Downgrade from double to single vCPU - Server 2008

What is the procedure (in Windows) decommissioning of a virtual machine to 2 vCPUs to 1 for Windows Server 2008?  I saw the documentation for year 2000 & 2003, but nothing for 2008.

Seems that there is not a single processor version:

http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.03.kernel.aspx?PR=blog

One change low-level system is that Windows Server 2008 includes only a version of the kernel designed to run on multiprocessor systems. In the past, Windows used a specific version for single processor on machines with a single processor, because this version could achieve slightly better performance by omitting the necessary synchronization only code in multiprocessor environments. As hardware has become faster, the gain of performance optimizations has become negligible, and most server systems today include more than one processor, making it a useless uniprocessor version.

  • Convert virtual disk from IDE to SCSI now Server 2008 does not start

    Hi all

I hope that one of you guys can solve my problem.

I'm new to vmware and have managed to convert my 2008 physical server to a virtual server, but when this virtual disk has been set to IDE, I read that I need to use SCSI for better performance then I attributed a new virtual disk to my server and clone the IDE hard drive on the SCSI disk using EASEUS disk copy software.

After I cloned the drive I removed the IDE hard disk but my server continues to display the BSOD 0x0000007b error (inaccessible boot volume). I can't start normally or through safe mode. If I try to use the recovery mode no drives appear.

I use the LSI Logic SAS controller type and have tried the parallel LSI Logic Controller without result.

  • Citadel of backup does not not on Server 2008

    I use Lookout 6.7

I just updated from Windows XP to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

The process went very well. I was able to take the files of the project and the new easy to machine. I was able to archive the data from the old computer to the new easily.

I use the CitadelControl object to back up data.  It works fine on the old computer. The new works at all.  The bar works but no progress data is recorded or stored in the backup file.

I checked the path on the new machine, and that's okay.

I have attached the database correctly.  I test this by creating the new path on the old machine and checking my steps.

    Anyone with ideas?

The only thing that I wonder about is that measurement and automation is installed on C: and 6.7 Lookout is installed on E:

    I think it's important but...

I uninstalled the software service COMPUTERS had installed and reinstalled to the default locations.

Lookout and measurement and control are now in the same drive.  Restarted server a couple of times and unit would still not have archive.  Went back next day unit is now archiving and working. A week later to check that everything works.

Maybe the gremlins.   anyway for now fixed.

  • How to get right to downgrade to Windows Server 2008, if I buy window 2012 license

We need to buy Windows Server 2008 Enterprise X 64 Edition, unfortunately, is not available although wanted to confirm which edition of Windows Server 2012 devrais I buy to get the edition of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise X 64 Edition downgrade but I found the information in your FAQ document, mentioned in Q15 I have to buy Windows Server 2012 Standard for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise

Q15. If I want to use the bits from a previous version or edition, what are my options?

If you have Windows Server Datacenter edition 2012, you will have the right to downgrade your bits any earlier version or lower edition. If you have Windows Server 2012 Standard edition, you have the right to downgrade your forests to any previous version of Enterprise, Standard or Essentials editions.

The ability to execute downgrade bits do not change licensing or support the terms in which you use the product; rights of the purchased product (Windows Server 2012) will apply. This means that the license will continue to wear two physical processors and virtualization of the rights do not change.

Here are a few examples. License purchased

We are to modernize a client from an old Server 2003 to new hardware Server 2008.
I was wondering if there re 50 CAL to buy for them, we bought or if we can transfer those from the old server.
The former will be decommissioned and formatted.
Please note that I don't want to transfer the CAL of Terminal Server service but rather access normal Server CAL

  • Support of Server 2008 downgrade

Issue. Looking to buy a server PowerEdge T110 II. Need only us Windows Server 2008 Standard, but looks like it comes with 2008 Server R2. Is this correct?  What is the process of decommissioning?

OK, that is. When you configure the server, choose 2008 R2, and then further down the page after the section of memory, another box will appear (see screesnshot) check that box and you will get the media to downgrade. You will get a disc of x 86 and x 64.
