DV7-6178us 2 TB hard

Hello, I want to improve my dv7-6178us with a 2 TB drives.

The service manual says that maximum size is 1 TB but sometimes this is not exact and portable can handle larger disks. Is this someone puts 2 TB in this laptop?

Thanks in advance

I don't think they have yet issued portable 2 TB disks which are 9.5 mm thick. If such an animal is available for purchase (2.5 inches width 9.5 mm thick SATA laptop hard drive) it will work on your laptop in the Bay secondary as long you have the right caddy/cable for this Bay.

Which SATA (I, II or III) is compatible with the dv7-6178us? Specification the SATA is backward compatible. This means that disks SSD SATA type will work in your notebook. The SSD will be made only to the level of specification SATA your SATA controller is capable of. If the controiller is SATA150 so your SSD SATA600 installed work bandwidth SATA150.

What is the largest compatible SSD, or should I expect for the best performance? , You can install one with the largest capacity you can afford.  I would recommend not to install a larger than 512 GB. My own brand preferences are Intel, OCZ Technology, Samsung and SSD Crucial.  Purchase of the SSD in upgrade kit is the simplest solution. Upgrade kits come with a SATA to USB cable and cloning software making it a fairly simple process to upgrade the laptop. See the post-it that I wrote at the top of the section of portable equipment for some details on this.

What is the greatest player I can additionally ADD the SSD for storage? I recommend you not to install any disk hard legacy with a capacity greater than 1 terabyte. There is no guarantee that a superior who will work as expected.

The following information is the maintenance guide & computer Support laptop dv7 to refers to the physical size of existing hard drives.

    6.35 cm (2.5 in) drives supports hard drives to 12.7 mm (. 50 inches), 9.5 mm (. 37-in) and thicknesses of 7.0 mm (. 28 - in)

  • HP pavilion dv7 4077cl need new hard drive

I need a new hard drive for my laptop HP pavilion dv7 4077cl entertainment.  The old man is a Toshiba MK6465gsx.  What would be compatible?  Maybe more now I have 640 GB of storage like most.  Can someone help me?

    Hello

Yes, the HARD drive become more fat and more (capacity), becomes also more small - actually thinner - (dimension) AND cheaper too. You can use more (once again - ability) HDD from reliable suppliers/manufacturers. 750 GB or 1 TB of a WD HARD drive would be a good start - please stay with the one who has more cache and fast (7200 rpm or more).

My suggestion: replace it with a SSD and put a larger HARD drive on the second span.

    Kind regards.

    Hello

    I have a 2120ev dv7 with 500 GB Serial ATA-150 - 5400 RPM laptop and I want to update to SSDS.

    Is this possible?

If so, what SSD are compatible?  Could I use SSD SATA2 or SATA3?

    Thank you

Yes, you can install a 2.5-inch SATA SSD instead of HARD drive. A simple procedure to install and many options of migration/copying of software. Your system is SATA 2, but the latest SATA 3 SSD will be "downclock" to work properly on your system and the speed increase is always amazing. Very little real difference in normal use between 2 SATA and SATA 3.

You would find a SATA 2 SSD anyway and improvements are being made constantly so that you don't want an older SATA 2 SSD, unless somebody gave it to you. They also tend to be smaller that the cost of the SSDS off the charts not long ago. They are always on the expensive side but do it where everyone can and should have one. Get 250 and preferably at least one concert a concert 500 or 512, which now is about $150 on a good day.

In any State of cause, assuming that you have installed a hard drive was bought, it would be empty and needs be initialized (mounted) and formatted. To find computer or this PC in the right click menu... Choose manage, disk management and you will see a Visual representation of the hard drives. It can automatically prompts you to initialize the disk. Once do you that and format it in ntfs and assign a drive letter and the name of the volume, it will appear in the computer as a lettered drive.

  • Win7 won't start no-Pavilion dv7-6059eo-a the hard drive failed? Contact HP?

    Hello

I have already experienced some minor problems with my HP laptop, as crashes and freezes and error startup. Now, yesterday I came home vacation and discovered that my PC did "feel well" when I used it. Sound had been delayed and delayed, processes and programs froze frequently, including the Task Manager. I decided to just restart and went for a shower, half an hour later when I came back to my PC it was trying to close the session, without success. I used the power button to shut down physically, and when I tried to start it up, I was allowed to choose whether to start the PC normally or in "safe mode", as expected. I started normally and it has frozen on the 'Starting Windows' screen, the animation wouldn't even start.

I waited several minutes for Windows to start and, eventually, windows cursor appeared on the screen, but it was obviously the wrong resolution (much bigger (and wider than what is proportional) and fuzzier than normal), then I got a blue background (However, this was not blue, it was like a wallpaper) and the come command prompt thingy indicating exactly what :

I leave the PC for half an hour, and when nothing happened, except at the prompt closing itself, I rebooted, it the same way as last time. This time when start I had to choose between 'start Windows normally' and 'Start Startup Repair (recommended) '. I chose the option recommended and expected (because I used to get these before the crash too). But ultimately the same black screen and the enormous-too-big-cursor appeared, then he went blue and then the command line came, stating the same message as I wrote above.

It is, essentially, as far as I got with the PC after the evening of yesterday and today. I also noticed wave, repetative sounds coming from inside the PC, looks like a frog, very very small is trapped inside. I tried the F8 menu at startup and chose to start in "safe mode" but there is no difference.

  • Pavilion dv7 4053 cl: Pavilion dv7 4053cl adding second hard drive

I replaced with success the stock HDD in my laptop with an SSD.

I want to continue to use the old HDD in the laptop well, and it seems that I have a second drive Bay HARD in which HARD drive can adapt. I have not, however, see a SATA connector on the motherboard for a second HDD connection.

There is a SATA connector to the disk HARD primary (symbols of disc 1, marked on the plastic) and there are two connectors near the RAM, which seem not to be SATA, and my optical disc drive is connected.

Am I missing something, or is there is no place on the motherboard to connect a second HARD (well, or SSD) via SATA drive?
