Download Windows 8.1 update will delete all my data on my laptop?

I have a Lenovo laptop, G580, running windows. A new update of Windows 8.1 is available. Download it delete all my data on my laptop? If so, how can I protect all my files to be deleted?

Hello

Install this update upgrades your system to the latest definitions and will not erase your files. But for your safety, you can move your important data to another drive on your system and restore the same after that update is installed.

Hope this helps, good luck :)

I have serious problems with a hard disk. I have vital data and do not lose them. After much research, I have concluded that the partition plan is down. My question is: create a map of partition will delete all my data? "I found this app ' iPartition" who is able to create an apple partition map but warns me that my data will be lost. I remember from my research that people were saying that the data will be fine. Could someone help me! I think I'm losing it: p

Creating a new partition map will not physically destroy the data on your HARD drive, but it will make it inaccessible. You need to start some recovery/restore software tools to recover your data. But the 100% success is not guaranteed. You are most probably going to lose some or all of your data in this process.

Before trying anything, get an another HARD drive of the same size as the original, and create a clone (e.g. using dd in the Terminal). It must be a clone like that would give you an exact copy of the original, including the partition table broke and all the data on all partitions.

When you have your clone store the original HARD disk in a safe place and carry out all repairs and attempts at recovery on the clone. In this way whatever you do degrades the original HDD already weakened.

An alternative to the above process would be to find a company that specializes in restoring the data. But who can become very, very, very expensive.

BTW, if you do not have a backup of your data, it cannot be so important. I suggest that start to implement a backup procedure now.

  • Do a system restore will delete all my data on my drive?

    Hello.

I just found out that installed programs appear correctly in the menu programs in Control Panel and am not able to uninstall some programs. If I want to perform a recovery of the system using HP Recovery manager (the factory reset option).

My question is if I do recovery, willl my data on all other partitions are deleted? Will you please reply as soon as possible because I can't let my vulnerable PC for a long time.

My PC is a 2005AX Pavilion G6 with WIndows 7 Ultimate edition.

    Thank you

    Marc P

    You are the very welcome.

You will need to use your installation (no recovery) Windows 7 Ultimate DVD and not delete or format the C:\ partition.

If you allow just Windows to be installed on the existing installation of W7, it will create a folder Windows.old, where you will be able to explore this folder and copy all the files you need on the new installation.

It will not effect all other partitions can you have created or have data on.

After you are sure that you have nothing else from the Windows.old folder, you can delete it by using the disk cleanup utility and click the cleaning of system files on the lower left side of the window.

It would be the only way I know how.

    Hi Matt

I found very interesting Toshiba technical support document in the Knowledge Base, and I think it might be useful to you.

    Windows Recovery 8 & repair
    APS2. Toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm

The 'Refresh' option is primarily a repair technique. It is a good method to return your PC to a known good state while preserving your files and a large part of your configuration. With the option "Refresh your PC", accounts of users, data files and some settings are retained on your PC without the need to create a backup or make choices about what to keep or delete.

This means that the data should not be affected by using the update your PC option.

  • I have a version of Adobe Photoshop 2.0. If I download a new version, it will save all my tags? I have over 10,000 images that are tagged.

I have a version of Adobe Photoshop 2.0. If I download a new version, it will save all my tags? I have over 10,000 images that are tagged.

This will depend on how the tags were saved. If you see the tags in your browser (windows Explorer or mac finder) files, then you should be fine.

If this version of photoshop is located on your computer and works fine, I want to leave until you know how the tags behave when you upgrade. There is nothing that says that you need to uninstall an earlier version. Or at least until you think necessary.

My Hp computer has windows 8 and I had to upgrade to 8.1 windows. Then I had to download the latest version of windows 8.1. And this corrected the problem.

  • Automatic updates of Vista have deleted all the data on my desk.

Recently my laptop Toshiba running Vista business done the automatic updates during the night, the morning I found that he had deleted all the folders, files and icons on my desktop (including the important work files), had changed the wallpaper, reset all my Internet properties and changed the login screen.

What I can do, are very important files.

I tried to restore the system to an earlier date, but this made no difference.

I also tried to contact Microsoft, who acknowledged my report and said they would be back to me within one business day, which was seven days ago.

    Hi mbuk,.

Welcome to Windows Vista answers Forums!

With automatic updates, you want to lose the data stored on the system.

Once removed the HDD data can't be recovered. However, you can use your favorite search engine to browse third-party data recovery software and use this software to recover data.

Note: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

You can also view the following link to recover lost or deleted files and try the steps:
