  I installed a new HARD drive on my xps 15 because the old drive crashed. Everything works fine and the system boots perfectly.   The mSATA drive is used as a cache for the hard drive dynamic - these are essentially implemented in a RAID 0 array.  See the link below (it is for Alienware, but applies to your system as well).

  My recommendation would be to restore using the image of MR (Macrium Reflect) you did.

  But then, I used Mr. on all my PCs for years and am a big fan - having had it Miss ever in the years and years of use.

  You will need boot from the boot of MR media (you did that right) and, if you photographed all the required partitions for the operating system, restore it on the new drive should take a few minutes, and when this is done, you reboot and everything should be OK.

  Sometimes recovery CD are dependent on the architecture of a hard drive.  If it is different from the original disc, then we have problems.

  In this case, the best thing you could do is contact HP and see if this is the case.  If it is not why this happens, they should be able to help you as well because they are the ultimate authority on their recovery process.

  As you say you don t want to use a mirror mode, but then you must set the RAID0 stripping!
