Dynamic table of contents page numbers

I'm in InDesign CS5, and I wonder if there is a simple way to just insert the numbers of dynamic pages that refer to somewhere in my paper. I don't think I want to go into the creation of automated TOC, only the page numbers.

Also - how can I change my email address on the forums of these notifications are in the right place? I can't find a way to change this.

You can use cross-references instead.

  • Cannot change the table of Contents Page icons in RH10

I adapted successfully table of Contents Page icons in the previous versions, but in RH10, option seems to be missing. After past the method as well as help boards & Forums, I have pod TOC page right-click, choose Properties, Advanced tab, but once there all I see are the image and comment options. There is no option to change the icon of the automobile to a different style in a drop-down list (because I expected to see under Advanced). My OS is Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. Either by the way, I used this feature in the past to indicate a subject that has new features or topics of a different nature.

    Hello

I have RH10 in front of me at the moment, so I paint entirely from memory on this.

When you look at your single Source Layouts pod, which is the main provision on?

If it is not configured for Microsoft HTML Help, find this layout and right click. Then propose that it be the main provision. Once you do this, I'd be willing to bet a dollar against a doughnut that you will now see the option to change the icons.

  • Table of contents - page automatic update of numbers possible?

As a typographer, I generate the table of contents, all the time. That is, if there are significant changes to the book in the final stages of verification that paging can be shaken around. When this happens I find myself to update the table of contents by hand.

There must be a way to automate that.

I guess some kind of variable text that I place on the content page that is related to an anchor any on the page in question that just returns a number of page this anchor is located. If this page is moved the page automatically updated content. (This would have to happen in the whole of files: the issue head-on with the content on the subject is usually a different .ind file as the content of the body.)

Is there something like this in InDesign? If this isn't the case, in InDesign basis, nobody knows about a script or plugin that would do this?

    Thank you!

    -Calvin

The standard TOC requires intervention to update (layout > TOC update...). If you manually generate using cross references, it will update automatically as you work. The downside is it's more work to implement, and x - Ref is known to be unstable through several files in a book.

  • Formatting of Table of contents pages on MacBook Pro 2013

I am trying to create a table of contents. I followed instructions on YouTube but when I insert my OCD, page numbers are not in a separate column.  I have a column with the content and page numbers wrapped under. How can I solve this problem?

What specific version of Pages using you (Pages: pages) on which specific version of Mac OS X (Apple Logo: about this Mac).

If you use a variant of Pages v5, then a video from Youtube to the previous Pages ' 09 is not the same.

  • Table of Contents Page size woes...

Using InDesign (CS4) generator of OCD, it generates the table of contents with the page numbers appropriate for the sections of the book, but the size of the page seems to be wrong. I use the format letter 1/2 for the page, but the table of contents generated seems to have been formatted to a page of the complete letter... it looks like this...

If the pipe symbols below represent page limits, points that precede the page numbers "wrap" to the next line... I know it is formatted on the page for a full letter size, because when I print, everything is lined up perfectly on a sheet of paper 8-1/2 "x 11":

Chapter 1....................................

.................... 25

Chapter 2....................................

.................... 76

There, anyone have an idea why it is doing this?... I created the page table of contents of the document with a 1/2-letter size, but the TOC generator doesn't seem to be aware of this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Terry

It seems that you must adjust tab settings in the paragraph style that is applied to the entries in the table of contents. Make sure that what one tab aligned to the right is fixed at the end of the text block. If a tab extends beyond the edge of the text frame, the text to "wrap" on a new line. It is sometimes useful to delete all tabs and then start over if multiple and tabs have been set.

  • Table of contents, Page number on the left if the tab is too short

Sorry about the title of coplex, couldn't happen to a better.

Is there a solution to the table of contents of style then the page number never ends on the left side? Everything works fine if the topics listed in the TOC spans on one or more lines.

But if the listed topic ends exactly at the end of a line (in the table of contents), the page number appears on the left side of the next line. (I have a ^ t between the entrance and the number in the table of contents style.) If a single word in flows in the line below, the table of contents correctly adds the... (dotted) and place the pagenumber to the right.

Can I modify the paragraph Style from table of contents or TOC Style so that the number is right-aligned, even if there is no prior entry (which is on the line above).

    Example of the problem:

    Correct / Normal... 1
This title is exact a row of table of contents
    2

I would also put the option "Balance unbalanced lines.

  • Problem with the table of contents pages and books

I use 8 HR and generate Webhelp.

I created a project and had to change a few pages of table of contents and create TOC books instead. I deleted the pages and added books, with the same name. HR, it looks fine, but when I generate the table of contents for the page instead of the book. I tried to clear my cache in Internet Explorer, and the deletion of the page again. Still no help. I rebooted and even rebooted and still have the same thing. Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

    Thank you.

Indeed if a book has nothing in it, it will not appear in the table of contents. When you think about it, it is very logical. Why would you want a book to appear if nothing was inside?

The background color of the text is controlled by the selection of "Title" in the color.

title text font, size and color are controlled by accessing the "Info" button and selecting "Title" in the theme area and by changing your selections there.

Hope this helps - sorry for the delay - took in a drama date limit!

  • Building blocks in the reference table of contents page

In the reference page for 8 FM to my OCD, I have this:

    < $chapnum >. < $paranum >: < $paratext > < $pagenum >

    The < $chapnum > section: < $paratext > < $pagenum >

    The < $chapnum > section: < $paratext > < $pagenum >

After an update of the exit book TOC looks like this:

Section 2: Concepts RTXLNET & characteristics

    Section 2: Organizing data

    2: day of the specifications

Absent from the output is the second issue of the level of heading 3, for example the "." 1"in" 2.1: Date specifications. What is the correct Foundation? < $paranum > is apparently not correct.

    Thank you

<$paranumonly>gives you just the info of the meter.

  • Get page numbers to properly on distributions of left-right

I have a document with 5 pages of "forematter": a the title Page, that I have no page number as a section, and then a section 2 section containing the copyright page, dedication page and two-page table of contents, page numbers in Roman numerals.

Then the meat of the book as a 3rd section, the page numbers in Arabic numerals in standard.

    Here are my pages window:

I need to get somehow '1' to the left page of a spread with '2' and the rest pages reflow accordingly, given that the current Setup gives me the page numbers in the wrong place, as you can see below.

    Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 10.34.47 AM.png

An odd page number must be on the right side of a spread in LTR languages, as is standard. To empty pages, you will need to insert a blank page.

I do not understand your screenshots, why the margin guide in the spine not showing space for the spinal column and that he should?

  • Chapter numbers will appear in the table of contents with page numbers...

First of all, thank you all so much for the display of the answers.  This forum is wonderful.

I have a doc that needs to have chapter numbers appear with the page numbers in the table of contents.

    I insert the < $chapnum > and < $currentpagenum > in the footer and I get 1-1 appears.

To include 1-1 in the table of contents, do I have to edit the referring Page, or is there another way.

Thank you very much for your help!

Change the reference to the table of contents page to use the building block as well as the first page, which is <$chapnum>chapnum.<$pagenum>

  • Right align page numbers which is found to the left of the table of contents entries

I posted a similar question a while ago I think that substances or Peter replied, but darn if I can find the thread. At that time, they provided a script that does a GREP search, find a sentence that starts with a number and its replacement by a tab. I still have the script, but for some reason, it does not properly with my new table of contents page layout. It must insert a tab on the left page number (page numbers are to the left table of contents entries) and force the numbers right aligned so that a single-digit right page number aligns with the right edge of a two-digit page number.

    Find: ^ (\d+)
    Change to the: \t$1

What is happening in the new table of contents, this is the script is a figure and inserts a tab to the left of the page number. Page numbers are moving to the right, but they do not align right. They are further to the right, but they themselves numbers correspond to the left.

I'm puzzled as to why the script does not work on this new layout. Now I use CS4 and it still works on the former route. Nothing terribly different about the new layout except that the column is much closer, and there are several columns threaded in the TOC instead of a long column and the chapter titles do not have page numbers (but all other entries have page numbers.)

We should probably set the tabulator in your paragraph style: a tab aligned right for the numbers, followed by a tab stop that is aligned to the left to the text that follows this number. (I guess that there is a tab after the number.)

  • Table of contents - several line Page # alignment problem

    Hi all

I have a Table of contents, in which I have a few entries that develops in two lines.

When the contained entries Table expand to two lines, leader are not added and page numbers shows next to the entrance.

See Image below: entrance with RED ARROW - 1.9.4 indicates Page 44 without a leader:

    No explanation will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

No need to change the titre3 paragraphs. Look at the reference to the table of contents page. There is probably a page containing the TOC tag that defines the format of the entries in the table of contents. There the paragraphs which badges are derived from paragraphs in the main document that generate entries by adding OCD to the original label. Thus, registrations for titre3 paragraphs are marked Heading3TOC. The reference page has a Heading3TOC which looks like point something lke:

    <$paranumonly>  <$paratext>.........................<$pagenum>

When there is a tab between <$paranumonly>character and <$paratext>that moves from the left side of the <$paratext>2.0 cm, and another tab between <$paratext>and <$pagenum>that moves to the right of the <$pagenum>-12.0 cm.

I mean put a space before the second tab. You can also add an additional tab before the <$pagenum>.
