Download will continue to stop, no idea why!

My son urgently that the Adobe CS Suite 5.5 Design Premium for an ongoing school project. So, I bought a copy from the Adobe Web site. Of course, is that AFTER I paid for what I realized that he could not get a purchased copy until you had checked his identity then student... three days later we will ALWAYS try to download a trial version for him to use until its registration is delivered through.
This is our problem. He was running IE7. Adobe Download Assistant apparently has a problem with this version of IE, so we switched to IE8. The download wizard installs fine, only it reinitiates download CS5.5 Design Premium, which is in the queue and after about 10 minutes, then stops.
We get the standard Windows error indicating that Adobe Download Wizard has encountered an error and needs to close. Then nothing.
I emptied the browsing history and cookies. Uninstalled the ADA and reinstalled, restarted the computer, refresh the download screen, restarted the download (AGAIN!) and it continues to be. Now the ADA stops just and disappears. We are not even to get the error message from Windows half the time.
I download on my pc and copy files across before installing, but the ADA installs the program for you! So... what should I do?
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Will be no error message, I have no suggestions that I can really do. You can try the link for direct download, I have proposed higher or you can also download the files for installation on another computer, and then copy your son through a USB to computer.

Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your desktop.
Once the download is complete, close all browser windows and start the program uninstaller. Once done, restart the laptop.
Then, download and install Firefox , then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash. Note: You can deselect the option to include McAfee Security Scan Plus before download.
Close all browser windows before you run the installer of Flash.
Start Firefox and see if the video play Ok in this browser - if they do, close Firefox, open Internet Explorer and click on the same link Adobe Flash above to get a command prompt to install the ActiveX component. Once completed, restart Internet Explorer.

McAfee should have its own firewall as part of their suite.

I get a pop - up that says 'one download will be cancelled if I close the page.' I get this on each page. I tried to start Firefox in safe mode, but it does not help. I tried to restart my PC and it does not help. I don't get the pop up if I use IE only Firefox. The culprit seems to be google Video.com.
I had just downloaded a movie with realplayer, but not from google when it began. The black arrow pointing down in the navigation bar seems to be the cause of the problem. It shows a download in progress, but it is not a. I tried to cancel the download by clicking on this arrow and 'Cancel', but is no more. The film, that I downloaded with realplayer plays very well. That's what fixed it for me. I went to the HISTORY tab. Then click on "show all history". Then on to the left hand side choose / click on "DOWNLOADS". That should show you what is (by train) to download or is a (active) download (which explains why you get this pop up when you try to close Firefox browser). So now you have to click or select what list in the download of right hand box and click on the X in the upper right corner or you have to click so that he can remove it for download. I have an old workstation HP with single Xeon 3.06 core 2 processors and 8 GB of ram with windows 8.0. It runs great. But the Upgrade Wizard indicates that my computer can not put because of my old processors. :-(
I'm not buying a new computer right now so my question is will. Microsoft continues to support 8.0? I can't find an answer to this. If anyone knows and or has a link to the answer, I would be grateful.
