My boot drive is full

I get a notice that my boot drive is full. What exactly is my boot drive? And how is it different from space on my hard drive? Is there something specific that takes up space? My computer is not so old (2015 MacBook Pro).

The startup disk is just another name for your hard drive. So if you are out of space on this subject, you can't can are either not now or is on the point.

You have a backup?

If you do not one as soon as POSSIBLE. Use an external drive for this.

1 n ° put them on a regular external drive and the value of Time Machine to back up as well; the files you want to keep should be at least two disks in case one of them goes down.

Download the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all your files and respective sizes. Transfer to an external HARD disk or remove files, that you no longer want on your MBP.

Don't forget to empty the trash. Then only the space is allocated for the new data.

  • The boot on my iMac drive is full for the docking station does not,.

My boot drive is full, so will not show the dock, I can't see the files to delete and make more space. Safari works well, and the files on the drop down menu Apple I have opened recently, always open, so I don't think that the iMac is broken - full. How can I get files to delete and make more room?

Start safe mode and delete or move files and applications is no longer, you need or use ff of the drive up you jave enough space. DO NOT delete system files or you could end up with a very unstable system. You can move large libraries like your music, pictures and videos on an external drive.

Carbon Copy Cloner has a very nice interface for the selection of the trees of subdirectory to copy.  Of course if you do not include the operating system, it will not be a bootable clone.

CCC has a fully active 1 month demo mode.  The saved data is good forever after the demo expires.

Personally, I just do a full 100% clone and then choose what to restore later.  For this

    Carbon Copy clone

SuperDuper (a full clone is always free; updated to incremental update of a clone and backup schedule pay you for)

Disk utility-> Restore, unless restore you the disk with your data backup on a backup drive

  • UEFI BIOS access, change Boot Drive order to SSD - arrgghhh

    810 new - 170st.  Added a Samsung 840EVO SSD.

The intention for SSD as boot drive.

Ran Wizard Samsung, software data Migration run. All successful.

Cannot access bios to change the boot drive order.

You also have to switch to ACHI mode for full implementation of the DSS.

When I click to enter advanced settings the icon records the click... nothing happens.

I understand that I must go through the UEFI

    VERY frustrating.

    Any help?

Hey Dean.  Thanks for the note.  Not sure that I can accurately describe the nightmare of everything but I will try.

BIOS would repeatedly freeze mode back or vertical menu.  I only had 2 minutes to make a change.

The factory setting was also Raid!  With a single disk.  Superb.

He spent two hours on the phone with technical support in the East. First call spent 1/2 hour then had massive language issues. Then bad attitudes and after having finally got a supervisor on the phone, he yelled at me because I added an SSD as if I had the nerve, which makes the system that I wanted it to be.  VERY unprofessional.

Result: Finally got BIOS to work by unplugging everything including power supply, keyboard/mouse USB and network.  Pressed the power button / stop for 10 seconds.  It resets the BIOS.

Still wouldn't see the new SSD as boot however drive.

After shouting by the controller to support, so I finally did what I should have done 2.5 hours earlier.

I made records.  Pulled the battery and under BIOS.  Unplugged the HARD drive, installed the SSD, and factory reinstalled the system on the SSD.  Taken from the HARD drive, formatted, it on my HARD drive and reinstalled duplicator.

End result...?  Works like a monkey violated today.

Just be aware when you reset the BIOS like this, at the start, the fan of the machine runs at high speed for 1 to 2 minutes.  Looks like one of my 2900 quad-processor poweredge servers!  Then he stops, restarts at a more normal speed of fan and all is well.  I mention this so that someone can think that the machine is about to take off like a Lear jet!

Thanks for the help and advice.

  • Help: First is my complete boot drive, but I put everything to an external hard drive.

The iMac I use is for the sole purpose of editing and nothing else. I have no idea what did my full boot drive, and I can't locate the files, which fill the boot disk, except the fact that he told me that I'm out of space. The startup disk is a 250 GB SSD, the second internal drive is 1 TB of HARD drive. All my first and the video files are loaded ton has 4 TB G-RAID.

Where are your media cache files go?  This setting is separate from the "scratch disks".  You can find it in the media section of preferences in the Edit menu.

Ensure that the media Cache settings are both media Cache database on one drive other than your system drive.

  • Should project files I absolutely to be stored on the boot drive by FCP 6

Hello. I always understood that the FCP 6 project files must be stored on your boot drive and would like to know if it is still the recommended location (and why in this case) or I can store them on a 2nd internal drive or an external drive without any degradation of performance. My boot drive is a SSD drive and I would like to write him as little as possible. Thanks for any input from anyone.

  • Save no internal boot drive in a Mac Pro 2009

I have a Mac Pro 2009 with 4 internal drives.  I keep my photo files on one of the disks not bootable and I would like to make automatic backups of him to another internal drive.  I can do this in a Terminal using rsync, but I wonder if there is an incremental backup program to achieve this.  What I read in the Apple Support, Time Machine backs up only the boot drive.

Time Machine backs up everything being told, in order to use it. It meets your requirements.

  • Bootcamp partition is not as boot drive, after running bootcamp to install Windows 10 on MacbookPro 15 "El Capitan running

    Hello

I'm trying to install 10 Windows on my Macbook Pro. I followed this guide, but I am stuck between steps 3 and 4. In disk utility, I see that the bootcamp partition is created, but it does not appear as boot drive. I also tried to start my mac while pressing the option key, but still it will not show.

See below for a screenshot that shows the current state of my machine.

How can I continue to install 10 Windows on my Mac?

Your BOOTCAMP partition internal not yet have Windows installed on it.  If you're between steps 3 and 4 (the installation procedure standard), your, assistant Boot Camp should automatically rebooting your computer after partitioning, from the installation media (Windows 10 CD), you must have created.  I assume that you already have a Windows 10 installation disk.  Make sure that the disc is inserted when you first enter assistant Boot Camp and you let the computer restart on its own.

  • HP EliteBook 8730w: replacement of SSD for the boot drive not recognized

I'm trying to install a Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB instead of the original 500 GB HDD in my Elitebook 8730w (product no. VF889PA #ABG). The 8730w has the latest BIOS (F.20) installed and that is running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (fully patched).

When it is connected to the laptop through a USB adapter, to clone the HARD disk image. the SSDS works correctly. Cloning through data Migration Samsung is reported as a success, and the image of the C:\ drive occupies approximately 153 GB. The image of the disc does not include the partition of 1 GB dedicated to HP_TOOLS, due to a known limit of the Samsung software supplied.

When it is installed in the HARD drive Bay. the SSD is not recognized as a drive and does not appear in the list of startup options. The available boot options only shown are the DVD or a network boot.

would be very grateful for any advice on the steps required to successfully install the Samsung SSD as boot drive.

    Hmmm.
Honestly no, I'm not happy with this one. If it was my machine, I'd be a little concerned about whats the corner of the street. In view of the age, is not surprising really, things wear out over time, the mere fact of electronics.

Search through everything you have posted, all photos, pdf, all the text double checking. I am absolutely puzzled as to what happened. If you 100% does not reinstall the hard disk between the posts above where no HARD drive is detected in the menu boot options for the post below that where the HARD drive is detected in the same menu. I would say that you have a problem with either, the ssd, the computer motherboard laptop or the small connector on the sata port, I think on these is integrated on the motherboard, so it seems that your advice is doubtful.
If his works now, great... but be aware that your machine can fail at some point in the near future. And it looks like a defect of the motherboard, other things are probably waiting to fail.

There is no reason whatsoever your laptop must not have seen this ssd at first startup. A HARD drive is a HARD disk, if its compatible sata, then it will work, no doubt. When he is not on an older machine, its probably a sign of a faulty component.

Looking through your bios options, I recommend the following.

On startup options, get rid of internal nic pxe boot, that will only slow your machine at startup as it will seek for a network bootable device. This is the message that you get at startup saying Media Test Failure, this page is preventable with this option disabled.
Less built lan/wlan switching on enabled in the options of the terminal, also change. This means that if you use wifi at home for example and you decide to plug in a cable network directly to the router to speed up the connection, it will not pass if it is not defined, you will have to do it manually. I work in a large company and the number of people who have this option is unreal. They all assume when they are docked they will on the wired connection.

Because we are here too, if you ever have problems with a flickering screen, first thing to try, is disable the ambient light sensor which is just below this option of switching. Its fine on normally, but its quite common on 8560p for this causes a flickering screen.

Hope that helped. Good luck in what you decide to do with the machine

  • Accidentally partitioned my boot drive.

Thinking I was partition an external drive, I partitioned my boot drive of 1 gig in 3 equal partitions. Things seem to be good, but is it possible to easily disable partition or do I have to reformat the hard disk and reinstall from my backup time machine?

    Thank you

    Andy

Open disk utility, select the disk, delete the second and third partitions and resize the first to the capacity of the drive.
