Duplicate name on the network with WRT160N v1

I get the error "a duplicate name exists on the network" on all my computers.  I just started getting this error about a week ago.  I don't change anything on the network and have had this router WRT160N v1 (with the latest version of the firmware) for about 6 months now.  I spoke with Linksys support and they told me to rename all my computers and reboot the router... which only bypassed the question for 1 day.    In addition to the inconvenience of the error, the only thing it crashes me to connect to any other computer via a mapped network drives.  Print on network printers and internet work very well.

I wonder if a Windows Update is the cause of this, but not sure.

Here is my network configuration:

I have a simple network of peer to peer with 5 workstations and 1 portable wireless.

All workstations use DHCP except 1 which behaves like a file server with a static IP address.

All the workstations are XP Pro and laptop is Vista professional.

WRT160N v1 router DHCP running

Help or direction would be great!

I guess when you renamed your computers, you have given a different name to each computer and restarted the entire network after the name change.  If this isn't the case, it is the cause of your problem.

What LAN IP address static (fixed) do you use for your server?   What is your range of DHCP server?    If you use "DHCP Réservation" to give your server a static LAN IP address, then the address must be within the range of the DHCP server.  However, if you have assigned manually your server an address LAN IP fixed, by entering information in the server, then this fixed LAN IP address must be outside the range of the DHCP server, and it may not end with 0, 1 and 255.

At least part of your problem (drive mapping) sounds like a problem with computer software firewall.  Go to the software firewall for computer on each computer and set it to "trust", other computers on your network.

Using an unsecured wireless network?  If so, maybe your neighbor put his computer to use one of your computer names, and it connects to your network (accidentally or intentionally).   If you have an unsecured wireless network, secure it.

In addition, check the MAC addresses on all your cards, ethernet and wireless adapters and see if both is the same.   Surprisingly, some manufacturers do not give MAC addresses unique to their network devices and perhaps is to confuse the router.

In addition, you use a wireless Repeater in your network?  Sometimes this problem with duplicated names occurs when a wireless Repeater is used.  Yet once, if you have an unsecured wireless network, maybe your neighbor runs the Repeater of fire!

Do one of the computers that are connected to the router, also have a wireless adapter?  If so, make sure it's off.

If you would like more information, please state the brand and exact model of the card number wireless laptop.

  • several devices on the network with the same name

I want to install Windows 7 OS computers on a domain with Small Business SERVER 2003.  Curiously, I see all the computers on the network, where I should be able to, but one of them WK02011, is not accessible from all Windows 7 systems because there are multiple devices with the same name on the network according to a diagnosticn check.  WK02011 is visible and accessible from other systems on the network that are runjning XP OS.  There is only one device named WK02011 on the network.  I don't have this problem with any other XP system - that is - I can see and access all of the other XP machines on the network with the exception of WK02011.  I can't access WK2011 from the server and the server indicates that it is multiple devices with the same ID.  Rename the XP would be complicated because of having to re - set up the service to the customer and then turn around and install 7 OS in the workstation in the coming days.

  • Set the name of the network on a Windows 2012 without Active Directory Server

I have a Server Windows 2012 I use for DHCP, DNS and NAT on a network without a domain controller, and I don't want to create a domain.

When my Windows 7 clients connect, they identify the network with the name of 'network '. Is there a setting on the server, Windows 2012, that will allow me to change the name that clients identify the network with? I want something that is on the side Server and not to go and rename it on each client manually.

I noticed low-end devices how as access points, modems etc use their own custom network that clients identify their network with, so I guess it cannot be something too difficult...

    Thank you in advance.

  • Remove or replace the name of the network (Vista, wired to the router)

I have 4 computers on my network home (a new laptop and Windows 7 desktop computer and an older laptop and desktop Vista, which are replaced - laptops are wireless).  I had a LOT of problem with printer sharing, especially after a reboot printer goes offline, and I can't find any way to get them back another remove printers and reinstalling (disappointment, disappointment, disappointment) online.  And then I started having problems with one of the Vista (cables to the router) computers access the computer Windows 7 new, also wired to the router.

Then I will begin first with the last problem.  Trying to get the old wired Office Access/recognize the new desktop windows 7 Wired, I ended up resetting my fairly new Linksys router e2500 to its factory setting - and in the process gained a new network name.  I finally understood how to get the laptops wireless to recognize the new network (should be easy, but it wasn't), but the old wired Vista insists on the use of the former name of network, one that appears in the network and sharing Center implementation.  The other funny thing is that even though she seems to be using the former name of network, I put on Jack autour with her so I don't have Internet access on my old Vista computer.

I guess that because it is trendy, it seems not to worry about the network name, but it's bothering me because it's not fair.  However, I can't find any way to delete the old name of network.  I spent the day on that and am still confused.  Baffled because it is working and baffled because I can change the name.  I also get a lot of mistakes "Windows cannot access \\myWindows7computername" when I double click on the name displayed in the network folder of Windows Explorer (probably more serious problem).  In any case, I want to address what should be first the problem of easire.

I discovered enabled network, public folder sharing, which transforms file on the computer discovery and Vista network, sharing the printer and sharing active files (but only on the printer and all the other things of file not checked), and sharing files public computer to Windows 7 (the one with the printers connected to it) - and passwords disabled on both (all computers).

So my first question is how to make the network name on the Vista desktop wired old deleted/changed/replaced for the new name of the current network.  Why it does not insist in using the former name of network that no longer exists.

    Ron in round rock

Sorry about that, but I got my answer from another forum, a Linksys Forum - and I will talk about a few things in case other people have this problem/question.

To remove the network name that appears on the Network Center and sharing, click on the link to customize to the right of the network type - and on the next screen, click on merge or delete network locations, you will / should be able to remove (don't know what fusion done or means) the network with the wrong name, EXCEPT that you can't remove it If it is being used (which is / was the problem I had).  When I unplugged the cable between the computer and the router, I was able to remove the network location (the one with the old name of network), I tried to get rid of.

Now for the confession.  All this has nothing to do with the name of the network - and most of the things in my original post is just smoke also.  I was going down the wrong path.  It turns out that with computers connected to a router, there is only one network involved and you can call it anything you like and it will work.  There is no selection of a network involved as in the case of a wireless network.

Network with wired computers name is determined lby network name "you enter" on the screen to customize network settings, the screen you get when you click Customize on the screen of the Network Center and sharing - and you can type in anything you want here.  I'd so go through all this.  I simply had to re - enter the network name on the screen to customize network settings, that is simply a name that you can use for your own reference.

  • Computer can not display the name of the network to which it is connected.

Hello, I'm able to get a stable access to the internet with my computer, but instead of display the name of the network, I am connected to (for reference, it is DGVB1), it says "Network 2" of what I have been able to deduce the Korean. This is why I can't connect to this computer in my homegroup?

    Clueless,

    Brian

It was surprising, but I got the computer change the name of "Network 2" to "DGVB1," my SSID, which, for some reason, let it be detected and therefore be welcomed into the group. Weird, but at least it worked. The next issue, I'll try and work on East printers, which I believe that Norton 360 can be bothered to. in any case, thanks for the help :DD

  • All of a sudden, impossible to get on the network with PDA

I have an office of cable to a WRT610Nv2 with 2 desktops on the network wireless.  I used to be able to jump on and off with my PDA and Netbook... now I can't.  PDA reports a 'Yin-Yang' symbol and the symbol of encryption at the network location... I think I somehow locked me out... help please

    Chuck

Forgot to mention, basic wired computer and two desktops wireless are still working fine.

Thanks for your reply, but turn the appliance market has not solved the problem... to dig around, I finally found that MAC addresses on my laptop had inadvertently been filtered by software... it sure was not easy to use.  I don't know how it happened all of a sudden, but when I "allowed" those blocked from MAC, everything was fine and I was able to get on the network with my PDA.

  • Change the name of the network printer wireless

We have several Officejet Pro 8600 in our building.  We are printing wireless on their part and need to change the name of the printers so that we know who is who.  How can I change the name of the network to a printer?

You can RIGHT CLICK on the printer in PRINTERS AND DEVICES. There will be a tab RENAME you can choose to change the name.

You will have to do it on EVERY COMPUTER in the building. The printer itself has a HOST name and is the name of the NETWORK.

It's about the only way that you can change the name of the printers.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to access multiple VMs on the network with nic 1 host?

    Greetings,

I have a server vmware running windows XP with 3 virtual machines in suse. I would like to access the 3 virtual machines from the network at the same time. The vm 3 has their own static ip address. I use the bridge network mode. There is only 1 NETWORK card on the XP computer. With this configuration, I can access only 1 vm the network at a time. When I added an another NIC and jumpered it on a second computer, virtual, then I can access 2 at the same time.  Any ideas on how I can access all the vm 3 at the same time on the network with just 1 NETWORK card?

Even if you only have a physical NETWORK adapter, you should be able to access all the guests at the same time when they use bridged networking and have a correct IP configuration. Can you put your host IP configuration and your guests so we can check it out. Make sure the guests are really "bridged" and disable all firewall during the test.

  • HP office jet pro 251dw: find the name of the network printer

    Hello

I want to create a shortcut of the queue for the ability to quickly cancel a print job

To do this, I need the name of printer network such as:

    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe printui.dll/o/n HP6CC21747B66E

The above is incorrect. How to find the correct network name

    Thank you

    Frank C

I found the Brink tutorial on creating a shortcut of printer queue:
Shortcut of the print queue - create in Windows 7 and Windows 8

In my case, the name of the printer is "Printer HP Officejet Pro 251dw PCL 6 (network)"
It must be in quotes because of the spaces.

I did create it a shortcut in the location target using the following:
%WinDir%\System32\rundll32.exe printui.dll/o/n "Printer HP Officejet Pro 251dw PCL 6 (network)"

I ran a test with no paper in the printer, so it couldn't print.
I have performed the shortcut, the print job in the queue. I canceled it
    And it worked!
