Drive hard full cannot explain

HP Mini1000, FQ729AV, WinXP PC

A 16 GB hard drive. In Explorer, I right click on C: in the left pane, and then click Properties. It shows that the used space is 16 + GB, free space is 326 KB. Then I go to the left with the directories pane and visible root directory files. I Higlight all, left click, and then click Properties. He said that the size of everything is 6.6 GB. Where are the other 9 or 10 GB? I run clean disc, downloaded and executed CClearner, but has not helped. I'm puzzled.

Mike

Use Disk Cleanup to delete all but the most recent restore point, run Disk Cleanup by right click on the C drive, select Properties, then click on 'disk cleanup', when it is made of calculation and the window opens, click on 'remove system files' it will be re - calculate, when the window opens again you will notice you have one tab 'other options' that wasn't there before Click on it and press the button 'clean up' in the System Restore section.

I have a hard drive SSD 240 GB and until recently, I've only had about 90 GB free. Recently, I received a message that the car was full. I eliminated all the usual suspects and recovered 60 GB, but with a couple of weeks, it was new and no software has been added. Once again, I have eliminated temporary files, etc. and recovered only 9 GB and some 15 minutes, it was down to 6 GB!

I looked in all the flders and couldn't find what occupies disk space, anyone have any ideas?

    Thank you, Brian

  • PE2950 with ^ TB drive HARD, but cannot have > 2 TB partition

    Hello

I have some weird problems with my new PE2950 with HARD SAS of 6x1TB drive.

With RAID 5, I can use the BIOS to create a RAID 5 (about 4.5 TB of space).

However, I can't use more than 2 TB. I read that if a cluster size increase, I can easily use 2 TB, 4 TB or more. But I can use only 1.9 TB (100 GB was used for Windows 2003 at the root). The remaining 2.6 TB becomes "unallocated" and unusable.

In addition, by using the Dell Instalation CD, there is no option to format the partition 'installation' in any other cluster size...

  • Satellite M200 Vista shows that the HARD drive is full of 98%

This problem showed about 2 months ago the system started running slowly and after a bit of research, I went to computer and found he showed that the HARD drive was full of 98%. Then I went and disabled the feature of shadow copy that reached about 3 Gig. After that, the performance was still hurt, so I decided to do a system restore. All reformatted once was good again until a week ago, and the same problem came back once again.

This laptop is running Vista Home Premium SP1, 120 Gig drive HARD, Kaspersky Anti-virus, it has very limited connection to the Net, as it is mainly used to store and transfer music on an Ipod (20 GB of music).

Any thoughts? Maybe a hardware failure?

    Thanks in advance.

    Craig.

Hardware failure is very likely, since you are clearly able to access your hard disk without problem.
Looks like you are using software that could be gradually fill the hard drive with data, such as a log file, it is difficult to say.
With the erosion of the space, you might want to periodically check each folder in drive C (right click, properties) and see how it changes for each new session.

Also clean the temporary files would help such as for:

    "c:\temp".
    "c:\windows\temp".
    "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp.
erase internet files of Internet Explorer cache / temporary
deactivation and reactivation then "System Restore" (do this only if you are satisfied with Vista is running stable)

  • I have a 45 GB hard drive which gives a msg of disk is low, but can only account for about 15 GB used. Run Disk Cleanup, but it did not help. I'm looking for why the drive is full?

There is nothing huge load on the computer.  No photos, no videos and some documents.
Even displays hidden files and still no explanation.
Working on SP2... not enough space to install SP3.

    Download and run JDiskReport: http://www.jgoodies.com/freeware/jdiskreport/index.html

This will show you what files take up space.

You can run the disk cleanup tool (start > run > cleanmgr > OK), but if you still get low disk space message, I suspect that it's your System Volume Information directory.

You must "show the hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" to see this directory, but it isn't something to mess with casually and the system normally will prevent you to do so.

The IVR directory includes the restore points created by system restore and the database of indexing created if you let Windows index your drive.

If you have not changed the default, the system restore will take up to 12% of your drive hard or about 5.4 GB of your 45 GB drive.  See http://bertk.mvps.org/html/diskspace.html as fill you the disk, the system restore can produce some of its space, but, in doing so, it will generate these warnings "low disk space".  If you're curious, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300044

Windows XP provides a feature called the "Indexing Service" which can speed up the file searching in some cases.  As a general rule, speed is not overhead, both in system for indexing resources happens in the database index files that take place in the IVR directory.  See, for example, http://lifehacker.com/#! 031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp

  • Mystery needs Solution! Drive hard dv6258se

    Hello

I recently got an error #1-07 on my test diagnostic message and decided to replace my hardrive.  I checked the specs for my box and ordered a SSD drive suitable to replace the original disc.  Or at least I thought it was the original drive.  The form of State that my box comes with a SATA I drive, but the bios and Device Manager claim that the drive is SCSI.  My box has been recalled twice to correct the defects/factory model, pourrait HP replaced the SATA drive with SCSI drive during this time?  I check the model number two disks to check what they are, but that did not really help since the original Toshiba MK1234GSX both the new 830 SSD from Samsung come in SATA and SCSI.  I checked the Samsung is SATA, but cannot confirm the Toshiba.

I could format and restore the SSD from the restore disks, but restarting failed and the bios did not find the hard drive.  Subsequent attempts to restart grew up a NVIDIA, read error.  When I put the disc Toshiba back in it starts but is still VERY slow.  Click, wait 10 minutes, click, wait...

Everything I read on the State of the boards that the default value of the bios is SATA, but retoring bios factory settings has not solved the problem.

What is going on?  Please help and advise.

    Thank you.

PS being new I accidentlally posted in the wrong place: you will find a more detailed description in the Desktop section, where I posted recently submitted: hp dv6258se drive hard toshiba appearing as SCSI but spec says SATA

Yes, him talking about HP guy to me and I even found many other complaints about the disks SATA is read as a SCSI, it was a common occurrence from 06-08 and then had no performance impact that is a possible reason why the SSD is not compatible in theory it should be.

.. .He explained that because player plugs directly into the motherboard and the chipset software is only formatted to read things a specific way that it will NEVER be read a SATA as a SATA, which might be why the dv6000 are not able to recognize any SSD.  I.E. HP dv6000 is capricious and has a few quirks, if SSD does not occur.

So I'm going to buy a traditional HD, a cert HP technician think I should be able to go as high as a 500 GB HD, but I really just to get my box of operation, so I agree with a 120 GB.

Thanks for your help solved mystery.

  • New drive hard problems

    Guys,

I wonder if someone can help me.

I need to add additional hard disks to several virtual machines and use the vSphere PowerCLI v5.1 against a vCenter Server running 5.1.0b.  When I try to add the disc using the cmdlet new-hard drive, I get the following error:

New-harddisk: all parameters can be solved using the specified named parameters.

The full syntax of the command to run is:

new drive hard vm - WinXPMstr - capacityGB 100 - diskpath "[MV] WinXPMstr/1234.vmdk".

    Thank you

    Paul

You mix the different parametersets of the cmdlet New - hard drive settings.

In your case CapacityGB and DiskPath cannot be used together.

The startup disk is just another name for your hard drive. So if you are out of space on this subject, you can't can are either not now or is on the point.

    You have a backup?

If you do not one as soon as POSSIBLE. Use an external drive for this.

    Hello
first of all thank you for your time.

    Model: Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R)

The problem started yesterday, the computer has been going slowly as a closed application, so I held the off button until the pc is turned off. When I restarded the laptop, it went to a screen saying: start windows normally or repair Windows (recommended)

When started normally it hangs just a blank screen, repair Windows recommends a system restore to a previous point that did not work. As it crashes again. I tried pressing F8 and boot in safe mode, but even once it just hangs. Then, after having repeatedly tried safe mode and another system restore the computer then hangs when I press F8. After that, the computer passes in front of the Toshiba logo with F2 and F12 options screen (which still works) and then it rises the initialization has failed then shuts off and comes with start-up bootfailed failed with a few numbers and letters, then it goes to a small box entitled menu starting with 4 options. I do not understand why it has gotten worse over time. Can anyone think why it occurred and more importantly, how can I get my pc working again? Note: held 0 then start does nothing for me atm

    Best regards, Matthew

    Hello Matthew,.

To be honest, I agree with Akuma and it could be related to a dysfunction of HDD the error you described, but ensure 100% there s no software problem, you should try the Toshiba Recovery disk Windows installation. Something may be confused until the Windows installation and recovery of files on the HARD drive, so it cannot be started. Recovery disc will resolve this problem by formatting the HARD drive and restoring the settings box.

If it still doesn t it work s hardware malfunction but an authorized service provider can solve these problems under warranty for free. So just contact the guy and ask for help. ;)

If you have other questions or already solved the problem, please let us know!
