Change boot sequence

I have a new desktop computer Dell OptiPlex 7020. It has been upgraded to Windows 10 a few weeks ago. I'm trying to boot from the DVD drive, but can't.  I start by pressing F12 at startup.  I get a message in top right of the screen that shows the PREPARATION for a START TIME, but everything seems different. I see NO option to boot to a CD or DVD device. Need help please, Mike

See if there is anything useful here.

My old Tosh Pro 200 showed the BIOS options at startup, and you could press F12 to change the boot sequence. But myy new Sat L830-145 shows no option in the BIOS at startup and just starts in Windows 8.
I found among the bloatware on the new machine, an installed Toshiba utility that is supposed to activate the start sequence be changed.

So I used to put the USB at the top, followed by the optical drive, followed by the HARD drive.
But it does not appear to have made all the difference. I have a USB key with Ubuntu installed fully on it that I wanted to start, but it seems not recognized (unlike when I use it on my old machine - so nothing wrong with the stick, or how it is configured) and continues just to boot to the HARD drive and Windows 8.
    Then...
Anyone know how I can change the boot on this Satellite L830-145 sequence?

  • How to access the "Bios" in Vista to change "boot sequence.

Every time I have to install a new program on Vista, the system won't re - start without the Vista installation disc. I need to know how to enter the "bios" to change the boot sequence. Thank you

    Hello

/ Configuration settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 start you so look at the screen - boot order should be set to
Hard drive 1 for normal operation.

Sound like you may need to run the repair of booting from the Vista disc.

This tells you how to access the System Recovery Options and/or with a Vista disk

Try Options recovery or a disk of Vista startup repair.

How to do a startup repair

Also from the command PROMPT on the Console (if possible) recovery or a Vista disk

    SFC/scannow
    Press enter

    and after that runs away

    Chkdsk /f /r
    Press enter

    (Spaces between C and / k and / and f and /)

Retry (if necessary) after Chkdsk startup repair.

    I hope this helps.

  • Compaq presario cq61: change the boot sequence

I have 10 Windows upgrade on my compaq Presario cq61 free. I want to do a clean install of Windows 10. I downloaded the tool of Microsoft Media, made a key USB and DVD containing the clean install. I am told that the use of the flash player, I have to change the boot sequence in the bios. I tried everything from ESC, all numbers F and LED to try to enter the bios and all have failed. Told me that all I had to do with the DVD was just put it in and start the computer and the laptop would boot from the DVD and I could make my own installation from there. Which also failed. The only thing I have not tried is downgrade to Windows 7, affecting Windows 7 back to factory settings, then reinstall the free update of Windows 10. I would not have to go through all if I mostly because I bought the laptop from a friend and it was installed at the factory of Windows 7 and I don't got no disc software to the computer so I don't want to screw up and drop windows 7 without the appropriate software reinstall to match the product key.

Any help to enter in the bios or advice that could help me reach my goal would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    Here are some other suggestions.

    1. start the machine in Windows 10.

Open settings and select System.  Select food and sleep, and then click additional power settings - in the next window, click on "Choose what the power button" in the left pane.

In the next window, click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" (close), then Remove the check mark from the box against 'Turn on a quick start (recommended) '.  Click on the button Save the settings, and then close any open windows and stop the laptop by right clicking on the icon from the Start Menu, then select prompt (Admin) and click 'Yes' to the uac prompt.

Type (or copy and paste) the following command (including spaces) and click Enter.

    Shutdown /s /t 0

Tap on the ESC key as soon as you turn it on and see if it will now access the Start Menu.

2 try to connect a keyboard external usb and see if this will allow you to access the Start Menu.

  • Change the boot sequence

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has a guide step by step (with pictures) on how to change the boot sequence (I'm not interested by a particular brand of PC or a particular Windows).

    Thanks in advance :)

    Adam

There are a few different ways to access a page of options boot menu at startup

Bios legacy would use the delete key

    UEFI BIOS would use F8

Each you could enter the bios and select the or change the first device to boot cd / dvd drive is usually first "inline"

Some uefi bios and or install uefi, you may enter win - 10 or 8 - 8.1 and turn off the quick start first in = power options change what the button of power before you could even get into the bios because of the characteristics of secure of the two of them start.

  • Cannot change the boot sequence in the bios

    Hello world!

I use vmware fusion 3.1.1 (282344) (in fact has happened since I started from 3.0). A home edition of Windows XP is installed in the bootcamp partition and is used as the guest operating system. When I start Windows XP, it always first try to boot from the network, which takes about 1 min (this can be ignored by hitting the ESC key however). Even if I enter the bios settings, the starting sequences is not editable, where "everything on this menu is not editable in user mode. If all items require changes, consult your supervisor system"is written. However, no password supervisor and of course, I'm not using the 'user '. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

PS: a full Linux guest OS (installed in fusion and is wrapped up as a file) has no problem to change the boot sequence.

    Best regards

    PrestonXu

All items of this menu cannot be changed in user mode. If all items require changes, consult your supervisor system

Weird, I never heard of this message before. You get this when you start merging, not in native mode? I would have asked if someone had made changes to the BIOS settings until you got to the virtual machine, except that you said it's Boot Camp, so I think it's less likely.

You can try to change the boot order in the Virtual Machine > settings > advanced > boot device.

  • Changing the sequence of Boot in Thinkpad 600

    Hello everyone.

I have a TP 600 and my hard drive crashed while I had to get a new one. Now I am trying to install the OS on it, but when I try to change the BIOS boot sequence, (by pressing F1 on startup and then clicking on Start Up option), I am unable to change the boot sequence.

I see that HDD is allocated to the first sequence and I can see other options like CDROM etc, and when I try to select the CDROM option, it does not replace the HDD with CDROM as the first sequence.

How can I go about it? I did the research for almost 2 days with no luck!

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Alex

Sorry, yes I meant the flag.

You use the TrackPoint and it of buttons or use the Tab key to select the item, and the space bar to select.

use tab until what it says "Reset" and then press the space bar, this will clear the fields. You can then use the tab to select the disks and use the space key to enter in the list.

    I hope this helps.

  • Satellite A40 - boot sequence problems

    Hello!

I just bought a used Toshiba Satellite A40. He had a almost crashed Windows XP is installed. I'm trying to put a new copy of Windows XP on it, but I can't boot from the CD. By pressing the done nothing F12 key and when I access BIOS (v. 1.50), I can't change the boot sequence. The only things that I can access are the date and time. Help, please!

    Thanks in advance!
    See you soon!

    Hi moldovanvali,
long story short - long said...
    -charge the battery fully
-Start computer laptop game + time and date +.
-Restart and load setup defaults + +.
-change the boot for odd sequence +, + cdrom + or similar
your system should now boot from the cd without pressing on + F12 +.

If it does not start on cd/dvd maybe the optical disk drive is not able to start...
There are many reasons for this...

BTW: without entering a date and a time when the system starts only pressing on * F1 * (most cases)

  • For Satellite Pro M70 boot sequence

    Issues related to the:

    1. What is the default setting for the boot to the Satellite Pro M70 sequence?

    2. What is the procedure for changing the boot during the start-up phase sequence?

    3. What is the most 'sensitive' boot sequence, with & without an attached external floppy drive?

    Thank you
    AlanCB

Well, I'm not 100% sure but I think the default start setting is:
    DISK HARD-CD/DVD-FDD-LAN
However, you can set and change parameters in the Toshiba HWSetup that is located in Control Panel.

Just FYI: by pressing a key during POST, you can choose the boot device.
    D - default system
    U USB FDD
    1 - disc HARD bed
2 - slim select bay (if available) HDD
    C - CD rom
    N - network LAN
P - PC HDD (PCMCIA) card

But these options are not always available.

  • Portege R200 cannot set on the BIOS boot sequence

    Hi all.

Our R200 entered mode of hibernation after that the battery power is low, then by some unfortunate twist of fate, the battery got deleted accidentally. Now it does not start correctly because every time it displays a BSOD stating Unmountable_Boot_Volume.

I could solve this problem easily by disabling the hiberfil.sys file, which is the reason for the BSOD, if only I could change the boot order. Unfortunately, enter the BIOS, I am only able to access the first page where the only editable elements are time, date, and passwords. Pressing Pageup and Pagedn does nothing. The BIOS is updated to the last appearing on this site.

Pressing F12 or F2 when the toshiba logo and icons appear does nothing no more. It's a HARD disk 1.8 "and there are no adapters available in our region. I can boot from a CD if and only if I take the HD. But then, it is useless since I can't fix it like that. It is not recognized if I it reconnect after booting. When I reboot, it does the BSOD thing again. It is becoming a frustrating cycle.

I scoured these forums for other ways to boot from the CD and apply the suggestions, like hitting 'c', nothing helps.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Vista boot sequence

First of all, this is not a problem with dualboot OS since the answers I got do not help because either they do not know and feel that they need to type something
or they can't read. I'll try to explain as simply as possible.

When Vista starts it asks me what legacy to boot from (not the operating system) but the motto:

    HD
SATA, which it starts the real
    DVD player
    Printer
    or leakage by default startup

If I take the SATA, everything is fine and runs as well as it always has. I'm tired of having to choose each time.

    I tried;

Reset in the BIOS boot sequence - they are all in parentheses which I know isn't fair but can find no option to change

The Vista repair option install disc-do not ask again each time

Guest/Fixmbr/fixboot or prompt Boot boot responds

About 6 different 'Windows fix forums' nobody did allow that the answers are always the same: Vista repair option (each of them swear blood he will fix it)
even after telling them that I've tried) explain how to dualboot OS has nothing to do with the question.

It gets frustrating because this forum is the last of them, I'll try. The machine works great as it always has, but waiting to choose the currency

    is getting old.

    Hello spooky24,

Your explanation is clearly a problem of hardware (BIOS) setting. This is not a problem of windows and the experts and volunteers here, will continue to try to help you! Since this is a unit built car, I suggest that you contact the motherboard manufacturer for help with their Board because they did, not Microsoft. Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

  • XPS 8900 and Samsung 950 PRO Boot sequence problem

I have a 8900 XPS with Windows 10. I have a Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSD installed using a x 4 PCIe3.0 NIC - to-M.2 installed in PCIe SLOT on the XPS 8900 motherboard 3. I used Samsung cloning software to clone the OEM 1 TB HDD (immediately after you set up Windows 10 on it) for Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSDS. Then I used the Samsung Software Wizard to install all the latest drivers.

The only way I am able to boot from the SSD PRO 950 is to detach the HARD drive (which invites a Code of error Dell # 2000-0141 or something like that... no disc HARD detected). Seeing the Dell error at startup screen, I click on 'Continue' and Windows 10 boots perfectly fine (and very, very quickly). I just used my PC this way for a few weeks now. However, I really want to take advantage of the disk of 1 TB of extra storage space.

When I plug the HARD drive and reboot, Windows 10 is loaded from disk (not the SSD) and I don't get the Dell 2000-0141 error screen. I pressed F2 or F12 at the Dell splash screen to go into BIOS to change the boot sequence, but I don't see that the SSD listed as a 'disc' or the source file for the start of Windows 10 controls... Shut down the PC, unplug the HARD drive and starting up, I get the Dell screen #2000-0141 again error (without HDD detected), click on 'Continue' and Windows 10, even once, start up normally on the SSD.

Is it possible that I can use the drive HARD without the PC automatically boot from the HARD drive?

    Thank you!

    -Tyler

First you need to download the latest driver of Samsung 950 NVMe (this is not included and is required) to you

OEM HARD drive, then clone the drive.

its about half way down the page.

Then see if you can find it in the BIOS, I pulled out my HARD drive and its in the pile of gift, all SSD for my system. I'm sure that you can remove the secure boot and startup of the PCIe SSD.

    Please report your findings

  • Boot sequence

I installed a new SSD today and have Windows installed on it (or so I think.)  But I don't know how or what to change in the BIOS to make the new shoe of road on its own.  It will start with my old active drive, but when I turn it off I can't start.

Always include the exact model of PC and the version of Windows in your messages.

Where you connect the cable of data SSD on the motherboard? Did you connect to where the HARD drive was originally connected (SATA0) or some other SATA port?  The boot drive must be connected to the SATA0

Have you turned on the SATA port where the SSD is connected, if not connected to the port where the HARD drive is connected?

Have you changed the boot sequence in the BIOS to first put the SSD?
