  • CD/DVD Rom will play audio CD but not DVD

    Hello

I am at a loss :( The CD/DVD-rom (ID: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L) in my refuses to Asus computer (Vista 64 Home Premium) laptop to play DVDs now but will read audio CDs, I put in the drive without problem. When I put a DVD in the drive, it will make clicking sounds and then turn and then turn down and then do nothing at all. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution to this problem and have done everything I could find a solution (drivers are up to date, checked registry and was fine, checked reading auto and put all ask me every time, ran auto fix - it and he just says cannot read the media type, uninstalled and reinstalled the drive) etc.).

The drive is displayed in Explorer, but when I double click top with a DVD, nothing happens. I even downloaded the new codecs and I still have this problem. The problem started shortly after I have updated to SP2, and I've even uninstalled SP2 and nothing. I tried system restore and still no dice. I do not say that this problem has nothing to do with the installation of SP2 or anything, but the drive has worked perfectly well before that date. I initially thought that maybe the drive went wrong and think always that after trying all the solutions that I found, but a bad combo player would still be able to play audio CDs without problem?

Any help on this would be much appreciated...

    Thank you

    Hello

Update the BIOS can not help if the drive had worked for a good period of time however it
    is definitely worth it.

You have disk problem as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (burn CD & DVD and CD and DVD read).
Therefore, it is not unusual for 1 or 2 rooms with not so work that others do it properly.

    Several good info here:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

You did a large part of this however please start at the top and work downwards as it is often the total process
    to solve the problem.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both

  • Center of Windows 7 media won't play audio or video files

A month ago, everything was fine, but then a wave of updates for Windows 7 has essentially killed my Media Center.  It is no longer sees my audio files and gives me an audio error when I try to access the library.  He sees my video files, but then gives me a video error.  Still, Windows Media Player can play audio and video files.  I have tried a system restore, went into the control panel and or power off the components of the system, ran the command prompt to use sfc/scannow, nothing helps.  Anyway I can just clean the Media Center and download an uncorrupted version?

We start with a few questions:

1 have had any changes made on the computer before the show?

    2. What is the full and exact error message?

    3. What is the format of audio and video files?

    Method 1:

See the article and try to run the Troubleshooter:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-audio-problems-in-Windows-Media-Center

This article also applies to Windows 7.

    How you copy DVDs?

    You copy personal home-made DVDs
or are they protected commercial DVDs copy?

If the DVD is not protected against copying... What follows
Freeware works for me... maybe it would work for you:

First... just a suggestion... using a slow burn speed
    produces a more reliable copy...

The freeware ImgBurn can create an ISO Image
that allows to burn copies. Once you have the
image created... you can use it to burn as many copies
    as you need.

FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system

  • Satellite A100-049 with Vista--> Win DVD won't play?

Just bought the above. Everything seems great so far (but it was only 2 days) apart from when I try to play a region 2 dvd in the drive. I select WinDVD 8 and it offers the possibility to open from the folder by car. I select 'f' is the disk and the disk rotates upward. No image or its property. The initial screen is right on. (They will play in library car seems fine)

Cannot see everything change and the drive is set to region 2. Research in the "getting started", he says that to the final version of vista, it "may" be necessary to download a patch, but I can't find one.

    Any help appreciated

    Hello

Are you trying to play original DVD?
If your DVD player was attached to another region it is possible that you will not be able to play these DVDs.

You can change the region code in the properties of the drive. But be careful; You can change it only 4 or 5 times (don't remember)
But if you can play movies with MCE so I think you need to change the drive region code.

Have you tried to install some codex? Otherwise, try it!

    Hey, Joe Simssims,

    1. What happens when you insert a DVD in the DVD player?
    2. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    3. Do you have any third-party DVD burning software installed on the computer?
    4. What is the number and the model of the DVD player?

Refer to the article below and run the Fixit tool available, check if it helps.

  • DVD won't play in Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium Media Center.

I tried many DVDs in my Windows 7, 64-bit Home Premium system, and none of them will play in the Media Center, with the exception of a 1955 film that plays without problem. I guess it was a good year. In the lower right corner of the Media Center, a window says: "Play DVD - Windows Media Center cannot detect a video DVD in the DVD - Rom drive. Insert a video DVD in the drive." Apparently, the DVD is not detected. What is a missing codec problem? I read about downloading the Codec of the user, only to cause more problems, and I did a lot of searching for an answer to this and found a countless number of users having problems with DVD in Media Center and no collective solution. How can it be this difficult? What is the problem with Windows 7? Why can I play a DVD of a film of 1955 (Mr. Roberts) and not of today's movies? The only solution that I come up with to this day, even after checking with the maufacturer of my optical drive, should consider buying the codec itself, if that is what is lacking, or a DVD player to possibly of Roxio. But after the piece of hugh of money I paid for my software Windows 7, I would not have bought anything others of another company. I wouldn't think to go back to XP, but I've had far fewer problems. Any help would be appreciated. Don

Hi Mary - thank you very much for your answer. My PC is a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop computer. I just got the phone is turned off after a few hours of troubleshooting with Dell hardware and software services. Dell is sending a technician to replace my optical drive. They hope that clears the problem, but if not, they say that I might have to reinstall Windows 7. This is happening due to your pointing me in the right direction with your post, and troubleshooting I could do before, I called Dell. I had different problems for a while, and maybe they'll finally get fixed. Thanks again, Don Don

Hello. I have burned several dvds of our showcase of dance for participants using first elements 14. Because of the length, I did an image ISO bootable first, then he burned from that. Download and install the latest audio drivers. You can find them in your PC manufacturer's Web site, in the first case, or, failing that, the manufacturer of the sound card / device *.

    * If your audio device is built into your motherboard, go to the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard to get.
