workflow for this.

I'd be very keen to learn how others are shooting and editing in HDV to then produce best-high quality DVD.

  • First CS5 - system reading HDV freezes/crashes!

    Hi all

Despite the immense anger and frustration that accumulates in these moments there, I will try as hard as possible to stick to the facts here:

First CS5 is completely unusable since I bought it 6 weeks ago.  It runs on a new Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit system.   He can't handle the HDV playback and blocks the machine at random intervals during play, normally within a few seconds.  Sometimes the 'crash' means that the video freezes for and audio continues to play.  Sometimes, the accident blocks the whole machine or even forces an immediate re-boot.  First seems to behave as if it is running on an old and slow system that cannot follow.  I cannot perform a single Edition on my calendar because of the crash problem.

I support box to open with Adobe, but they seem to have no idea how fix the problem and continue round in circles (they tried to dismiss the case 3 times more!).  I called Sunny, Sundeep, Riaz, Deepak and the supervisor, Avinash.  I have also contacted technical sales engineer Steve Burnard (to the BVE, Earls Court), but have so far been ignored, despite its promises to help.  I have been working through a comprehensive list of maintenance, but made no progress.  It goes without saying really, but my business suffers bigtime.

My system spec is as follows: Asus P7P7P55-M, Intel Core i7 870, Coolermaster Hyper TX3, 8 gb Corsair DDR3 1600 mhz CL9 DHX (4 x 2 GB modules), NVidia GeForce GTX 460 1 GB, 700w EZCool Tornado PSU, Western Digital FW800 Raid Array, Matrox Triplehead2go (now disconnected from paternalism).  The machine is NOT overclockee, and I have no antivirus software or other programs on the system: it is a dedicated video editing system.

I'm under first CS5 version 5.0.3 (all updates installed).  My NVidia drivers are up-to-date (266.58 version). My images are HDV 1080i for a Canon XLH1a (PAL).

Here is a summary of the main things I've tried.  None of these steps has made a clear difference:

    • Changed "rendering optimizes memory/performance."
    • Tinkered with memory allocation settings
    • Cache cleared
    • Lowered playback quality
    • Captured or imported new film HDV (same camera)
    • Re-capture the images of 'problem' (same camera)
    • Film imported from another machine (work). These images editing / playing perfectly in CS3 on the old machine and was captured on the same device
    • Footage moved to another (fast) drive hard internal
    • Other drivers and BIOS updated
    • Entry memory timings/tension manually instead of using the parameters of the BIOS 'Auto '.
    • TH2go disconnected and uninstalled Matrox Powerdesk
    • Updated day/re-installed video card drivers (clean install)
    • First uninstalled and then reinstalled updates one at a time (the last 5.0.3)
    • Run memtest86 with only a WHAT DIMM installed in time - no error reported
    • Run Prime95 Torture test for 4.5 hours with no error reported
    • Tried to import Quicktime HD DVD 'Company of images' files (won't import)

    Main findings:

Images that hangs at first CS5 plays back fine in Windows Media Player on the same machine at full resolution.

The images which blocks the first time and publishes fine on an old machine running Premiere CS3.

Capture the scene does not work properly - it cuts off after a few minutes. Bands must therefore be captured in their entirety, meaning file sizes are large.

AVI files seem to play back fine so far (could it be related to higher compression formats?)

My apologies for the length of this post.  It is a complex problem and long term, and so far no 'professionals' from Adobe showed a real willingness to help.  Adobe support have suggested so far only the basics.  They are extremely reluctant to you allow to talk to their support higher level officers and seem to basically just script-readers.  If a suggestion does not work, they seem to have no idea of what to try next (until they ' talking to their superiors'!).

They recorded a session with me and are apparently still discuss the results: honestly, I'm not sure I believe them.  Four weeks have passed now.   According to me, that I really need someone to try to resolve the conflict of machine/first on hardware software.  I could be wrong, but given all of my testing so far this seems to be caused by a conflict between the first and something on my machine... .but what?  I don't see any sign of a faulty hardware.

All the advice in the wake of any listed above would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    Power supplies - what!

I would like to say to NewEggs on sides of the user as a good starting point to help with your selection. I like also jonnyGuru.com be able to provide comments. they looked at a lot of different p / s

About power, do not put too much weight in this alone. I have an old Thermaltake Toughpower 675 watts p/s which is so solid, but there are sellers of 1000 and 1200 models of watt that I wouldn't trust in my system for a second. I think you should at least 650 watt rated p/w with a renowned manufacturer.

    Things that I find important:

-more large power units tend to be much quieter with excess capacity and more fans (I got the AX1200 gold Corsair and LOVE)

-models of modular cables may provide much cleaner cases

    -variable speed fans

  • How to get Premiere Pro CS4 rendering HDV again?

    Embarrassing problem:

Use PP CS4 (as part of the master collection) for several months, no problem. Details of the system below. This morning, I made a 1 HR 1080i HDV sequences 29.97df (AVCHD, Blu - ray) m4v format. I've done many other makes this same sequence, with no problems (MPEG 2, etc.). Completed successfully rendering. So, I decided that I would study the output and possibly adjust the brightness. I tried to import the PP. any sequence, he showed as a screen orange without video or audio. I assumed that this meant that the PP could not interpret the video rendering, which seemed strange (it seemed to be a reasonable-AVCHD with audio PCM format).

Like it wasn't a big problem, I simply deleted the imported clip and decided to make an another record in HDV MPEG-2 format. (I have I'm going to do a standard DVD also and wanted images MPEG-2.) I started to export standard (MPEG-2 1 - pass VBR with 384K audio preset, even the one I had used many times before) and nothing happened. Adobe Media Encoder hung on the first image with no progress. I tried to stop the queue and delete current file. SOUL hanging there. I had to use the Task Manager to kill him. I then closed PP and rebooted the system. Open pp with sequence again and I tried export again in the same way. Same results.

I tried a few times with different preset settings - whenever TEA would hang and he made no progress. Whenever I couldn't cancel, but had to kill using Task Manager.

Then, I decided to do a new rendering part of the sequence just to see if that would make a difference. I put a small bench and deleted the files of rendering by using the option menu sequence. A red lines as expected. Sequence hit + effects on a work area. Nothing. Render hung with 0.02% full. Tried to cancel. No dice. You have to use the Task Manager to kill PP.

Tried a bunch of times with different segments of the sequence. Every time I did, I would be cleanly restart the system to ensure that nothing has been left in a strange state.

If at this point, I could not export or go to MPEG-2 or AVCHD.

Next: I create a new test project dummy with a film DV, import, apply effects and rendering. No problem. Export also works very well.

The same project, create sequence HDV and import the small clip of HDV video. Plays very well. However, cannot make no effect and cannot export. (Same problem as before: hangs.)

HERE IS WHERE I AM NOW:

PP works fine in every way except that I can't make any effect of HDV footage and I can't export HDV to MPEG-2 or AVCHD format. I can make and export DV SD to SD (AVI etc) formats with no problems. I was also able to export the HDV SD AVI film (but only without effects - if I tried to apply effects in PP, they wouldn't render-hang as before).

    Here's what I see:

ImporterProcessServer.exe hangs in the background (Task Manager) as PPProHeadless and processcoordinator. None of them shows no activity of the CPU. Somehow, the HD processing pipeline is defective (locked). There seems to be no problem for SD DV rendering.

Here's what I did to try to solve this problem:

-Downloaded and updated to latest version of DirectX (9 c for XP)

-Downloaded and updated for more recent QuickTime

-Ran CHKDSK on the system and A / V drives (no problem found)

-Reinstalled PP, AE, SOUL and modules involved in the original game from DVD - ROM

-Downloaded all updates of PP, AE, Adobe's SOUL and installed

-Deleted all files of the user for the PP, SOUL, etc. (i.e. under Documents and Settings) and permit software to re - create.

-Delete the Cache of media and permit PP to recreate (which she did successfully). Also moved Cache of media to a few different readers.

-Double amount of virtual memory available (it was a shot in the water because everything had worked perfectly before)

-Rebuild the cache plugin (now SHIFT key)

-Checked for own log events (in the Windows Event Viewer)

-Check the logs of other SOUL and PP without finding something interesting

-Checked the nVidia card has latest drivers (it did)

-Services checked to make sure minimum of background tasks are running

-Checked to make sure that the disks have enough free space

-Sacrifice a goat to the God of the Moon at midnight

(Kidding on the last one of them, but just barely.)

I'm open to suggestions, but I'll be skeptical of suggestions that the equipment or system is at fault, given that PP has run so well before, and given that the computer does not show any other problems. My hunch is that in some way something damaged the MainConcept HD codecs, but I guess that uninstall and re-install the software Adobe must have re-installed them, and which did not help. I don't know of another way to test them, or to re - install just this component. It is confusing that the SD treatment works very well.

I'm frankly at a loss and have spent 8 + hours trying to understand this...

Thanks for help that someone can give!

  • Can I change SD and HDV sequences at the same time in CS4?

I have a camcorder Sony PD 150 and I am looking to buy a Sony HDR - HC # HDV 1080i Camcorder to use as a second video camera shoots.  Can I edit images from two cameras on the same timeline in CS4?    I use a PC, Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, with a processor Intel (R) Pentium (R) 2.80 GB 2.5 GB of RAM.  Thank you!

    Lewis B.

With your processor, I suggest you downrez in HDV, DV camera and change only in SD and deliver on DVD or similar.

If you want to make HDV, get a better PC, invest in InstantHD Pro of S.redgiant to uprez your DV material (and you can still be disappointed by the results) and get a reader and burner BRD.

  • CS4 Presets of sequence with HDV footage... Need help!

I recorded my film with a Canon XH - A1s HDV 1080i 24F.  When I opened CS4, sequence Presets, HDV, I don't see an option for 1080i 24F.  I see 1080i 25, but my camera is not capable of this frame rate.  Should which preset I choose?

    Thank you!

1080 p 24 is correct.  Record 24F for a chip interlaced with flags to remove additional images making it 24 p.  If I remember correctly...

Try to make the sequence and dropping in a few sequences.  If there is a red line above the timeline settings do not match, but it should be with 1080 p 24.

  • First Elements 4 Adobe will be not returned or export.

    Hello!

I recently discovered the HD options in first Elements 4, but when I go to render or export, the render window pops up for a split second before closing. When I click on export, he invites me to save the file, but then it does nothing.

The DV-NTSC-Standard 48 kHz and 48 kHz screen works fine, it's HDV 1080i 30 and HDV 720p30 who used to or export. It's very mouthful I would like to have higher quality videos when my clips are both better.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Xmau5,

the problem would be involved because the elements is installed on an external hard drive

This could very well be the problem, or part of it. Most of the Adobe programs, including PrE, really, really want to be installed on the C:\ HARD DRIVE. The programs are not 'portable', so one HARD drive location, other than C:\, can cause problems.

Now I install all my programs Adobe (except for Adobe Acrobat Reader) in my C:\Adobe folder, but always on my C:\. I install 4.0 on the C:\ pre test.

Your support and your project should not be on C:\. In my case, I usually have those on my D:\ HARD drive for my pre projects and often my brackets on E:\, or even attached FW - 800 external HARD drive. I've never had a problem. I have still several projects on an external, as well as the media and all the discs from Scratch, as I migrate entire projects between computers.

Please let us know if installation pre 4.0 on C:\ solves your problems of export.

    Good luck

  • If I want to keep the quality of the original captured images (from tape), which is the format that I should?

I captured canon hv20 in FireWire to my computer with adobe first elements 11. After the capture, I cut clip three times. Then I want to export my computer due to watching on my 46 inch lcd TV full hd. If I want to keep the quality of the original captured images (from tape), which is the format that I should? I chose mpeg 1440x1080i 24, TI alerts for error. Or I premise avchd 1920 x 1080 p, then it is also more scenes captured. I think it's 20000 MB, scened (without cutting) but captured only 11.2 GB. Please help me. Thank you very much.

I would firstly like to thank you for answering my question. My camcorder is canon hv20 PAL. When I look at the setting of the project, it's HDV 1080i 25 frames per second anamorphic. Duration of the timeline is 56 minutes. I'm sorry about misinformation in an adobe forum. Yes you are right this is not MPEG 1440x1080i 24. I chose MPEG and choose MPEG2 1440x1080i 25 and it convert .m2v file. I couldn't see because Windows media player does not open the m2v files, but I didn't do anything about in order to open the file. I want to learn: my initial project captured is 11.2 GB. But shows on screen m2v files is about 21000 MB. This means that 20 GB! It is same quality my project captured MPEG) and Cup project m2v? What is another way to export? I'm sorry that even once it does not error message about the m2v files. I think I got confused, I think when I chose MPEG, 25 HDTV high quality, I saw the error message but I don't know what is the error message.

I tried all combinations of presets within these two formats... Attributes match, 1440x1080i, HDTV,... etc, etc, etc.

The machine is to spend anywhere from 7 to 27 hours to encode these files.

When I open the two files, once the operation is finished, I find that I have a file audio 52:25 of length and a video file 43: 34, any format or preset I have chosen!
