What I found on the Adobe website has been the Creative Suite Design 6 Standard Edition, so I tried to download that.   I download Creative Suite CS4 from a purchased dvd. It allows me to get the serial number, but then takes me to the net screen that wants to do a upgrade verification! I have no other Adobe software! It asks me to select the product I own already, that I don't have. It uses default CS3 and then of course wants the serial number which I did not because I do not have a previous version! If I go back to the previous screen, I can load a trial version and then enter the serial number after 30 days, I don't want to do that.

  In this case, you might have a problem.

  You can export to IDML for CS4 users, but all the new features that you used will be lost or severely mutilated. Text will likely reflow.

  For a trip one way, you could get away with it, but there is no good way to use it in a collaborative workflow.

  I thought on CS4 Installer was inside installation media so when adobe page says to uninstall, I did this and the installer disappeared.

  So I'm quite out of luck? How did I get here? I've updated the OS to El Capitan, then had trouble of it stops overheating. Taken to an authorized Apple fix it place. They put on a new hard drive and they put my info on my Time machine. Then the products Adobe would not work. Go through the steps online on what to do and of course not a not disable Adobe serial due to ignorance, when I took it into the shop. I don't have the steps to work.

  Before I uninstalled it, I wrote what was in the preferences/Adobe Systems / product licenses_120 / B2B43000.dat, and 4 other files ending with .ff1 which is useful at all? I can get proof of the fis Apple he place to check what happened. Who will help?
