drive by checking the exclusive rights

Background information. Question will be in bold. Please do not comment on the age of the computer, it is above all a print server and a convenient place to stash data for backup purposes rather than buying an AMENDMENTS which I can't afford right now.

I have an old computer that double-boots for Windows 98SE and Windows XP. It has two hard drives. First primary IDE drive is for the Windows 98SE operating system and the 'My documents' folder, it is mapped to C:\.

The second disc is bigger and partitioned in two, 20 GB is formatted for NTFS contains Windows XP and mapped on D:\ the rest of the disc is formatted to FAT32 and contains most of the data and maps to E:\

If it's important, in Windows 98 XP partition does not appear because it is NTFS, and if the data reader is mapped to D:\

I just tried to right click on the E drive, go to the Tools menu and click 'Check now' to check for errors, and he told me she required exclusive access to the drive and asked if I wanted to plan an audit on the next reboot.

I don't understand why. If this is drive D and that I could understand, but it's the E drive, which has no file system.

I don't remember needing a reboot before except to check the D drive (or drive C in Windows 98), but usually, I check all drives at the same time at least twice a year and let it run during the night. This time, I had reason to suspect corruption on the drive. Is it because it is a partition of the boot drive that she needed a reboot?

Hello

"So that chkdsk must be able to fix or repair a disk must be the only access to the hard disk - the only program program. If any other program has a file open on the disk, so it considered as 'in service', and chkdsk cannot get exclusive access, that he needs. »

  • Impossible to turn off read-only - and I already checked the Security tab

Hello, I use Vista Ultimate.  I'm on my home computer and have full administrative rights.  Have a big problem trying to get the recovery off the power on a personal folder read-only.  It is NOT a folder on a network or is a system folder.  When I go in the folder and click on the Security tab, ALL users have full right to make any changes.    No error displayed whenever I then deselect read only on the general tab, click on or .  But when I re - open the folder and check the properties, read-only is still active.  It's driving me crazy.  HELP!?!?!?!

    And Yes, I tried this:

"To view or to remove the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Vista

    1. Click on start, run, type cmd and press ENTER...
    2. To view the syntax for the Attrib command, Type attrib------? at the command prompt.

To remove the read-only attribute and to set the system attribute, use the following command:

    attrib - r + s drive:------------

For example, to remove the read-only attribute and set the attribute to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command:

    attrib - r + s c:\test

Be aware that some programs may not operate correctly with folders for which the read-only attribute and the system attribute are granted. Therefore, use the following command to remove these attributes:

    attrib - r s by car:------------

For example, to remove both the read-only and the attributes to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command:

    attrib - r-s c:\test

If the run command is not listed in the start menu, follow these steps:

Click Start, click principally made programs, accessories, and then click Run."

And get an error that says: parameter Incorrect Format.

Have you checked to see if the files in the folder are effectively read-only or if the only problem is that the file is checked in read-only?

You may need to go higher in the chain of record because some properties are inherited (see advanced security of the folder until you come to one where the special permissions list including all permissions that are inherited for administrators or your user account). It does not stick because you don't have the permissions and/or ownership to allow you to make the change.  You must have permissions to full right for all folders (both on the main page and in the special permissions list) and you will have to take possession of the records as well.  Then change the ownership and permissions for yourself and administrators and don't forget to check the box for all files and subdirectories.  This should give you what you need to make the changes.  Here is some information that might help.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

  • Deleting a folder gives this message: check the location of the elements, and then try again

I would like to help to get rid of a file. The folder used to hold pictures, but is now empty. I tried the normal removal methods. I also tried to remove prompt all to nothing does not. I tried to use Fileassassin, but it will not work with a folder and also Fileboss time to rename it to 8.3 and remove it but neither work. He will agree to be cut and pasted from images of office etc but will not delete in these two places. Similarly, it can be placed in another folder but still will not remove. Move a file inside does not either.

    Suggestions welcomed!

Check if you have full permissions in the folder and also owner if necessary. Move the folder to your desktop.  Right-click on the folder, and then click Properties, click the Security tab.  Add your username in their own right.  Click Advanced and add your username in its own right to the section of special permissions.  And then click the property tab and make you the owner.  In all three cases, remember to check the box to apply it to all files and subdirectories.  That should give you the permission to delete the file.  If this is not the case, check all the tabs property, including safety to check that nothing is checked to refuse the removal.  The following should help you with this:

    1. open Finder

    2. click on the 'Go' and 'Go to Folder' drop-down list and type "~ / Library /" without the quotes and click on 'Go '.

    3. find the "E-mail" folder, right click and choose 'Get Info'

If you have MacOS Sierra 10.12 new version, it's a little easier:

    1. click the  button and click on 'about this Mac'

    2. click on the storage tab

    3. click on 'manage... '. »

One on the page manage the it will break your storage and show you the storage used by the Applications, Documents, iBooks, iCloud Drive, iOS, Mail, Photos, Trash, and system files.

  • I installed an external USB connected hard drive Seagate, it slowed the computer and check the new disc repeatedly

    Hello

I installed an external USB connected hard drive Seagate to copy some movies and pictures of my HP laptop with Vista, but it became a big problem. It slowed the computer and check the new disc repeatedly. Then it wouldn't start without the external drive at all but it was working fine once he was conducting with the external hard drive. So thinking I can outsmart the computer, I uninstalled the drive from Control Panel. Now it primer not at all. The computer lights up briefly and then goes out of itself almost immediately, is there a solution to this? Thank you

    Original title: startup problem

    Hi SomBhattacharya,

Please try the possible fix following first thanks to Carey Frisch:

    1. open the BIOS of the motherboard.
    2. find where it says Priority Boot Device, then select CD/DVD-ROM 1, 2nd Hard Drive and disable all the rest.
3 find somewhere in the BIOS where it says BOOT USB, Wake on USB, etc. and disable all unnecessary options.

And second if it does not help, you can try the following with Blue Michael:

Local Geek Squad had me intentionally set the BIOS to the correct order, then re-order and SAVE.
It worked, even if the list of the BIOS was always in the right order.

    I hope this helps!

Stop using the laptop. Replace the hard drive with a new one. Get a SATA to usb adapter to connect the old drive (which you will eliminate) to another computer to try to save the data. There is a good chance of data is still recoverable this way.

  • How can I check the version of the firmware on the optical drive on Satellite P200

I am a Satellite P200 and my Tempo suggests to download an update of the firmware to TO35, which only works if I TO33/34, how can I check that I have? I tried searching on my machine, but I guess that the firmware is not the thing to appear in searches. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Hi guys

    > How to check the firmware
You can use a 3rd party program like Nero to burn.
Nero presents the version of current firmware of CD/DVD players

The firmware TO33 or the TO34 should already exist on the TS-L802A drive.
Please check if you have exactly the same drive. TO35 firmware only works with the TS-L802A.

If you have an older version of fimware as TO33 then please post here again!

    *@Voodoo*
You really have a TS-L802A drive. ? How did you check the firmware version?

  • How can I get the installer for my application check the operating system type and then install the correct driver type?

I have a request that I wrote and have been use and distribute for awhile. The installer I created for this application is an additional installer to install a driver for the USB connection. The USB connection is actually a virtual COM Port. The problem is that the people who drafted modified driver setup the installation program itself. They used to have an installer that would check for 32-bit or 64-bit OS and then install the appropriate driver.

Now, they have two distinct installation programs: one for the other for 32-bit and 64-bit. They let the user know their OS and install the appropriate driver. I'd rather not have to rely on my users to do. From what I've seen the creater Installer provides that an executable to be run after the application installs.

Is it possible to have the installer of the application, check the type of OS and then run the correct executable file after installing my application? I think that I could write an Installer 'wrapper' that checks the type of operating system then executes the correct Installer. But I expect a better solution.

    Thank you
    Joe

    So, I make it work!

The trick is to find a way to determine what type of OS you are using. The method I used was, indeed, read the environment variable. A buddy of mine sent me this link:

http://StackOverflow.com/questions/2401756/how-to-find-if-the-machine-is-32bit-or-64bit One of the phrases he bibliography the Processor_Architecture environment variable.

It seemed like a reasonable idea. So I started to research how read LV it environment variables turns out, you do it by reading a registry key. There is an example of LV on how to read a registry key. But I did not know where they are in the registry. So, I searched the Processor_Architecture registry. I found it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment.

According to the article in the link, this value will already be x 86 for a 32 bit OS, or something with 64 inside. I just check the response for x 86 string. If it is, I just run the x 86 version of the driver Installer. Otherwise, I run the x 64 version.

It turned out to be as simple as that.

    I hope this helps someone.

    Hello

What is the number and the model of the computer?

You have the computer floppy drive?

Were there any changes made on the computer before the show?

    Follow the steps:

    Method 1:

Remove all external devices connected to the computer such as printers, scanners and external USB hard drive and check if the problem persists.

    Method 2:

Check the BIOS setting and also, I suggest you to update the BIOS. To update the BIOS, contact the manufacturer or the manufacturer of the access Web site.

Note: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • If I format my pc and do not check the driver, then my hard drive is destroyed. Is this true?

    hard drive Info

HI.some people said that if the pc format and do not really check pilot the destroyed.is hard disk driver or is a fake.thank you

Formatting erases everything, including device drivers.  Driver hard drive is usually part of the motherboard (unless your drive is connected to a PCI card).

So once you reinstall Windows using the default SATA / IDE hard disk driver. Once you install the chipset driver for your matherboard you will use driver disk from the manufacturer of the computer or the motherboard.
