  As suggested by the title given that the update every time I visit a live image page link darkens gray and the image is centered.

  You do not tell us your version of Windows, but try right-clicking on an area empty desktop, screen resolution , and then click a higher screen resolution. See also:

  Just to add to the response of cor - el, in my case (identical) was specifically the complement DivX HiQ, worm 2.1.0.900. As soon as I turned it off, the tabs started to behave normally again.
