Drive modes and instant maximum size

Hi all

Just a quick question. I use vSphere ESXi 4.1 (latest updates/patches) and EMC CX4-120 FC SAN. Can you freely switch between disc modes, for example non-independent for independent/persistent and then return non-independent with affect the data residing on the modified disks. I was wondering I have a very large drive I want to exclude a snapshot, but it maybe a chance later I want I can change this disk return to dependent mode so I can include the disk in the future snapshots. Also is there a VMware rule for size max a drive can be entered shoud not be taken because it is too big?

Thank you

Craig

The maximum size of drive to create a snapshot depends on the size of the block of the data store. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1012384

You can change it back between independent and normal such as when you use storage vMotion.

    Hello

I have a problem with shrink disc. I have a virtual machine with the five disc (all thin). In the tab of the vmware tools shrink the message that 'shrink is disabled for this machine. I checked the article in the link:
    http://www.VMware.com/support/WS5/doc/ws_disk_shrink.html
and I think that all the conditions are correct for a fret on this virtual machine:
    1. the disc are a provisioning. I used vmkfstool to convert it to thin.
    2. the virtual machine has no snapshots.
    3. the virtual machine does not have the physical disks.
    4. I test with independent labels in persistent mode and no independent record. None of this works.
    5. the virtual disk is stored in a logical unit number.

I would like to know what I should do to shrink disc. I have another question. The machine has five disks, each of them in a provisioning.  A disc is the maximum size, 2 TB. If I try to make a snapshot, you receive an error that the file size in the destination disk. The working directory of the virtual machine is in a store of data with 200 GB of free space. I would like to know if I need to store data from 2 TB to make the snapshot or just need to the fret to 2 TB - 16 GB (the overload limit comments in the article http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1012384( )

So, really I need a store of data with 2 TB of free space?

It is not the free space on the disk that prevents you from taking a snapshot, it's the maximum possible size of the snapshot Delta. As this file, which contains data and metadata - could reach a size unsupported, VMware does not able to create such a file. If you want to be able to take pictures, the maximum size of the virtual disc service is 2 to less 16 GB (maximum size of metadata in the snapshot file) as mentioned in the article.

    Hello

What is the limit of file size (max and min) on the font file for loading custom fonts?

I have search the Forum and found a comment by Peter_strange.

"The documentation says 60 K or 90K depending on how load you, 90 K if you load a an InputStream memory."

But I want to be sure, share please if someone has the info.

    Thank you.

    Pradeep thanks for your clarification.

Now, I checked that there is no limit of min file size and maximum file size limit is 90 KB for load of cases and 60 KB in case of direct load flow.

  • After Effects for export and the maximum size of the file

    Hello

I'm new to the area of the entire animation and have a question of export format.

My project is set to 1920 x 1080 (29 seconds) and I need to export less than 100 MB for display on the web at about 1090x620px (Australian standards). The accepted formats are mpg/mp4/flv/avi/mov/wmv. Someone has any advice on the best export settings in this case?

    Thanks heaps for all help.

    =) The

What do you mean by 'the Australia Standard?  1090 x 620 no standard exists to my knowledge.

The file size of 100MB for 29 seconds video online is huge, and I can't imagine any web viewer sitting around waiting 10 minutes for the 29 seconds of the video to download.  What, precisely, do you online with this file?  Wherever it is affected and who is the audience target?

In Australia, among the main companies of distribution of media TV is AdStream.  They distribute 30 second standard def TV commercials for television networks to the Quicktime H264 format.  They ask files compressed to 15000 kbps, resulting in sizes of files about 30 to 40 MB for a TVC 30 sec.  Maybe that's a good basis for your own encoding, according to what the goal is.

But, as I mentioned earlier, it is strictly for viewing online, I would aim to keep the size of your much smaller file - 10 MB max.

Yes, you can do it. The minimum must be large enough to contain an image of the core. If the maximum is too small, you will get the unpleasant results.

This article has some tips on the size of the page file at the end.

  • Failure of hard drive in Dimension 8250, the maximum size and the type of replacement tips please

Dimension 8250 (Feb 2003), Windows XP Home SP2, 60 GB HDD, 512 MB of RAM, BIOS A01 - entirely standard

My hardrive suffers from weird deaf noise for a few months, but last week, it was a lot worse. Sometimes it starts up and is ok, othertimes it takes 1 hour to start and everything produces the deaf noise and is so slow, that it's unusable and other times simply clunks and not even start.

    Error messages received:

    (a) "drive Dell, monitoring system has detected that drive 0 on the primary Eide controller is out of normal, backup specifications and replace the HARD drive.

    (b) "error was detetcted on the HARD disk during the paging operation" (in the event viewer)

    (c) "driver detetcted a controller the HARD disk error" (in the event viewer)

    (d) when I run the Dell IDE Drive Diagnostics (F12), it says FAILED return Code 6

    Issues related to the:

    (1) am I correct that the drive needs replacement?

    (2) I want to just keep it very simple and buy a drive and adapt it, do not worry about BIOS or other upgrades. What I do pay attention to the size car that I buy, is there a maximum size that I can have with BIOS A01? Maybe thought to 120 GB? I just want to be able to adapt, without having to play around with BIOS upgrades so simply the easiest option, which is to buy, set up and reinstall the software. So, is there any limitation integrated with BIOS A01? The recovery CD is XP SP 1

    (3) am I correct that the PC supports up to 100 ATA if you need to make sure that I buy ATA 100 no ATA 133?

    (4) original drive is Hitachi, Seagate Barracuda would be better?

    (5) think active drive a 2 MB cache, a cache 8 MB drive would work ok without me having to pay anything and if yes is it useful on the 2 MB cache?

    Thanks for your time.

  • PowerEdge 2970 Service Tag: NOTES from the ADMIN: maintain the label removed by privacy policy > issue of maximum size of HARD drive

This server gave to us (a non-profit). I it upward and the work, but we need to order some new HARD drives for it. I downloaded all manuals and any other information that I could find. It seems that I have seen that there is a maximum size of 1 TB, but I can't find that.

Can you point me in the right direction?

    Thank you, Alan

2 TB is the largest disk will take care of any of the "RAID" controllers for this server. Mode no RAID, I heard that the SAS 6/iR will support larger disks. Away office/computer laptop/NAS discs and stick to the readers of enterprise class if you are using a PERC.

  • What is the maximum size of HARD drive, I use in my dc7600 CMT

I use a HP dc7600 CMT, which works well after the upgrade to a Samsung 128 GB SSD Intel Pentium D 3.4 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6450. I'm under Win 8.1 Pro x 64, with the most recent upgrade and have absolutely no problem. Now, I want to add a second internal HDD and I wonder what is the maximum size that I can go to. I can't go up to 2 TB, or am I limited to a lower number? 1 TB? 500 GB? 250 GB?

Will be happy to help here, especially if he actually tried to apply in practice.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards

    Hello:

In theory, you'd be limited to 2 TB.

The biggest HARD drive I have ever installed in my dc7600 CMT was a 1 TB of HDD, so I can't confirm that a 2 TB drive will absolutely work.

  • Portege R100: Question on the maximum size of HARD drive

    Hello

I understand the internal player on the R100 is an ATA5 (Enhanced IDE), I've only used the IBM (now HGST) readers, they do a decent-sized on ATA6 disc, I guess, it will take the player that will support ATA5 as the controller on the R100 is ATA5 only.

As for the size, what is the maximum size can I ride in this unit?

The orginal is 5.4 width x depth x 7.9 height 8 mm. Can I assume all 1.8 inch drive will fot or is it a mine field?

    Thank you very much
    Ashley

    Hello

AFAIK the R100 was delivered with a 30GB and 40GB HDD.
I found an info that the hard drives are compatible:

    HDD1422: Width (mm) 54.0; Height (mm) 5.0 0.15; Depth (mm) 78.5 0.3
    MK2003GAH: Width: 54.0, height: 8.0, depth: 78.5
    HDD1384: Width: 54.0 0.2, height: 8.0 0.15, depth: 78.5 0.3
    HDD1524: Width: 54.0 0.2, height: 8.0 0.15, depth: 78.5 0.3

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - what is the maximum size of HARD drive?

My age Satellite Pro 4600 has a 20 GB HARD drive. These are now very difficult to obtain, does anyone know if superior capacy HDDs can be used and, if so, what is the maximum size of the HARD drive.

(Despite his age that I always use the Satellite Pro for some jobs).

    Hello John

Satellite Pro 4600 is old enough for laptop and it is not easy to find the exact info. The fact is that this laptop comes with 10 and 20 GB hard drives.
My opinion is that you can use 30 or even 40 GB HDD. I think that 30 GB new HARD drive should be enough for your some jobs.

    What do you think?

  • Y at - it a maximum size of HARD drive internal to a Satellite Pro A120

Is there a maximum size of disk HARD internally for a Satellite Pro A120?
I tried a 320 HDD int Tosh and had problems with continuous boot.

I have the BIOS update (March 08)

    > Is there a maximum size of disk HARD internally for a Satellite Pro A120
    Yes, I think so.
The BIOS doesn't support all sizes of HARD drive!

In my opinion, teething problems are associated with the large size of HARD drive and advise to use a smaller HARD drive.

  • Satellite L40 - what is the maximum size of HARD drive?

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L40, model number PSL4CL - 001 with 80 GB HDD (SATA) 00C. I need to buy a new bigger hard drive, but I don't know the maximum size that I can use my laptop?

Can I get a new one with 500 GB or I shouldn't buy one more 250 or 320 GB?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can buy each HARD drive you want. Your laptop is equipped with a SATA interface for HARD disk and there is no limit of capacity as on the old IDE interface. So, a 500 GB model should work correctly on your laptop.

If you buy a new one make sure that it s a portable 2.5 HARD drive with SATA interface. All that s! :)

    I hope I could help a bit.

    Good bye

  • Satellite 5200 - maximum size of HARD drive

    Hello
I have several times successfully updated my hard drive in my 5200-701.
I am running a 100 GB HD as the primary drive and a 120 GB hard drive in the Bay of style.
Unfortunately, I'm out of new space and want to step up to a 160 GB or even HD 200 GB.
Does anyone know if there are no restrictions in the maximum size of a disk?
I'm not an expert, but it tickles my mind that there was a moment where there is a limit of 132 GB, but that might have had something to do with Windows NT or 2000.
I am running XP but always in the SP1 Version.

    Best regards
    Henning

    Hello Henning

It is very useful to know that 5200 Satellite can work well with the HDD. You will be very happy if someone has tested the limits of capacity of HARD disk with this device. It's that there is no official document on this subject.

As far as I know the maximum capacity of the HARD drive depends on the BIOS and not the operating system. I heard that the hardware (specialized for the hardware upgrade) can manipulate BIOS to work with hard disks of high capacity.
