Drive hard - 552 satellite p20 failure

Work on my laptop a few days ago and it crashed all of a sudden. He went really slow and began to clear the files of Windows and does not let me access Norton Anitvirus 2005 or even add/remove windows programs.
Also, when I restart the computer, I get the following message...

«SMART failure detected hard disk 0 - toshiba...»
Back up your data and replace hard drive... "

I wanted to format the computer and do a system restore, but this message appeared again as soon as the computer has been restarted or walk...

Its a new computer, purchased in August 2004...

Any ideas of what I can do without having to send off the computer to Toshiba for repairs?

Ive tried hard diagnosis in Windows and it says that the drive has no errors... However, it is always very slow attack...

Any advice or assistance would be appreciated...

Thank you

Majed

Hello

You speak Active SMART monitor hard drive status? If you want to reinstall the operating system on your laptop, use the restore CD. Put the recovery in device DVD CD. Start Notepad, and then press C button. After that, follow the instructions on the screen.

  • Drive HARD on Satellite C660 failure

    Hello, I have a problem.

I am owner of laptop Toshiba Satellite C660, I bought it two years ago, but I did not extend my warranty.

Unfortunately, six months after my warranty expired, my HARD drive failed. One day he started making weird sounds and the computer was not able to start. I find that my HARD drive is broken and I need a new.

So I ordered a new one, put it in my laptop, installed Windows 7 above (I'm a student and my University give us Windows for free). But there's this problem:

Resolution of my laptop can be changed to two possible options: 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. I don't remember what the resolution that I had before, but I'm 100% sure that it was better, and, what is more important, it is 16:9, not 4:3.

Another problem is that my function key (Fn) are not. So I'm not able to activate my WiFi or Bluetooth, or make my laptop into hibernation.

Can you help me? What should I do?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

At first please be so nice model number and post accurate of your laptop (C660-xxx). I don't know if your laptop comes with preinstalled OS but if yes does I m wondering really you do not have original recovery image.

In any case, after the new installation of the operating system, you must install all the necessary drivers and tools and utilities.
Thanks for posting as soon as possible the model number and can check the Toshiba download page and help you install drivers, tools and utilities.

  • Can not format or partition the drive HARD on Satellite M30

I have a Toshiba Satellite model No. PSM30E
And the system is unable to access the HARD disk.
When I check the Bios setup it can detect the HARD drive.

When I run windows setup to boot from the CD he sees the HARD disk with the correct size, but it cannot create partitions on it or if it can format the HARD drive. I tried the HARD disk partitioning using another system and I was able to partition and format. But when I plug in the laptop he sees just the whole HARD disk in unpartitioned space and also does not format them or partitioning it.

Y at - it shaped a locking mechanism that prevents access to the disk partitioning or setting?
My other question is, perhaps, the problem of the IDE connector?

    Any suggestions or help?

    Hello

I don t think there is something wrong with the IDE controller. Fact is that the BIOS do not show simple partitions but only whole HARD disk size.
I put t know how you tried to format the HARD disk or to create partitions on this disk HARD but in fact different OS uses the standards of different format and this may the reason for your problems!

I think you should try to boot from the original Windows XP CD. Let's launch the setup and format the whole HARD drive and erase all partitions!
I noticed that Toshiba recovery CD couldn t runs correctly on wrong formatted HDD!

  • Question about drive HARD on Satellite L300 recovery

Buy laptop 3 months ago, my son's homework top (40 pages). Laptop has suddenly stopped working. When I try to boot to the top he tries to boot the laptop into repair mode, load files, will load vista then I do gray screen saying (system recovery options) installed program cannot start turn off computer.

Through each f8 routine and only interest is to disable automatic restart in the event of system failure where I get the error message: Stop oxoooooo24 (ox00190444, ox85a6bdeo, oxc0000102, 0x00000000).

Didn't create Toshiba Recovery disk called received set loaded file, it comes finally to a point where them continue it will erase all data on disk. Which is what I don't want. Then takes the disc, but it had loaded enough drivers to allow me to take a look in the back. When I look for drive C, return with an unreadable messagesaying. When I look in the D drive and there are files including a saying HARD drive recovery. (I guess that vista automatically disk partitions)

In all cases any suggestions? There is a single file that I need, which is a document works (wps). Is there anyway I can retrieve the d ' training in HARD drive through back recovery? any suggestions?
If I run the recovery disk it delete both partitions or just work on C:, then through D: I maybee able to recover the document?

    Hello

As I see you have tested all the options using F8.
This means that you have tested safe mode?
You can start a computer laptop in safe mode?

If your work is saved on partition D, you can start recovery facility (F8 fix my computer) and Vista will install again, but all the data saved on the D partition will be there again.
-When you use the recovery disk - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm C partition will be deleted only.
-When you use recovery DVD will be formatted the whole HARD disk.

  • Replacing a drive HARD on Satellite L40

    All greetings!

Replacing a hard drive! Greetings broke a hard drive, before there are clicks.

There is a 120GB, 250GB hard drive in my laptop Satellite L40, I put.

Operating system has created an applied Toshiba drive. Activation of Vista has not required. But she sees the volume of a 130GB disk where got more 120 GB?

Your offers. Probably to fix this?

    Thank you

    Hello!

First of all, what Satellite L40 do you have exactly?

The BIOS recognize the 250 GB or only 120 GB under Windows?
Check if you have the latest version of the BIOS.

Maybe the Satellite L40 does not support hard drives of 250 GB, but in the user manual, you can find more information.

    Good bye

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Satellite P10

I would like to upgrade from my HARD drive, I have not find how proceed (which screws to remove to the opening of the machine). Where can I find explanations?

    Hello

To remove the HARD drive, first remove the battery and optical drive. First you must remove the four black screws that get the aluminum shield covering the HARD drive. After that take it out.

Gently pull the HARD drive towards the front of the computer to disconnect the system board, and then take it out. The last step is to remove the four screws that attach the HARD drive to the HARD disk case.

    Good luck!

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Satellite Pro M10

Are there requirements on what kind of HD, I can use,

for example it does not matter if I chose one of them (not thinking of which one will be faster):
    Toshiba MK6026GAX 60GB (5400 RPM, ATA-6, 16 MB)
    Toshiba MK6032GAX, 60GB (5400 RPM, ATA-6, 8 MB)
    Toshiba MK6034GAX 60 GB (5400 RPM, ATA100, 8 MB)

    with sincere friendships.
    Vincent Jansen

I don t think that there might be a problem with these drives.
A HARD disk supports an ATA100. But if the controller of the laptop will not support the ATA100 laptop will not use the full transfer of performance and data on the HARD drive. That all the s, but the BIOS should recognize the HARD drive without any problem

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Satellite C850

I found this Toshiba on Youtube video that shows how to replace the hard drive on the C850.
    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=0550V-181d0

It helped me a lot, because there is NO entry in the user manual on how to replace it and where the hard drive can be placed.

They show you where is the memory, but not where is the hard drive. WTF? so, this video tells you it's in the same slot for memory.

    Hello

Yes, I also noticed that not all information can be found in single user manuals.
However, there are many other sources to find essential details.

Toshiba Europe youtube channel seems to offer a lot of useful videos to replace the HARD drive, memory or a drive CD/DVD in the different laptop models.

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Satellite C series

    Hello

I want to replace and upgrade my hard drive internal sata, what is the maximum size that I can install which will fortunately be recognized by BIOS / chipset?

    Hello

SATA controller isn't limited to a specific size of the HARD drive.
Generally, you can use 2.5 SATA HDD support any size (250 GB, 500 GB, etc.)

But have you considered using a SSD drive? I prefer SSD drive, even if these discs are more expensive. The performance is much better and believe me; the performance gain will be noticeable.

  • Drive HARD on Satellite L750-22Z recovery error

    Hello

I tried to do HARD drive recovery. It was fine until instaliation. And after the 1% error message (1117) maybe someone knows what is a problem?

How do I recover HARD drive without errors L750-22Z?

    > How to HARD disk without errors L750-22Z recovery?
Very interesting question. If the recovery image is ok there is no reason for the message error.

Did you create the recovery disk?
If so try to install the recovery image using the recovery disk.

  • Need to replace drive HARD for Satellite 2450

My hard drive is about to die and I can't find a replacement/Exchange. Does anyone know how? References to this topic are 000601002 TOSHIBA 03152 S. Toshiba support said they dropped the product.

    Hello

You n t need to buy especially this HARD drive device. You can buy a new one that supports the same old properties HDD Splendido.

To my knowledge the 2450 Sat supports an enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface. In this case, you can buy the HDD IDE.

Please have a look also to the size of the HARD drive sometimes the BIOS could not recognize the HARD drive because of the limitation of the size.

What size did you use? 40 GB? In my eyes, you can use a HARD drive between 20 and 60 GB.

    Hello world

Is it possible to install a HD-DVD drive on my P20?

My screen is dead, so I'm going to use this machine as a dedicated library attached to my TV.

If I install an HD-DVD player, this would help a lot.

  • Total crash after drive HARD on Satellite A300 recovery

Well at first, my computer has started making weird as I was not able to use firefox or msn because it said that there is no connection. But he has shown there is a link and my download manager was still in download. So I rebooted my pc and he could not establish a connection, so finally I could connect via my Iphone but would not start my normal lan connection working again.

So I thought that I would back up my documents and just reinstall my pc everything. I used the key f8 at startup and it said everything its supposed to say and I clicked on reset of cloth (or something like that). So he started upward and it installed after he made a mistake. Although he has started to configure vista, so I thought it would be perfect. But when it restarts it does the toshiba startup thing, then a loud beep with a total black screen.

I tried to do the recovery again, but he has not given the option when you press f8. I have tried every thing remedy, but nothing has worked.

Finally I managed to install vista on a drive that that I still had my computer from a different manufacture.

But now it won't install windows updates (it downloads but gives an error) and many of the drivers are missing wich when I install them will not work.

Is it possible, this can be corrected? I always recovering files on my d partition, but it will not repair your thing of the computer that you get when you press f8.

    Hello!

It's strange because normally everything should work after using the recovery disk and all drivers must be installed.

In your case, I'll try to reinstall Windows with the recovery disk again. You should maybe before the format of the HARD drive with the Microsoft installation disk, then using the recovery disk.
Also, did you create the recovery disk? You can do this with the recovery disk creator and it s preinstalled on your computer.

Good luck and tell me what happened.

    Good bye

  • Drive hard short self-test failure and how to recover my data if HD packages in, also how 2 recovery to win 8.

I have a computer dell laptop vostro 2520 it is the only 2mths old, already I'm short self-test failiers whenever I have an HD test!. It still works very well, but im worried he's going at any time!  The diagnostic test via (f12) after start-up also breaks down the hard drive but all the rest! I have the windows 8 support of recovery disk os only, comes with the cd of the laptop, the resources and the media and have backup on a given traveller! I'm not very good when it comes to pc but im learning! can I use discs that I have to re - install win 8? or if I do an image of the original system which allows? any help with these would be awesome! im not that familiar with computers as ive already said how do I a more thorough test to find out exactly what is causing the problem? Thank you for taking the time to read this and give me your comments. Dee.

The hard disk will fail for sure either sooner or later, but it is a good idea to take a new hard drive and replace it with the old.

You can use the Windows 8 installation CD/DVD to reinstall Windows 8 in the future. If the system breaks down suddenly and you have not taken any backup of important files, creating full system image is always recommended.

    Good luck!!

  • Need a new HDD for my Satellite P20

The hard drive in my Satellite P20 was dead. It is a 60 GB drive, but I decided to replace it with a 100 GB drive. The problem is that on the P20 connectors do not seem to be the norm. Looks like the machine needs a player owner. Anyone know where I can get the replacement of hard drives for the P20?
I searched the internet but can't seem to find anything...

    Hi John,.

I'm not very 'exclusive' awareof drive for the P20. I think that it is a 2.5 drive "conventional with a standard pin configuration.

I know that the use of range Portege 1.8 disc "format.

Is it possible that there is an adapter to allow the reader to be realigned with the pin sockets?

If you can post the details of the car (model no etc), that would give a clue as to the type of drive you have.

    Kind regards
